First of all he never showed up when he was supposed to. Half the time we couldn't get ahold of him. He rarely returned our calls. He worked for 2-3 hrs at a time about 1-2 days a week for a month. He first quoted us an estimate of $689.48. Then toward the end, he told us he'd need more money for the wood trim. We are senior citizens and we are on a fixed income. This fellow collected his money and didn't finish the job. He told us he would be back to finish up on the painting, caulking and clean up some paint spills. Now we are left with an unfinished bathroom and we called him tons of times. He would never return our calls. We would like some of our money back. We do not want him at our house again, ever.
Response from DCK & Son
"The customer paid me 150.00 deposit. The original balance left to be paid is 539.48 upon completion. What this customer has failed to mention is I installed a hotel style shower rod for 126.36 and chrome shower hooks for the curtain 40.00. Also a new heat/air vent. All these items where not listed on the original invoice estimate. Also this customer has failed to mention is the original trim used in the bathroom was pine and factory stained used in the 60s and 70s style construction, so after searching for 2 days I found some trim very close in color and it was mahogany oversized trim. This was another cost increase from the original estimate. The customer authorized all Modifications to contract. In response to the customer stating my work hours was 2-3 hrs a day that was to the affect that the 1st day I removed all fixtures from walls, plate covers. All walls and ceiling was primered. 2nd day all walls where painted With 1st coat of customers color. 3rd day 2nd coat of paint was applied to the walls and ceiling. 4th day I removed the toilet from the bathroom and re-tiled The bathroom floor. The next time I could schedule a time to come back was not until Monday due to the fact the customer was going out of town fri, sat, sun. Monday morning came and I re-installed toilet and new heat vent. Reinstalled bathroom door, and installed all trim and fixtures such as towel racks toilet paper holder etc. Tuesday which would be the 9th day installed shower rod, and hooks and caulked tub. Another item the customer is having trouble to remember is who ever installed the shower walls left and 1 and a 1/2 gap from tub to wall which is almost impossible to caulk but I went out of my way and used dap caulk for first coat came back the next day and applied a pre-fonned caulk to totally seal the gaps. When I finished he looked at it and said everything looked very good and paid the adjusted amount owed. Also this customer failed to tell you that on the original estimate I had given him a 20% discount. Everyday that I made and appt with the customer I was there. This customer is also mis-leading you also he reported me to the better business bur. And stated that the work was not completed. Well on the form that he filled out for you it states the work was completed. So which is it yes or no???????? My conclusion is this customer is looking for something for nothing."

This would be a little time consuming. All I would like to say is I will use DCK & Son for all my projects in the future and also will recommend them to anyone who is looking for a company thats not out to over price you and use inferior products.
