DFW Deck & Fence Restoration

I wish to file a major complaint and request assistance in resolution. <br />   <br /> Complaint:  Contractor failed to apply specified color of stain to fence and contractor did not properly mix and apply stain to achieve adequate penetration of wood.  Stain is wrong color and stain coating has significantly deteriorated during the warranty period due to lack of proper penetration.  Contractor has not responded to numerous telephone requests, email and certified letter requesting the fence be re-stained under the 24 month Warranty. <br /> A.  Stain, as applied, was 2-3 shades lighter than stain specified by customer.  Contractor was notified within 30 days of initial application that stain was not the color specified.  Contractor agreed to return and re-stain.  <br /> B.  Stain did not properly penetrate wood and began to fade almost immediately after application.  Due to lack of proper penetration, stain color has continued to fade and stain protection has deteriorated to a point where stain is no longer adhering to wood.  Contractor was notified of this within 120 days of application.  Contractor acknowledged another project had same problem and promised to return and re-stain. (Pictures available) <br /> Contractor was called on multiple occasions and continued to promise to return and re-stain but never did.   <br /> Notifications to Contractor. <br /> 1.    30 days of initial application:  Contractor was notified by telephone that stain was not the color specified.  Contractor agreed to return and re-stain.  <br /> 2.    180 days of initial application:  Contractor was notified of stain deterioration by telephone.  Contractor acknowledge another project done at same time had same problem and promised to return and re-stain.  <br /> 3.     I Sent email & Certified Letter to Contractor making claim under warranty provision Contractor has not responded. <br /> <br /> <br />

We read about DFW Fence on Angie's list.  Kenny was prompt in his response and estimate.  He gave very detailed explanations of the planning and building process.  The work was completed on time and on budget with no problems at all.  Also, Kenny explained he does the post and slats a bit different from other companies.  I couldn't quite picture the results from his description, but the result are fantastic- much better looking than other fences in our neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Great company and wouldn't hesitate to use again.

Kenny was a personable, likable person. He promptly met with me to take measurements and provide quote. Once construction began, progress slowed, in part due to coordination with other contractor and material delivery issues, taking almost three months to complete. I was in no hurry, so it was not an issue with me. There were some issues with the design of the drive through gate, but we negotiated suitable changes and ended up with a satisfactory product. Be sure to specify that the lumber is completely dried and stained prior to construction or you may experiance warping as I did once the fence is complete.

The work progressed as plan, but some minor issues occurred. Clean up of the old fence material was slow and I needed to remind the owner that it needed to be done. The work schedule of the crew took some getting use to, the would show around 10 AM work until 2 PM, the come back around 4 PM and work until dark, I guess with the 100 degree day we were having I would have schedule my work times differently. Overall I was satisfied with the work and quality of the worked performed.

Workmanship was good. Small items were corrected quickly and professionally. Overspray did kill the grass in spite of claims that cutting it within a short period of time would prevent that. Still, by the end of the summer it all grew back. Because he runs the business by himself in the summer there were job delays. Might be a different experience in the fall & winter when I'm told he uses a crew to help.

 Kenny was responsive to my calls and showed up when he was scheduled.  He was a very nice person and very knowledgable on his products and the process.  I trust him and will highly recommend Kenny and DFW Fencing in the future.

We called a number of fence contractors on Angie's List and were most impressed with Kenny Dugan, owner of DFW Deck & Fence Restoration.  He took the time to explain the repair process, potential issues to expect and what we should expect from a contractor, whether we decided to use him or someone else.  It was clear Kenny knew his business and had pride in what he does.  NO ONE else took the time or cared to help us in this manner so we chose DFW Deck & Fence Restoration.  The price quoted was very fair and competitive (not the lowest), but the value and service provided was exceptional.  Unfortunately, Kenny ran into more problems than expected with the "builder grade" fence that was installed and it took him more time and materials than initially expected.  Honestly, my initial thought was we'd see the price skyrocket, but I was wrong.  Despite the issues encountered, Kenny honored his quote and did an exceptional job.  The clean up was immaculate and his attention to detail amazing!  It is clear that Kenny is a man of his word and a man who has high standards.  <br /> <br /> Bottom line, if you want someone you can trust and who will deliver the best price and value in the metroplex, have Kenny Dugan do your work!  It will be the best decision you can make.

We originally found DFW Deck & Fence Restoration through Angies List.  I contacted Kenny Dugan for an estimate around May.  He responded quickly and send us the estimate.  He also left a sample board with different wood stain colors for us to choose from.  We didn't make a final decision until July.  He was very responsive to all of our questions and told us up front what his schedule looked like and how long we would have to wait.  We had part of the fence replaced and all of it was stained.  Kenny and his crew did an awesome job!  They were responsible, pleasant, hard workers and left everything clean after they were done.  I would not hesitate to recommend him or to call him again to do more work for us.  We absolutely love our new fence!

I contacted Kenny via email and explained the services I thought I needed. The white cement molding trim on our house had some dirty areas and I wanted to have them power washed. Kenny responded to my email the same day & asked me specific questions so he could give me an accurate estimate. His next email included a fair price estimate and very detailed information about what he recommended, what the process would be, and how the power washing would work (what chemicals he might need to try, etc.). I felt very educated about the process after receiving this detailed email and decided to schedule with Kenny. <br /> <br /> Kenny arrived on time with a call ahead of time to let me know his ETA. We discussed what specifically needed to be done (since he had not seen the house in person yet). We both agreed the brick didn't need to be power washed and it would just be the molding - less work than he had given me an estimate for. He got to work right away and did some tests of the chemicals so he could use the least harmful (to plants, people, etc) but effective for our needs. He talked me through what he was doing, and pointed out issues he spotted along the way. <br /> <br /> The power washing was great, he did exactly what we discussed, charged me a very fair price for the work (less than the estimate b/c he didn't need to wash the entire exterior). Kenny is extremely professional, easy to work with, and educates you on the process before moving forward with the job. I am currently talking to Kenny about getting more work done as well.

The job was done efficiently and well, especially considering they were working in 100 plus weather.  The company managed to make an older fence look quite respectable.

Our fence had been damaged by a falling tree and after doing research on Angie's List, I chose DFW Deck and Fence Restoration. I contacted Kenny, the owner, via email and he responded promptly.(None of the other companies I called even returned my calls or followed up.) He was able to come out and look at our fence and emailed me a detailed proposal. He sounded extremely knowledgeable about what needed to be repaired and answered all the questions I had. We accepted the proposal and he was immediately was able to put us on the schedule. He and another repairman arrived when they told us they would arrive and worked so hard at getting the repairs done. He kept me informed about what they were doing and the progress that was being made. The finished product looks just like new. We couldn't be happier! Kenny was professional, knowledgeable, and worked hard to get our project completed. I would definitely use his company again and would definitely recommend his company to others!!

Called DFW Deck and Fence because we needed to have the fence and arbor stained.  Kenny came out and spoke to my husband and myself.   He measured the fence and explained in detail the different stains that were available to us.  After receiving an estimate,  we scheduled a time for him to begin work.   One trip was to pre-wash entire fence and arbor.  Next trip he covered everything and began staining entire fence and arbor.  He did an excellent job.  Fence and Arbor look brand new. We found Kenny to be very professional and we would not hestiate to call him again..   

Kenny is a very good person, willing to go the extra mile in explaining the scope of the project and what he does.  He spent a lot of time working with us on the details of the job and wrote up a fairly detailed price quote.  It took some time to get the lumber stained, as the wood was still too wet when originally requested from the supplier but no big deal.  From project beginning to end was almost three (3) weeks, as weather and some issues with the left over posts were encountered. The work went more slowly than originally anticipated.  Without question, Kenny has more work than he can handle at this time. If there's one bit of advice I'd give him is to not stretch himself so thin. He had 2 other fellas help with the project but they would do the straight forward work.  Kenny would do the more complex things like building the gates and working around pool equipment. Pick up and keeping the project orderly was an issue, but once pointed out, Kenny did a better job with that aspect of the project. The only other major problem was when his helpers went to lunch one day without securing the area around the swimming pool. Again, once aware, the issue was resolved but it never should have happened. The fence itself looks very good, and the quality and workmanship is solid. Again, this man works his butt off but having to juggle so many projects by himself is not sustainable. If you have patience, I would highly recommend this company, just make sure you know your project might take a little longer than expected.

Our fence was leaning inwards. Kenny repaired it using special bolts and was done within a few hours.

From start to finish it went very well. Except for the delay in getting to the house on the day the work was done, due to problems with a trailer tire, everything went smoothly.

Excellent, high-leval of service. Kenny is a complete professional. Fully explained all options and kept us up to dat on progress. He was able to have fabricated a special inset for our gate. Excellent quality and craftmanship.

Kenny came out on Sunday for the initial estimate to accommodate my schedule. I work and was having trouble finding time to meet. Kenny showed me the stain colors and described the whole process start to finish. He was able to start in a couple of days and finished the job as quickly as weather permitted. Kenny did an outstanding job of keeping me informed via email and phone messages. He always told me when to expect him and he was there at that time. The fence, pergola, and patio all look fantastic, like new even though they are now about 10 years old.

Kenny arrived when he said he would. Work progressed at a good pace. He explained exactly what he planned to do and offered suggestions. Minor problems were addressed as noted. I would not hestitate to use Kenny again...in fact, I've asked for an estimate to rebuild the arbor over the deck.

Great! Kenny Dugan came out and looked over everything first. He left us some staining samples so we could decide what color we wanted. He emailed us a detailed estimate within a few days. We scheduled the work, and he was able to do everything in one day. (He actually came out a few days before to bleach the swing so it would be ready to stain.) We had been trying to get the original installer of our iron fence to come out and do the repair welds, to no avail. Kenny was glad to do this for us while he was out. We'll be replacing our upper deck in the near future, and Kenny will be the one we call!

Kenny's expertise showed real quick. His grasp of the steep grades that he had to work with and my unusual requests did not bother him at all. He was punctual, kept all his promises, and the quality of the fence was much better than our neighbor's fence which cost him a lot more. He did some extra work to make my existing back fence pool code ready as well with no additional charge. Just a pleasure to do business with. Recommend him highly! JJy

We have a 440 sf deck that had been painted with a solor color stain/paint by previous owner and the finish was peeling off and showing wear. I called Kenny for an estimate. He came by I think the same day and met with my husband who was home with a sick baby. He sent me an estimate late that night. He gave us other options, but due to the proximity of existing landscaping we would only really repaint the deck with the same product. He powerwashed the deck with bleach to kill any mold, and etched the surface with some sort of chemical so the paint would stick better. A few days later he painted the deck and it looks great!! We also asked him about our fence (also painted with a solid color stain) and he was very honest and told us it was cheap wood and not worth repainting. He suggested letting it fall apart and then putting in a new wood fence, and keeping metal support poles. I appreciated his honesty in this and that is exactly what we will do in the future. He is very knowledgable and a super nice hardworking guy.
