I asked for a ceramic valve. They installed a really cheap washer type valve that takes many turns to open and close and they made a couple of phony excuses for why no ceramic valve.

Paul came over to inspect existing conditions and provide two options on replacement equipment. I chose to go with the Navien NCB-240E unit to replace both water heater and boiler since both were at or near the end of service life. Installation was scheduled for about 2 weeks later, and Paul's crew show up on time, and proceeded to make quick work of the demo, in a clean and safe manner. The new Navien unit hangs on a wall, and after spending the rest of the day repiping and rewiring, I was pleasantly surprised to see all the free space where my old units used to reside, and the extremely neat and compact installation now condensed in a small corner of my basement. Very please with the efficiency, cleanliness and professionalism of Paul's crew, and would definitely hire them again.

in Summary: i paid $160, got my bathroom flooded and didn't get anything done. I had to run some errands and when i came back home at 10:30 am, plumber was already there waiting. He was supposed to come at 12:00 PM. no prior calls and no update on schedule change. He checked the seepage and asked me if i know what's leaking. I told him what i thought is leaking. He checked it and confirmed it's not. then he pointed out few potential sources. I asked 'can't you find the leak?' He said 'No, i don't know what's leaking, may be this pipe maybe that pipe'. then he checked the water softener, washing machine and concluded nothing is leaking. Maybe it's coming from outside...well i paid you to find the leak...right? That was the whole purpose of the service call. Then he said 'I will have to charge you for the hour'. So i asked him to help me with few minor fixes as it was only 15-20 mins. He reluctantly agreed. I showed him a shut-off valve and asked to replace, he checked and said 'It's the wrong one, i don't have the straight one with me either'. I said put in the angle one if you have, but he said it won't fit. I know that's incorrect but lets move on. i showed him a bidet hand shower which has low pressure, he told me several things that may be causing it and played with it but water main was shut off. Then we decided to close the call and we came back downstairs where he turned back on the water main. We are talking and suddenly i hear running water....bathroom is flooded because bidet was left on and water flowing down the wall to the basement. I can discount this as genuine mistake, but while i am mopping the floor with rags, plumber is standing at the door watching... And I still don't know where the original leak is....and not knowing cost me $160

I got them through Angie's List and they were fine. I don't remember what they charged, but I remember thinking that it was ... it seemed to me a fair price for the amount of time that they spent. I didn't have any complaints about them. I'm gonna say the several times that we've used them was like an hour to two, no more. They also installed faucets and two different sinks and I would say that was about two years ago. I would say they were A overall. In general, I'm satisfied with them. I would say they did exactly what I wanted them to do, plus the amount of time spent on it was very reasonable.

There were two men who worked on our project, one senior member and one assistant. They did a clean and efficient job switching out the old leaky faucet for a new one we bought from Home Depot. They removed the disposal unit as well and replaced the rusty and worn drain pipe and tubing with new ones. The job took the better part of two hours in a pretty confined space under the kitchen sink. We are very satisfied with their work a month later.

Our contact started with me calling Cullen and sending them photos of the two bathroom sinks and a video of the kitchen sink leaking. The woman who answered the phone agreed that this would be helpful to the plumber. I explained that three things needed addressing:

1. the pipe that was the downstairs bathroom sink trap broke right where it enters the wall under the sink. I sent a photo of this area. This sink was backed up and I tried to remove the trap to clean it out. It snapped in two when I put a wrench to it.
2. the drain stopper in the upstairs bathroom sink needed to be replaced. I had a replacement drain stopper for them to install.
3. the kitchen faucet leaked. I furnished a video that showed where the water leaked from.

We scheduled the appointment.

Installation day I was at work and I received a call on my cell phone when the two plumbers were at my house. My wife was home, too. I spoke to one of the plumbers, John, and he didn't know there were three sinks to fix. I explained to him the three issues above and told him of the pictures and video. I also told him I'd like the pitch of the outgoing pipe of the downstairs bathroom sink looked at and maybe increased to help prevent future backups. This pipe is close to horizontal. He said he'd take a look at that. He also said that if the kitchen sink leak doesn't take much work to address then the cost for that would be minor. He said fixing the two bathroom sinks would cost $285. After that I received no calls from the plumbers. I saw the paid receipt when I got home.

The next morning I looked at their work and saw that the upstairs bathroom sink wasn't finished. There was no stopper. Some of the work that needed to be done to install the stopper had been completed. I later learned that one of the plumbers explained to my wife that finishing the job would jeopardize the existing faucet and so he wasn't comfortable doing it. He explained to my wife what I might do to finish the job.

I phoned the other plumber who was there, not John but the one in charge, and told him how upset I was that he charged me the full price but didn't finish, that they didn't phone me to explain what was happening when they saw that the upstairs bathroom sink was more involved than they'd realized, and that when I spoke to John he didn't know he was there for 3 sinks. The lead plumber pointed out that he didn't bill me all of the man-hours used and that he tightened the kitchen sink faucet for free. (The leak in the kitchen was gone the next morning but came back a day later.) I forgot to mention that I never heard back about the pitch of the outgoing pipe for the downstairs bathroom sink.

He said he could come back to finish the upstairs bathroom sink stopper but would have to charge me for his time. He also offered to come back and undo what he'd done and give me my money back. I agreed to have him come back and bill me for his time. I wasn't happy about it but it seemed the most efficient thing for me to do--in time and money--from that point.

Cullen also disappointed me with their decision to use white plastic piping in the downstairs bathroom sink. This is exposed piping and should be something nicer (e.g. chrome or some metal). It looks cheap and not appropriate for a home, but more for a dingy public bathroom. I should have been offered a choice of pipe materials. The ring they used to cover the hole where the pipe enters the wall doesn't fully cover the hole. The job looks like it was a handyman special.

For Cullen's second visit I was home. They came in the house without booties and without offering to remove their shoes. John started talking to me about the pitch of the pipe, saying it was fine, and the other plumber said I was wrong that the pipe was the outgoing one for the downstairs bathroom. At that point I knew there was a disconnect and I brought John to the pipe that I'd asked him to look at--the outgoing pipe for the downstairs bathroom sink. It's easy to see because it's in my basement where the studs are open and it's at eye level. He had indeed been looking at the wrong pipe. he assured me that the near horizontal outgoing pipe still met code and that it wouldn't lead to a premature back up. They completed the upstairs bathroom stopper installation quickly and billed me $85 plus tax.

I don't take negative Angie's list reviews lightly as they can impact a person's livelihood. I debated whether or not I should write this one up. Charging me additional money for what was a reckless quote on Cullen's part was the deciding factor.

A couple of days later Cullen reached out to me because they'd copied my credit card number incorrectly. I gave them the correct one.

Let me start by saying I have never given a negative written review of anyone. Let me also say that I have used Cullen Plumbing several times over the last 5 years at least and I would always recommend them to everyone as a contractor that you could trust to come in on a service call and charge a fair price. I was so relieved to have at least one trade contractor that I could call, let them do the job without even asking for a price quote and not end up feeling taken advantage of at the end of it. Well, I had felt that things were getting a litlle more expensive the last two times I used them, but they do good work and I still felt that they were not gouging me. Now, after today's service call, they are as bad as any other home rip off contractor. I was charged $500.00 for 1 man to do 2 hours of work. This was not an emergency or after hours call, just a normal service call. Needless to say, I will never use them again.
"As I mentioned to you on the phone yesterday, I'm very sorry you were so upset with our pricing. As you can tell by all the good reviews, yours being one of them back in February, other people would disagree. People seem very happy with our services. And as far as that goes, the pricing has not increased over the past few years. The work you had done, was priced as a flat rate. So wether we were there for 2 hours, or 8 hours, it would remain the same. Once again, our apologies....."
