Update: Unfortunately, DIY Kitchen and Bath and it’s owner decided not to do the right thing for his customer and grandmother of three. He stalled the litigation and offered a lowball agreement which included a gag order for me, my family, friends and relatives for $5,000. Ultimately, I refused to sign because of the amount and gag order. Even though he was given a $30,000 deposit and I had to redo everything he did, because he did not pull the proper permits. The redo costs me an additional $50,000 and legal fees. He chose to keep the money and dragged out the legal process. I dropped the case, because it was becoming costly. At this point I’m accepting this experience as a lesson that I needed. I needed to experience this type of questionable character and issues when you hire the wrong contractor. Now I want to share with you a few things that I learned to look out for when hiring a contractor. This is based on my lessons learned. First, do your research with government agencies. It’s like a Carfax check. Check with the BBB, DPOR, the courts, and Secretary of State. Government agencies will follow up with all parties concern before they report their findings. Then read the reviews. Check the courts system in your area or state. The state of Virginia has a data base. Issues with contractors is a public civil matter. Check the contractors name and/or business Name. [*** Link removed ***] Lookup a company in the Secretary of State website. See if the company is in good standing and other interesting information. [*** Link removed ***] Look up their contracting license with the state’s The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Make sure their contractor’s license exist, in good standing, and see if there have been any complaints. Also this is one of two places to file a complaint if you have an issue with the contractor. [*** Link removed ***] Go to the BBB website. The BBB website can be tricky, because if the company is not a member you will need to research a few areas where the company operates. This is another place to submit a complaint. It doesn’t matter if the company is a member or not. The BBB will contact the company before posting any complaints. [*** Link removed ***] Read reviews, read the good ones, but your focus should be on the one and two stars. They really tell the story and questionable patterns. Contract red flags. Look for the word “Arbitration” in the contract which means private court, which you and the contractor will pay a judge to hear your case. It’s expensive. This is one way a company can hide their wrong doings from public record. Based on research and learned experience do not give a contractor a 50% deposit. Find another contractor. A thriving business doesn’t need your money up front. A reasonable deposit should be no more than 30%. And pay as the work is completed not before. To Be Determined start dates (TBD) – get a start date in writing. Because the contractor can take your money and don’t start the work for up to six months or more. Look for a termination clause or add it if you can. I could go on but I’ve highlighted the major lessons. I hope this helps you avoid hiring the wrong contractor and will save you time and money. My last bit of advice don’t rush the process if possible. Lastly, Report, report, report to the government agencies. Then find a good lawyer if everything fails. Make sure the lawyer is experienced in construction law. Remember any lawyer will tell you they can do the work. But do they have a track record. Good Luck in finding a good honest contractor. And for any comments from the business to my review is “Bless your heart.”

It was slow to get much customer service at the start of my project but once Esli and Sunny became involved things dramatically improved. Esli was very helpful with steering me toward the best product for my jobs and measured accurately. Sunny is THE BEST communicator and was very helpful with the details of my order. I love my quartzite countertops!

They were over an hour late to both the estimate and instal They didn’t call to let us know either time. For the install we were told we were the first install of the day and that they would definitely be here on time. The actual install went ok. There’s one piece that our kitchen contractor informed us it was lucky we were putting in a wide backsplash (wood) because if we’d been doing typical tile there would have been a gap. They also were given instructions not to secure the pieces for what had been the desk area because we were having a wine rack installed and our contractor was going to install those granite pieces. Luckily my husband was paying attention a couple of hours later when one of the work men started adhering the pieces to the wall. Lastly, they dented our stainless steel refrigerator bringing in the granite. We have now left two messages concerning this and not heard back. I gave two stars rather then one only because the turn around was quick and they do look nice.

Terrible communication once my payment went through for my order of my cabinets and countertops. Several parts of the kitchen were not delivered and I HAD TO HELP UNLOAD THE DELIVERY VAN. Emails were not replied to, I still am waiting on parts of my kitchen 2 months later. Don’t even try to think that you’ll get a decent countertop. I have an older home and my contractor was appalled at the “job” that was done. I hind sight, apparently, real countertop fabricators get exact measurements for countertops through a laser device which shoots 360 in the kitchen. Frank came out with a protractor and never did the special notches and cuts that were asked of him. I only learned of the lack of quality once my contractor came to examine the installation and pointed out the issues (major). When I reached out to him, never once did Frank/Pasha ever come look at the job and see the issues or hear me out. He ignored me and blamed my contractor for not knowing what he was talking about. He told us to take him to court if we needed stuff fixed. He ignores phone calls, emails, and avoids any issues you have. I have now been without a kitchen for two months because Pasha/Frank doesn’t respond to emails and I’ve had to get a lawyer involved. BUYERS BEWARE- go with a top-rated, local business that has withstood the test of time. DONT BE FOOLED WITH HIS CLAIM TO BEAT OTHER PRICES. Stay away from this mess. After further review, Frank/Pasha has had multiple other fraudulent and horrible renovation “companies” in the Northern Virginia area. Look up Beltway Kitchen and Bath in Fairfax. I have no problem believing along with one of the reviewers that their Angies List and business badges are fraudulent. He has a longgggg history of being a scumbag.
Response from DIY Kitchens & Baths LLC
"Wow. What a dishonest unfair person and review. So disappointing. This person is a crook, she purchases materials and calls credit cards and saying materials wasn't delivered, big lie. Its a shame that she actually is a RN at UVA and we have to trust her with our loved ones. She is angry because we removed the countertop from her home for NONE PAYMENT. She kept threatening with bad reviews and here she has done it because she didnt get free stuff. Without shame and respect she mentions other business's names here, which is another lie because here is the truth: 1- She actually bought the cabinets from us and had them installed. Not like she claims she purchased at BL, in her own review she doesnt realize that she says, she bought cabinets here and goes on later, and says they are from BL. If there were from BL why are you complaining about us delivering? And says that she had to unload them? Beside its your responsibility to unload them, you were told that. You cant expect a shipping company to deliver cabinets in your kitchen. This is not about cabinets. Its about countertops. 2- She claims she purchased countertop from someone else without realizing that she actually says in her own review that it was from us. Confused from anger. The countertop was removed yesterday so she doesnt have a countertop yet unlike she claims. We removed the countertop because of FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY. Purchasing materials and later on calling credit card company for a credit back. Not here, we dont allow dishonest people to succeed. Threats didnt work.!! She thought she could use the system, maybe successful partly, but not completely and that makes me feel better about this encounter. The Angies List badge is real becuase its on Angies List : )"

I was very pleased with the work and how the job turned out. I went to different places looking for the exact color scheme I wanted to match my cabinets. When measuring my kitchen the owner said he had the exact piece for me. I trusted his judgement ( tho I was nervous). The countertops were just right! After being in my house for over a year I am happier now than ever with my purchase. The guys that installed them were nice also.

First and foremost the price was extremely reasonable. That was our selling point. The quality of work did not disappoint. A 2-man team stopped by and knocked out the work in 2 hours. Our countertop is around (ballpark) 40 sqft. My wife and I couldn't be happier. The owner was great to work with. I highly recommend this company.

I bought cabinets from diy cabinets. Extremely high quality cabinets. I installed them. I needed to exchange a couple of cabinets...no problem. exchange was done and in a couple of days I had the new cabinets. Everything very satisfactory. Granite countertops installed within 3 days of measure. Also an excellent job. I would recommend diy cabinets without reservation!

They were great. Pasha was very helpful from design to installation. Always on time, clean, responsible crew. Aaron always made sure if we had any questions. This is our third kitchen renovation but so far DIY has been best company we worked with. And we had our share of contractor issues in the past. We are very pleased with the workmanship, quality of product and price. We recommend DIY Kitchens Baths

My bathroom was a mess, it needed every surface replaced/refinished. I had a vision of what I wanted and Pasha made very helpful recommendations. DIY offers excellent choices in tile, quartz, granite and marble. The workmanship was excellent in all areas; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and the tile work was excellent. I'm thrilled with the finished product. Pasha quickly responds to questions and is committed to making his clients happy. I highly recommend DIY.

I see lovely pictures of other projects, but all I got was a damaged house, trash in the yard, a scratched tub, and not enough cabinets to complete the kitchen. I gave DIY Kitchen and Baths, Madison Virginia, a $30K deposit of a $60K job to remodel my mom’s home in Oct 2018. After numerous delay excuses they started in January 2019. He quit the job in February 2019 when I started asking him and the tradesmen working in the house questions about the work that was being done. I also, asked several times when he was going to pull a building permit. He said, he pulled it when I knew he didn’t, because I called the county. A building permit is a requirement before you start construction when you’re adding a new bathroom. Something a class, “A” contractor should know. Legal action is in progress.
Response from DIY Kitchens & Baths LLC
"This is a complete false and irresponsible review. We left this job based on mutual agreement because she wouldnt pay her bills, later on we found out that she wanted to use her cousin at a lower rate - still fine, but when the cousin abandoned the job she wanted us back but we respectfully declined it and it was too late for many reasons a) non-payment, b)unethical, c) threats (like this review) She also is talking about permits which is not true at all because she was supposed relocate her water heater to a different location which was not in our contract because we dont provide such service. The job start day came but it wasnt relocated and anyone knows a bit about construction will know that you CAN NOT have a permit until you know where you are running the water lines in this case to water heater. You need to know where that water heater is going to be. So to make the story short it was very frustrating. She brought 4 different companies to relocate the water heater but they all either left or postponed the installation. It was a mess and we were losing time. The day she told me that she couldnt pay and wanted us to leave I was actually relieved. She owed a lot of money but we eventually gave up and left because it was too stressful to deal with her."

I was nervous about doing a remodel. After reading great reviews I selected DIY Kitchens. My kitchen remodel exceeded my expectations, far more than I could have ever dreamed. Not just because of the high quality of products used. No, I can buy pretty countertops and just the perfect sink at any big-box store. What made this project special were the people DIY have on their staff. I met designer Pasha after sending an email from their website. I knew as soon as I met her that he would be the one who could design an amazing new kitchen for me. That's exactly what he did. He used her considerable talents and skills to imagine a kitchen I could NEVER have conceived. In fact, I looked at the first design and said, "That's it!" Next, I met Jeffrey, their contractor. This is a man who has never uttered the word, "no." He only says, "We can make it happen." Once Anthony came onsite, the project ran like clockwork. His team arrived on time each day, dealt with a curious homeowner (me) who was onsite as well, and left each workday with the site neat and tidy. It was a pleasure to have them demolish my kitchen and build a new one! Contrary to other reports of people who have experienced general kitchen remodel with different contractor nightmares, I can't tell you how grateful I am to Diy Kitchens Baths that this project went so smoothly. I rarely had to make any decisions, I didn't have to worry about mistakes or errors, and best of all, they finished the project when they said they would. I paid a considerable sum, but I got exactly the kitchen I wanted and the whole experience was amazing. I am posting before and after photos for you to see. The only problem I have now is my bathrooms are jealous of the kitchen. I'll have to hire DIY Kitchens again in about a year to make sure my bathrooms feel important again!

We bought kitchen cabinets and a countertop from DIY. We looked around quite a bit before we decided to visit DIY Kitchens and Bath. The costs seemed comparable or lower at DIY and we liked what we saw in the showroom. Working with a fairly small company, added a personal touch we really appreciated. Frank listened to what we wanted, had some very good suggestions, and did not try to pressure us to buy more expensive details. Thanks, Frank!

We had long-overdue kitchen remodeling project in our list, and when finally we were ready to do it, we contacted five different contractors. All of them had 5/5 rating on different websites with fair amount of feedback count in total, so we interviewed each of them. Among all five of them, Pasha from DIY Kitchens and baths was the one of only two contractors who actually measured every single inch of our existing kitchen. Further, Pasha was the only person who actually noted all details of floor plan we have in our mind, and also gave us feedback and his own idea. Other three contractors were immediately dropped from our list - as I don't want receiving ballpark numbers, and other remaining contractor was also dropped from our list as he wasn't detail oriented as Pasha was. There are couple of things what made DIY Kitchens superior compared to other contractors I worked with in the past 1) Pasha and Tony (project manager) were always reachable. They always reply my calls, texts and emails in timely manner. This was really important to me especially, as I'm busy for my work during daytime, so getting prompt reply was a huge thing to us. 2) Pasha always kept us updated about projected timeline and overall progress. He was always transparent with what was going on with delivery, electric work, inspection, why certain things are delayed, etc. He is extremely organized. Everything is noted, planned at his side, and so is in our contract. 3) Pricing was very fair. His service wasn't cheap but wasn't overpriced either. To us it was very fair pricing, as service we received from him and Diy Kitchens and Baths and final result they delivered to us exceeded our expectation by far. 4) All his workers have top-notch craftsmanship. They were courteous, and most importantly they were on time, always. If Pasha said workers will be in my home by 9:00 AM, they show up at 9:00 AM. No delay, no excuses. All his plumbing, electrical, kitchen cabinet crews and a designer were professionals. 5) Pasha is a good problem solver. We were challenged by couple of underlying hidden problems with our kitchen after demolition, and as our project made progress. He always found some creative way to resolve an issue at very fair cost or at no additional cost. 6) Unlike some other contractors, who will try avoiding responsibility for things that went wrong (could happen in any project obviously, happened here and there previously in my other projects, and some small things went not as planned in this kitchen remodeling as well), Pasha was very accountable and fully responsible for things went not as planned. 7) Most importantly, our remodeled kitchen has beautiful finishes and I am extremely happy with what Pasha and his company did. (see pictures) I would especially like to thank you Tony the project manager that has been with us and make sure we happy with any small detail. The trust he built with us through our kitchen remodeling project gave us enough confidence that he will be a our go-to-contractor for our next remodeling project!

DIY Kitchens did a great job remodeling my kitchen and building a mudroom for a good price and in a timely fashion. Whenever something came up during the process my concerns were quickly addressed and I loved the finished product. Very happy with my new kitchen and mudroom. Installed new white shaker cabinets, (very good quality for its price) black granite with leather finish, farmhouse sink, subway tile, plumbing, hardware and etc. Pasha was always and time and very responsive. I recommend DIY kitchens and I would hire them again. Will add photos later

It was a pleasure to with Frank and the team at DIY kitchens and baths. Frank provided a no-pressure consult and advice based on my style and family’s lifestyle. I gave a B for punctuality due to the need to reschedule due to an unforeseen delay related to a job they had earlier in the day. However, the communication, ease, and finished product were all excellent. I would highly recommend.
