Electrical for Home Addition or Remodel - Install, Electrical for Home Addition, Electrical Wiring or Panel Upgrade,

About us

When homeowners have questions regarding how to approach a repair problem or whether or not they should do anything at all, they need a qualified answer they can trust. Honesty is at the core of everything we do at DK Handyman. We are often asked to perform work that is not necessary. For instance, a homeowner may notice some dry rot around windows and request that we replace the windows. While that is certainly an option, many times the simpler and less costly solution is to replace the rotted molding with a plastic wood that will never need painting and will never rot. And, while we are certainly capable of installing things like hardwood, laminate, and vinyl flooring and garage door openers, it is often more cost effective to hire an installer who specializes in this kind of work. While it would be easy to simply accept the work in these cases, we do not feel that would be in our customers' best interest. At DK Handyman we will always point out a less expensive solution to problems if appropriate and if we feel you can get a better price from a specialized installer, we will tell you. Find out more about the man behind DK Handyman at DK Handyman's website.

I would hire Dave again in an instant. He is prompt, fair priced and is a pleasure to work with. If you don't contact DK Handyman, you are loosing out on the opportunity to work with a true professional. Thanks Dave for the service, and thank you for your service!!!

Obviously knew what he was doing. Quickly and independently replaced the damaged door and trim other doors as needed. Very responsive to what we needed.

Excellent service and friendly advice. We arranged a mutually convenient time to meet and go through the install. He confirmed that the original installation was correct (by a different electrician a few months ago), actually taught me what to do for the replacement, and left me to it. I ended up diagnosing that the original dimmer was mismatched to the track lighting transformer, and with his advice, replaced the transformer too.
So, the first dimmer was installed for $75, and yet he didn't charge me for this advice on the second. I couldn't be more pleased. We plan to bring him back for a number of projects around the house, and am looking forward to it.
The work was completed in 3-1/2 days. Dave spent about 2 hours with me just going over the list and looking over the house. He did not charge me for his time which was unexpected. When my job particulars went out to several handymen, Dave was the first to call me and make an appointment. He was punctual and professional. One contractor even refused to give me an estimate; told me he comes out to do some work that day and then charges per hour thereafter. Dave wouldn't even think of doing business like that.
As I said above, I remembered this handyman from 5 years ago. And when this substantial job came up, I remembered him immediately.
Dave is much more than a handyman. If I had to give you one area of expertise for Dave, I would say electrical.
I just can't say enough about Dave Kassab and his helper, "Brad" who did fine work in painting and caulking and install bathroom fixtures.
Dave from DK Handyman was great. He came out a week prior to look at the work that needed to be done and gave me tips to make the job even easier. He then sent Brad out to do the actual work the following week; we were pleased that they could come out so quickly after the initial estimate. Brad was prompt, called ahead the second day to advise me of his timeframe, and was very neat and courteous. We are doing a lot of the work ourselves, but getting the mud on and smoothing it properly are not things we are as comfortable doing. DK Handyman did a great job!
Dave and his coworker did an EXCELLENT job installing the dining room chandelier. He was on time and cleaned up after he completed the installed. He explained everything in detail - materials, effort, and the potential additional requirements. I will ring him again for other projects in my home. Please note: The original review I wrote was completely inaccurate, I had the services confused. Before I contracted with Dave to install the chandelier, I worked with another Handyman outfit to install my kitchen lights, it was a nightmare. I had the service names confused. Again, I am thankful to Dave for installing the dining room chandelier, it looks gorgeous!
Dave and his helper were very punctual. Dave handled installing the front entry door, and his helper took care of the upstairs office luan floor and french door. They worked at a steady pace and helped each other with the heaving tasks. The front entry door installation was a fairly normal change-out except the fact that the walls are block and stucco making the wall thickness more like 10" rather than the standard 4". The old door jamb was 4" and the new replacement door was 4" as well, with an additional 6" pack out from the jamb to the exterior wall because of the wall thickness. So seemed to be an easy replacement. I was home on the first day, but not on the second when the job was finished. When Dave came out to quote me on the job, he gave me a price of approximately $650. I was fine with that. Also during the first day I requested that they caulk 3 of my windows in addition to the original quote. My final bill ended up almost $1100! I couldn't understand why it ended up so much higher especially when they had no major setbacks or construction surprises.
At the end of the first day, the front entry door was in place, but still had to be trimmed out, and the luan flooring was down, and the french door was 95% finished. Everything looked to be progressing fine. On the second day, I returned to work, so was not home when they completed the job. When I got home, I was disappointed to see that reveal around the front entry door trim was terribly uneven. The left side reveal was about 1/4", but the top and right side was nearly 1". It was very obvious. The caulking job was also very sloppy and smeary. I was satisfied with the upstairs luan flooring and french door installation, and the exterior caulking around the tops of my windows. I called Dave (left message) to tell him I was not happy with the front entry door, so he called me back and made arrangements the next week to come out to fix the issues. In the meantime, I attempted to install the door knob on the french door but they forgot to notch out the side of the french door for the face place to rest flush. So I left Dave a note to fix that as well.
Again I was at work when he came back to fixed the trim reveal. But he didn't leave enough room for the door latch to clear the trim. So now as we close the door it hits the trim and is leaving a mark, plus the caulking job is just as sloppy as the first time. So I am going to have to rip the trim all off and replace it properly myself with the correct and even clearance all the way around the door. The other problem I discovered is that they didn't leave enough clearance on the bottom of the french door for the new finish material and threshold. So I had to take the door off the hinges and trim about 3/8" off the bottom so it would close and not rub the threshold.
This was a very disappointing experience, and my family and friends all comment about the bad workmanship. The real kicker is that I paid him nearly double his original quote!!!
We are extremely pleased with the service that we got from DK Handyman. Dave (the owner) came right away when we called to request an estimate for putting up drywall in our basement. Unlike all of the other contractors we got estimates from, Dave gave us the option for my husband to help with the project, which cut the cost of paying for an additional hourly person. We are very happy with how the drywall turned out. A plumber also came to remove a sink that went to a wet bar that we took out.
We talked to Dave about changing the lights in the room from a single light in the middle to recessed lighting. He explained how he would do the project and approximately how much it would cost. For both of those jobs we got the $25 Angie's List discount ($50 total). Dave gave us lots of good advice and ideas for how to go about doing other projects in the room on our own. It was a great experience overall and we would recommend DK Handyman to anyone that needs the types of services they provide, and we would also use them again for other projects in the future. The prices were honest, fair, and competitive and we are happy with the high quality work that we received.

We were extremely disappointed in him. The price wasn't worth it because we had to have everything done over except for the switch. The price would have been fine if we hadn't had to have it done over. They did come back and change the faucet. It is not quite right because it makes noises but the hot and cold were fixed. They were punctual. We have recommended to all our family not to call this person.

Came for initial estimate and completed work in a timely mannner. Re-work was needed which took more follow up to have happen than I expected but the rework was completed. My only comment is to make sure you know exactly how long the work will take and decide if the hourly rate (x) duration matches what you expect for the work you need done. I ended up spending significantly more than I expected to complete the work. Not sure if that means his hourly rate is high, he took longer to complete the work than it should or I should have had someone else do the types of "chores" I needed done. As a general handyman I think the work I had done could have been completed for less money.
DK Handyman did a really good. He gave me a receipt and he had charged me a removal fee, which was not discussed at the beginning. I was shocked to find that after all the work was done when we hadn't discussed it. The work was really great. That was the only negative. I think all fees should be explained up front. Other than that everything was great.

David was able to save me money by suggesting alternatives to what I thought were the appropriate requests. For example, I thought I needed a brand new toilet, but David pointed out that all I needed to do was to replace one part - someone less ethical might not have made me aware of this simple fix and charged me a lot more money. David is very courteous, friendly and understands the value of his reputation because he is a part of the local community.
The estimate that Dave gave me over the phone, based on my description of what needed to be done, was pretty accurate. He came the next day with two workers who worked quickly, neatly, and did a great job. His two guys worked for about 3-1/2 hours. He charged us $75/hour for each of his two workers, plus the cost of materials. Dave and his two workers were very professional. A couple of the problems turned out to be smaller than I first thought. The leaky kitchen faucet, for example, was just a matter of tightening something up. A less reputable person might have tried to sell me a whole new fixture, but Dave had his guy show me exactly what needed to be tightened so that I'll be able to fix it myself if it happens again. Honesty and integrity like that means a lot to me. I will definitely call Dave again the next time we need repairs done around the house.

I purchased a replacement storm door but once I opened it up and looked at all the measuring, drilling needed I decided to give Dave a call. He had done some handyman work for me before and did a great job then also. He gives good advice and will answer any questions you have about items around your home. The molding around the storm door had rotted some also and per Dave's recommendation he replaced it with plastic molding that looked great but would last much longer. I will use him again the next time I need to do any type of "Handyman" job I don't want to or can't do myself.

We had to remove drywall, all around the room in our basement. Dave (DK) reinstalled the drywall and got it ready for painting, as well as installed new trim, built a frame to hide our water shutoff and build a small box to allow our dehumidifier to drain. He was professsional and thorough throughout the process. He came in very close to his estimate, even though we asked a bit more of him. He has even agree to return to put some wall registers in (already cut out) after we finish painting. We would definitely recommend DK Handyman and will likely use their services again.

Dave does wonderful work! We had started to enclose a screened in porch 2 years ago and had only gotten the outside completed and part of the inside. Dave knew we were on a tight budget and worked with us to keep costs down but not sacrificing quality. He allowed my husband to help him which saved us the cost of a second worker but getting the work done just as fast. He was very patient in showing my husband how to do things. He gave us great ideas on how to finish certain details of the room - which would ultimately save us money in the long run too. He also returned our phone calls within an hour or two and arrived promptly every day he was scheduled. He had one of his workers come out to finish up spackling and grout the tile floor and he was just as professional as Dave and did a great job too. We will definitely use Dave again on future home projects and we've already recommended him to some of our friends!

He went out of his way to make himself available when it was convenient for us; conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and dilligently took steps to protect furniture, stairs and walls so as not to cause any damage. He was a true professional and a joy to work with.
