I'm so excited and impressed with Crippen Tree and Landscape... They worked around my crazy schedule, were extremely polite, respectful, and courteous throughout the initial consult all the way through the removal and clean up, and saved me money! Steve and Cassie are a power couple and overly impressed me! I thought for sure a pine tree would have left some remnants in my yard... There weren't any. So thankful for an honest company!!!

First and foremost, I called 3 companies from this list and CTS was the only company that called me back. The crew was respectful of my family, animals and property. They kept us up to date on what was going on with the job. It took several days to complete the job but they keep on top of everything. When they were finished they cleaned up everything and walked the area with me to make sure everything was good.

I've been hiring Stephen Crippen for years, and have always been very pleased. My next-door neighbors on either side have also had CTL do work for them and were equally satisfied.

Perfectly. Steven and his crew showed up early and worked very hard getting the job done. They removed the trees, stumps, and all debris. We are very pleased with the job.

Very friendly and helpful. Went above and beyond to help us haul some extra things. We were only in town 3 days to clean up our rental and they were able to accommodate us in that time frame. Would definitely use them again.

I am a long-distance landlord, and preparing to put my house in Lansing on the market. When we went to insepct the inside of the house, we found that the landscape and bushes were completely overgrown. This was on a Satuday, and the house was going on the market on Monday, with photographers and videographers coming that day.
Within 24 hours (yes, he came on Sunday), Stephen and his crew had removed all of the weeds, trimmed the overgrown bushes, and laid down mulch. It took him a little over 4 hours in the hot sun, but the result was amazing!

These guys are true professionals. So skilled at their jobs, great customer service, well-priced, responsive and nice to boot. The whole package! I have no desire to look further for lawn service.
Mr. Crippen showed up on a Thursday, came back on Friday to have the contract signed, and began cutting trees on Saturday. He took advantage of an elderly lady still grieving over the loss of her husband. What he promised to do, cut the leaning trees, was all she was thinking about. He did not give her a copy of the contract, hand written notebook paper, at that time, on Friday as he had to make a copy of it. He claims to have walked the property with my mother indicating which trees he would be cutting. My mother cannot walk the property, so I am not sure who was with him.
He was at the house on Saturday morning, cutting wood from the yard south of the house. He cut every tree in the yard, leaving the stumps, the tops, and the unusable lumber scattered all over the yard. He claims to have been told that nothing in the yard mattered so he could drop the trees whereever. In this yard, he dropped a tree so that the top of it fell on an antique grain drill, smashing the front of it. Also knocking over two cement pig statues in front of it. I am sure my mother did not give him permission to do that. He is using a bobcat to move the logs he cuts from the trees, which is tearing up the yard. He then started moving around to the woods behind the house. He dropped another tree on a pile of cement blocks, causing the truck of the tree to break, making this whole tree worthless to him. He just pushed it off the driveway and left it. The top of the tree would have fallen on the lattace that was at the top of a flower bed, but they moved it. Now if nothing in the yard mattered why did he move this lattice before dropping the tree on it. Several other trees could not be cut down because they would have fallen on vehicles, but that should not have mattered according to him. He then moves into the woods, detroying the yard with his bobcat tracks, and leaving tops of trees and stumps everywhere. If the tops were in his way, he just pushed them further into the yard. By the time he was done on Saturday, he had over fifty logs laying in the side yard. Mom again asked for a copy of the contract as she thought she should have a copy of it. He hasn't made a copy of it yet but he will get it to her tomorrow.
He is back again on Sunday, cutting trees from the woods now. The yard is getting worse as now they have a track from the woods to the side yard where they are putting all of the logs. The yards and woods look terrible from all the "tops and unusable lumber" that is being left everywhere. By the time he was done on Sunday, there were 95 logs laying in the side yard, his landing area. Mom again asked for a copy of the contract, he still has not made a copy of it. He says he will just re-write it on another piece of paper and they can sign it again. At some point during the day, when we were moving one of the vehicles so he would have more room for his "landing" area, the driver of the bobcat stated "that he could not even keep up with removing the logs from the woods as fast as they were cutting them".
On Monday morning I called Mr. Crippen and told him there will be no more cutting of trees and I didn't think the contract was good. There is currently a dispute about this. I would not recommend him for any work. His description of his company is that he is experienced at laying sod and landscaping. He also stated to us that he was a certified arborist in Michigan. I cannot find him on any certification lists I have searched in Michigan. And an arborist does not treat the woods and trees as he did. His company name is Crippen Tree and Landscape, he sure did a number on my mothers landscaping!
I was talking with a friend and somehow the subject of working or yard work came up and the man mentioned that his son owned a tree business. I called Crippen Tree and Landscape the next day and talked to the owner. He offered to come out to give me an estimate for work that I wanted done. He came out prepared to work and after talking about the various projects he prepared a bid and I approved it. So he and his two employees started right away. They started with taking the large branches off of the locust tree--using a great deal of caution and safety practices with a harness and many ropes and one guy in the tree and two on the ground. They used a chainsaw which was also secured to prevent it from falling. I was very impressed by the work, the caution, the time spent figuring out how to proceed.
The large shrubs were removed fairly quickly. They were very fat and overgrown and prickly. The guys cut them down and pulled them out away from the decking. We decided to leave the roots because my septic tank and drainfield would have had to be driven on to get a truck or vehicle in to pull out the roots. So they cut them close to the earth.
The spirea and forsythia were also old, very large and fat and overgrown and unmanageable to me. All three guys tackled those bushes and got them cut down and probably 99% of the roots removed. They raked the area very clean.
All of this work took place over the course of three afternoons. This is because all three young men are still high school seniors. The work ethic, the way they work together, the managing skills of the company owner, Stephen Crippen, are just a sight to behold. That they are so young yet have this company is a wonderful thing. The equipment is all modern and up to date. The trailer was built by them. Everything was paid for by doing work--at least that is my impression. The young men are all friendly, polite, respectful. I did not see them standing around wasting time at any point. They called before they arrived and I even had a follow up call after the work was finished to thank me for the job and see if I was happy with everything they accomplished.
I can't say enough good stuff about the quality of the work, the time it took, and the three young guys who did it all. I would hire them again in a minute and probably will. They now have a Facebook page. I supplied a couple of photos to them and hope they post them eventually. You won't go wrong if you give Crippen Tree and Landscape a chance.
