Five Star Painting And Remodeling

All went very well with Five Star. Their sub-contractors are top-notch and professional and David Summers oversees all work constantly. they do not cut corners and if they run into a problem they FIX IT and do not ignore it or work around it. They are also known for cleaning up the work area every day.

I’m an out of state investor when a pipe burst in one of my homes. I wasn’t aware of this issue until days later and by that time the water had completely destroyed some of the brand new flooring, drywall, paint, etc. I got estimates from several contractors and Dave’s bid was very reasonable/competitive. He was able to start working on it within a week of the bid and completed the entire restoration in two days along with correcting the sub par job my plumber did on replacing the broken pipe which he did free of charge. Quality work and goes above and beyond what I expected and paid for. 100% Recommend!

Outstanding work was done. All workers were extremely friendly and caring. Great care was taken to allow me to remain in my home as the entire front of the house was remodeled. The house was completely cleaned at the end of each day. David was informative and made outstanding recommendations to allow me to remodel reasonably for my area which is Oak Forest with my home being on a large lot and nice mid-sized home. Electrical was replaced, new plumbing, new tankless water heater installed, new floors, new facing on fireplace is beautiful, new windows, new custom built cabinets and facing. Attention to detail was stunning. David even made some accessiblity adjustments for my son in a wheelchair as well as a new ramp was built. The job was given a time frame and was only 1 week late due to me adding additional work. Highly recommend David Summers and his crew.

I highly recommend David Summers and Five Star Painting & Remodeling. I did extensive research before selecting David. He exceeded our expectations. He offered reasonable pricing but more important, the work was excellent. David and his crew are very professional and very polite. Great communication and customer service. They kept the work site very clean and organized. My father is a former high end custom home builder and he was VERY IMPRESSED. Even if you have to wait to get on their calendar, do it. You can't go wrong with David!

Very well. Dave and his crew do quality work and the finished product shows skilled craftsmen and careful attention to detail. If you are absolutely certain you know what you want and exactly how you want it, you will need to communicate that clearly and then make sure you are understood. Dave has done many remodel jobs and has his vision of what is to be done and you just need to assure you are on the same page. The finished product is of a high quality and you will be please with how you spent your money. I would use him again and I will recommend him to those who appreciate quality work.

The level of professionalism, courtesy, and quality of work was unlike anything we have had done in the past. They had the key to our home in West University, and I felt fully comfortable. Dave and his crew did a great job. He also helped us avoid a poor color choice (which on the wall didn't look anything like it did on the Sherwin-Williams website). Not the most inexpensive option out there but the quality is top-knotch.

Outstanding! Dave and his crew worked diligently to complete the project on time - even with extensive changes I requested. His crew was on time every day and left the house in a very livable condition every night, swiffering the floors every evening before they left. The crew was pleasant and helpful throughout the project, going the extra mile in every way. Dave was so helpful with design ideas and even shopping for accessories that I wanted - he seems almost intuitive to his client's taste. I was so confident in his crew that I felt confident leaving them in the house all day while I had other obligations to fulfill. I had total trust in everyone who was a part of the project. I have had nothing but compliments from friends and family who love the changes - updating from the 70s to today! Dave answered every one of my phone calls within an hour and kept in touch regarding every aspect of the project when I wasn't home. I cannot praise Dave enough for the work he completed. I'm planning on scheduling even more work with him this fall - to update the rest of the house.

The first quote had a shower with a hinged glass door with a linen closet next to it. We asked to change that to a walk-in shower with no door and to delete the linen closet. The changed order was extremely high (he knew he had the job -my wife wanted to use his service.) But insisted the shower could not be a walk-in because it was too small (2 other contractors said it was fine) and that the change order would be to drop the linen closet and to change the door from hinge to a slider. His voice was hash and intimidating. I told him where I wanted the seat placed in the shower and he insisted it had to go elsewhere because that was where they always placed them. I told him I wanted the shower head offset from center so we could stand next to the seat. He said that was impossible. Again his voice and facial expressions were intimidating. The next morning "HE" had an idea why not place the seat where I wanted it and then offset the shower head so we could stand next to the seat. The next day he came to me with "HIS" idea -- why not make it a walk-in shower with no door at all. (He did discount price of glass for door) He insisted that we used his suppliers (he got discounted prices and marked them up to retail) I showed him that I had a source for materials at much lower prices -- his mannerism turned intimidating once again but agreed to give me a 20% discount on tile pricing (again my wife wanted to use his services.) When it was time to settle the bill he was in a near rage and hurry to leave and insisted he had already included the discount but refused to explain to me where it was on paper. While leaving I asked him for my 5' steel rule that his workman took by mistake an he forgot to bring it. He turned sweet as honey and handed me a $100 bill and asked me to forgive his earlier outburst as he hadn't eaten lunch. (but still did not offer to explain the discount) His crew did excellent work and the final product needed only minor touch up (as any project does).

Dave Summers, principal of 5* was the most professional contractor we met with. When he showed up for the initial estimate, he was ON-TIME, was prepared, empathetic, thorough, professional and above all had references printed out and in a neat folder. This just felt right and made us feel very comfortable. At the end of each day’s work where and when possible 5* had the place cleaned up from their work, not piles of dust, drywall, and stuff to step around. I would recommend Dave and Five Star to everyone who really needs a pro to walk through their place to make a list of what needs to be done and what should be done to improve the value of the property. Great - all aspects. From the estimate, the timing of work start, the work itself, the cleanup, the communication - all great.

The crew showed up on time every day and went right to work; no waiting around to be told what to do. They even gave me a recommendation on a paint color that was better than the one I had selected. The work was meticulous and they wouldn’t say the job was complete until they were satisfied. They even photograph where your pictures are before they take them down to paint so they can put them back where you had them. I was very satisfied with their work and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

All the work need to be done was done exactly as I wanted it to be done. The work was very, very good, Dave Summers is very professional. His employees are also very professional and nice and trusting, you can trust Dave Summers and his employees 100%. The work was done in a timely manner and everyday after they were done working the employees clean up and never left a mess. Mr. Summers was always on the job site everyday with his employees making sure the job was going as planned. He is easy to talk to and work with and is great with correcting and solving any problems that would come up on the job. Mr. Summers prices are very fair. I have uses Mr. Summers and his employees a total of five times and every job was completed with great satisfaction. I would not use anyone else.

Excellent! I am a 25 year repeat customer. They are reliable and they get the job done in a timely manner. The only objective is my friends and neighbors are impressed with the work.

In brief, Dave Summers and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. They were professional and first class in every respect- excellent communicators, up front in terms of laying out cost info, performing work on schedule, cleaned up thoroughly etc. I also felt their work was reasonably priced and there were no surprises. I heard about them because they did a remodeling job for my Niece who was equally impressed with their work and highly recommended them. Just sorry you don’t have an A+ category because I feel they deserved it.

There is some good talent on his team but he refuses to fix number of items in the house after he said the job was done and also demanded more payments. Otherwise, his pricing is reasonable. He's very difficult to work with. Doesn't have a concern on what's the customer wants. Wants to build your house his way and not deliver the product that you're looking for. Be very careful about what you put in to your contract. Some of the repairs that he did do were sub-quality. Some of the things that he did was good.

Dave Summers was very prompt, efficient, and polite. He did (or contracted) extensive work - floors, cabinetry, electrical, AC, sheetrock, appliances, windows, etc. He listened carefully to what I wanted and made suggestions when I was not sure what I wanted. He helped me make selections for floors, granite, paint scheme. He was always on time. The work is excellent; I a very happy with my remodeled house. Highly recommended.

David and his team were excellent. They were extremely conscientious, courteous and clean. The work was completed quickly and efficiently. I would definitely recommend Five Star Painting and Remodeling.

The project was finished in about 2 1/2 months, as promised. Dave was on the job every day, and his team was timely and conscientious. Because he undertakes only one job at a time, we always felt that we were a priority. The workers packed up our kitchen for us before they started. There were several additional small projects that were suggested by Dave during the course of the job, they were reasonable additions and completed timely and at a fair price. His attention to detail is a great asset. Dave accompanied us to choose granite, tile and backsplash and his recommendations were consistent with our preferences and tastes. After Dave's initial bid in mid-March, we called him back to expand the scope of the job, lengthening the amount of time the remodel required. He was receptive to the changes and able to balance the longer project with his other clients. Dave was able to schedule us to begin in June and finished the job toward the end of August. My husband works from a home office and was appreciative of Dave's consideration of his schedule during a loud and dusty project. We were never concerned about having any of the workers in our home. Dave works with subcontractors he has known and relied on for many years, and they did an outstanding job as well. Due to weather delays, and Dave's desire to keep his team working, we had the added bonus of getting additional rooms painted.

Fantastic work.  We have pets at home and both work (and travel) and knew going in that this would be a very invasive project, given the living space disruption, furniture and pet relocations, etc.  All demolition, painting and installation work was extremely well completed well within schedule we discussed before hand.  Five Star takes superlative care of our possessions during this project, and they clean up the entire work area before leaving each night.  I have completed many remodels over the years and have never experienced this attention to detail, clean-up and follow-through.

David and his team are detailed and to the point, from planning (estimate) to completing the work and finishing it.  We were very pleased with how David handled the renovation and entrusted him to work through our vacation.  Some key differentiators Five Star Painting & remodeling offered that were important to us: <br>- Estimate: Detailed and thought through. David notes all - very detailed - so make sure you document what you want in the estimate so that David can make it complete and no surprises later (this is an approach I expect from a good contractor).  What is not included but later comes up to be done is in effect a "change order" and that makes sense.  David is detailed so this is pretty easy if you know what you want.  For example I forgot to request the crown moulding in the estimate, David himself realized the need during the remodel, put it in at a reasonable price.  Other contractors do the same but often from a non-detailed estimate and you wonder what was and what was not included.  David's estimate leaves little debate and that is good, you just want to agree the price with David in relation to extra work as you progress your project in advance so you can manage your contingency.    <br>- Work one job at the time, hence your job only: This means focus on David's side and alignment on ensuring your project gets done in time (as David otherwise has to defer his next job).   This is a really great way Five Star works, and should not be underestimated in importance if you compare contractors.   <br>- Willingness to extend scope:  We had various additional jobs done by David's team.  As we saw quality progress on other items, David delivered several other estimates versus our base project and we did almost all of them. this was also efficient given the team was already full time on site.  <br>- Attention to detail: all around, he'll ensure it is right for you <br>- Customer focus: David will advise (and he has his opinions), but he is very open to a discussion on what is best for you and will deliver as you want, just need to have the discussion with David (and I am also detail oriented, but practical).  David will also be ensuring you pick a (structural) quality solution.   His response times are also great, if you call him, he'll attend to your request quickly.  <br>- Cleanliness: We have young children and lived through the 2.5 month remodel: David's team takes precautions against remodel dust and dirt in the house, and also cleans up after themselves every day (David oversees) so you can feel as comfortable as reasonably possible during a renovation.   <br>- Work non-standard requests:  We had some 'European' designs in mind, and while David had to get used to some preferences that were pretty different from most other jobs I imagine, he did pretty well on figuring out how to deal with it.  This included tile accent walls, sliding shower doors, non-standard window hight, an ikea vanity, etc.  <br>- Punctuality of his crew:  In one word: awesome ... we dealt with other contractors, but his team is there 8:30 sharp, and usually leaves same time after cleaning up, unless they want to finish up something to ensure progress or ensure to meet the  inspector's apointment they'll stay late to complete.  <br>- Crew:  The guys were great, they were polite and friendly, can laugh about kids doing something awkward and always ensuring they are not in your way, while pretty hard working.  <br>- Permitting: David handled this well, quite a few permits, from what I can see (but I am no expert).  Make sure you discuss during estimate with David what permitting entails and possible impact on timeline given for larger projects I noticed there are quite a few and different type of inspections.  <br>- Subcontractor oversight:  Strong and he will push for quality and timing.  <br>- If there is one thing I can think of that might have been done better it would be the the shower valve handle installations.  We likely had a unusual type of valve and the handles in the end didn't all sit at the same depth from the wall.  A detailed person like me gets a bit fussed about it, but I noticed others have had the same issue with this type of fixture, so this may well relate to the unusual choice we made and the unfamiliarity the plumbers had with it. Having set that, it all works and looks pretty good.  <br> <br>Overall:  David is a pleasure to work with, very professional, great delivery, timeliness, detail oriented, customer focus, ensures cleanliness.  Next job he is first on our list.

Can't say enough about how well my experience went with Five Star. If you want to waste your time and quote around for your large remodel project you can, but you'll be disappointed with the results.  If you have a major home renovation project to do in the Houston Area and you're reading this, stop searching and call Five Star to set up a consultation.   <br /> I have an tall patio town home that I purchased with an unfinished 4th floor.  I wanted to add a bathroom and bedroom so guests could enjoy the deck and have the facilities on the same level. This was no easy task. Dave Somers was extremely helpful and communicative from day one about the project.  I travel quite a bit for work, so I was not able to be there for the majority of the project.  We handled a lot of the start up over the phone and Dave was always responsive and available. His crew was extremely professional and always left the work areas clean and organized. The project turned out better than I ever could have expected. I would recommend Five Star to anyone who is looking to make a major improvement to their home.   <br /> Be advised:  Dave and his crew are very busy, and you may have to wait some time for the project to get started.
