Jay was always prompt with his service and very courteous. His prices were very competitive and the work was done quickly and cleanly. Also, he followed up with us the next day to make sure we were happy and gave us some pointers on maintaining the new driveway.

Jay was very professional in how he approached the job. He always did what he said he would do. If he called and said he would be here at three he was. His crew of two was remarkable. They knew what needed to be done and they did it. They always had the proper tools and heavy equipment. The whole job from beginning to end was extremely well choreographed and executed. They did a great job of cleaning up when they were done. The new garage floor is perfect. I look forward to working with Jay on my next project.

It was fabulous! From the beginning, Jay came out, gave me an estimate, followed up and then offered a great discount if we used his company. Jay answered all of my questions promptly and completely. Additionally, Jay found some old water damage which required additional work. He didn’t charge me any more for fixing the problem. I will definitely use him again!

The crew arrived promptly on the scheduled date. Old concrete was removed as was a layer of underlying clay. A recycled concrete base was spread and compacted. I believe that when properly compacted recycled concrete is superior to other bases. Welded wire was installed and raised as concrete was poured. I prefer this to re-bar; particularly given Colorado environment and soil. The concrete used was as good or better than any I've seen. The installation crew did a superior job. The driveway and pad are showpieces. Finally, the crew did a noteworthy job in cleaning up the site. Having poured a good deal of concrete some fifty years ago, I believe I am qualified to identify first-rate material and workmanship. EnviroShapes demonstrated both throughout the course of this project.

This experience was a nightmare. Work was done in Boulder, Colorado in summer of 2017. Contractor was Jay Allman, owner of EnviroShapes Concrete. He is a slick talker, said all the right things when we first spoke with him but did not follow through, instead took shortcuts. Trusting him was the biggest mistake we ever made. Problems we had: • The slope is incorrect so water pools inside in multiple places on the driveway and garage floor. • Driveway and garage floor are spalling already. Consistency of concrete poured for garage floor and driveway is substandard due to excessive hardening prior to the pour. This was caused by delays in not having the site prepared properly before the concrete truck arrived. This was absurdly bad by the time they reached the end of the driveway. They tried to use the hardened concrete anyway, smooth it over and pass it off as right. We insisted the last two panels be removed and replaced, but we should have had the entire driveway and garage replaced. Feel free to walk up our driveway and you will see concrete already breaking away (called spalling) near the garage door. • Contractor insisted it was not necessary to call Miss Utility. Then when driveway was removed, a cable was uncovered. Instead of protecting the cable, they proceeded to run over it repeatedly while working, until it was shredded. • Contractor did not dig out and remove soil under driveway as he said he would. • Contractor did not cover dirt in driveway with filler rock. When questioned, he said it wasn’t necessary though when being hired he said it was critical. • Contractor did not tamp down the dirt properly. • Contractor did not dig deep enough trenches for pvc pipes. Fixed on our insistence, but delayed the pour time. • Contractor used wire mesh for reinforcement instead of rebar. Left gaps in the wire mesh reinforcement because they ran out of material. Fixed on our insistence. They never used lifters to lift the mesh off the ground so it would sit at the right height in the concrete. • Contractor did not use laser level though he said he would. When questioned, he insisted string was better. • Contractor did not lay a wood on both sides of driveway. This made a messy edge on the east side. Though contractor said he would use molds, no molds were laid until we insisted and then only on one side. This resulted in one side of the driveway having a straight edge and the other side having an unattractive uneven edge as cement spread out against the landscaping rocks. We insisted it later be cut with a saw to improve it. • Collateral damage to house caused by excessive force in breaking up concrete garage floor which was attached to foyer concrete floor. Used a mini front end loaded instead of a jack hammer. Caused damage to house, existing settlement cracks to widen and caused new settlement cracks. • Contractor had promised to use rebar to stabilize garage floor with foyer concrete floor but still had not drilled the holes when cement trucks arrived. Kept saying it would be done, but turns out they did not have the drill with them. Severe delays ensued trying to get hold of Jay. They finally rented a drill and drilled the holes. Concrete was then past use for garage floor and driveway, but they used anyway. • The concrete mix he used is suspect, seemed to have way too many rocks. • Concrete splattered on garage walls and landscaping rocks. • Power washing prior to sealing started the spalling in garage. General recommendations for dealing with any concrete contractor: • Always call 811 Miss Utility to identify underground cables even if your contractor says it is not necessary. There was a phone company cable laying on the dirt under the driveway, it was not buried and was destroyed. To avoid delaying the job, a pvc pipe was laid to save room for the cable when it is repaired. • Make sure you understand the best practices of concrete pouring for driveways before talking to contractors. Do not depend on your contractor. Write everything down and make sure your contract states exactly how the work will be done and the materials to be used. • Things to understand and have in your contract include preparation of the ground, including removal of existing dirt, placement and type of filler material, tamping of filler material, and leveling, drainage, use of expansion joints, the formulation of the concrete, the thickness of the poured concrete, reinforcement, and moldings for the sides. Discuss these things with multiple contractors to understand what they plan to do; write it all down and make sure it is in the contract. • If you add any additional pipes or water lines under the driveway, ensure a trench is dug deep enough to be well buried beneath the filler material. • Understand who will be doing the actual work, who amongst the crew is the supervisor and the supervisor will be present at all times, and who speaks English. • Supervise the job yourself. Regardless of what the contractor says they will do, you will only know what was done and how well if you are there watching each step. • Don’t let the concrete pour be scheduled too close to the preparation because you need time to inspect the preparation and fix any problems. • Once concrete arrives it has a very limited amount of time to be used, then its quality diminishes very quickly. This means it is critical there are not delays once concrete arrives due to unfinished preparations. • Talk to your contractor about protecting your yard and landscaping, including rocks lining your driveway. • Before contractor work check with Boulder’s City Planning Dept for best practices. • Verify licensing. • Just because a contractor gets a good review on Angie’s List, doesn’t mean they are good. Many people just come home and see a smooth concrete surface and have no idea what is underneath.

"We were recommended to this person by their HOA because of all the great work we have done for them and over a dozen homeowners in this neighborhood. We have never had a single complaint from any of the work we've done for any of the people in this neighborhood and we are the contractor of choice for this and for many other HOA's and Property Mgmt Companies. Not one word in this person's statement is accurate and in my opinion this is nothing more than an attempt to hurt our company. Bottom line is these people moved out here from back east and the home they purchased long distance is a nightmare. There are so many major problems with this home from the foundation up they are to many to list. The inside floor of this home is a floating concrete slab/floor that has sank and failed and just like the garage floor slab we replaced, there are up to 2' deep voids underneath the concrete. When we removed the garage floor slab we could literally see these huge voids under the home and the concrete floor. We actually did a ton of extra work for these people at no additional charge to try and help them by moving tons of substrate material in underneath their homes concrete floor and we also drilled in quite a few steel dowels for additional support. We were not hired to address these problems, but we did everything we could to help and of course there is no mention of any of this by the homeowner in their review. The work we did was perfect and beautiful and was even featured with photos on a website page. We made 9 additional visits after this job was completed and spent 37 extra man hours trying to make these people happy by doing things we would never do on any other job from moving rocks and boulders to bringing in top soil for their yard to sealing every square inch of the concrete we poured with commercial concrete sealers to replacing concrete that had nothing wrong with it and we were not paid for any of it. Every time I went over there to settle up they would come up with something totally different and off the wall for a reason they were not going to pay us and they would give me a [Member Information Removed] laundry list of the ridiculous things they wanted done. Since 1985 I have never dealt with anyone like this or had as much difficulty dealing with a customer and I've never tried harder or done more to try and make someone happy. What's really a shame is that someone can get on the internet and write whatever they want unchecked to harm someone and take food off their table and not even bat an eye doing it. If you are concerned about this one review I would be happy to email you photos of the job and you can decide for yourself."

Extremely well! Enviroshapes worked with us on making sure our clients had access to the building at all times so as not to disrupt our businesses. They were on time every day and worked hard until the job was finished. The project was completed on time and Jay came back three weeks later to help install a new bike rack for us. He kept his word on this even though we had already paid him for the job.

This project went very well from start to finish. The crew showed up when they said they would and did a great job. I tend to ask a lot of questions and want to make sure I was not missing anything throughout the day since I was not present during the construction of it, and they did not mind all the questions about making sure it was at the proper depth and taking pictures throughout and sending them to me while I was at work. I would definitely hire again. My only concerns would have been the removal of sod near the new driveway could have been put back in place better and one of their machines (not sure if truck or bobcat) leaked oil in front of property, but was in street. This would not stop me from using them again. This was about a year ago and work still looks great.

Jay did a great job on our projects which were a large concrete patio, a large concrete platform for a garden shed, and a small platform for garbage cans. He had good suggestions about handling the slope of our back and side yards. He and his crew were always punctual in showing up. The crew worked hard and did a great job. After we get our garden shed set up, we want them back to put in a concrete walkway from the driveway, through the gate, and to the backyard. I would highly recommend using them. We thought their prices were very reasonable.

The owner communicated promptly to my request for a bid and he talked up his company's service. He presented himself & his company as knowledgeable and experienced.AND he gets GREAT reviews on Angie'sList (the reason we chose his company!) But his crew did not deliver the results he promised. After the tear-out of the old concrete, my husband and I spoke to the owner at length the night before the concrete was poured to alert him to an important drainage system we wanted left in tact. We got home the next evening to find the drainage system no where in sight! The crew had buried it under the concrete! We called him to demand that his crew find the drainage line and re-expose it, which they did, but not with out destroying our rock garden (which the owner was explicitly told @ the outset of the job we wanted left intact). Then we inspected the garage. One of the workers left a piece of equipment in the wet concrete, leaving an indented area where water could pool if left unattended. After I alerted the owner to this flaw, he had the crew put some patching material in the indent saying the color would eventually dry the same color as the concrete. It's now 30 days later & the patch is still a different color! Finally, we learned from a neighbor who watched the work being done (we were unable to be home during the job to watch the crew. Didn't think we had to since the owner touted his great reputation so we trusted his craftsmanship) that the crew ran out of concrete on the last quadrant of our driveway. My neighbor said they were tamping and tamping what material they had left to make sure the slab was secure. Now, 30 days later we have a piece of that quadrant that is chipping off and breaking. II just noticed that the owner posts some great pictures of other jobs he's done both before and after our job. (May-end and June 12th forward) But none of our job, which occurred June 5th - 9th. Probably because it was poorly done! The crew left our street and our yard smattered with concrete and their lunch trash. We followed the instructions of not parking or placing anything on the finished area for longer than he recommended. (They finished on Friday, said not to park on it until Monday. We waited until the following Friday). I have saved for more than 10 years to do this job and now every time I see the error they made I am reminded of the poor attention to detail we were given. The owner will refute this review but I am glad to show anyone his work if they want an in -person look. I am attaching pictures of the original quadrant that was poured & the chip that emerged last weekend. Also attached is a pic of the garage cover up for the indent. The results speak for themselves. We are very disappointed!

"I'm sorry you are not happy, but you haven't contacted me once and you left out a few things. 1. I offered to do an $800.00 epoxy garage floor coating free of charge to cover the small mark. 2. We never, ever run drain pipes all the way down to where water runs and gushes out directly on the sidewalk, but we went ahead and did it the way you wanted and the drain pipe ended buried in the rock garden, it did not end under any concrete. 3. It is not uncommon to run out of concrete on a job, it happens all the time and the remainder of the concrete was delivered immediately. The reason we were short was because we poured most of the driveway at 5" to 6" thick instead of the contracted 4" because of the sinking that had occurred over the years from leaking sprinkler lines under the old driveway and we did not charge anything for the additional concrete. 4. Underneath the old driveway it was a muddy swamp from existing leaking sprinkler lines running under the old driveway which we replaced and we had to bring in an extra 2 tons of water absorbent substrate material because of all the water that had been leaking. We also completely replaced over 20 feet of a buried down spout pipe. None of this was in the contract, but we did it so there wouldn't be problems in the future and all we charged the customer for was the cost of the new sprinkler line and parts and the cost of the new drain pipe. We did not charge for the 2 tons of water absorbent substrate material or the additional 1 and a half yards of concrete. The thing that I don't understand is I've heard nothing from this customer, they haven't contacted us once since we finished this job. All they have to do is contact us and if there is anything we can do to make them happier we will do it just like we always do and always have done. If they are not happy about something or if they don't understand something, contact us first and at least give us a chance to try and help them. I personally go out of my way (within reason) to make sure our customers are happy, but I cannot do that if they don't talk to me. Simply going on the internet and doing a bad review on a company is not the way to resolve an issue."

So far the patio is looking good. Jay was good at answering questions and contacting during the bid process. However I would stay away. Unfortunately I paid the whole amount prior to clean-up being complete, and there are multiple areas of damage to my yard and the adjoining pathway. I have contacted Jay multiple times and "he will come by and look at it" for the last several months. Damage includes cracked concrete edging, ruts in yard, etc. I will definitely update this review if/once this is resolved, but I would make sure for now to not hire Enviroshapes for any work.

"We built one of the most incredible, beautiful patios we have ever built for this customer. This was also one of the most difficult jobs we have done in years. The job site was in a back yard on a large property and the closest the concrete truck could get was over 100 feet from the pour. We had to demo and haul away an existing elevated concrete patio and a set of approx 13 steps going down into the lower yard and we expanded the size of the new patio. It blows me away how someone can expect in their mind that to do a major construction project like this there is not going to be any collateral damage. We spent a week on this job in all types of weather during the late winter. We had to hand chisel, drill and hammer concrete away from an outdoor BBQ and kitchen. We have actually featured this job on social media because in my opinion it was a major accomplishment and again, it is absolutely awesome. Notice the customer did not say anything about the actual concrete work itself that we did. We have gone back over to this persons property on several occasions, we replaced a vinyl fence post and we re-graded a very low quality service road that was literally poured with some sort of a breeze material with zero road base material under it. We spent over $800.00 just on plywood to lay down in the back yard where we came in and out with a skid steer and mostly wheel barrels, but it did still leave very minor impressions in the grass. This is by no means anything major and it is a very easy fix with just a little bit of top soil. It literally did not even destroy the grass, it just made some very shallow impressions in the lawn which I have already told this customer IN WRITING that we will be more than happy to bring some top soil over and do this for him. Here in Colorado we had record amounts of moisture with both rain and snow in the month of May or we would have already had this done. Since we finished this job the customer keeps coming up with more things that he says we did and wants fixed, he says that we broke some old concrete curbing along one edge of this breeze service path (that's not on his property) with the concrete truck, but we used a 120' concrete line pump which cost us over $900.00 and the concrete truck did not come within 50 feet of where he claims this damage is. Bottom line: I wish I could attach photos of this job on here, but if you go on our facebook page you will see this job. We will have top soil and grass seed in place in the shallow impressions we left in his yard sometime this month. End of story."

This job went incredibly well - better than we expected. Romero, who did most of the work by himself, was outstanding. They started work quickly, and once it was underway they worked every week day until the work was completed. Overall, removing the old concrete, grading, placing forms and rebar, and pouring the new concrete took about a week. The work is so good that so far that my next door neighbor had his driveway done by Enviroshapes as well. Also, I have been asked for Enviroshapres contact info by 2 other homeowners in my neighborhood. Everyone is impressed with how good the new concrete looks. This was not the lowest price bid we got, but the quality of the work done made the extra cost well worth it.

Owner Jay Allen communicated in a clear, concise manner before, during and after the job, both with me as an out of state owner and with my tenants, so that they knew exactly what to expect, how long the job would take and what restrictions they would face as the work was done. He sent before and after email photos and also very specific phone communication with me as the owner. As a real estate salesperson, property manager, and property owner of 40 years, I keep a list of reliable, competent tradespeople and continue to use them and refer them to others with local property, and real estate sales and property management needs. I have added Enviro Shapes Concrete to my list of reliable, competent tradespeople and will not hesitate to use them again as needed and refer them to other local real estate salespeople and property owners.

Great job, this was a somewhat complicated project. I had two contractors, one to demo, design and rebuild the basement and EnviroShapes to tear out and replace the concrete. So there was a lot of coordination needed between them including redoing some underground plumbing. In addition I had to access the site through the back of my neighbors property which required careful use and care. The finished floor is great, so nice to have after dealing with years of heaving and broken concrete that was originally there. The new one has rebar at two foot spacing with 3,000 psi concrete. It should be bomb proof.

The company came out approximately one month later and replaced driveway, but not the porch. When I called about the porch I was told the foreman didn't think it needed to be done. I took pictures of the porch which had sunken causing me to put a concrete block to use as a step into my house. When I complained that it had been paid for and it needed to be done because I was selling my house, I was told it was there busy season and they would contact me in a few weeks. My phone calls were never returned, but communicated by text. I was told it would be done by "next week" a couple of times. I was told their foreman would contact me. I advised them I was being forced to take them to Small Claims Court and heard nothing from them. It is October 29th and I have heard nothing from them, despite paying them. I appreciated the work that was done, but they lie and do not follow through on their contract or commitments.

"FIRST OF ALL WE FINISHED THE PORCH FOR THIS CUSTOMER AT THE END OF OCTOBER. He also told me that he would update this review to reflect this and he did not do it. We deducted the porch off of his original bill and told him we would collect for the porch when we could get back over there and replace it. We were hired to replace a driveway and a very small front porch. We replaced the driveway right away, ahead of schedule and this customer raved about the great job we did. We could not replace the porch at the same time we replaced the driveway because it turned out that what we thought was only 4" to maybe 6" thick was 16" thick. We had no idea it was this thick because it was hidden underground and no one told us. I explained to the customer that it was going to take us 3 to 4 times longer to do the porch because of this surprise and we needed to rent some special tools and we would have to come back to do the porch at a later date (which of course we did). Even though we deducted the porch from the original bill, this customer added it back on and paid it anyway because he wanted to make sure that we would be back to do the porch. He also of course knew that we were charging him about 1/3rd what we should have charged him to replace this porch. I told him we would have it replaced as soon as we could and that it would for sure be replaced before winter and it was. As always, we did a great job and gave this customer a beautiful new driveway and front porch/landing and even though we had mis-bid the porch and we could have per our contract charged more for the hidden, underground concrete, we only charged him the original amount even though it was 3 times more work and almost 4 times more concrete. Turns out the real problem here was this customer listed his home for sell after we were first there doing the driveway and he was incredibly impatient wanting us to replace the porch to help sell the home. BOTTOM LINE: EnviroShapes did everything we were contracted to do and then some, we did not charge the customer a single extra dollar for all the extra work and materials and his new concrete was done as well as anyone on the planet would have or could have done it for him. Then he goes online and drops this review on us. Also, I spoke with this customer about this review and he told me that he would change it and update it to show that all of the work had been finished and when, but of course he did not do that."
