Custom Built and Painted

Matt worked hard to get the dishwasher we wanted installed in our existing kitchen. We had another business come out for a quote and they said the project wasn't possible, but Matt did it! We were absolutely thrilled with his professionalism, persistence, and obvious care in his work and will absolutely use him again for future projects.

Matt and his team did a wonderful job. I am so pleased with the stairs, trim, custom staining, and all of the work they did. They are very skilled at their craft, personable, and reasonably priced. I now have the open concept I have wanted for so many years !!

After a long search I found the right company and team of workers who did one out standing job. They were hardworking respectful and know there trade.

I appreciated that the contractor, Matt, took a good deal of time at the start of the project to listen to what I wanted in the renovation. He also suggested some alternative ideas that I ended up going with and these turned out for the better. Matt and his crew proved flexible for my schedule, and made sure I was satisfied at the end. Clean-up was responsible and thorough. I am likely to hire them again.

We wanted to have it all done at once, but we should have just hired him to do the skylight as a trial before we hired him for the rest of the work. He's a very likable person and was always pleasant to deal with. He did seem to have a lot of experience. The first day he came out there were about 5 people that came out with him. He did all the work in one day, which my husband said as he is somewhat familiar with drywall work, that you have to let parts dry completely before moving on to the next steps. At the end of the day and the next morning as we were walking around looking at the work, the small nail pops that were corrected looked somewhat ok. The seams that we requested he fixed, did not look great. I called him and asked him to please come back and fix them. Like I said, he is a really nice guy and agreed to come back. When he came back he even mentioned that he wasn't sure the day of if the seams were going to look right. I felt like if he had any inkling the day of that he wasn't going to be sure of the end result he should have requested to come back the next day to check on it without us prompting. In terms of professionalism, he didn't apologize or seem to be concerned that I was having to miss appointments again to wait for him to do the work. When he finished and we looked at the work after it had plenty of time to dry, we were once again appalled. The skylight repair still has a giant splotch in patched area. The second time when he went back over it the paint is not quite the same color as he used the first time so you can see all the spots where the patch work was done. After the second time of realizing the work wasn't quite right, we decided we will not be dealing with him again.

It went very well. Matt is a good listener, hard worker, talented carpenter, and gives very good advice when it came to decisions to be made. We are very happy with our new window seat, crown molding, and paint job. A big improvement to our kitchen!

Happened 1/7/2018 and waited for contractor to begin-when I was told might go into April start date,I called Custom Built and Painted and spoke to Matt Steinhilber. I couldn't believe it when he said he could estimate the following day and start the following Monday. Mr. Steinhilber did everything he promised and much more. All the problems of moldings,bumps and holes were addressed and he was brilliant with paint color. Helped a very indecisive person make a decision. I will use Custom built and painted for jobs in the future and we couldn't be happier. Thanks Matt and to his superb talented crew.

It went well, the worker was friendly, courteous, thorough, worked hard. He was fast as well, and knowledgeable.

He did a fantastic job....knocked it out of the park. The pantry is floor to ceiling, 3 ft wide and 2 ft deep with lots of storage for all my boxes, canned goods, spices, baking sheets, etc.

Came as promised, performed work properly and complete cleanup, all done well.

Anthony delivered an awesome job! We absolutely love the finished product!! Our home went from dull and dingy to something you would see in Better Homes and Gardens. Anthony was very prompt and courteous and got my husband and myself through the process quickly with no hassles or headaches. We love all the work and especially the custom cabinetry and shadow striping he did in the master bathroom above the wainscoting and chair rail. Anthony makes it look so easy.

We had 1970s brown cabinets and wanted them painted white (we chose "chalk white"). Matt provided a good price quote and it was evident he had done the work before and knew how to do the job properly. He and his worker Andrew sealed off the kitchen, carefully taped off the fan and appliances, took of the doors and drawers, sealed the wood knots so they wouldn't bleed through, sprayed the cabinets with a lacquer paint, sprayed the inside of the cabinets, painted the edge of our laminate counter tops, and reattached the factory-refinished cabinet doors with hardware we provided. We also had old-style brown trim that looked dated (but was in good condition). Matt painted this white as well to update the look. Because the cabinets looked so good, we had him paint the walls and ceiling as well (something I had planned on doing, but for a little more money than I'd spend doing it myself it saved a lot of time). We were very happy with the result and it feels like we have a brand new kitchen. Before and after pictures are attached.

Matt and his specialist Andrew, did a great job color matching the spacer (requiring custom blends of stain and poly) and with the overall job itself. He did have some transportation issues during the tight timeframe but made a special effort to finish the job on time, so that we had our beautiful kitchen back in order as planned.

I can say without hesitation we would rehire Matt and his team for future projects. His communication was clear, his work timely; he is attentive to detail. Matt is very knowledgeable and professional. He had suggestions with a variety of projects including those we were doing ourselves.

Communication: Communication during the estimate and construction phases was very good. Matt insured that I knew what was happening and what would happen next. Due to my schedule, there was a several week delay between agreeing to do the work and the actual start date. Good communication was essential during that time. Professionalism: Matt has demonstrated a very high degree of professional behavior. He is polite while being professional. Matt demonstrated that he had a firm grasp of the scope of work to be performed. At the same time, he provided suggestions which enhanced to end result. Pricing: I got three estimates for the renovation work to be performed. Matt’s estimate was the best and I felt most in line with the scope of work. Reliability: Matt was very reliable. He arrived at the work site when he said he would and on several days worked well past 5 PM. Attention to Detail: Matt paid very close attention to detail. Cabinet work was beyond expectations. And the finished wall are beautiful. General: I think Matt went above and beyond with all the work he performed.

This contractor was professional and was very detailed with his work. I was so happy to find him, especially when I had such a bad experience with another contractor that I had gotten of Angie's list. He was able to fix the work this guy had done and for a reasonable price. I just with I had hired him from the beginning. I usually do not write comments, but really wanted to let this guy know how much he helped me with making my house beautiful. <br />

This was purchased as a Big Deal, which this contractor treats differently from his mainstream business.  He does this work only on a Saturday, and he doesn't view the work site before arrival.  The customer must propose a project that the contractor accepts over the phone.  That was not a hurdle for me but, after accepting the Saturday set by the contractor, he did not keep that appointment because he forgot about it.  He then initially didn't want to arrive during the next week because this was a Big Deal transaction to be done on a Saturday only.  However, he later called and moved up the new date up to a Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.  Once on the job, he worked diligently and the result is excellent.  He has a personable and communicative manner, so I regret that his attitude toward a Big Deal is one that slights the process.

Matt completed the cutting and rebuilding of our existing cabinets in one day, and he installed the microwave oven and replaced a ceiling pot light with a three pendant light fixture. We are very pleased, and will certainly consider using his company for future jobs.
