Ethan's Eden provides innovative landscape design and distinctive stonework as well as lawn and grounds maintenance. Every garden designed utilizes a complimentary color palette and a well thought out array of shapes and textures. A unique combination of plants, stone, and color create landscapes personalized to each client's needs. Special consideration is always given to provide environmentally responsible landscapes in addition to reasonable maintenance demands. Ethan, who studied horticulture, turf management and business management, holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Nikki holds a BA in Chemistry and Biology from Mount Holyoke College and a Masters of Science in Business and Computer Information Systems from Western New England College. Nikki also holds a diploma in Landscape Design from the Institute of Garden Design and is a member of the Association of the Professional Landscape Designers. We strive to cater to our clients by providing what is required to fulfill their expectations of our services. Once the job is done, we spend as much time as needed with our clients to educate them about their new landscapes. We also offer a five year guarantee on all stonework and a one year guarantee on all new plants which is something most nurseries don’t even offer. In addition, we buy all plant materials in the Pioneer Valley. Buying local is so important to keep our local economy and small businesses thriving. In addition, Ethan's Eden is a full service landscaping company. This means we offer all maintenance services ranging from lawn mowing to pruning to mulching to organic lawn fertilization and lawn restoration. Quality is at the heart of everything we do. Both on a design level and a customer service level. We have a 5 year warranty we offer clients on stonework. Ease of maintenance is always taken into account with every design. The last thing we want is to create a maintenance nightmare for our clients. Each landscape is designed to create as low maintenance as possible for our clients. Attention is paid to xeriscaping to minimize water use.

We have used Ethan's Eden over the past six years since moving to Amherst for everything in our large yard, including: initial and ongoing landscape design, installment of several beds, fertilizing, mowing, over seeding, spring/fall cleanups, and referral to other professional when needed (ie late tree work). They are EXCELLENT all the way around! Year round they keep our yard beautiful and healthy and sustainable - wonderful that they used all organic products. We love that Ethan is so knowledgable, personable, flexible, available, and overdelivers on what he promises. All the employees are kind, helpful, & professional, and the work is always done onetime, cleanup is great, and scheduling is flexible, if needed (provided last minute landscape beautifying before large event in past). I give my HIGHEST recommendation to Ethan's Eden for all your landscaping needs - from a regular mow to full landscape design/install!

Not only did Ethan and his team solve our drainage/flooding problem, they made our backyard look BEAUTIFUL! Ethan met with me several times leading up to this work and was always thoughtful and generous with his time. He and his team (two other guys worked on the project with him) are enormously courteous, friendly, and professional and respectful of one another (nice collegiality). As our neighbors were allowing us to use their driveway for access to their backyard, it was important that their space be well cared-for. They were totally conscientious and cleaned their driveway at the end of every day; the workspace was always tidy. They completed this job, even with the intense heat, in less than a week. Ethan really has a gift for working with the natural attributes of a space to make it more beautiful and cohesive. He is very knowledgeable about plants, habitats, and plant care. I didn’t imagine our backyard would look so beautiful and feel so inviting. It was neat to see the guys get excited about things, too. For example, they had to jackhammer through a 14 inch slab of stone to install the French drain and Ethan found that it was beautiful Holyoke mountain range red stone. They used pieces of the stone to make a rock feature that we love. I will absolutely work with Ethan’s Eden again for future landscaping work.

We have worked with Ethan on several projects. He installed new trees and shrubs along the front of our house a couple years ago and along the side this past year. He trims the shrubs for us each spring and winterizes each fall; he also does our lawn care. He is thoughtful in his planning and his work is beautiful - we couldn't be happier with the results. Ethan is reliable, responsive, and follows up on his work. His prices were a little higher than other companies, but the quality of his work and service are well worth it. We highly recommend Ethan for anyone's landscaping needs!

Did a great job on small landscape project on edge of lawn. Came when they were supposed to , work was well done, professional, and looks great. Also took our lawn which was in total disrepair, and turned it from a disaster into a new lawn by aerating, slice seeding and using a correct seed for our area, which was the reason the lawn failed in the first place. He also followed up with directions on how to handle the new lawn. Very easy to work with, and we are planning on using him to maintain our lawn.

Ethan has a great artistic eye combined with knowledge of landscaping materials. Our new landscaping perfectly complements the new deck with shrubs, new grass, a dogwood tree, and pachysandra. Ethan also built a lattice screen for my A/C unit with honeysuckle which I would never think of. In between major jobs, Ethan and crew mulch, prune, clean up, and winterize. The 6 year old landscaping in front continues to thrive. Ethan and crew are consistently personable, hard working, and friendly.

As always, they were great to work with. Ethan has a creative eye and the bed is lovely and will fill in nicely as the plants grow. He also spontaneously created a wonderful cairn-like rock structure to cover a tree stump and used the moss from the stump to add to the rocks that they dug up while pulling out . It speaks of peace and beauty. As for cost, I rated the company good as I have always used it for landscaping on this property and have no comparison as to cost.

From our first consultation to the finished project, working with Ethan was a wonderful experience. He listened to my ideas and suggested a number of creative ones of his own. Working in several small spaces, Ethan created a beautiful outdoor sanctuary for me out of what had frankly been an embarrassment when I first moved in. Visitors who saw the space before and after were amazed at the transformation. The result's of Ethan's work were in every respect better than I had imagined. His work lives up to the name Ethan's Eden. I will continue to work with Ethan for annual improvements, and I highly recommend him.

Ethan did an excellent job of designing and executing my Goshen-stone walkways and patio, and pebble-stone patio. I was very pleased with the work that he did on my property, transforming ugly spaces (concrete and overgrown grass) into beautiful and relaxing ones. For examples, he transformed a disused and unappealing upper patio into a Goshen-stone, lakefront retreat. In addition, he came up with a creative solution to transform a dilapidated lower concrete patio into a pebble-stone patio with beautiful granite-stone edging and blue-stone steppers; this solution also saved me from the expense of having to tear out the concrete. My neighbors and visitors have all given compliments on the beautiful stonework. I rate Ethan's Eden an A, including the pricing. His work is well worth the price because he does QUALITY work (design, execution, and customer service). Plus, he is a really pleasant person who understands his clients.

AMAZING! Ethan's creativity and vision brought a eye sore to a beautiful focal point! He understood our financial constraints, and worked well within them, giving us more them we would have ever expected! His team was fantastic - professional and down to earth, willing to work around our very large dogs. The experience from start to finish has far exceeded our expectations! Ethan does a great job; we're very happy with the patio. He replaced one plant that failed in the first season. The pathway looks good; it was a little slippery for me, so he did some troubleshooting, and found some rocks that might help make it more secure. He was thoughtful about how to plan the garden in order to have color through most of 3 seasons; and was willing to break down his estimates so that I could select which ones I could afford to move forward on. (I'm leaving the cost blank because I had several different things done at different prices.) Reaching Ethan by phone is not always easy. His crew is friendly, shows up on time and doesn't leave anything unfinished. He is pricey, but does quality work. <br />

Ethan drew up a design of shrubs and plants that was interesting, shade tolerant and included river stones arranged to give the feeling of a river bed. He showed up on time and he and his crew were very respectful of our property during the installation. Ethan spent a lot of time advising me on how to care for everything before he left and has been available to answer questions more than a year later. <br /> Ethan guarantees his plants for a year after planting and made good on that for a couple of shrubs that did not survive the winter. <br /> Starting with some serious limitations, Ethan was able to create a beautiful space that gives us much enjoyment and is easy for us to maintain. <br />

We were very happy with the work provided by Ethan's Eden. The workers were experienced, friendly, interested in the work they were doing, and dedicated to doing that work well. Ethan himself was always on site while work was being done. He was consistently approachable, and managed the work efficiently, bringing the job to completion in a very reasonable amount of time. Ethan was interested in and accepting of our ideas, and modified and expanded those ideas based on his own expertise in ways that made the final result better than what we had envisioned. The garden installed by Ethan's Eden has been easy to maintain, and has continued to grow more beautiful as the months have passed. Administrative aspects of the work such as estimates, invoices, questions about payment, etc., were handled in an efficient, straightforward manner. We were thrilled with the excellent work done with everything we asked for. Ethan selected and recommended the shrubs and perennials for the rock garden, and they are wonderful choices. The rock garden is nicer than I ever imagined. The weeding and pruning around the property were very professionally done. I was very impressed with Ethan and Nikki's professionalism and prompt communication during the process, which means a lot to me. Also impressive was that they did the work when promised, and cleaned up thoroughly the same day. Ethan encouraged me to contact him with any questions or concerns and has a one-year guarantee on the new plantings. We had Ethan and his crew come in to complete the landscape around our in ground pool. My wife and I had worked on this area for a couple of years, but we wanted someone to come in and complete our vision. We selected Ethan based on Angie's List reviews and photo examples of his prior work as shown on his website. Ethan is very knowledgeable about his craft and what would fit our needs the best. He was attentive to what we were interested in accomplishing and was able to add creative ideas and suggestions. This is exactly what we wanted, we weren't looking for a "yes" man contractor. We needed professional help and ideas and Ethan fit the bill. The work he and his crew did was exceptional, and we couldn't be happier. They were timely, professional and very careful working around the worksite (including the pool and equipment areas) and picked up at the end of each day. You could tell the passion he has about his work and he made us feel that our project was "his" project. In addition, Ethan spent time walking around the site at the completion of the job, educating me on watering schedules, expectations and follow-up. That extra effort is not always shown by contractors I've had experience with. To close, he would be the first person I call for similar work down the road. <br />

Ethan was very professional, did what we wanted, provided advice about various things for our lawn. In addition to providing treatment for problem-areas of our lawn and doing aeration, and after obtaining a soil test from UMass as he recommended, Ethan gave us a schedule of organic fertilizers and insect treatment that works best for our lawn. When we send inquiries about various things, he and Nikki are very responsive to us--giving us that advice via email or phone, without additional charge, about how we should proceed. After being lost in the sea of lawn products available out there, we feel like we have good guidance about how to fertilize, water, seed, etc. It is great to have the expertise of professionals on whom we can call. I would recommend Ethan's Eden to any who has issues with his/her lawn. <br />
