I had both some finished interior carpentry work , and rough exterior repair to rotted wooden chimney siding and wooden railing spindles. Ed did excellent thorough work on both projects. He was honest, puntual and reponsive and I would gladly use him again

We were very pleased with the work done by Eddie and recommend him highly. Eddie gutted and replaced one full bath (upstairs) and one half-bath (downstairs). The quality of the work is excellent. Eddie is responsive to texts and phone calls. His subcontractors were all courteous and professional. Someone came to the house every day (usually Eddie, with one of his subs). This kept the project moving and prevented it from dragging on too long. Eddie and his team left the house clean at the end of each day. His up-front prices were fair and reasonable. When we wanted to make a few changes, he let us know if there was a cost, and we could decide on a case-by-case whether to proceed with the change or not. (For example: We decided to pay extra for a herringbone pattern with floor tile, but we decided not to pay extra for a recessed shelf in the shower.) We are very pleased with the final results.

I would not recommend this guy to even my worst enemy. He questioned every design aspect my husband and I chose and even went as far as making us lay out our tile because he didn't think our patterned tile would look good if there wasn't a border around it. He argued with me about putting white grout on the floor. And he got extremely defensive when my husband was asking why it we went so far over the timeframe it was supposed to be finished. Mind you, we are still waiting on our shower door. He demanded in a text message to me (see picture) we pay him the remainder of the payment or else he wouldn't fulfill his contractual obligations. He also told my husband he is going to take us to court and threatened to put a lien on our house when my husband said we would pay him the remainder once our bathroom is completed to the contract terms. The things that still needed to be completed per the contract when he threatened were the following: -Counter top installed and sink plumbed - Radiator hooked up -Mirror, towel bars and toilet paper holdler - Shower door; although he argues that the shower door is NOT part of the original contract, which is ludicrous The things that were not done per the contract AFTER he received final payment were: - Mirror, towel bars & toilet paper holder - Shower door (again, me arguing that the shower door is part of customer supplied items mentioned in the contract) We never refused to pay this guy, we always paid at the deadlines given per the contract. He just can't handle his customers, who pay a lot of money, asking him questions on why it's taking him so long. His tile work is sub par at best (see pictures). When I pointed that out to him his response was "Well, I waterproofed the shower." Again, another defense when his work was questioned. To add insult to injury, the subcontractors that did our plumbing are apparently not allowed to work on our other bathroom or accept any other job in our house. Be warned, this guy is a hot head with a temperament of a 3 year old.

"False claims. This couple fought each other through every step in the process during the project. In the end the bathroom came out great. At one point the homeowner told the building inspector the shower we had built did not meet code..lol. He asked them what didn't meet the code requirements ? Yes, it passed inspection and this couple was trying every which way not to make their final payment. Looking for any excuse to avoid payment."

WOW, Did we luck out finding Eddie! After being blown off by 3 contractors (family friends etc.) due to the job either being too difficult or too small, I was skeptical hiring someone off Angies list but I had no other choice and was literally in tears due to the other contractors. I am SO thankful I found Eddie - Within minutes of requesting services online, Eddie called me (on a Sunday!) and scheduled to come out to my home on Tuesday for estimate. I hired him and he started work the following Monday - The best decision I've made in my adult life. Eddie's price was excellent, very fair for all the work he did for me - he stayed on budget - no surprises at all and they showed up EVERY DAY at 8:30am - never late, never a no-show and completed the work for me ahead of schedule. You know you can tell when someone is being honest - this is Eddie. He is honest and is not out to get rich off you, He actually enjoys what he does - he had great ideas to overcome some obstacles in my home and always came through for us to ensure I was happy. <br /> You will LOVE his crew too - All of them, the workers, the electrician and the plumber - what great guys, so professional and they bend over backwards for Eddie. Eddie recommended a few floor places and granite places to us and when we called and told them "Eddie Mac referred us" we were treated like gold. He has an OUTSTANDING reputation in his field and treats his workers with great respect, which is why they work so hard for him and that says a lot of the type of person he is in my book. <br /> Eddie and his worker (who is awesome) are completing the finishing touches on my new kitchen tomorrow and I can say I am going to miss them - I want to hire them to do so many more things in my house now that I have a comfort level and know he is an honest contractor. <br /> Thank you Eddie, Ahtimio and Dave for everything - you truly made my dream kitchen a reality for a great price!! - and thank you Angies list for having such a reputable contractor on your site. Eddie was very responsive and professional from the beginning. The quote he gave for the work was completely reasonable unlike others that we had received for the same job. The initial meeting was great, Ed was clear as to what the work would entail. It took a while to actually schedule the job and we weren't clear how long it would actually take but once the job was scheduled, everything went very smoothly. He and his assistant were friendly and professional. The finished work looks great and they did a good job cleaning up after themselves. Ed made some good suggestions regarding paint and primer for the rest of our bathroom, particularly for this damp area. <br />

Edward just set the price for $9,000.00 without giving any breakdown. He said he has no time for that. I provided list of requested work. Quality of work was between OK and average. At the end Ed proposed some improvements without warning me about price increase and force me to pay for rent of equipment he did not have. This raised the price unexpectedly to $10,000.00. <br /> Most scary part of this experience was when Ed threaten me to extort from me final payment from me second time if I will try to force him to fix some small problems left. (By his request I paid cash and I did not ask him for receipt for the last portion of paiment and he send me email asking to make this payment again.) <br /> I did find some small problems on the way and made one mistake doing that which makes him angry. He makes a lot of complains on my character because of that. Finally he did not come back for the last fix and I did not insist on that being afraid that he will use my sloppiness and force me to pay twice for the same job. <br />

"The relationship with this customer has been an especially difficult one, due to the constant changing expectations and requirements. We will agree we did not provide a clear breakdown and itemization of work, it is our mistake, we apologize and will fix this issue in the future. The customer did however come up with his own checklist of items he wanted to address and we worked with the provided list. Within this list, it did not include the additional requirements which caused the price increase and equipment rental. It was also explained to customer verbally that because of the structure of the condo with concrete walls (a situation we rarely encounter) we did not have the necessary equipment at hand to address the sudden change in tasks. This is what created an increase in pricing to include time and material and the rental of equipment. There was no extortion or threatening during our exchanges in email communication. We simply requested $3500 due at signing agreement, $3500 due after walls are closed (which we did get) and remaining $3000 after everything else was completed. When we requested final payment, the customer originally wanted to withhold it and claimed we were extorting him and that he was naïve because he trusted us. Then strange responses continued back and forth where he claimed we were responsible for additional issues around the home we were not involved in, such as asking us to fix a squeaking door we never touched, then a followup email that stated "No need to do that I was just testing. You did not pass. Good bye” Or scratching up his toilet which ended up being toothpaste smeared on. We asked him to stop playing games to which he responded with “Games are integral part of our life, does not matter what age.” This continued back and forth for 1 week to which we asked the customer to stop harassing us or we will take legal action. Overall, we too found this to be a difficult experience."

Front door handleset jammed on Friday morning and we could not get out of house. Had to go out through basement. Worked on it for several hours and finally got open but latch failed completely. No way to keep door closed. Already had new handleset anticipating need to replace. After old hardware removed discovered there had been multiple replacements over the years and there wasn't enough door left to install a new handleset. <br /> Searched everywhere and found a replacement door in stock that "almost" fit our needs. After viewing several videos on how to replace a prehung door in an older home realized it was likely beyond our DIY abilities. Called several companies nobody was available. <br /> When I reached Ed he asked questions about the old and new door to make sure I was getting something that would work. Agreed to install that day or next. <br /> I had to go a ways to pick up the door and didn't have it on site until late afternoon. Ed came out early on Saturday. He doesn't work Saturdays as he has young children. We were in a jam and he went more than the extra mile for us. He and his assistant had to do a lot of creative problem solving to make the door work. Standard doors today are thinner and old door jambs are thicker. The threshold had to be rebuilt to accommodate as well. Six hours later we had a functional door that actually looked surprisingly good even without paint. <br /> It was very very cold and windy that day. There was no way to avoid being out in theweather to do the job. We watched much of the work (from inside) in actual awe as Ed faced one challenge after another with impressive cheerfulness. This turned out to be a very very complicated installation. We could not have done it ourselves in several days. We are so appreciative of both men's skill and work ethic and impressed by their problem solving skills.. <br />

Ed was here on time every morning and his responsiveness is outstanding. My kitchen looks brand new and the two baths look amazing. He pays very close attention to detail and repaired/painted things I hadn't noticed. He and his helper cleaned up very nicely after each day's work and were meticulous about replacing anything they moved. He took the screens down from my porch, stored them and painted the floor. It looks great and not a drop of black paint on the white railings. I would have no reservations about recommending Ed to friends and family.

The primary repair (building a new lamp post that had rotted) appears to have been done well. Only time will tell. I had also asked him to repair a section of a wood gutter. He did not make that repair because he said that a repair was not necessary. I got the feeling that post repair took more time and cost more that he orginally thought, so he did not want to spend time on the gutter repair. <br /> On the question above asking if I would use him again. I answered yes because "maybe" was not a choice. My real answer to that question is "maybe". <br />

"Thank you for taking the time to rate us. The wood gutter was a separate project just to be clear. You asked for a inspection and report of the condition. Upon inspection we noticed the corner seal was leaking and addressed the issue. For us to say you need a new wood gutter would be a scam and we do not operate the business by making up additional work to make more money. We are confused as to why you would say "maybe" to a contractor that is honest."
