We had some difficulty making initial connection to view the proposed job. He was very apologetic when he wasn't able to meet at the time we'd originally scheduled for the 2nd time. We decided to try one more time and it was worth it. Once we met and agreed on the scope of the work - Dave worked evenings to fit us in around larger jobs and his already full schedule. He does beautiful work - clean and pleasing to look at. He undid the sloppy, smeared on globs of concrete that someone had done years ago. And he did more than we'd asked or expected, making sure that the whole basement was in good shape. He has done masonry his whole life. He takes great, well-deserved pride in being a great craftsman. We will definitely work with him again! <br />

"I told him that if I put cement on the metal railings at the bottom that they will not hold you need to have a railing guy come out and replace them but he told me to do it anyway and I listen to my customers they want me to do something I do it for them what he didn't mention is that I was only suppose to do the stairs and he has me go around his whole house filling in holes that were never part of the job but I go above and beyond for my customers and he seemed to forget that part what was suppose to be a 4 hour job took 8 hrs cause of all the extra stuff he had me do and me being a nice guy I did it for him people like to always pick apart the things that I said would not work in the first place but I guess going above and beyond for your clients does not matter they still find anything to complain about"

"This lady got a very good deal on here work because I had her send me pictures so I could take a look at what I had to do and I underestimated the job by about 600$ she didn't tell me she had a 4 story chimney that needed to be repointed and before I left the job she said it looked great and she would call if she had any future work so all in all she got a very good price for the work that had to be done on her house. Witch is sketcky to me is that she told me it looks great and then writes that review if it was so bad then don't you think she would of not paid me or said something. I've been doing masonry for a long time and I can tell mostly what I need to do by people sending me pictures if I can't tell I go and look at the job in person. So you are welcome for doing your chimney for such a low price."

Dave put out a Big Deal that resulted in a ton of new work for his business. I know it was tough for him to keep everyone happy. It was a bit of a struggle to get him to come out for the estimate, start and then finish the work. In the end though, i couldn't be happier. The work is outstanding!! Dave is great at his work. Just give him a chance. <br />

Untimely and unprofessional work. <br /> He did not show 3 separate times despite his making and confirming plans over the phone all 3 times. First one seemed to be some kind of personal emergency so I can't fault him, second was set a week in advance, I got a text in the afternoon after I already took the day off, (he made a backup appointment over the weekend which he did come to) and the 3rd time he had promised to come back to finish up a part later for a little more money, but after a week and some reminding texts never came back. <br /> When he did show, he got a phone call reminding him about another project later he had apparently forgotten about so was rushing to get this one over with. Work itself was kind of sloppy, one concrete pedestal higher than the other so the two brick columns are at noticeably different heights, he also didn't bother to properly measure angles before putting down the first course so columns are misaligned, I had to prove that they were actually not square with each other by actually using a yardstick. He also neglected to bring all the necessary materials to fill in the foundation so we had to break up some of the building bricks I bought to use as rubble. <br /> Overall I don't know how much of it was because it seemed like a small job to him, but he did not seem to respect my time by the way he stood me up, did not take pride in the work, and a small day job turned into a month long and still unfinished endeavor, highly recommend putting your time and money elsewhere. <br />

"I took time out of my busy scheduled to go out there for a lousy $300 show him how to do my work and he gives me a bad review for going up there and showing him how to do my trade he was too cheap to hire me to build both columns and then want me to go up there and pay me hourly to show him how to cap off the columns you tell me what kind of contractor would go out of his way to do that for somebody not many people would do that so you're welcome Jerry thank you for the wonderful review."

He was very professional did the work in the time frame that he told me. and as we were making changes to the job. He even gave me a discount.when we have more masonry work to do I will definitely call Dave O'Brien masonry. He went above and beyond. He did beautiful work it came out better than I expected. So any Angie's list customers looking at this I would use Dave O'Brien masonry you will definitely not be disappointed.

He was there every day walking me threw day by day to see if I wanted to change anything keeping me very involved. Cleaned up after everyday of working very clean and neat. Definitely a perfectionist all so got the job done on time and under budget witch doesn't happen often. I would 100% use Dave O'Brien masonry again.
