When Rich did the job it went well. The roof was done although I had to make numerous calls to him to get the gutters completed. I guess he contracts that out. About 9 months or so after the roof was done a couple of pieces of the shingles fell off the front of the roof. It took so many calls just to get in touch with him and finally after 2 or 3 months someone came to make the repair. Again another 2 strips of shingles in the front fell of about 4 months ago. I had numerous texts and calls into Rich with no response. About 2 months ago I must have called him from my office phone and I am sure he only picked up the call in error. He of course told me he would take care of the repair and to call him on Monday after the weekend. I have tried so many times for the past 2 months to get in touch with him via phone, text and email. All to no response at all. Bottom line I will go and hire someone else to make the repair. Very disappointing as Rich does good work and the guarantee is 15 years but he avoids you after the initial job is done. You cannot expect to ever get a repair done that is guaranteed. He doesn't live up to his word. If you look at all the reviews you will notice the poor reviews are very similar.

"[Member Name Removed]. I can't disagree with you. I did not get back to you in time. This is not my way. Generally, I try to always make good on my word and warrantee all my work.. that being said, almost never does my work need warranty. Unfortunately, you caught me at a time that divorce took me very low.. Also, my business got hit very hard for different reasons. Ridiculous insurance costs. But in particular. Do you notice I don't advertise on Angie's List any more? This platform did something extremely unethical. I was locked into very expensive monthly advertising with Angie's List, to be visible on first two pages. Starting in 2016, Angie's List started having a pop-up and began diverting my customers away from me. They did this by collecting customer's information and then selling customer's information to other contractors. Because of this, I no longer received phone calls, even though my reputation was almost perfect A. The pop-up was called Lead Feed. You can see some screen shots. Also, the Angie's List mobile app had big location problems and contractors in New Jersey were appearing higher than me in local searches. Angie's List absolutely destroyed me financially because of their unethical Lead Feed that diverted customers from paying advertisers like myself, and by making me disappear from search results by having non functioning location on mobile app. Angie's List also refused to release me from my extremely expensive monthly contract, even though they knew they were destroying me financially."

Things went well initially although pinning him down for the job was somewhat challenging. The actual job took a day longer than expected which was fine. However he didn’t mention that a separate company would replace the gutters. A new leader was recommended by the gutter people and then I had a flood in my basement right where the new leader was placed. I contacted Rich multiple times and he never responded. Now I have to find a someone else to repair a job I already paid for. In addition the gutter company he uses does not clean up nails at all. I have still found nails in my lawn months later which is alarming since I have 3 young children. Finally I was advised against gutter guards however they were loaded with leaves after just a few months. All Rich had to do was follow up. I’m surprised that there are so many positive reviews.
Response from Dormer Doctor
"Sorry. NO. NO. NO. I must respond this way... First.. You don't understand why I have so many good reviews? I have a lot of A reviews because me and my team earned every one!! Did I use a subcontractor for gutters? YES. My business is roofing, so.. Many times I send gutter Guy after we do roof. Problem with sending a professional? We installed gutters/leaders in same configuration you had.. You had water in basement, not because of gutter situation. You had new patio installed by DIFFERENT contractor, and this caused water problems in your basement. Probably incorrect pitch on patio. Did a bunch of nails fall out of old gutters when guys pulled them down? YES. Did I send someone immediately with magnet to clean behind every bush, after I became aware of it? YES. Unfortunately. Your review has nothing to do with quality of my work. I debated for a long time not to write this.. But. You are affecting my reputation. You went out of your way to really make me appear bad.. You said extremely inappropriate things to me when I worked for you. Things you definitely would not have said in front of your husband. I don't like to deal with woman, that has good husband providing for her a nice home, and she make inappropriate comments to me such as what you did. It is your mental illness.. No thanks. You left bad review because I did not respond to your inappropriate behavior.. Not that there was problem with my work... my work was good. I only wrote a response like this one time in my life. I never would write anything like this unless it was true."

Was having the old roof on Mom's house replaced. Overall job went well and contractor cleaned up when done. However in fairness, I think the men could have been more careful during the job. I arrived on the scene on Day 2 to witness men throwing 4x8 sheets of plywood off the roof into a truck below, and occasionally onto the lawn. The truck was filled up and needed to be emptied, so the excess sheets would fall down and bounce out the truck onto the driveway below and sometimes the shrub beds. Some of these shrubs were 50 years old, and took a longtime to shape and grow.. One was smashed, and one tall sprinkler head was knocked crooked. The men didn't seem too responsive to me when I spoke to them, so, I called the owner(who was not on the scene at the time. He arrived the next morning and was able to straighten the sprinkler head, but, the shrub will have to be lived with. Not part of the original job quote.
Response from Dormer Doctor
"Wouldn't hire again?. I am shocked. Your mother was very happy.. I was careful to give her a quality and honest job.. And... How would you propose to remove plywood from your roof?. Have the men carry mail embedded plywood down ladder? A bit dangerous, yes?. How do you think all companies remove plywood? Cut into tiny pieces???. Sprinkler head was ok?. Correct?. I personally verified!!. Bush, well, yes.. It looked like it was 50 years old!!. I don't think anyone else would do more conscientious job for your mom."

We can't say enough about his team's professionalism and detail to work. He was attentive and if we decided to change designs he was patient and accommodating in every aspect of the job. We have recommended him to family and friends. We are planning on hiring him again in the spring of 2018 to add a deck. He is by far, the best contractor we have worked with. We highly recommend him.

I was very happy with the work that Dormer Doctor initially completed and was planning to use them again in the future for vinyl siding. I contacted Rich on 3/11/17 because one of the attic vents that was installed looked like it needed to be fastened better. Rich said he lost a few guys but would get there. I contacted him again on April 5th, April 24th and June 9th, each time Rich said he would stop by. It's now been 5 months and no one has yet to come by. If I had a 24' ladder I would try to do it myself. At this point I have given up. So, if you value a contractor who will stand by their work and follow up on any problems, I do not recommend Dormer Doctor.
Response from Dormer Doctor
"This house had a squirrel problem. That was the original reason I was hired to do the siding work, in addition to the roof. The problem with the gable vent was related to a squirrel trying to pull off the gable vent. This is not a warranty issue but due to a rodent infestation. I have never seen this situation before on a house where was it related to rodents or raccoons. I did fix , free of charge , and I have enclosed the pictures."

Rich was extremely professional and his crew was polite and respectful of my property. They were as neat and tidy as you can be with roof work. The roof looks terrific. I'm extremely happy with the work. I recommend Rich and company with confidence. In retrospect, I'm sorry Rich and I didn't discuss installing new insulation while the roof was open. Insulating while they were roofing would have saved me the additional step of having to do it later. That's the only thing I would have done differently. Nonetheless, the roof looks great and the job was completed quickly and professionally. One other note: Before hiring Rich, I called three roofers for estimates. One roofer sent a "salesperson" to close the deal. Their prices were in range with Rich's prices, but I was skeptical about meeting a "salesperson" rather than the contractor. Another roofer showed up, looked around, told me he was familiar with my house type so he didn't need to measure and said he would get back to me with an estimate. I never heard from him despite the several messages I left at his office. Rich was the third roofer to come by. He measured, he explained the product, he gave me a timeline, and he calculated a price. I'm glad I followed my gut and hired him on the spot. It was a smart decision.

Richard Koska is a professional, courteous, skilled and fair contractor. ROOF: Removed shingles exposed several water-damaged plywood on roof, all plywood damaged on porch, unstable soffits, insufficient porch rafters. When I requested raising center downward slope over family room roof, Rich Koska emphasized adding rafters 3 inches higher would improve but not eliminate slope. Contract clearly stated price per additional plywood, however, total plywood and rafters required is unknown until shingles are removed. The additional work significantly increased final cost, but roof is stable, sustainable and the work was impressive. SKYLIGHT & CEILINGS: Perfect skylight added natural light to room and height dimension to our 8 ft. ceiling. Inside skylight carpentry is perfect and drywall spackling and ceilings are flawless. Looks beautiful! INSULATION: Batt insulation added for proper R-49 value in attic. Richard Koska was very accommodating when I requested additional work. The workers were professional, courteous, attentive, and cleaned up outside and inside every day before leaving. We are very happy with all aspects.

Very professional and punctual. Rich would come every time I texted him and would give me a qoute. We would agree on a price, payment schedule and start date for work. I am very pleased with the work. His crew would come right on time on the day scheduled. They were very professional and clean. They would clean up everyday after they finished the work and always removed the debris or garbage. I would recommend them. I had some bad experiences with contractors so very pleased with the quality of work and professionalism of dormer doctor.

We are very happy with the job that Rich did. Rich Koska is the owner of Dormer Doctor. Rich is a true professional, very responsive, always on time and was a pleasure to work with. Rich delivered on everything he promised and helped us to make decisions by providing different choices on what we could do. We thought Rich's price was very fair compared with other estimates. The job was done quickly and efficiently and the cleanup was good. Rich's integrity and workmanship are beyond reproach. We will definitely use Rich again.

The old roof had 2 layers which was torn off and replaced with GAF shingles. Ice and water shields were installed where needed and copper flashing was placed around the chimney. Deck Armor was used as the underlayment and a ridge vent was also installed. My roof was 1850 sq. feet in area. The crew was efficient and the job took 2 days to complete as I also had a "plastic" roof over my deck replaced which was a separate job from the main roofing job and not part of the $8410 price. The original contract allowed for 5 free plywood sheets to be installed if needed. Unfortunately I needed 36 sheets to be replaced. Each additional sheet cost $60 which changed the cost of the job significantly. When I complained to Rich (the owner) he took off $200 which effectively lowered the cost of each sheet to $53. At Home Depot each sheet costs about $19.45 if not bought in bulk. Of course the labor needed to install the sheet drives up that price dramatically. My personal opinion was the price per sheet still should have been under $50 but on the other hand Rich did not have to lower the price at all. In the end it was a fair compromise. My only real complaint was they neglected to clean the gutters. When I inspected the job after a rain I found over 3 dozen nails, wood splinters, and roof fragments in the gutters. Overall the job was done well but the real test will be if the water and ice shields will stop a leak in my kitchen window area when it snows and the durability of the roof itself. Finally when submitting a review you must answer yes or no to whether you would hire a company again. In this case my answer is really maybe depending on whether the estimate of the project is more competitive.
Response from Dormer Doctor
"Certainly would have cleaned nails, sorry we missed them. Did clean gutters, or there would have been 2000 nails in gutters. One of guys must have been blowing off roof and some got blown into gutters. Entire job was gone over with magnetic sweep. Plywood pricing is on low side of all other contractors. Some companies charge as much as $100 per sheet. $60. allows me to do a good job. I don't loose money at that price, but I was very clear about what profit I make after I pay for materials, rip the old plywood, install new plywood, pay additional dump fees. I would much rather not do any plywood at all, and be working at a different roof, than spending extra time on one roof doing plywood that really doesn't pay very well!! I never look to make the job any bigger than it needs to be, and I always try to limit the extra charges on job."

Rich was very easy to work with. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient, and answered all my questions without any sales pressure. Rich was the only roofer I met with who knew the ins and outs of the GAF Golden Pledge Warranty and whom I felt confident would do the work correctly for the warranty. He gave me solutions to two problem areas which had been leaking and included them in the job. On top of that, his price was very competitive and I didn't need to haggle. The job went very smoothly. I had insisted on being there and Rich ended up doing it on a Saturday to accommodate me. Everything was done as described and the cleanup was excellent as well. There were a couple of minor glitches, generally things that couldn't be controlled (dumpster had a flat tire, gutter work needed to be done a different day). I don't expect to need another roof, but if I did, I would trust these guys to do the work without my being there. All in all, top notch experience.

Rich gave me a competitive estimate to replace my roof (full ripoff), skylights and gutters. He also noted some vinyl siding damage caused by squirrels and agreed to repair it since they also do siding. He was very relaxed and personable and made a good impression so I decided to go with him. I had already talked with another Angie List A+ rated contractor who spent the whole time badmouthing all other roofers. Very obnoxious. Dormer Doctor performed the job over 2 days and it came out terrific. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone.
