Dusty Boot Home Improvement

To share my experience with Jeff Tucker and Dusty Boot, I have the following notes: - After searching Angie’s List for a local handyman with high ratings, I contacted Jeff on XX. After a few text exchanges, we scheduled to meet Mar 10th at my house. Jeff is a very nice guy, personable and appeared to be interested in gathering details on the work required. To that point, I requested he bid on replacing wood under two front windows, 3 spots requiring drywall patches, a 6 panel door installed, and a drop in ceiling in my basement bathroom. His quotes seemed reasonable, and we signed a services agreement for the work to be completed by March 31st. - Jeff requested cash that 1st day, a bit unusual as normally one should pay a contractor after the work is done. I agreed, understanding the funds were to be used for materials to complete the work. I already had material for the drywall patching and pvc for window border, caulking etc. , but I paid him $350 cash, and we both signed the services agreement noting his receipt of the funds. - Jeff arrived on Mar 23rd, and requested additional funds, as he had personal issues requiring cash. I felt bad for him and gave him an additional $300. At that point, he had put the two boards under my windows as requested, services estimated at $175. - Jeff came again on Mar 27th, and began the drywall work, which when completed would be a $125 service fee. Jeff requested additional funds again and noted he would complete the work in the next week. I paid him $280 cash but said no more until the work was completed. At this point I had paid him $930. He had purchased rails for the drop in ceiling and ceiling panels that could not be used in a bathroom, due to the steam/moisture. - Earlier in the day we exchanged text messages regarding the size of the pre-hung door. He bought a 28” instead of the 30” required. - He texted me on 4/4/20, noting he had gotten other work to get funds to pay for my work, although I had already paid him over the amount for work completed and most of the work to be completed. - I texted and left a VM with Jeff on , telling him I was going with another handyman, asking him to drop off the correct pre-hung door, and that I wouldn’t ask for the funds I paid him for work not yet completed. I also asked for the receipts for the material he purchased. - I have had no word, either text or call from Jeff since 4/x/20. - The drywall patches he did needed to be removed and redone, and as it usually takes two “runs” to finish patching, I consider his work not even half completed - It appears he is taking jobs and requesting funds prior to getting work done, perhaps to fund prior projects, something akin to a ponzi scheme. Although Jeff appears professional and understanding, I cannot in good faith recommend him for any work to fellow Angies’s List members.

The job was well performed! Mr. Tucker was patient and communicated well; including educating me on the possibilities as I had a door that was not standard. He provided an outline of the work to be performed and the costs for materials and labor. He stuck to that estimate. The door and screen door look absolutely awesome! I will definitely hire him again!

Excellent. His attitude and his approach to the job. He was thorough. This is the second time I used him. I would recommend him to others.

Jeff came over for an evaluation within a few days and provided an estimate within 2 weeks from the first call. He replaced three rotted wooden exterior panels with 1/4” rot free PVC sheets and added a trim to make them look even better than before. Microwave installation was straightforward. He was conscious about in keeping the kitchen clean.

Jeff gave us a quote over the phone, showed up promptly on the day he agreed to come, and competently and carefully completed the work. He even put new house number stickers onto the mailbox without having to be explicitly asked to do so.

Jeff was on-time, professional, and knowledgeable. He took care of the problem and fixed it right the first time. No return trips. Definitely recommend.

He studied the problem we were having with our leaking roof and was able to figure out how to resolve the problem by building a saddle on the roof with beams, rafters, sheeting and metal roof, something no one else was ever able to fix. We are very, very happy with the results and would highly recommend Jeff for any kind of home improvement work.

His work is very professional and we are quite pleased with the result. He is very knowledgeable about a lot of home improvement jobs and always cleans up at the end of each project.

Jeff was very professional. He contacted me within a short time after leaving him a message. He was very punctual and called when on the way. I even asked him to fix another issue after he arrived. I have used him in the past for other repairs and will continue to use his skills in the future.

Very well -- I had been told by another contractor the gutter segments at the point of repair couldn't be replaced and would need entirely new gutters around the house. Jeff Tucker was able to repair what I had. He was responsive, courteous, and did good work (as near as I can tell -- I'm not a contractor).

It was done quickly and works great. Jeff was able to find the cause of water leaking under the door and replace the seal on the same visit.

He framed it and came out and he left and it rained, and it leaked at the bottom, so I called him, he promised to come back, but until this point, he hasn't shown up at all.
