Don is a nice man, a hard and fast worker, and is skilled with certain abilities. He will not/cannot do any electrical, plumbing, or siding. He stated that he prefers working on newer houses, so older houses are not his forte. He is capable of what I would classify as minor-moderate handyperson duties (see work performed). He can get overwhelmed if a long list is given at once, so if you use his services, try to provide a few tasks at a time. Once I understood his scope of experience and style, working with him went smoothly. His hourly rate is very fair, and is commensurate with his services. I have contacted him for more work and would definitely hire him again.
I bought a big deal for this service and he did just fine; I have no complaints. Most everything he knew just what to do and on one thing he said he did not feel qualified to do that, which I appreciated, rather than trying something and messing it all up. So he was just fine, very good. He showed up on time, did the work great and was excellent. That was an excellent price.

Initially, I had to ask for a refund and ask Angie?s List
specialist to step in to resolve the services I received from Don?s Painting
& Handyman.
I?m a U.S. Army Veteran who recently purchased a house and
was in need of some light and some major repair?s, so I thought Don?s would be
a good choice, at the time there were some questionable ratings, but the majority
of A rating outweigh them.
The end result was I got a refund a apology and acknowledgment
that there was a over booking of Angie?s List Deals, and a problem with one of their
worker which is no longer with Don?s.
I was satisfied that the issue was resolved and behind me,
and I had already move on and got the work I was hoping to have Don?s service
do done by a different company outside of Angie?s List, The cost was higher,
but I was fine and happy.
Sometime around the week of Memorial Day, I received a
E-mail from Don?s Painting & Handyman, It looked to a apology to Angie?s
List customers, saying that they are hoping to regain the trust and rebuild their
reputation and if any message or call for service to please do so.
At first I was not sure, but I thought one of the TOP guys
with Don?s services I like, Daryle, he
is also a U.S. Veteran, and seem to be a person that could be trusted
and stood behind his work, so I decided to message Don?s service and give them an
other try.
I needed a door to open into the hallway, instead of the
room it currently did, this was one of the owners specialty, Don, he had to
remove the molding and turn it the other way, he fulled the hinge hole & the
old door latch with wood putty, and then
Don had to reset the mold and the carve out hinge and door latch.
The door works like it was always on and opening into the
hallway, Don did a great job.
The other job I needed to have done was to have some patio
blocks set up, I had a new eGress window
install, and by doing so there was a hole added and 3 sidewalk block
removed, so I needed to have some temporary patio blocks around the eGress
window hole WELL, so as to not have people walk in dirt in to my back door.
This 2nd new job , Daryle
was going to do, he started it on a day it was raining, so he had to stop and
come back the following day.
The very next day , Daryle showed up ready to work, he got
down and hand dig the outline for the patio blocks, we ended up only using 12
patio blocks, 12 inch by 12 inch squares with a couple smaller one on the
outside edge.
I was not keep good track of
time, but I believe it seem like the door was 2.5 hours, maybe it was less, as
DON is a GREAT carpenter in my opinion and the door is better then I had every
anticipated, but I?m only giving a ruff guess on time.
For the patio blocks time,
again I was not keeping track of the time, but I would give a give a rough
estimate of 4 hours, digging, places , clearing , going to get supplies, and so
on.
When , Daryle was all done, I was MORE then happy
with the JOB Don?s Painting & Handyman had done this time around.
We did not come up with a price, and I believe Daryle had it
planned out the WHOLE time, but when I ask for the receipt for the supplies and
give him the CASH, and I ask NOW what do I OWA for all of your TIME for the
work, Daryle Said Thanks from a FELLOW U.S.
Veteran, no charge for labor.
Has Don?s Painting & Handyman regain the trust U.S. Army
Veteran, YES.
Victor D
In the ad for this service it said he handled minor electrical and plumbing issues. Well, upon arrival he told us he could not install dimmer switches or fix a leaky sink. I think those are minor issues. Also, no ladder to install the vent cover. Luckily we had enough other odd jobs around the house to keep him busy for the day. The work he did was satisfactory, but the fact that the actual "handyman" work we needed done is still undone results in an average "c" grade. Ad was misleading and he would not even give me a quote to paint my front porch at a later date. He apparently doesn't do porches or decks either. Really.
All in all, he was a nice enough guy, and I got a lot of chores done around the house, but we still need a handyman and painter to come out do the repairs and upgrades we wanted to get done with this deal. Was it worth $250 for 8 hours, maybe, maybe not.

"I am sorry for the problems with Don. He could do the electrical however the Stat dept new rules say that a handyman can not do electric or plumbing. We were handed a citation and a $14000.00 fine. And that was for a very small job. Needles to say though we used to do electrical work but no more. Don gets pretty down when he goes to a job and is reminded of it. Small eletrical and plumbing jobs was 70% of our work."

"May 21st 2015 I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all our loyal clients and to the new folks that have been patiently waiting to hear from us. This last month has been disrupted with series of illnesses, accidents and injury. Along with some other issues with the State of Minnesota. Without going into great detail the State is no longer allowing Handymen to perform even light Electrical or plumbing. This has severely interrupted our services to you the customers. Many have wanted those type of projects completed. But we can no longer do. So if you bought one of our coupons with this type of work needed you may ask for a refund. If that does not fall within guide lines of Angie’s List refund policy we will make an arrangement between you and us. Between Don and myself this last month we have been hit with an array of things that kept us behind all of our scheduled jobs and further scheduling new ones. I won’t bore anyone with the details. But we seem to have turned a corner on this stretch of misfortunes and grief. I will be working extremely diligently to catch up on contacting you all and scheduling your projects as soon as possible. My hope is that you still have enough patients to give us a chance to redeem our reputation. Angie’s List a extremely important part of our company and in no way do we want to negatively affect them. And we would like to let you all know that they had nothing to do with this letter. But they have been very helpful in assisting us to get back on our feet. Thank you Angie’s List. And thank all of you our valued customers past present and future. Sincerely, Daryle Don’s Painting and Handyman Service."

A team of two people was supposed to come and paint our small townhouse. First the 2nd person had forgotten to get his pass so he could come--he showed up around 1pm. That doesn't imply professional does it? He spent 3 hours cutting in a bedroom, and it still wasn't adequately done. I'm not sure how that took so long. Supposedly it was due to the color of paint, but I don't think that was the entire problem. Cutting in wasn't even done in the upstairs hallway, the entire area along the ceiling wasn't even touched (and we were painting an off white over burgundy, so it was extremely obvious. There were drips all along the laminate flooring. There was a streak of paint on the bedroom door and another on the gate. Entire areas were missed. We had to hire someone else to fix the painting, and someone else to clean the paint off the laminate. Apparently a few days later Daryle was in the hospital, so maybe there was a health concern, but if that was the case he shouldn't have been attempting to paint. I do have pictures of the issues in question.
The service provider came and put in/replaced three exterior doors. The first door was a new door, so they had to do a frame as well; the service provider refused to put the proper floor work in under the new door, and he pulled out the siding that was in the space and refused to replace it once the door was finished. He said he would do these doors, but he said he had to come back and seal them when it was warmer but didn't want to come back when he said he would. He pulled out the tile and siding for other doors and refused to put them back and said that they weren't his responsibility to put them back, and since he has put these doors in, two of the doors are not where they are supposed to be and the tile is still not done. The work has not been done the way it should have been done, and he refuses to fix it. He just kept saying "it's good enough, it's good enough". Since then the doors keep shifting from where he originally framed them and he refuses to take responsibility. I've called the company and left messages and they refuse to get back to me.

I do not accept this response. Don's painting and handyman service. Accepted this job. A old house has nothing to do with Don doing very poor work. Don should be embarrassed in the quality of his work. If the Job was to hard for Don he should have walked away. But he didn't. He accepted the job. Yes the house is old. that's why we were replacing the doors. I did not hire them to do A Patch job. I hired Don for A complete service. I want this story to be public. So this company doesn't do this kind of thing to anyone else. Don had some SERIOUS MENTAL ISSUES Don was swearing the whole time. Don would kick things in my house when something went wrong. Don stole supplies that I purchased for the job. The last time Don was at my house Don pulled a knife out and threatened my life. I would strongly recommend to never hiring Don's painting and handyman service for any work... The owner of This company is the one who pulled up the tile. Don said himself the tile looks so
bad. That he was embarrassed in Daryl's work. Don said, Daryle did the tile all wrong. And that he used the wrong materials and grout. Don and Daryle did not have any of the correct supplies. For this job. The first time Don was at my house he did not even bring a hammer. My dog is a very well trained back lab. The dog had nothing to do with Daryle Doing poor quality work. My Calling Daryle trying to get a response On crazy Don. was not ruining his business. Don Is ruining his own Business with his poor carpentry skills. Dons bad attitude and his complete disrespectfulness to others property. Over all. Don's Painting and Handyman Services. Is A company Of crooks. Not only were they unprepared for the job. I had it set up with his assistant Daryle for the payment to be on a Visa card. However When it came down to the payment. Don demanded cash only. So there would be no record of the job. So he could keep it off the books for taxes. And hide the money from Daryle. very shady company!!! I hope no one ever gets treated the way I did from Don's Painting and Handyman Service I hope everyone reconsiders before contacting Don's Painting and Handyman Service.
thank you.
