The guys were great, very personable and made quick work of our furniture and boxes. Not a whole lot to speak of in detail; it was all done before we knew it, including positioning the furniture in its respective rooms.

I couldn't be more pleased with the service that I received from the guys at Family Movers and I was pleased. I had previously planned to book this company for my move when I found out that there was possibility that I may have been moving due to job relocation however I was not sure of the dates. When I called and spoke with David Brown, I only had two weeks to move a 3br SFH with garage and a basement and yard full of toys! David last minute was able to accommodate me and get my house packed, loaded and into the truck. My children were more pleased than I was being so there was no toy left behind. Not to mention he was able to give the house a move out cleaning. Everyone was very understanding and patient with me as though I was not sure of which pieces I was selling and which pieces that I was keeping. While in the middle of my home move process I was having a yard sale. He was very helpful they all treated me as if I was Family he wrapped every piece of my furniture even things that was not that important he still wrapped and protected them. They did a excellent job packing the truck everything survived the ride to the new location over 300 miles safely undamaged. Mr. Brown made it so that my move was so smooth that the only thing I needed to do was go home and decorate. The guys unloaded the truck put every item in the rooms that I wanted them in unpack the kitchen and the living room boxes. Every step of the way I had help and wasn't as nervous as I have been or previous moves. I really appreciate the time and dedication that Mr. Brown and his crew gave me because that's rare to find someone who's not only doing this just to get a income but because they enjoy doing it and like helping other people I don't know what I would've done without Family Movers and preferably Mr. David Brown I wiould most definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone else that's in ever need of a packer, mover, driver or house cleaning service!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THEY ARE CHEAP AND THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT. My interactions with the main contact 'David Brown' was horrible as soon as I signed the contract. Their price was much lower than other movers...and I see why. HORRIBLE service! My request was to move my things out of a storage unit in DC to my new apartment in NY. I informed David several times about the storage Unit and gave him instructions for if anything went wrong there. His team was supposed to get to the Storage location at around 8AM (per my agreement with David). However, after not getting a call at around 11am that day, I called David's team. One of the guys informed me that the place they went to pick up their truck did not have any trucks, so they needed to go to second place for one, which led to their delay. HOWEVER, when I spoke with David a few minutes later, he told me that the 3-hour delay was due to issues at my storage Unit. Clearly, that was not the entire story. The truth was that his team was late getting to my storage. After many texts and calls (some of them contentious) with David and his team...the Movers got to my place at 11:30PM! UNACCEPTABLE! What was supposed to be a 5-hour move, took 12 hours! Lastly, although 99% of my items were already boxed up since I used a moving company to put my items in storage, some boxes had ripped due to being in storage for a while. Rather than transfer those items into new boxes...the Movers wrapped them up in my SHEETS & TOWELS and put them in the truck like that. My sheets! I was completely shocked to see these 'sheet bundles'. I also have his team member telling me "you need to chill" when I told them that showing up 11 hours late was unacceptable (however, I still offered them bottled water after the job was done). I have proof of their unprofessional responses via texts and recordings of my calls with them...if anyone doubts all my complaints stated here. My advice - spend a little bit more money and get professional movers who have their own trucks, can work effectively and will have better attitudes.
Response from Family Movers LLC
"Most companies are renting trucks. What this customer won't tell you is that she did not have a key for the storage uhaul would not allow my guys to just cut the lock and we had to pay a locksmith. The customer was not on site dealing with uhaul she completely left her situation up to the guys who had no access to the unit. Also she did not mention that my guys waited all day for someone to cut the lock at that point load a rat infested storage unit the boxes were chewed up by rats because of being there to long. She won't tell you that I guess we were late we get a F after dealing with all the nonsense with uhaul and locksmith and driving for 4-8hrs in DC and NYC rush hr traffic. Sorry for not being perfect."

Excellent. I was able to quickly book an appointment for the upcoming weekend with no problems. They communicated effectively and showed up on time to the job. They carefully lifted and maneuvered and awkward piece down several flights of stairs and seemed very experienced. They wrapped the piece to prevent damage using materials they supplied. I highly recommend and would use again.

Our move was originally scheduled for Saturday 10/7/2016. My wife received notice on Friday the 6th that the move was being postponed due to rain. Yes, rain. We were rescheduled for 12:00pm Monday the 10th. We were closing on the sale of the house on Tuesday the 11th, so we had to be out before 10am on Tuesday the 11th. On Monday, the 10th, the day unfolded as follows: 11:29am - phone call received saying the crew is still on another job and will be late and that they should arrive between 1:30 and 1:45p. I said, that was fine as long as it got done today because we don’t own the house tomorrow. 2:03pm - After no further communication and being that it was nearly 20 minutes AFTER the latest time they said they'd be here, I called back. The person I spoke to said he would look into the situation. 2:07pm - The driver calls me from his mobile phone to tell me that he had car problems and also that the truck was supposed to be ready at 1:00p but it wasn't and that he was now on his way to get the truck and would be to our location "shortly." 4:00pm - The driver calls to tell me that he is 14 minutes away after picking up the truck from UHaul. 4:00pm - I immediately call the office as I felt I was given the run around. If the crew was delayed on a job, how is it that the crew leader called me to tell me he had car issues and was going to pick up the truck then?!? It didn't add up to me and I wanted to confront them about it. After being told the job was a "labor job" and not a "moving job" I knew I was getting nowhere. He did say at one point, “we have had a lot of cancelations,” to which I reminded him that wasn’t my problem because THEY CANCELED ON US, we didn’t cancel on them. I went back and forth with the person some more and since I knew the driver was less than 14 minutes away at this point, I finally just said "you have 20 minutes to get someone here because now I am beginning to get bleeping (begins with f and rhymes with “lucking”, full disclosure, yes I swore, not hiding that detail at all). I then hung up the phone. 4:03pm - I receive a text message saying we have been canceled. That text message is shown in the image attached to this review. If a customer is not allowed to get mad after being canceled for rain on a Saturday and then given the run around on a Monday, keeping in mind that they were still going to be over 4 hours late, then what recourse do customers have? Keep in mind, we did not cancel on Saturday, they canceled on us...because of rain, and we didn't even get much rain to begin with. One swear word was enough to get canceled? And how is it that the moving company doesn't even have their own trucks and must rely on UHaul to provide trucks? UHaul and other truck rental companies are notorious for not always having the truck that was rented. If I had know this, I would have never purchased the deal through Angie's List. Luckily for us, we were able to find another vendor on Monday evening and they were at our house at 6am on Tuesday with their own truck and had us moved out by 7:45am. I will not share their name as that wouldn't be appropriate.

"Thank you for understanding that family movers try's to do our best for every customer and yes this is a growing company. No one deserves to be yelled at or spoken to in the manner in which you did sir. Yes we cancelled everybody on Saturday because of the storm that rip through the east coast. Thank you for understanding our safety is important. We can not just leave the customer even after we arrive and they have way more than expected. This is apart of the moving industry"

The movers arrived only a few minutes after the scheduled time, and wrapped the media console in plastic to prevent scratches. They were in and out of both homes in a matter of minutes, and were extremely courteous and professional. I am incredibly pleased and thankful to know that this is now an option for big furniture purchases in the DC area!

I used an Angie's List coupon that Family Movers had available...using 2 movers for 2 hours. They were very professional, punctual and responsive. They completed the job in a little more than 1 hour and that was will some driving. If I need movers again, I would hire them.

The movers were able to move my recliner couch with ease down three flights of stairs at the old place and up three flights of stairs at the new place with no elevator. Overall, it was a good experience.

The providers arrived exactly on time. The providers introduced themselves. The providers were very friendly and professional. The providers asked questions to determine my needs. The providers had a positive attitude and wanted to serve. The providers unassembled furniture, moved the furniture from one floor to another, and reassembled the furniture. The providers placed the furniture in the exact places as instructed. The providers were patient as I made up my mind on where to place certain furniture. The providers made sure I was completely satisfied with their services before signing off on the job.
David was the ultimate professional from our initial contact to the day of my move. He and his crew showed up on time with the right size truck and protective material to move my household goods without incident. The men were polite and professional. They used shrink wrap and padding to protect my furniture. They worked hard to complete the job within a responsible time period to avoid me too much overage. I had to pay for an additional 1.5 hours above the 2 hours I had purchased in advance via coupon. The time and cost were well worth it because I experienced an uneventful, seamless move by a professional crew that met all of my needs.
I highly recommend Family Movers and would definitely use their services again for my future moving needs.
Let me put it in this prospective - "Family Movers, LLC" company is not what you would expect of any company that advertises
itself as a "moving company". We purchased a deal for "two hours, three men, labor only". In fairness, we must give them a credit
because they were pretty flexible and accommodating with scheduling of the service. They arrived on time and two out of three men worked hard to unload our furniture from two PODS; one container was half unloaded by us before their arrival because we needed to get this done asap. We must mention that they did not have any special devices with them, which would be very helpful and less stressful on them with moving/lifting larger items (don't you think any reputable company would have those?) except for a hand truck that they used only once.
The whole process took 2.5 hours. As Angies' List advertises "an extra time could be purchased for 89.99 per hour" (it was not
mentioned that an extra time over initial limit will be charged as a whole hour regardless)". However, after the crew was done it was announced that we owe them additional $115. Why? "Because this is how much we charge" was their boss David very impolite answer over the phone. After we referred to the terms on the ad, he gave us a discount in his words and agreed to $89. We asked again: "Why? It has been 30 min overtime and not an hour plus we see a damage on the walls, which requires your attention". After that he started screaming and not allowing us to speak. His argument was that this project could take 3-4 hours (well, it did not!) to complete and we must pay him for the whole hour. We personally (two more people) were helping them and it took only 2.5 hours. Why should we pay for the time that someone assumes could take rather then for the actual time. We suggested that we will pay in full (even for that extra time, 30min., we didn't really owe him) once all the repair is complete. He then hang on us. Next minute we saw a police by our front door requesting the payment. It's unbelievable!
One phrase by David really tells a lot about this company approach: " Why do you argue about $89? Is that too much money for
you?" Well, we could give his crew a tip (they worked well overall), but after David's rudeness towards us, we no longer considered that. We were expecting whatever was advertised and his explanation of the "misstatement' was that the Angie's List ad payment description is not what his company charges. He stated that Angies' List at their own discretion put the terms on the ad and it does not comply with his policy. Our suggestion was to discuss this issue with Angie's List directly and that we should not be part of this nonsense. His loutish reaction was as if he did not want to discuss anything anymore, but we must pay him the balance per his own unwritten terms.
One more thing to mention, the damage on our new freshly painted light colored walls and doors were not just from moving the furniture (we have an open floor plan and a wide staircase and we covered everything possible to prevent the damage), but a lot of marks , which we cannot remove now, from their clothes. There are also several dents here and there on the walls.
It was over a week now since this shattering experience occurred and we never heard back from them about a repair visit although David affirmed that they will take care of it, while he was insistently requesting the extra payment. Is it our turn to call the police?
To make it short, the crew doing the work was okay (FYI, one of them was seen in the rooms where he was not supposed to be - we were not comfortable with that behavior either), but communication with David was the worst. He doesn't stand behind his work and promises, but will not hesitate to charge you more than you would expect. He is very unprofessional and disrespectful to his customers as one other review had stated earlier, which we must believe before we hired this company.
Make a judgment for yourself, if you want to deal with that.
In conclusion, we expect a refund of $44.50 and then they don't need to return to repair the damage.
Response from Family Movers LLC
"Please allow Family movers to interject, Yes we did come out and do a great job and no we do not expect to call the police when a customer threatens to put us out his home after his job was completed. Not to mention threating to call the police because not wanting to pay for your time sir. I did say I would come out and do repairs but after dealing with you sir and having to involve the police I chose not to continue dealing with such an angry person. Family Movers is a great team of guys please don't be discourage by one person opinion."

David said he takes pride in his work and it definitely showed. He provided us with a fair quote and was very clear about what type of service he provides. After scheduling the move, David was responsive to any of my questions and concerns. Most importantly, he showed up on the time we agreed upon, proceeded to carefully wrap and transfer our furniture into his truck, and delivered it to our new place a few hours later as agreed upon. I was so impressed with the service that I'm already planning on contacting him to help pickup some large furniture items that we recently purchased on craigslist.
Highly recommended for sure.
David and crew did an excellent job during the move. They were on time and moved quickly. We had a small amount of furniture to be moved and many other companies I tried had a 3-4 hour minimum. David charged the exact price he quoted when I originally called and even had some suggestion to make the move cheaper for me! My wife and I were extremely happy with the move and would definitely use them again in the future. Thanks, David!
