It went very well. Sean arrived, removed the defective control valve, and installed the new control valve. He checked out the system to insure it was working correctly, which it was and still is. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.

According to the card left attached to my oil burner, my first experience with William Sallee (owner East Coast Mechanical Services) was on May 23, 2015. Everything went great and his company continued to service my oil burner, most times sending Sean who was a pleasure. They also serviced my boyfriend’s burner once or twice as well as the oil burner in my parent’s house. I found them through Angie’s List. The last time Sean came to service my parent’s oil burner (I believe sometime in the first five or six months of 2017) when he started it back up something went wrong and the basement filled with smoke. Obviously, it was now time for a replacement. Not having $4000.00 to $5000.00 to spend on a new system, in November of 2017 I found a used oil burner for sale (I have screenshots of the original advertisement). I verbally contracted with Sean for transportation and installation of this burner system and removal of the old one. We agreed on a price of $1500.00 and I paid Sean a deposit of $1000.00. After paying the seller for the oil burner in full, I gave Sean the seller’s contact information and gave the seller Sean’s contact information so they could arrange for pick before the end of December 2017. It appeared Sean made several attempts to retrieve the burner system from the seller, removing the Riello burner head (and possibly other attachments such as the “Honeywell Aquastat low water cut off valve”, “Taco Circulator” and “Extra Tank” as stated in the original advertisement) only to leave the burner in the seller’s basement along with the stair stepper hand truck oil burner installers use to move the heavy cast iron units. In January of 2018, I had to rent a box truck with a lift and inconvenience others to help remove the burner from the seller’s basement and get it to my parent’s house in Kings Park. Still thinking that Sean would be removing the old burner and installing this one, we used the stair stepper hand truck and left it with the burner locked inside my parent’s garage. Then Sean disappeared. I called and left messages and finally Bill Sallee called me back leaving a nasty message for me about having his stair stepper. After thinking about the message he had just left me, Bill called again. When I answered this time, he apologized and I explained the whole situation (described above) to him and my boyfriend and I made arrangements to meet him at the Kings Park house for him to pick up his stair stepper. When we met with Bill we spoke for the better part of an hour as he described some of what was going on with he and Sean and my boyfriend and I again explained what had been agreed upon with Sean, the deposit Sean received and the balance due. It then became evident to Bill that the Riello head in Sean’s truck belonged to me. At this time it was mutually agreed that we would work something out. In October 2018, when I had the balance of the agreed upon price, I contacted East Coast Mechanical Services and the installation date was set for Tuesday, October 30th. I was told they would be there between 8:AM and 10:AM. Since I do not live there, at that hour in the morning it took me 35 to 45 minutes to arrive on time at 8:AM. It was early to mid afternoon when I received a call to let me know that the company had two trucks not working and they apologized for any inconvenience. I completely understood and we rescheduled for Thursday, November 1st. On Thursday, November 1st I again arrived by 8:AM. At 9:23 AM I received a message from Bill apologizing that the truck needed for the installation was not yet repaired. When I called back at 9:33 AM again, I understood and thanked him for calling me early in the day. We rescheduled for Tuesday, November 6th. At this time I asked Bill to please call me or text me anytime (even if it was in the middle of the night) if for whatever reason the work would not be done as planned on November 6th. I explained that I do not need to sit in a cold house all day waiting for them if they were not going to be there and he agreed to do so. On Tuesday, November 6th I again arrived by 8:AM. No one showed up. No one called. No one returned any messages I left. The first message I left was at 11:50 AM. The second message I left was at 2:54 PM. In this message I explained that I was at their mercy. They had my $1000.00 cash. They had my Riello burner head. I had no money left to purchase another Riello head or pay someone else to do the installation instead of East Coast Mechanical Services. I called again on November 8th at 10:07 AM and spoke with a woman who said she would get back to me in 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes came and went just like the rest of that day and the next business day. The last three calls I made to East Coast Mechanical Services were on: November 12th at 10:59 AM November 13th at 10:26 AM and November 14th at 11:15 AM One of the calls I made was answered by a man who purposely neglected to identify himself. He was extremely nasty towards me yelling something about the message that I left on November 6th. He further yelled that there was no way they could do the work for the amount agreed to, that they would be losing money and proceeded to ask me if I had anything in writing. I answered that I did not. It is my understanding that verbal contracts are legally binding especially when there is a witness to it. At this point in time Sean Sallee, Bill Sallee, East Coast Mechanical Services is/are in possession of $1000.00 of my cash and my Riello burner head (and possibly other attachments such as the “Honeywell Aquastat low water cut off valve”, “Taco Circulator” and “Extra Tank” as stated in the original advertisement). To me this constitutes stolen property. For all I know the Riello head (and possibly other attachments) has/have been sold to someone else since I now know where my cash went. If they were to return/replace my Riello head at this time, I would have no idea if it was the same one that I originally purchased or some other inferior model. This goes for any of the other components as well that may be missing. The need to replace the oil burner may even have been caused by Sean in the first place. He is human like the rest of us and may have been distracted enough (due to issues that were unknown to me at the time) to make a mistake that caused the demise of the oil burner. Let me state, I have never nor do I now hold Sean responsible for what happened to the oil burner. To be led to believe that the whole issue would be resolved, treated worse than a piece of garbage and then ignored does not promote a company that explicitly states “We are a family owned company that cares for each and every customer and take serious pride in our work” and “We are a family business, with pride in our service and response” (This is copied and pasted from a response written to a customer review from Angie’s List [*** Link removed ***] I have literally been “left out in the cold”. It is obvious this company nor any representative of it can no longer be trusted to effectively and amicably resolve this issue, not that they would choose to do so as evidenced by their ignoring and ceasing any and all contact between us.

$12,500
What happened, I had to go back to the bank to cancel the certified check of $8,150 and get a new one with $4,500 which I did. Today, I called with all honesty to the company because I was doing an additional work for dehumidifier and I spoke to the owner, Sean's Father, Bill and I informed him that I am sending the final balance of $4,500. Bill said to me that he will check the email and I informed him that Sean & Brenden gave me a final bill of $4,500 which they confirmed to me 2 times. They will give a receipt with the serial numbers of the unit and breakdown of the labor and parts. When I told him and repeat the final amount, he became irate and started screaming at me. I said I do not bellow and it is between him and his son. I explained that the service Sean did leaving the door of the heating system open cause me more expenditures. They had insurance for this type of problems and they left the door opened, it is Sean's negligence. When they stated the final balance 2 times, I thought they deducted the $3,650 because labor and material was being itemized as less. Let me reiterate that Sean & Brenden confirmed the final amount 2 times and Sean called me and confirmed it was $4,500. I asked Brenden to write it on the bill that the final balance is $4,500 and signed it and I signed it as well. The father, Bill, started screaming and I received 1 phone call on a voicemail from Bill Salee threatening to come back to my house and take the equipment and I had to call the police department to file a police incident report. During the time, the police was here, the owner called and the Suffolk County officer from the 4th Prison Ct told me to pick up the phone. He made up a story that my money order bounced for $1000 due to insufficient funds and that cannot be because I purchased the money order in cash which does not bounce. I was earnest and honest in my transactions. Due to a thug mentality and putting me in fear for my life, my dogs, and disparaging me, I have brought this to the attention of Angie's List and have given a truthful statement. I lost a two year warranty, a service provider, all due to negligence and miscommunication between the owner and his technician, who happens to be his son, Sean. This is their problem to work out, not mine. My final bill states $4500. And the $4500 is in the mail. I would never use East Coast Mechanical Services and this has caused me emotional and psychological damages to be threatened with a thug mentality when I was not only being honest, I was calling to get the estimate promised for the dehumidifier and when it would be installed.
Response from East Coast Mechanical Services
"This story has all of the ingredients of a customer who had no intentions of a fair and honest negotiation of receiving a service for the stated cost. Let’s begin at the beginning: We attempted to service this persons heating unit several times, in which appoints were made that were broken by him. He has 11 dogs, as stated. All of them are kept locked up in his basement, in squalor conditions. There was feces and urine all over the basement. The mechanical rooms do not have doors on them as required by Town of Smithtown building codes. The dogs are locked up in the basement for days at a time, as the owner is not living in the home. [Member Information Removed] Coast Mechanical Services, Inc. cannot be held responsible for the neglect of an animal owner who refuses to provide for the proper care and safety of his animals. When the owner finally agreed to meet us at the property, we discovered the heating units has been damaged by the dogs. We attempted to enter into a fair negotiation with the owner, who became abusive towards us, insisting that the damage was our fault. We decided to agree to replace the equipment at a greatly reduced price, in order to maintain a good relationship and retain a loyal customer. At this time, the owner gave us (8) money orders, each for $1,000, which we accepted, and deposited in our bank account. Several days later, we received a letter from our bank, saying that (1) of the money orders had been returned and our account deducted $1,000. In conclusion, [Member Information Removed] Coast Mechanical Services, Inc., always stands behind our work and our word. Unfortunately, there are always individuals who are experts at gaming the system, and taking advantage of our friendly, accommodating, and caring personnel. Our business policy has always been to satisfy the customer, and build relationships, but again, there are customers who are not trustworthy, and this individual is one of them. William Sallee, President."

The owner, Bob is too injured to get into the attic to check the work done by his team, which is unfortunate. The "team" was a pair of 2 guys perceived to have zero experience or professionalism. They didnt show up half the time, and after waiting all day for them, told us the next day they didnt show because they were missing a part. They had to borrow batteries every day for their flashlights, fell through the ceiling of our bedroom, broke the opening to the attic access, fell into the closet doors underneath the access (breaking the doors) then tried to hide the damage, and more! A 1 week job turned into ..... and, since it was during the winter, Bob told us to call him before we start it up. We called and bob was there for 8 hours, the system wouldn't turn on. I am still having problems but cannot call them any longer. They also bait and switched me in installing a Goodman unit when i paid for a Rheem. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY

The crew was dirty and didn't even have batteries for their flashlights. A 3 day job turned into 3 weeks as they kept rescheduling for "missing parts". Still having problems 6 months later. Do not do business with this company you will be disappointed. Also in rereading the reviews it seems a lot are fake. I booked them because they were A rated. The F is more fitting. Be warned
Response from East Coast Mechanical Services
"I’m sorry you feel this way but I myself (the owner) came and did the install and I’m as clean as they come. As for batteries, I’m very sorry I asked you for that I use the light all day long everyday and if it was an issue I would have just went and bought them. What this customer is failing to inform you is that the issue is 100% NOT with the equipment we installed but with the existing ductwork that is not accessible and a problem they always had even with the previous unit. All our reviews are 100% real and if you know anything about angieslist you would know faking them is impossible. We are a family owned company that cares for each and every customer and take serious pride in our work. Some customers are difficult to please so be warned about reviews that are lacking truth."

Bill and his crew did the install seamlessly. I have used East Coast Mechanical in the past for a new boiler installation as well. They keep their appointments, they stand by their work, they return calls in a timely manner and their workmanship was flawless. They removed the air handler from the attic and installed the new one covering the floor and carpet so as not to get anything dirty. When they finished you didn’t even know they were here except for the temperature change. I would without hesitation recommend ECM for any HVAC work you need done.

First impressions r important and Carly, the receptionist, made a great first impression —helpful, pleasant and accommodating. Took two visits on the same day to get to root of problem, which they did after several hours of work. Will use again. My only suggestion is that the workmen be a bit more attentive to cleaning up after themselves. Excellent service at a fair price.

They were punctual, professional and completely candid about what I was up against. On top of this they saved me some money overall because they offered me an almost new peerless boiler with all new circulator motors, back flow valves and piping. When the new damper failed the night after installation (through manufacturer's defect - not caused by East Coast) they responded immediately. I cannot recommend this family owned company highly enough! Bill, Sean and the whole crew are truly professionals.

William Sallee gave me a very competitive quote for a 4-ton AC high efficiency 16 seer unit. My attic is very small and the two installers had very little working room to put the air handler in, but amazingly they did it and so far the system is working great. They worked very clean, were nice to work with and answered all my questions.

EER as initially discussed did not materialize (nor did state tax credit therefore). This is forgivable. However, unit tends to cut off sporadically and requires much manual intervention to re-start (have to open unit and remove/re-insert a chip on the computer board). Called for a repair last year, was given an appointment and took day off from work waiting for service (they never showed up). Called again this summer and no one even returned phone call. Clearly they do not want to address the continuing problem with the unit. Nice enough people and surprised at lack of responsiveness.

At first I thought he did a good job, then I saw the mess he left behind and had to clean up after him. Three days later the oil burner stopped working , called the company said they would be over that day to fix the problem; waited all day nobody showed up no even a phone call . This was very disappointing was hoping to find a reliable contractor to have a long term business relationship with.

First off let me say I feel this is the reason why a site like Angie's List exists - so you can read an unbiased review from a paying member that is just awesome. My pool heater was delviered after 5pm on a Saturday afternoon and my pool guy informs me that his gas guy will not be able to do the work. What are the odds you are going to get someone to answer the phone let alone show up. Yet Sean did just that. He was on another job and then came to my house at around 7pm from West Islip and I live in Miller Place. I had a party on Sunday for my sons graduation and he took the job not knowing what he would need and said it would get done don't worry. He had to go to 3 different Home Depot's to get the parts he needed and by the time he got back it was after 8:30pm and dark. Armed with a miner light on his helmet he plowed through and got it hooked up and left my house at almost 11pm. If that is not dedication to customer service on a level beyond then I don't know what is. Bravo Sean! Great job!!!

Everything is working. But I gave him a check and he came back and said he could not cash it. So, I asked for the check back and gave him cash. He never sent the check back and I have called twice and still do not have the check. I also had to look up the capacitor on the web for him. So I saw the price was $26. Still he charged me $100. I want my check back or the $35 to cancel with my bank.
