Went very well. Tile work looks great and the entire job was done correctly.
Paul and his crew paid attention to detail, was honest and up front about the cost and timeline and came in slightly under budget and on-time. Work space was kept clean and orderly and minimized the impact to the home. Work site was cleaned up and organized at the end of each day.
Paul told me at the time he came out to bid that he typically works on one job at a time and gives it his full attention. We decided to wait until he was available and were glad that we did. His attention to detail and careful oversight of all phases of the job was impressive. It was clear that our satisfaction was important to him. Of the few small problems that came up, he dealt with them immediately and we were more than satisfied. He was easy and great to work with, and the outcome exceeded our expectations. We are already talking with him about our next home improvement project. We highly recommend Five Star.
It went perfect. They are my go to people and will always request their services as needed! They did a kitchen addition including a bathroom in 2006 which was also without complaint. Love these guys!!!
Anita & John
Paul did a fantastic job. He was easy to work with, cared about our expectations, was creative in his suggestions, and he was very detailed in his workmanship. He also checked in a few times throughout the week to see if we had any questions or had any comments for him. Our rooms were initially dingy, outdated, and closed in; now we love being in the new updated space! It's modern, fresh, open, and bright. We will definitely call up Paul again for any upcoming remodel project.
Paul and his partner were great to work with, they arrived at exactly the time agreed upon and worked tirelssly, no breaks moving quickly from one project to the next for 5 straight hours. Although DIY home repairs is not their primary work (carpentry) they took it all on and completed more than I expected to get done in this period of time.
They were completely professional, did quality work and were easy to work with. Paul was very open about not doing work he was not licensed for - plumbing and electrical, but provided advice on how work could be done.
I will use Paul and his team again and would highly recommend him to others!
Scott
We first hired Paul in 2011 to handle the 'restoration' of a cedar sided greenhouse attached to our home (both exterior and interior). It proved to be a complex and challenging project. Thanks to Paul, there were no 'surprises'. His pricing was beyond fair. You don't need to be concerned about any overselling or lack or concern for quality. We were so impressed with the outcome on our greenhouse project that we didn't consider approaching other contractors to bid on projects we wanted completed this summer.
Paul is unusually effective in his ability to assess a project, anticipate what will be required, articulate the project scope in a clear and concise proposal and keep the customer informed and aware every step of the way (i.e. no surprises). Each of our three projects presented unique and often challenging aspects---project # 1 required judgement calls on evaluating the scope of the project (e.g. how much siding/soffit material required replacement); managing angles and elevations that were problematic at best, and somehow meetIng a deadline so the painting company could proceed on schedule (remember June and all that rain--). Project #2 required regrading the ground beneath the deck and installing ledger flashing to resolve a water leakage problem. Project #3 , well, it's our garden! Details are everything, and Paul managed to deliver beyond our expectations.
Obviously, we have great confidence in Paul Landmann and have no hesitation in giving him our highest recommendation.

Paul came and looked over the project and took measurements. The same afternoon he emailed me the estimate, which was lower than the other estimates we had received and much faster too. We got back to him the next week to set up a time for him to come and do the project. Because he had other projects going on at the same time, we did some calling back and forth to arrange times for him to work on our basement, but I never had trouble contacting him - he returned phone calls quickly. He and another worker did all of the work. They were professional and did a good job. They left the work area clean when they left each day and came on time when they said they would. The project from start to finish lasted a little longer than I expected, but the amount of time they were working on it was about what Paul had estimated it to be. We had to wait a little longer than anticipated to get paint and stain matches done and my schedule and his didn't always match up, but this only meant that it lasted a few more days than expected. The results are great - you can't tell where the new paint starts and the stained oak ledges all look the same.

The project went very well. Work started as soon as the city inspector signed off on the permit, and was completed on time. At the end of each day Five Star left the site clean and orderly. They encountered some unexpected hidden problems which they resolved without adding any extra costs to our bill. Paul and Kelly were pleasant to deal with at all times, and we will gladly recommend them. They did quality work, on schedule, and on budget.

This job was a nightmare. I felt completely stressed out when the contractor did poor quality work, and was argumentative and non-responsive. I worried about confronting him about the problems in the job. I am afraid Paul has a bad temper, which is what his ex-partner Dan told me.
Response from Five Star Building & Remodeling LLC
"I have been with Angies List since 2004 and have never had a report like this, This report is not acurate in any way. The customer was very difficult to work with he constantly delayed the project unable to make simple decisions regarding paint colors, grout colors, tile choices, stain colors etc. I bent over backwards to try and please this customer and he was never happy. After the project was complete he made me wait two months for the final payment."

We were very happy with Five Star Remodeling. The work is quality work and the cost is very reasonable. We watched the work as it progressed, asked lots of questions and understood what was going on from beginning to end. In addition to quality work, Paul made great suggestions and was flexible and nice. We have dealt with many contractors in the past and I have had a hard time finding someone who takes ownership of their work and is honest and reliable. We will definitely hire Five Star again when we are ready for the next job!

Paul did a great job. Our previous contractor didn't do a very good job on the rough openings for the doors so it took longer than Paul thought to install the doors, but he didn't charge us extra. Every door looks really good. The wall he finished for us looks a lot better than the other walls. We should have called him first. He will be getting a call from us on any more work we need for sure.

Paul responded very quickly to our initial request for a visit and was very patient answering the many questions we had during the bidding process. We solicited three bids and Paul's was the winner from a price and value for service perspective. Paul is very easy to work with and we just liked his personality. That played a big part in the decision. The work done is gorgeous. Removing the popcorn ceilings in the lower level and replacing with knockdown was a terrific move. I haven't found a flaw in them yet! Paul made sure all work was done in the time frame we gave him even working until late one evening to make sure painting was done before carpet installers were scheduled the following day. If we were to need more work of this kind again I would definitely give Paul a call.

The job went really smoothly. I have an older home which still had the original tile in the bathroom (two layers on the floor apparently!). Paul started the job on time and finished early. He was responsive to my concerns and kept me updated frequently on what was happening. He had good suggestions on design, and good ideas about how to deal with problem spots, which seem to be frequent in older homes! Paul has excellent attention to detail, and I picked an intricate tile pattern which turned out beautifully. The gentlemen who work for Paul were courteous, prompt and helpful. I felt at ease from beginning to end. At this point, y bathroom is the most spectacular room in my house!! I have used this company before, and whole heartedly recommend them.

Paul and Dan were very professional and their attention to detail was amazing. They really took the time with us upfront in the planning phase to do multiple drawings and alterations to the original plan to make sure that we were getting exactly what we wanted. Once we decided on a final direction they got to work immediately with obtaining permits and ordering windows for our project and other than a few weather delays completed the project on time. When the work began they made great progress and took the time to bring up ideas to make the project better. Our house was built in 1906 and the craftmanship that Paul and Dan possess to make the interior trim match the existing trim was more than we could have hoped for. They did a great job matching the exterior shakes and paint work to make the addition look like it had always been here. In the end, we are absolutely thrilled with our new living space and how much nicer it is than we envisioned it turning out. Paul and Dan completed the project on time and on budget. We have already asked them to replace a few windows in the house and have recommended them to several friends/neighbors/family members for upcoming projects. We would absolutely use Five Star again for any upcoming projects.

Paul and Dan are first rate. They kept us informed on all aspects of the work and made mid-course corrections when asked. Even though we added several additional projects to the list of work to be completed, Five Star finished on time.
