Great! David was very responsive and had great suggestions on design and options. We now have a completely transformed exterior thanks to this project. And how many GCs are also published authors of children's books? David dropped off his books for our sons to read, and they love them. Thank you David for a job well done!

The job went incredibly well. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Dave was very helpful, knowledgeable, dependable, and professional. His crew was amazing. They worked so hard everyday and did excellent work. I was very grateful to him and his team for the work they did.

Subcontractors were professional and easy to work with. When an error occurred due to a recommendation Dave made resulting in obviously incorrect results ( large patches of significantly discolored floors), the original deadline had to be extended and extensive work had to be redone. Subcontractors went above and beyond to make it happen as quickly as possible and were apologetic. Dave however was rude and unprofessional (cursing me, shifting blame, no apology for the mistake). He added significant stress to a difficult situation. I would not recommend him, only the subcontractors.

DJS Construction did a fantastic job. We had a loft that overlooked our master bedroom and we needed it walled off to turn it into a guest room. We also had them build a closet, install more outlets, and a ceiling fan. We also had some HVAC work done that needed to have a soffit built around it. The construction was completed quickly and it exceeded our expectations. DJS was punctual and professional. They cleaned up well when construction was complete. I will be using them again!

David was punctual and very professional. The work was done quickly, cleanly, and very well. In one day the entire back yard was demo’d and our new deck was started promptly. Our deck looks great, the concrete under the deck was uneven but our deck is perfectly level. Our emails and texts were responded to quickly. We would recommend David for any project and plan on using him again for any home construction projects we may have in the future.

The DJS team was excellent! This job was to re-do a previous contractor's work, and the difference was night and day. Work was done on time, with great professionalism. The care the team took in minimizing the dust and debris in our home was so much appreciated. Communication was timely, work was well-explained. I could not have asked for a better experience.

David Velde from DJS construction Just finished redoing my 60-year-old bathroom. Not being a great shopper, he helped me with everything from choosing the vanity, faucets, bathtub to the tiles on my wall and floor. I could not have been happier with his suggestions. His prices were great. Even when he was faced with a variety of challenging surprises he barely raised his prices to reflect the extra work. David’s very reasonable initial quote barely changed by the end of the project. His tile person and painter (Shane McCallan) was excellent. His work was methodical. He was extremely careful always paying attention to the smallest detail. I could not be happier with the finished product. My bathroom looks sophisticated and beautiful. I also hired David’s company to paint my kitchen and bedroom. His price was very fair. Once again we were very pleased with the finished product. I would easily hire David again to take care of all my remodeling needs.

The workers showed up on time during Memorial Day weekend and worked in very warm conditions. They cleaned up after each days work and made every effort to ensure my neighbor's house and windows were protected during the demolition. The work wasn't quite finished before Memorial Day and they even showed up on the holiday to complete the work, which I didn't think they would. Overall i'm very happy with the work and with how professional Dave was during the whole experience. I would hire them again and in fact I requested quotes to replace all my windows and build a new front porch.

We are extremely pleased; very prompt response when we called for 1st visit/quote, as well as questions as job progressed. Contractor willing to make additional minor repairs to back porch area, outside of porch construction, to enhance overall appearance. Attention to detail was very good. The work crew were very professional, friendly and did excellent job of cleaning up after job completed. Job completed in timely way, as promised by the contractor. Construction included relocating existing drain spouts, which was done in keeping with how we requested. Contractor has been in business in Chicagoland for many years and has done other work in our neighborhood. We have other in house remodeling needed and I will definitely include them in seeking proposals. We are loving our new back porch!

David was very nice to work with. They started and ended on time. They pulled the permits for us which was really great. The kept the work space clean and orderly at the end of each day. Best of the all the end product is strong, solid and great craftsmanship. I would hire them again.

Demo started in November. I think that Dave and I would agree that was not the optimal time to do this project. It was a very involved project. Because of the roof top deck a structural engineer got involved in the architectural drawings and call for some really over the top supports. Dave's crew did a great job working with all of the demands of the plans. There are steel I beams as well as other laminated beams that were incorporated into the garage as well as a lot of steel to help with the stability of the structure. Dave's knowledge of construction came into play a couple of times. Most notably was the placement of one of the laminated beams. The architect had it in one place. Dave questioned that placement and made a recommendation for a different location. I consulted my architect and she admitted that the alternate placement was structurally more sound than where the drawings called for it to be. Dave also had several ideas during the construction that we went with that were benefits to us both structurally and from an aesthetic point of view. We wanted to be as maintenance free as possible. Dave put a special marine varnish on the pergola so it will not need as much maintenance as with using a normal stain. We also used all aluminum decking instead of wood. This was the first time that Dave's crew had use this type of product. It turned out very nice. We also used limestone on the iron stairs and it looks really great. Whenever I needed something done, Dave jumped on it and did whatever it took to make me happy. My only negative would be the cleanliness of the worksite during the entire phase of the construction.

Dave Velde with DJS Construction built out 3 offices in our dental facility in June of 2016. All of his workers and subcontractors were very professional and the whole process was well coordinated. He returned my calls and emails to answer my questions very promptly. The work consisted of metal framing, insulation, acoustical ceiling tiles, plumbing, electrical, drywall, cabinetry, floor tile and painting. The overall project cost was $56,000. There were a few unforeseen electrical issues that he took care of at a very reasonable cost. I would and have recommended them to others and have total confidence in their experience and capabilities.

I was looking for a contractor to update my kitchen in my condo in the Down town area in Chicago. A college of mine referred Dave Velde with DJS Construction to me and said their company does great work. I hired Dave's company to do a small project consisting of changing cabinets, counter tops, sink, faucet and dishwasher. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The project cost was $9,500 and he did a great job. During the time he was working at my place I consulted him on larger project I was commissioned to over see. As chief officer and accountant of the Consulate General of Lithuania, I was responsible for the budget and hiring a contractor to build out the consulate at our new location at NBC towers. I received multiple bids from the building manager that varied in price in from $574, 000 to $750,000. Dave gave me a detailed bid on the project that came in at $450,000. He met on site and at our office multiple times to meet with the consul general and answer many questions he had. He was very impressed with Dave and wanted to hire his company for the project. When I informed the building of our intent we received tremendous push back from the building manager whom we were still negotiating the Lease with. NBC Tower is a Union building and although Dave subcontractors for this project were all union they wanted to use one of their own contractors. I explained to Dave the situation with the building and that we had to retract our acceptance of his proposal. He was very gracious and professional. He offered to help us in any way if we needed. In fact he ended up doing the laminate mill-work for the project. Dave's efforts was extremely helpful in us getting a fair deal on our project. Because of his detailed proposal explaining many aspects of the project that was left off some of the other proposals, the building manager took over the project as a general contractor and guaranteed a cost not to exceed $425,000 including any overages excluding the mill work. I consulted Dave on the buildings offer and he suggested highly we accept the offer because it relieves us of any liability and shelters us from any overages that were sure to come from another contractor. The build out was completed by the building at the agreed budget. They did a great job and we our very happy. I can't express enough how much Dave Velde helped us with this process. His professionalism and advice was extremely valuable in us getting a fair deal during this process and relieved us of a tremendous amount of stress. I would refer David Velde with DJS Construction to any one for any size project. He is honest and very knowledgeable about construction.

The work was completed February 2017. We are very satisfied with the work, which we expected, based on the work they have done in the past. We would recommend Dave to anyone looking for a contractor.  The job cost was $8,500 for labor and rough construction material. We provided the sliding doors and cabinets

They were very fast and did a great job. They framed the walls and soffits in two days. Their electrician installed all new electric piping for new  outlets and can lights. They insulated, installed drywall and installed a coupe doors and wood work. We had someone else paint and install carpet. The workers cleaned up after them self, the project cost was $18,000 and took 4 weeks. I was very happy would recommend him to anyone looking for a contractor. <br> <br>

The project went extremely well and very fast. My cabinet company said DJS did a great job preparing the kitchen and made his job easier. I now have the kitchen of my dreams with a large Island and an eat in kitchen. I would recommend DJS for any remodeling project. He is very experienced and knowledgeable.

David Velde with DJS Construction was referred to me by a friend who had used him in the past. He agreed to take on the project himself although it was quite a distance. His worker Shane did the majority of the work and Lionel when electrical and plumbing were needed. Shane did a great job and Dave came out twice throughout the job to go over details with myself and him. The workers cleaned up and were very polite. They gutted my bathroom, put in a new tub, leveled my floors, put in new subflooring, new electrical, plumbing , drywall and fixtures. The total cost with fixtures and tiles was $10,500. The work was done in January, 2016 and took ten days. I am extremely pleased and would refer Dave anytime.

Not only was Dave himself extremely professional but his subcontractors were as well and the workers were so polite and cleaned up each day after themselves. They did a beautiful job and the building is watertight and everything done was high end. Dave's bid was actually slightly lower than the previous bid I had received. The total cost was $38,000 which included $1500 of additional miscellaneous repairs I asked them to do. I would highly recommend Dave to anyone who is looking for a good contractor. His work is excellent and he understood exactly what I wanted and he delivered it in spades.

<p>  My husband and I highly recommend Dave Velde for work in your home. We met Dave when we remodeled two of our exterior decks. Dave and his crew followed the plans and specifications to a tee and performed the work with a high degree of skill, workmanship and attention to detail. The final product was absolutely beautiful.  They constructed custom flower beds, benches and a built-in structure for an oddly located hot tub.  We were so pleased with Dave and his team?s work that when we decided to remodel our bathrooms, we didn?t hesitate to use Dave. We were again extremely pleased with the final results.  They gutted the baths down to the two by fours.  Dave is very knowledgeable in construction matters and pointed out to us that the plans created by someone else, contained errors.  The cabinets specified for the rooms were too wide, the towel closet was too big, the floor needed additional shoring and the electrical plans were wrong.  Instead of proceeding with the work he took the time to consult with us and make sure that the project was completed correctly and within reasonable time limits.   He has the best cabinet makers, tile guys, dry wall and painters that we have ever encountered.  They are craftsmen but charged a reasonable and fair price for high quality finishes. Now, whenever we need anything done at our house, we call Dave.  He has flood proofed our house, painted our house, installed a new gas grill, repaired cabinets (old ones), installed a wine cooling system with cabinets and counter tops (really beautiful), replaced all of the doors and hardware in our entire house and is in the process of installing new outdoor lighting.  Dave is responsive, efficient and always recommends the best and most economical method to approach a project.  We are ALWAYS pleased with his work.  Dave has virtually rebuilt our house which is only 15 years old and it looks great. My husband and I both work so it is important that we have someone who is easy to work with and can accommodate our busy schedules. Dave is extremely accommodating.  We communicate via email and he is always happy to meet us at our house early before work to review projects.  Dave and his crew always show up at the appointed day and time ? a rarity in this industry.   They are neat and always leave the work site clean and debris free.   We are really proud to provide this recommendation.  Dave is one of the true quality Contractors who cares about his work and goes the extra mile.  He has proved this over and over during the nine year period that we have been lucky enough to have him as our Contractor.   He is polite, efficient, hardworking and honest.   </p>

The whole project went very well. We began the job in March and finished in November. Everything looks beautiful, and Dave was extremely helpful and willing to answer our questions and request promptly. Daves workers were also very nice and helpful, and we felt that all the work was done in a timely and efficient manner.

We had been having problems with water intrusion in many places of the house including basement and some windows. We decided to fix the problems and asked around for a contractor. We contacted a few contractors. Dave was among them. Our neighbors recommended him because they had a good experience with him. We were impressed by his experience as a builder and his knowledge of construction in the city. Furthermore, he had extremely positive ratings on Angie'e List. So when he presented us with a honest bid, we decided to hire him. The basement work began as an exploration of possible causes of water intrusion and solutions. We initially hoped we could solve our problems by installing an additional sump pump. When Dave opened a section of the hallway, it was clear that this solution would not have worked. Our drain tile was installed too high, and there was no gravel below the slab and around the tile, just sandy soil. It looked like in the three and a half years we lived in the house, the water never reached the majority of the drain tile during rainstorms, came up through the floor and found partially its way back into the sump pump pit from below the floor. We considered every option, we involved a soil engineer and a structural engineer, Dave worked closely with them as well. We reached the decision to completely tear up the basement and replace the drain tile. Dave and his crew went to work and piece by piece dismantled and disassembled our finished basement (we have a guest room, a bathroom, a gym, a fireplace, and a whole bar). They took off and stored all doors, door frames, cabinets, baseboards, furniture, sinks, toilet, faucets, hot water heater for floor, etc. We made room in the house and garage for storing anything that could be reinstalled. They built a wall to separate our basement from the upper floor, reducing dust and keeping the working space isolated. They then proceeded with the demolition. They demolished the floor, up to 4 feet of drywall, concrete slab, floor heating pipes, excavated and disposed of several inches of sandy soil. Then they excavated channels for the new drain tile, installed it, surrounded it by the proper material, rebuilt the floor heating system, insulated it and re-poured the concrete slab. After this they proceeded with a new floor and re-installed all cabinets, door frames and baseboard, and painted. Our basement bathroom had also to be completely redone. The basement work lasted eight months, April to November. We were able to live in the house throughout the repairs. Dave provided us with hot water and air conditioning by hanging furnace and hot water heater to the ceiling. His crew was also able to maintain the existing floor plumbing (toilet, shower, sink and floor drains) sparing us from additional expenses. During the repairs to the basement, we had the kitchen hood duct replaced because it was too small, making the hood useless. They had to cut through the kitchen ceiling all the way to the exterior of the house, finding a path to install the new duct. This was done quickly and well, the ceiling repaired and repainted. Nothing splattered or damaged. Additionally, there was no flashing under the garage coping stones. Dave's mason pulled them all up and flashed them properly, again this work was performed speedily and properly. We had to do concrete, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, tile work, duct work, pretty much the whole range of expertise involved in building a house. We were impressed by the competence and attention to details showed by each worker. As usual during construction we ran into problems. Dave demonstrated to be extremely reliable, responsible and honest when faced with difficulties: he found solutions, proposed options, and took responsibility when needed. During this very invasive work, there has not been one day in which we felt not understood, taken care of, or ignored in our many requests. Dave and his crew were always ready to help and address our concerns as soon as we explained them. Having dealt with workers before, as a woman, I am extremely pleased at the level of communication and attention I received from every member of the crew. I felt respected, listened to and my questions addressed. I feel very lucky we hired Dave for this job. It is thanks to him that we maintained our sanity during construction, not to mention the happiness to have a basement that does not leak. He is one of the best contractor I met so far. He surpasses many in honesty and competence. I would and will hire him again.

Our experience with Dave and his crew was really good. Dave's crew did a lot of work for us quickly and professionally. We also appreciated prompt communication. And the price was very competitive. We bought a foreclosed house needing lots of work. We closed on a Friday and Dave's crew began work on the next Tuesday. They completed all of the work within seven weeks. We were not surprised that Dave's crews worked quickly because Dave moved quickly even before we hired him. I called Dave for a bid at 2:00 p.m. one day. He was on the property later that afternoon and provided me with a written estimate the following day. Dave also has capable workers for every type of home construction need. We interacted with his painters, his gutter guy, his HVAC guys, his plumbers, his electricians, his tilers, and his general laborers. All of them were very professional. We are very pleased with all of the work performed. Dave was also prompt with his communications, which is very important to me in a project lasting several weeks. I stopped by the construction site every night after work, and was always pleased to see progress. If I had any questions during my nightly walk-through, I called or texted Dave about my questions while on the site. Dave always responded to my inquiry that night or the next morning. Finally, Dave's bid was very competitive. We obtained bids from two other contractors. Dave's bid was much cheaper than one contractor and was about the same as another contractor's bid. However, we felt more comfortable with Dave and appreciated his expedient bid, so we hired him. Overall, we are very pleased.

Project went great start to finish. Dave and his crew showed up when scheduled, were extremely professional, and overall we are pleased with the job. I would (and have) recommend DJS to friends/neighbors.

I was stunned at the difference the additional 2' and new layout made. The finished product was excellent with no real issues to speak of and I'm confident that we added at least twice what we spent in re-sale terms. Dave and his crew were professional, considerate, and punctual. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or refer them to friends and family.
