I explained that the freezer section of our side by side combination refrigerator freezer was freezing very well, but that despite no adjustments having been made, the temperature in the refrigerator fresh food section had gradually risen over the past 48 hours to currently approximately 50 degrees. I pressed the buttons on the front of the unit to show Willie the actual temp vs the set temp. Willie proceeded to remove the electronic damper unit and pronounced it broken. He did not use any type of electronic testing equipment and only diagnosed the problem based on the temperature readings and that the damper was in the closed position. Willie stated that its being in the closed position indicated that the damper needed to be replaced. He stated that he could order a replacement and return to install it in an unspecified time window, but that he would probably receive it a few days after he ordered it. As I recall, the price he quoted for the new damper was $200. Willie had texted me earlier before arriving that, "...Here at Edward Appliance Repair all my repairs are $150 plus the parts you'll need..." I have never used Angi before, and unfortunately was reminded the hard way that good advertising does not necessarily equate to good service again. With my unfounded and naive confidence in Angi guiding me past my now doubting Edwards Appliance competence, I hesitatingly agreed to Willie's recommendation. He said the charge for his initial service call / that day was $65, and I paid him $65 with a check. I frankly didn't even notice that he had taken our old damper with him until after he had left our home. I suspected he had taken it to help him to be sure to order the correct part. Every of the many YouTube videos I consulted indicated there was no way anyone could accurately diagnose our problem with such a minor inspection and especially without using an electronic testing meter to test to make sure the damper was not working. Additionally, every one of the videos explained that more than half a dozen common problems could cause the exact same presentation, and all would have to be tested and ruled out or confirmed. Per one of the YouTube videos, I removed a panel inside the freezer and noticed frozen coils, which according to every YouTuber I learned from, indicates problems OTHER than the damper, and NOT the damper. Additionally, every one of them stated that the position of the damper when it stopped functioning (open or closed) was not a valid or reliable indicator of whether the damper is good or bad. Willie agreed to not order anything and to instead return our damper and screws to attach it. More than two weeks ago Will stated it sounded to him like I did not have confidence in his abilities and that he would return my part. He has offered excuse after excuse for not returning our damper. He initially said he was ill, and then still ill and then had just returned to work and trying to catch up and then return our part(s) the next day. He said it more than once and has yet to return our part(s.) The last I heard from Edwards Appliance Repair Willie was Tuesday, May 14, when he said, "Hey sorry about that... I'll be there for 9:30 AM tomorrow" Willie did not show up and has not responded to my four messages since. The part, which I believe was still functioning when he removed it, will cost us more than $209 to replace it. In essence, Edwards Appliance Repair charged us $65 and stole a $209 still functioning part.

Great! Willie was quickly able to diagnose the problem, ordered a part, and installed to new part. My washing machine is now working.
