I've used Depot Lawncare for more than 2 years for a rental house I own in town. They do a mow and trim on a 2-3 week cycle during the growing season, then a gutter cleaning and leaf removal at the start of winter. They show up on time, are efficient and get the work done nicely. Their communication is excellent - their original estimate was done by using an aerial survey of the lot and calculating the amount of area to be mowed. I appreciate the electronic communications which have always been wonderful! When you live 900 miles away from the property you can't see every move, and with Depot I know that they do what they say, and that the yard looks great - and they send before/after pictures! Late this past summer Depot took on a much larger project: to clear 20 years of overgrowth along the front and sides of the property. It was not inexpensive - Depot pays its people well and as a result they have both high quality and stability in their employee team. At the end of the day though I had a crew that really did a nice piece of work. They also did many 'little things' along the way - like tackling and spraying the poison ivy that was everywhere - and cutting vines that were running up the existing trees. They ended up grinding all of the brush they cut and using the resultant mulch all over. It is a true moment of zen for dedicated landscape guys to run brush through a shredder. :) They are doing some additional mulching now with nicer-looking bark mulch and will be finishing up some stump grinding, and once the leaves are off the trees I will have them come back to do more brush removal to continue to open up the property. So net - I've used them for > 2 years and definitely recommend them! When you work with service providers from a distance, a trust relationship is everything, and I have that with Depot.

I learned a valuable lesson from this provider, though certainly not the one he probably thinks he taught me. That lesson is: ALWAYS read the negative reviews, and pay extra close attention to the provider's responses. If the responses posted to reviews are hostile, condescending, obnoxious, and insulting, then there is a pretty good chance your service will be too at the first sign of dispute or even question. I had previously left a good review for this company. For a one-time mow they did a great job. When I asked them for another one-time mow at the beginning of this season, they did a great job. So I went ahead and contracted their services for the season. On the first couple of mows, they had weed-eated very thoroughly, including right alongside the house. They stopped doing this though, and I emailed to ask why. (If you check their poorly-written website, they stress multiple times they don't want phone calls because they are avid users of technology, which I will get back to.) After the next mow, I emailed again. I was asked to send in pictures. I did. No further response. After the most recent mow, frustrated by the lack of a clear answer, I emailed them again and suggested I did not need their service if I was going to have to do it myself. Very shortly after this I received a long, rambly, hostile and frankly obnoxious email that stated the tiny strip of weeds between the side of my house and the driveway was considered garden bed and was not included in my service level, but I could upgrade my service level for it. I would not have considered that tiny strip a garden bed, but very well. I was also told I couldn't say they did it before because it should never have been done at all and the email included a screenshot of their website with a bunch of red MSPaint lines on it. After reading the incredibly rude email, I informed them that I didn't think it should have taken multiple emails to get this answer--which their own work crews apparently don't understand (which I will also get back to)--and that I wished to terminate their service. At this point, I received an even ruder and more obnoxious email informing me that I had been deemed a "hostile" customer, the owner had informed the office person they didn't have to deal with rude customers and proceeded to low-grade insult/slam me. This was particularly ironic as it was the bad attitude of his (or his staffer's--it was usually unclear who I was talking to, but apparently I was supposed to know somehow anyway) previous email that was what really lost him my business. He told me they didn't answer my previous emails because they only have one office staffer and he literally sent me a screen shot of his email box with the number of unread emails circled in red. If your business premise is that you rely on technology, you might start with figuring out how to catch up on your emails, and how to write them with something halfway approaching professionalism. You might also hire someone who has half a clue about website design to make something sensible and readable out of your company's website, and perhaps spend a bit more time training your crew. As for the garden beds--the real kicker in this story is that they NEVER STOPPED mowing the front half of what is absolutely, indisputably garden bed at the front of the house, that actually has roses and shrubs in it. I didn't even bring that up, because by that point I had already decided I was not going to give any more money to this company based on the quality of communication to which I was treated. So while the owner is yelling at me for not understanding his poorly written policy, his own crew was hit or miss on it in a way that made it impossible for me to understand what I was actually supposed to be getting. There are plenty of lawn mowing services in Nashville. No one needs to take crap from a guy who can't communicate with either his customers or his crews and takes it out on customers when they get confused and frustrated with erratic service and unresponsiveness. This business owner's lack of staffing, inability to create/enforce consistent standards for his work crews, and inability to speak to a customer with anything resembling professionalism and without rattling off a litany of insults and excuses are not the problem of his customers. In hindsight, the initial high-detail, high-quality service I received almost feels like a bait and switch, whether intentional or not. But don't take my word for it--read the responses he has posted here to every bad review. Nothing is ever his fault, and his replies border on character assassination or threatening in some cases. I have no doubt he will do the same with this review. He doesn't have time to answer emails from current paying customers, but he sure has time to argue online with and insult his growing number of dissatisfied former customers.

"Mrs. [Member Name Removed], There is no need for me to respond to anything you have written above. You seem to have a decidedly negative view of my company. Please read a recent positive review left by a very happy customer. Ask yourself what is the difference between the way these two experiences have been retold? Have a good day. Kumar"

I employed Depot lawn care this spring and they have done a great job mowing, the workers are always on time, very professional. The owner, Kumar Gonzalez is a different story. I asked him to trim some monkey grass in two very small areas. I took pictures of one. I am in a hurry to leave town on a trip for 2 weeks and he emailed me and told me to re-read my contract and went into a lengthy description of everything he wanted me to do. I gave him a blank check(my credit card) and was willing to pay whatever he charged. In a hurry I sent him a short email which read"Forget any of the extra landscaping. Just do the mowing and I will handle everything else." He took offense at this and accused me of "barking orders" at him and fired me as a customer. Left me in a tough spot 1 day before I am to leave on my trip.

Took longer time (over 10 days) to get appointment scheduled. Could not apply special pricing because grass was too high. This should be included as an "exception" when advertising a special lawn mowing price. Had to pay extra amount for tall grass. However, final job was well done. Definitely would use this company again.

The backyard grass died, which had no weeds. None of the weeds were treated in the front yard. He was also supposed to weed my plant beds, which did not happen. They also did a poor job in edging.

I asked them to put the sprinklers back after they mowed. They wanted to charge me $3 per sprinkler per time to move it back. My yard is a small East Nashville lot, it's not hard nor is the cost worth it.

I have a lock to my backyard that needs to be unlocked before they arrive. They would not keep consistent times each week so I was notified maybe a few hours before they arrived, different day of the week each time.

After trying to work with them, I emailed to cancel (they don't like talking with you by the phone). In my email I said I was disappointed in my service and I wanted to cancel immediately. His response back was lengthy, rude, and childish. He tried to blame all the service issues on me. Extremely poor service through the entire process. I'm not one to ever write reviews but the response I received to my cancellation email after all the other issues I had, made me feel that I needed to provide a review.

Response from Depot Lawncare
"Dear Customer, Making up stories, and posting negative reviews about a company is not going to help your lawn nor help you connect with quality lawn service providers. Your have a completely skewed perspective about what $35 per lawn mow will buy you in today's lawn care market. Your expectations for service and customer service are not reasonable nor customary. Also, factually speaking, mowing someones lawn will not kill it. Also, if you are out of town for several weeks during a drought/ dry period with unusually high heat and you do not water your lawn while you are gone it will look dry and stressed when you get back. Please do not blame your lawn mowing company for this. Again, $35 per lawn cut does not buy you any thing but a $35 lawn cut. It does not include lawn monitoring, or reports on the status of your lawn. If you have all your garden hoses and sprinklers set out all over they yard and want us to put them back into the lawn " exactly" as you request, it will cost an extra $3. Again, we do not work for free and $35 per cut does not include any extra services like arranging all your hoses and sprinklers after each mow. Also if you decline this service and say you will take care of it because you do not want to pay the extra $3, please do not then complain about it later. Thank you. Depot Lawncare"

They come every two weeks automatically. Only issue is when their contractor ran over my dog's leashes attached to a buried post in the yard. They've had to replace them for me a few times.
