This company is out of business, it has it's license revoked. Angie's List should remove them from their list.

Did a good job initially. Did not install small plugs that cover the screws holding the window to the frame. Failed to respond to come back and do it. Some cosmetic drawback to their good job. Weak customer services!

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. BUYER BEWARE! One star is one too many. Stay clear of this company and all employees of the company -- if you can find them. On the recommendation of 2 of my friends who had used Five Star Windows several years ago, I received a bid and signed a contract for a full house window and sliding door replacement for approximately ~$20K. Unfortunately, I was not aware of California Business & Professions Code § 7159.5(a)(3), which specifies that contractors cannot ask for or accept more than 10% down payment or 1,000.00, whichever is less. However, in good faith I paid 30% with a check. The check was promptly cashed the following day, the salesperson left the county a few days later for vacation, and 6 weeks later, I am still trying to get the company to fulfill the contract or return my refund..to no avail. They will not answer phone calls, they will not respond to emails, and when I went to the showroom to speak to someone, all I got was empty promises from the office manager that someone would call me. This business must not get away with this type of practice, and I urge all readers in the market to stay clear of this company.

Overall, it went pretty well, though there were some gotchas that future customers should be wary of. 1) At the time of the estimate, I specifically asked about whether a permit was needed and if so who was responsible for getting it. FiveStar indicated that a permit would be needed and getting it was their responsibility. However, they did not get it. A city inspector caught them doing unpermitted work on the final day of installation. He was kind enough to let them finish what they were doing with the instruction that they rectify the permit issue afterwards. FiveStar told me that they were trying to save me money by skipping the permit. At no time had I indicated that cutting legal corners to save money was an option. In fact, I would have thought that my questioning about the permit process would have conveyed my interest in doing things according to the city regulations. (I think they were actually saving themselves some expense and effort.) If the inspector had caught them at a different time in the process and been less accommodating and enforced a stop work order, I could have been left with gaping holes in my house for several days while the permit issue was resolved. Lesson learned: ensure that workers have the appropriate permit in hand when they show up for work. 2) I had expected that the house would be tidied up each day after work was completed. That was not the case. Drop cloths and debris cluttered various rooms. This was not a huge deal in my case, but it is something for future customers to clarify with the company. 3) The workers did some repair of cracks in the wall by a couple of the windows. It appears that the mud was flung somewhat sloppily. I found globs of it on adjoining walls and on nearby furniture. Fortunately, the furniture was already somewhat worn, so I could take this in stride. Lesson learned: if you have furniture or other items that you want to ensure are well protected, do it yourself, even though the contract says that they will cover furniture and use drop cloths. 4) Some of the screens did not fit properly, leaving gaps for insects to get into the house. It took two attempts to get the right-size screens. The first attempt failed because the replacement screens were not ordered at the right size, according to the manufacturer. I don't know why the original screens didn't fit properly. This was resolved with some patience (since the screens had to be made to order). Proper fit of the screens is something to watch out for.

Overall it went smoothly without major hitches. There we some delays in getting the windows delivered but that was not on the company. I also did not negotiate to paint the exterior window frames which would have been easy to do at the time of installation. Because it is a second story unit I had to pay someone to do this after the windows were installed. But besides that it was a good experience and was done without issues and it was on time. Their price was competitive. The folks who did the work and the estimates were friendly and professional and the quality of work was excellent.

The price was good. They're responsiveness was good because there was a minor issue. It was mainly cosmetic. There were plastic caps that goes in the hole of the window after they put the screws through. They failed to put that. I called them, they were supposed to follow-up and they didn't follow-up. They never called me back and they never responsive to take care of that, unless they came and maybe my kids had them do it. The work was incomplete. It's really a minor thing. They're so stupid not to finish the job and they were good otherwise. They didn't get bad ratings, and I don't think the owner even knows. I called them actually six months to three months ago. I told them to come and finish up the final finishing touch of the window, which is part of their job. They never called back. I asked them to even have their owner call me. They're not responsive. The work they did was good except for this last item. I hate to give them a bad mark. They didn't follow up and have a bad reception. I'm not happy with the work because it's not fair that I gave them the full price and they didn't do a full job. Actually the workers were good. They came, they were efficient and did the job. The final touch they didn't do.

They did a really good job. The first installer did not install the door properly and the latch did not line up so it wouldn't lock. We contacted them and another installer came out and did a super job. He basically had to redo it. He did and it came out great. They do a good job and if something isn't quite right to begin with they are responsible. They get it done correctly and professionally. I would say they are a reliable company.

It went well. They were very professional and came to the property to measure the windows and provide a bid. The windows arrived when promised and were promptly installed. Both job sites were cleaned after install. Overall, I'm very impressed with them and would definitely hire them again.

Fantastically well. They worked with us on the price and tradeoffs and did a great job on the entire set of windows as well as installing flashing on the house to prevent water buildup on the window frames on the outside of the house.
