They scheduled and rescheduled several times and to be fair on this one, part of the reason was because of weather, but it was still very frustrating.
Shortly after the work was completed I contacted the company several times about a crack that formed very early in the patio. NO ONE ever responded to me. I now find myself disgusted every time I look at the concrete, especially when I walk on my driveway. Even before having the first winter with the new concrete, it started having problems and looking bad. Now that 2 1/2 years have passed, this is the worst looking concrete I have ever seen in such a short period of time. The new concrete within a few months started peeling, chipping, etc, and now there are numerous areas with exposed aggregate, especially the driveway. Our previous driveway and patio were 33 years old and they didn't begin to show these types of problems for many many years. We never use salt or chemicals on our driveway....never have and never will! There was a new driveway poured (by a different company) a few houses up from us just shortly before Domian completed ours. Interestingly, it has none of the problems we have.
Perhaps they rushed this job because they were running so far behind in their jobs, or perhaps this is just the level of sub-par work they tend to provide. What ever the reason, I find myself feeling ripped off by this company, and would never recommend them or use them again.
Kevin was very responsive to our very tight schedule. He was able to get the job done, when no one else could. His price was also very reasonable. His outfit is small, so we did have a day's a delay, when a piece of equipment was damaged. However, Kevin appears to be a hard worker, who will do whatever he can to get the job done. The end result was very professional and clean.
I have nothing but positive things to say about Domian Paving. Nathan was knowledgeable and friendly during the whole process helping us pick out the stamp, color and design of the patio. He followed up in a timely manner and was true about all costs and dates. I always felt comfortable and confident with the relationship. Kevin and his team executed the tear out and installation of the new patio without any issues. The end result is a great patio with an excellent fire pit.

Domian completed replacement of my front stoop, steps and sidewalk October 2014. The work was started and completed in one week.

In January, I noted two broken areas, one completely across the width of one section and the corner on another section. I contacted Nathan at this time and received a message they would be by to look at the areas. Nathan did indicate that their was someone he was waiting to repair this area but I have heard nothing about any plans to follow up and complete this repair. I have contacted both Nathan & Kevin multiple times since then with no response and no repair.

Although this is not the primary reason for my review, I will add that their work is sloppy. They were in a great rush to get my project completed and the sides of my sidewalk are rough with many areas that should have been smoothed over. When I pointed this out to Kevin he suggested I use plants to cover the area. I withheld the final payment until these areas were cleaned up but it is still not a good quality finish.

I would have been satisfied with a simple conversation and date for this repair. I'm sorry to write this negative review but as indicated in another negative review-this is the only way I can get their attention and this repair completed.

It was wonderful. They came and gave me an estimate first. The concrete work is perfect. They came on the start date that they gave me and they finished the same day. I am happy with their work.

Let me start by saying I was referred by a friend to get a bid from Domian Paving & Concrete. Kevin, the owner, met me at my house and we discussed my project and a few different options. Kevin was very helpful in determining the best layout for a new patio in my backyard. When I received the proposal for my project I was pleasantly surprised to find it was much more competitive than other proposals I had received. In fact, I had Kevin come over again and explain exactly what that proposal all included because I wanted to make sure he and I were clear on expectations. Once the project began his crew was very patient and accommodating with last minute changes I wanted to make as they were laying out the forms. Even when it came time to add the antiquing application in the final phase Kevin was very patient and helpful in ensuring I was pleased with the color before applying the sealant. I am very thankful I found these guys to help transform by backyard into an amazing outdoor living space. I would recommend Domian Paving & Concrete to anyone wanting a one of a kind stamped concrete project.

Sincerely, Michael Johnson

"When it comes to stamped/colored concrete jobs, we do our best to work closely with the customer to ensure their satisfaction. Maybe that's why we seem to be doing more and more stamped jobs each year. So far this year, half of our jobs have been decorative concrete. We are excited to hear that you are pleased. Thanks for the review. PS: We love that pattern you selected! We will be recommending it to future customers."

They are pros. From the bid process up until completion of the work they were easy to get a hold of, they answered all our questions, and the quality of the work was top-notch. Our porch looks so much better now, and we'd hire them again for any similar concrete or paving projects.
"The pleasure was all ours. It's amazing what a little concrete makeover can do in terms of adding curb appeal. Your project is a perfect example. The best of luck to you and your wife as you move into your new home, and thanks so much for the review."

Past tense is inappropriate because it is still going on!
Background: Favorable reviews on Angie's List; in business since 1976; contract signed on July 30, 2014 and deposit for $2,158 mailed to company. Never met the owner, Kevin Domian, but dealt exclusively with Nathan Schandl, business manager. Agreed to an after-Labor Day start date. Work began on September 11 and was completed on September 17 or 18.
Schandl insistent that balance due on the day work is finished even though I tried to explain that I had just been released from hospital after major surgery and wanted some time to walk around and inspect the job. We did okay payment through credit card. Are still waiting for receipt or warranty as promised in contract.
Findings upon inspection: globs of concrete still adhering to sides of the job; whole section of existing fence to patio had been removed by workers (never mentioned in contract) and gate left without handle or lock; front porch width extended (workers' choice) which left drainage system dug up and unburied. Schandl's explanation: customers often have an unrealistic expectation of what a finished job should look like.
Fast forward to early January 2015: We walked to the edge of the patio and looked down at a cracked slab of concrete! Called Schandl who assured us that Kevin Domian would call soon. Soon became a week and we continued daily calls to both Schandl and Domian. In desperation, called Domian Asphalt Paving Inc. owned by Larry and Denise Domian. Didn't realize that Domian Asphalt Paving Inc. NOT the same as Domian Paving and Concrete. Go figure -- logos are the same; business slogan is the same. Only connection: one has been in business since 1976; the other one is owned by someone who wasn't even born in 1976.
Finally caught Kevin Domian on his cell phone and he came out on January 30. Agreed to replace slab in early March when weather improved. It's April 9 and Kevin will not return our calls.
We have spent over $6,000 on a job that looks like it was done by first year apprentices, we will need to hire a landscaping contractor to bury the drainage system in the front of the house, we can't do the landscaping to the raw earth until the cracks in the slab are repaired, and Kevin Domian WON'T RETURN PHONE CALLS.

Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"This review is a complete misrepresentation of the work that was done, as well as a complete exaggeration of any small issues that resulted from the construction. The work here was flawless, and we have the pictures available to prove it. At no point did we avoid calls or emails, and the conversations that took place between us and this particular customer are not accurately conveyed. At the end of the day, we feel strongly that this customer left this "revised" review in an effort to get our attention (when she already had it). The original review is a much more accurate representation. Impatience on behalf of the customer is what we attribute this terrible "revised" review to. It is most certainly not a result of the quality of our work. We are shocked at this review, and feel betrayed by the complete misrepresentation of our craftsmanship. We wish any future contractors the best of luck in satisfying this customer."

The removal went well considering that the previous owners had poured concrete over the existing patio to raise it up and therefore took more time to remove it all. The new patio was then poured to our specifications and everything was cleaned up. We are very happy with the job.
Nathan, the business manager, was very pleasant. He gave us a proposal within a week after coming to our house and kept us informed during the entire job.
I would definitely use them again.
Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"It is true, your concrete was definitely thicker than anticipated. You just never know what is under existing concrete. We run into this situation quite often. But at the end of the day, it's nothing we can't handle. It was a pleasure working with you. We can't wait to come back out and provide you another bid for your retaining wall, as well as your driveway/walkway in the future. Thanks again for your business and we look forward to hearing from you!"

Winter 2013-14:
Hired Domian based on Angie's list reviews. Marcus with Domian came over
to give a proposal and I awarded him the job. They installed the patio in
winter of 2013-14. The job itself was conducted very professionally - the crew
was courteous and cleaned up very nicely after themselves. They even
graded portions of the backyard to allow for proper drainage for no extra
charge, even though this was not in their proposal. Marcus was on-site and
supervised the job. No complaints against him.
Spring 2014:
Now comes the bad part: in the spring of 2014, when the rains came, we
discovered that parts of the concrete was actually sloping TOWARDS the house.
This caused rainwater to flood the garage and get into the crawlspace of the
house. I called Marcus, who responded immediately saying that he was no
longer with the company and that I should talk to Kevin Domian. I talked to him
and he promised to come over and take a look. Two weeks went by and he never
showed up. I sent him a note reminding him again about the problem. He
again promised to come over within a week. After the week was up and he hadn't
shown up, I sent him a note saying I'd be forced to write a negative review on
Angie's List. He showed up the next day. He used a level on the patio and
acknowledged that the slope was messed up. He said he would do a concrete
overlay within a week to fix the problem. Three weeks later, I messaged him and
he said he was having money issues but would fix the problem in a few weeks.
Two months later, I followed up with him again and never heard back.
It has been more than 6 months and the patio continues to
flood the garage and crawl space. Do NOT hire Domian Paving as the owner Kevin
Domian is very unscrupulous.

Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"We apologize for the lack of response and have every intention of making this right. Kevin was overwhelmed a bit while trying to run the company by himself. But as the new Business Manager I was excited to meet with you this week! I spoke with Kevin after visiting with you on Monday. We proposed you two solutions. One that would have us breaking up and re-pouring the problem areas AND re-pouring some additional patio space that we didn't work on the first time around. And one that would fix your problems without any additional work being done. Either option you chose is fine with us. We appreciate you being patient with us while we went through some changes and look forward to making this right!"

The whole job was broken up into two parts to facilitate their schedule, our schedule and the City permitting weirdness. Domian was there when they said they would be there, did what they said they would do and communicated it all clearly and completely before it happened. Nathan, the business contact was extremely easy to work with and very good at communicating. Kevin, the owner, is very knowledgeable and really knows how to get the job done. A great combination!
Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"Acquiring permits is never an exciting of fun part of a project. For this reason we do our best to try and take on the steps required to obtain them on for our customers. It usually takes a set of site plans and a little bit of planning. In the case of your project, it involved much more. Hiring a structural engineer, drawing site plans, submitting them to multiple different city departments, and running all over town for several weeks was required. But that's OK. Someone had to do it, and that's what we are here for. You guys were a pleasure to work with and were patient with us (and the city) throughout the entire process. As a result, all the work was completed to your satisfaction, as well as the city. In fact, throughout the process your neighbors were all stopping by in awe of all that you are doing and I think you may have raised the bar for the entire neighborhood! Despite the extra challenges required for the permits, your job was one of our favorites this year. You and your family are good people and easy to work with. We wish you the best of luck with your new storefront business and to attending the grand opening party!"

July 2nd removed old concrete pad and replaced. Domian was to install
rebar and fiber mesh, which was not done. Domian extended the warrenty to 5
years on the concrete

August 15th original start date, which I called on August 12th to verify and
was told yes we will be there. Work was not started. Domian stated on the 15th
we are running behind and cannot start.

August 19th ? start date per Domian ? no work done.
Kevin Domian is running this company into the ground. This is the second time I have used them. The first time I had a great experience with Marcus. I am in the process of taking this company to court for work that was not completed. I elected to not have my patio steps torn out and Kevin promised me that he would come out and match the stamp color to the existing steps. Needless to say it has be 5 months and it has not been done. Kevin does not return telephone calls, text messages and is very unprofessional. He even had his 5 year old daughter on the work site. Surely you can afford a sitter. Also one time he cancelled an appointment with me and then later had the nerve to tell me it was because he went out of town with his buddies. Do not use this company you will regret it.

UPDATE: Nathan states in his comment review that he is new and started shortly after my job was completed. So I'm confused as to how he is able to give any sort of insight when clearly he was not involved with my concrete job. His opinions are clearly based off lies that Marcus has fed him. A smart business man would remain neutral.

The only thing we agree on is the price. I accidentally added an extra 0. It has been updated.

I will not speak any further about this matter since our case is pending. I will absolutely come back and update after the court proceedings.

Regardless to whether or not someone is actually doing the physical labor I think we can all agree that a toddler does not belong on a work site where concrete is being poured. Family men find appropriate child care alternatives.

All the positive reviews that you see regarding Domian are from when Marcus worked for the company. Kevin doesn't do any of the physical labor yet he is still too busy to return phone calls.

Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"Hello. My name is Nathan. I am the new Business Manager. I replaced Marcus shortly after your job was completed. But I have discussed your job (and your review) with our owner Kevin Domian. I would like to clarify a few things in order to provide our existing and future customers with our side of this story. First of all, this job was a $5,100 job (not $30,000). The stamped concrete patio that we were hired to install was executed flawlessly. Kevin worked with you to hand select the stamp texture and color of your new concrete patio. This element of the job was the bulk of what you hired us for. Your complaint stems from the 3-4 stairs that you elected us not to remove or replace. Instead, you asked us to paint the steps and match the color of the new stamped concrete. We are not painters. We are concrete contractors. We offered to paint your steps in an effort to be flexible and help you keep the cost of the project down. At no point did we (nor would we ever) suggest that any can of concrete paint would be an exact match when compared to a patio poured with liquid color mixed in. It is impossible. You are talking about two completely different products, as well as different manufacturers. One is mixed in wet concrete and set to dry. One is painted on existing concrete. We did our best to select a concrete paint color that would match the color we mixed in your new stamped patio. In fact, we still feel as though it was about as close as one could hope for. But to expect an identical match is just not realistic. Kevin was not working the day he brought his daughter onto the job site. He was simply checking in on the crew to make sure everything was going according to plan. He is a family man and happened to have his daughter with him. He has not returned your calls or texts because of the very allegations you listed in your review. We consider this job complete; and a job well done. If you do not like the color paint we used on the steps, we would recommend that you purchase a new can of paint and take another stab at matching the color you desire. If you want to take us to court for something as trivial as painted steps, we have pictures of a job well done and a signed contract to tell our side of the story."

They did a great job on our concrete patio! Here's why I would recommend them: - they helped me figure out the design that would work best for my house. - they worked with us on finding a solution for vents that were on the way. - they were flexible with me wanting to make last minute changes. - they offered competitive pricing. The only downside was that they couldn't do the job right away. But they also told me that upfront. I guess that's the price you pay for hiring busy people!

"Thanks so much for the review and honest feedback. We always do our best to be flexible when it comes to making adjustments on the fly. It can be difficult for customers to see everything and consider all options before we begin construction. Being flexible as a contractor is what allows people the opportunity to have fun when taking on these projects. Thanks also for your patience in allowing us to get to your project. We like to stay busy all year round. The summer months are usually pretty booked up. But when you hire us, we bring quality work at a valuable price. It’s usually worth the wait. In fact, I’ll be by there this week to give you an estimate on your asphalt driveway. We look forward to taking on yet another project for you this year!"

They showed up on time and completed the work. But unfortunitly it was incredibly hot when they put the patio in and the concrete set up to fast when they tried to stamp it and had a lot of issues. The final product was not what we would consider a professional job. They did work with us to reduce the price because of the workmanship was marginal at best. I have no doubt the patio will last a long time but the appearance could have been a lot better.
Domian responded when three other concrete contractors wouldn't even answer the phone to give us a bid. They said that they usually work on larger jobs than ours but they would give us a price if we would agree to be flexible on the work date. Since our job was a smaller one, their plan was to complete the work when they could couple it with another job nearby. We agreed.

It took a few weeks to get scheduled but they came and did nice work over 2 days and were very courteous to my wife who was home during part of their work. It started to rain after the concrete was poured and one of the workers said he lived nearby and if weather posed a threat he would return to cover their work. The rain was light, no cover was needed and the sidewalk looks good. The buried downspout now empties rainwater harmlessly to another part of our yard instead of the walk up to our front door which will be a major improvement when winter comes.

I should also add that our sidewalk was not a routine install. It was located over a section of side yard that had a layer of solid rock that prevented the usual dirt removal and form set. The brought a bobcat to clear the path so that the sidewalk would follow a smooth, level path parallel to the street.

There were no surprises. They did what they promised and their workmanship was excellent.

"It was a pleasure working with you and your wife. We do our very best to try and work with people and give them a bid on their project; regardless of the size. Not everyone needs major construction. Sometimes people just need a couple random (or smaller) projects done that require concrete and/or asphalt work. To be able to help people wrap up these types of projects results in happy customers that may or may not be looking to hire us for larger projects in the future. We are happy to have been of service to you, and hear that you are satisfied with the entire process. Thanks again for your business!"

Everything went according to plan. garage floor tear out took one day with the pour the next. Front walk tear out and forms for all walks took one day, plus another for pour. Very fast, pleased with work. Only two out of 50 boxwoods were affected (lined the front walk) showing the extra care given to protect them during the big walk removal.
Thanks again for your understanding about those two box woods! There were so many of them, and they were so close to the new walkway. I know they guys did their very best to avoid shrub casualties. I am a licensed professional civil engineer in the State of Missouri and frequently specify concrete work in my professional life. I strongly recommend Domian Paving and Concrete for work similar in scope to what they provided me.

I called on 7 Contractors listed favorably in the BBB in order to get quotes for the work. Domian came in with the lowest price, and the fullest scope of work. In meeting each of the Contractors I requested bids, Kevin Domian came across as a true professional and was able to answer many of my technical questions.

Removal of the old driveway took one day, and was performed within the limits of the old driveway - not damaging any of my surrounding lawn. Formwork and placement of the concrete occurred on another day with a broom finish on the concrete. Control joints in the concrete were made very straight, and cleanly. Domian stripped forms that evening, and backfilled and fine-graded the areas where the forms were constructed, to where everything looked nice. The following day, Domian returned to prep and apply the cure and seal product.

Domian was responsive in providing me with Certificates of Insurance the day they mobilized to the site. They also were helpful in getting me release of liens from their material supplier.
Response from Domian Paving & Concrete
"Thanks so much for the thorough and detailed review. It is always a pleasure doing work for customers that have a construction background, and the ability to notice all the details of a job that comes with it! We are thrilled to hear about how satisfied you and your family are with the new driveway. Thanks again and please keep us in mind for any future projects you may have."

Kevin was prompt in securing the contract. However, the project did not start as as scheduled due to rain. I had to call multiple times and write several emails to get a response and finally get job started. Job lasted about a week. Driveway has spots where water pools. They were supposed to dig up a creek and put rock in it, but completely messed it up. Creek is not graded properly and water accumulates at multiple spots. They did not come back to repair the damage to the yard. Once they left, they did not respond to several emails and phone calls. I would not recommend them for a project.
