I am very pleased with the work done by Decks Unlimited - with both the design and workmanship of my original deck. I have recently decided to go with Trex so I will no longer have the maintenance of a wooden deck. I have personally seen several decks Decks Unlimited has built with Trex and I was pleased with what I saw. Consequently, I have hired Decks Unlimited to replace my existing deck with one made with Trex. Plans are approved, I have selected the color, and come spring, we will be able to hit the ground running!

Jeff did a great job with design and had some excellent recommendations that ended up turning out great. I thought the pricing was fair and it ended up being totally worth it. I had an issue with the deck lighting after a year and they took care of it quickly. Nice work.

Our initial contact with Jeff in October 2014 was nice. He came promptly to give us an estimate on the work. He suggested a Trex Deck with a cheaper alternative of using a stained wood railing. I inquired whether it would be possible to finish in December as it was predicted to be very cold. He said it would not be a problem as they would come on Thanks Giving to dig the holes for the footing and after that they could build the deck as long as it was not very cold or snowing. Of course it was cold and it took longer than expected for the concrete to cure. Cutting the story short it wasn't until January or February that they could actually start working on the Deck. They finished it in March and left a very big muddy mess behind. My daughter and my wife had to clean it up on the cold weather and they both wanted to cry from the muddy mess. They did not pick up after themselves and left the white stained railing dirty and fading. When we contacted him he said they were not painters. However, he charged us extra for the painting that was outsourced. In April of 2015 I called the Village for the final inspection. Of course we did not pass. There was a very long list of things that did not pass. The most important one was the height of the railing. The village requires 42in and ours is 36in. When I brought this to Jeff's attention he started yelling on the phone saying that he would not change it to 36 in. He said he never heard of it and that most of the villages only require 36in. However, our next door neighbor has a 42in railing. After he calmed down he proposed to put a 2x6 on top of our railing, call the inspector, and then take the 2x6 down. I wrote on an e-mail that I was not happy with the solution. He called me in May to say he was going to do the job. I told him that I wanted the 42 in railing and not the 2x6 on top of the railing to take it down later. Once again he started yelling and telling me that he would not do it. I told him that if we would not do it I did not want him to complete the job. After he calmed down again he agreed to do it, but he would only do it in the Fall when business was a little calmer. I agreed to that. on Nov. 10 I called his phone, when I identified myself he said he could not hear me and hung up. Giving him the benefit of the doubt I called from my work phone. He did not pick up. I left a voice message inquiring when he was coming over to finish the job. After that I wrote an e-mail. As of today (Nov. 17) I have not heard back from him. I believe I gave him plenty of time to correct his mistakes. Given that I did not get a response I am writing this review that I believe to be a fair assessment of what took place.
Great service and workers. Would highly recommend them for deck projects.
Decks Unlimited was the only provider from Angie's List to actually call back and come and give me an estimate. I am so glad that I had my deck built by this provider.
They did a great job!
The deck is nice because it's new and it's going to last for years, but the workmanship is what bothers me. My husband and I couldn't be at the house when they were working because we were at work. When we came home, nails, tools, screws, cigarette butts, soda cans, pop bottles were littering not only the driveway, but the backyard, too. I just think that's sloppy. Then, once the work was finished, little things like nails sticking out, staples not removed, bar code stickers still left on the wood, a wobbly hand rail, a loose part, unfinished edges that I feel could have been sanded down to provide a more professional look. We asked them to put a piece of wood over an unfinished piece on the deck. They did, but when my husband stepped over it, it broke off, and they had to come and replace it. We had to do most of the clean up after them. I was upset at how many screws and nails were on the drive-way. It's not a horrible job, but it's the little things that you notice after the fact, that are just disappointing.
"I am very upset with this review. My sons and I take great pride in our workmanship. We have wonderful reviews with Angie's list and 5 star references from our customers on Decks.com. I have been building decks for 37 years and I personally built this deck. First of all it was not new construction, we were re flooring an existing deck that I later found out that the home owner built. The framing was terrible and we had a lot of work making it some what better. I did my best, but the 6 inch piece that broke, was due to not being able to get support due to previous framing. It was recommended at the first estimate, that the home owner should think about tearing the whole deck out, and starting over. He did not want to pay the extra money. As far as the screws, nails, etc., we built this in December, with wind chills at 5 below zero, and we received 2 1/2 feet of snow while we were on the job while we were re flooring the deck. If a screw or a nail dropped it was not recoverable until the snow melted in March. Although we received a C rating, I was very upset because all our work is worth an "A". We take great pride in our work and want to give all our Angie customers a great job! Thanks Jeff Koller."

Jeff submitted plans to the towns building inspector for approval. While waiting for that the deck was torn down and removed. Wood was delivered. Approval came through and work begun. The piers were set in cement and waited about a week before the rest of the deck was built. Jeff was always very professional and even added an extra handicap rail for my Mom for going down the stairs into the yard! The whole process from beginning to end was a very positive experience considering having to do work outside in December 2013!
Jeff was pleasant to work with and was knowledgeable about the project, His sons also work with him. They did a very nice job on both the porches. The only problems we ran into were not enough hardware or product to complete the project, which delayed things a few days. Also a couple of times they were later than the usual 8 o'clock start time due to late inspectors at their other projects. There were personable and did a nice job cleaning up after themselves. I would recommend them.
He came out on time. He gave me a decent quote. I was very happy with the work that he did. I have gotten many compliments on the deck since he put it in for me.
