Express handyman scheduled a visit to see the area and take some measurements. Then, he asked for $24.99 to cover the cost of the estimate that he will provide. He cashed the check but never provided the estimate. I called the office three times complaining about it and they promised me to provide me with the money back but no luck! I normally don't like to give bad comments about any business but this business took my money and did not provide me with anything in return. It has been about 6 months now and still no response from "Express" handyman.

I had a leak and was unable to determine the source of the leak. I requested someone come out and install a leak diverter while I investigated. Express came out and assesses the situation and suggested it was most likely coming from the windows. He took some pictures and called back with a price. I though the price was high, but I was in a pinch, so I said OK. He came back on the scheduled day, removed the old caulk, put down new caulk, an no more leak! I have since spoken with some friends and have been informed the price was fair, I am frugal. Overall they did an excellant job and very responsive.
Estimate was given based on labor hours of $75 per hour. Work was completed within 2 weeks of giving OK to proceed.
I really don't remember the price as it was so long ago, but I remember feeling it was reasonable. I was happy with the finished work. My complaints are small: he used my stepstool instead of providing his own and got drywall mud on it, and he asked for my husband's assistance on occasion.
It went well. He was very quick with the assembling. Upon entering he even asked if he should remove his shoes or cover them up. After he was finished he cleaned up and asked where to discard the boxes and all the wraps. I forget his name but we do have his card at home and would call them again if something is needed.
Overall, they did a good job at a reasonable price. I would consider using them again. For the chandelier install, I had to inform them that 14ft a-frame ladders are available for rent at local hardware/home stores. Before I suggested they do that, they were going to use scaffolding which was going to cost more. It struck me as odd that they wouldn't have figured out the ladder idea on their own. Also, they charge a fee for coming out and giving an estimate. I'm not sure if that is common practice but it caught me by surprise. I prefer not having to pay for an estimate. Overall though, a good experience working with them.
Arrived 20 minutes late without any materials. After I signed the contract for $72.00 an hour Express Handyman informed me he would leave and pick up the materials for the job at home depot. He told me that his hourly fee included paying for his time to shop for materials. I would not have agreed to these terms, however I had professional painters in my home on a tight schedule and I needed the wall mud, taped and sanded so the painters could paint the wall. He said they're re required to collect payment each day and billed me for 6 hours at the rate of $72.00. Additionally, I was not made aware of a fuel surcharge fee of $9.95 until he handed me the invoice. I was charged $48.86 for supplies and when I asked to see the receipt I was denied and told, "we keep the receipts for our records." I paid $490.81 for mud and tape on one small wall about 14 by 9 feet with a double door in the center. According to my new contractor, the quality of the work was terrible with rounded seems and misshapen walls. The poor workmanship meant paying an additional $450.00 to fix his work by new contractor. My carpenter came the next day to put the trim on and said, "you were raped by these people, this should have taken no more than 3 hours." When I called and spoke to the owner, Wendy she was unsympathetic and condescending. She stated she would call me back after she looked at the pictures and spoke to Jarrod. She never called back.
Response from Express Handyman
"To Whom It May Concern: We were called out to the member's home to “drywall a wall” approximately 14 x 9 . We tried to explain that we normally estimate this type of work and she could approve the work on the spot or we could come back if she accepted the estimate. Upon arrival, she stated that she just wanted the work done. The wall was indeed 14 x9 as she stated but she wanted both sides done and there was also additional work done, a nook she needed done. Please see the attached pictures. We taped the areas, applied the mud to a wall, hallway and nook as you can see in the photo’s provided. We did not hang the drywall-another contractor had hung the drywall already. We applied tape and mud as stated above. If the walls are mishapen it was not us. We only applied the tape and the mud to the newly hung drywall (which we did not sand by request of the homeowner). We tell each and every customer our rates before we begin a job – either verbally onsite or in writing –we also have them fill out a work authorization allowing us to do the work with the agreed amounts. She did sign a work authorization and an invoice and paid for the services. I can’t imagine paying for services or signing off on the services if I was an unhappy customer. At Express Handyman we stand behind our work. Wendy Thomas Project Manager Express Handyman"

First job they were great--$300 repairing a wooden garage (3 hours work plus material). I called the office and told them so. Later I called for a another job--stair railing for my front porch--they were terribly over-priced-I didn't accept their terms. So, mixed review.

They were prompt and sent out someone right away to hang the mirror. They determined I needed a special bracket and scheduled another date to come back and gave me a fixed price of around $225. It was a two person job, the first person showed up on time the second was about 3-4 hours behind. Still I was happy.
I decided to use them again. The second time I called the person who answered was again very prompt and called one of my tenants in a rental property and scheduled a time. I heard back a few days later it would be $350 to repair my stairs. I agreed. About a week later I get a call and the person said this is a bigger job than we thought it is going to be way more work than I originally thought. OK. Well I asked what it would cost... He said he wasn't sure the best way to handle it would be to do it hourly. I said I am concerned about how long you will be there this is a rental and I'd prefer a fixed price. They responded they cannot do that because they have no idea how long it will take. I said can you estimate, they said yes it shouldn't take more than 8 hours. I signed a contract agreeing to the fixed price per hour either $65 or $85 I can't remember. I received a bill for 20 hours and I called my tenant to verify the person was there that long and she stated yes, but he worked so slow I am not sure if he was doing anything half the time other than playing on his phone or was outside. I called and they said it is what it is for the most part. I hope ripping people off on hourly jobs puts you out of business. If you were honest you could of made a lot of $ off me for years as I have multiple properties. This is chump change to me so I didn't pursue it. If it would have been a bigger job I wouldn't of paid you. What happened to the honest people?
he first thing Brian did, remove the light fixture in the bathroom before he check to see if we had the right light fixture to replace the one he remove. We did not have light for that night because Brian remove the fixture,

The rest of Brian 4 hours was spent installing the utility tub in the basement. I do not believe it should have taken over 3 hours to replace a utility tub.

He did not provide receipt for the items he bought from Lowe's that he charge us for, nor did he left the parts he did or did not use.
