Bill Martins Flood Crew is excellent. In December, just before Christmas, my finished rec room flooded when my sump pump failed--soaked carpet, cardboard boxes, books, furniture with sewer water. I thought I would not find anybody this time of year to help me. But I called Bill Martins from Flood Crew, and he came out right away. He looked at the basement and gave me an analysis of my damage on the spot. He was wonderful. He took care of getting detailed estimates to my insurance company and then made arrangements for me with all the needed specialists. First, I wouldn't have known where to start, and second I wouldn't have had a clue whom to call. I needed crews to remove the carpet, cut out drywall all around to dry it out, check for mold, test for asbestos, and then remove everything. And, of course, fixing the sump pump, installing flooring, putting everything back, and lots of details in between. All of this obviously can't be completed in a week or even a month. My work was not the only project that busy contractors had. My situation was far more complicated than I thought it would be. Ultimately, it took four months, which I thought was very reasonable. And the result is so beautiful--no corners cut, no putting up with mediocre results, all this for the same price and time or less than others quote. Be patient. Be flexible. Talk with Bill about the results you want. Listen to suggestions. Your results will be beyond anything you thought was possible.

We had Flood Crew out to help when our hot water heater broke. Bill and his crew were great! From the water remediation to installing a whole new floor in the basement, the crew took care of every step. These are some of the hardest working guys I’ve ever seen! And they don’t play around, they get the job done. I recommend them to anyone needing this type of work done. Thanks a million, Bill & crew! ???

Bill Martins was good until he wasn't, and I am now suing him for the money he stole from me. I paid a deposit and signed a work authorization form on 12/27/23. Due to permitting delays and needing to align other contractors for this water and mold damage in my basement, the project was set to begin on March 13. On March 12, Bill called to pawn me off to a subcontractor. Knowing the tight timeline I was on to get this work done, I agreed to work with the subcontractor the next day. The subcontractor requested payment, and I noted that I would pay the balance once he confirmed that my deposit payment had been transferred to him from Bill/Flood Crew LLC. In the talk of payments, the subcontractor also revealed there was a $2000 difference between the cost of his work and the estimate Bill provided me. The subcontractor actually called Bill with me on the phone to discuss these money matters, to which Bill appeared angry at being exposed for his inflated estimates. He ended the call abruptly. Bill then called me back to say I had to pay his estimated price no matter what the subcontractor told me and that he would not be transferring my deposit because "he had been talking to me for months." As I could not be thrown off my schedule, I worked with the subcontractor to keep the work on track. Bill never showed up at my worksite and has refused phone calls and to return voicemails. He stole my deposit, did none of the contracted work, and is now avoiding me. I look forward to seeing Bill in a legal setting to discuss his poor business practices and outright criminal behavior. Update (4/3/24): Following intervention from the DC Office of the Attorney General, Bill Martins returned my full deposit. This update reflects that new development.

"Where do we begin. We signed a contract back in mid-december.This customer was ecstatic with my five star customer service. She lived In a different country, And it was very happy that we were helping her out since she didn't live here, We helped with her tenant, We went to the job to see if we can find out what the source of the water for weeks, All for a small deposit ($1500, To invest time into anything , you need to be compensated for regardless if you don't physically do the work, It's called a retainer in professional terms). We have proof of many, many happy replies from her. We had to figure out many things about who was gonna pay for what?Because the insurance wasn't sure if this wasn't gonna be something that they were gonna pay, I did all I could to try to get the insurance to cover, So she wouldn't have to pay out of her pocket. They found out later that the water had come from the outside and the insurance does not pay for water that comes from outside. We went well and beyond for the customer, We spent hours hours on this job, then she turns around and fires us so she could save two thousand dollars! ( We are worth way more than that!). We were really busy and was not expecting that she was esthetic with what we were doing for her.And she didn't have to be in the US to do that, It wasn't even maybe a week or two and then she starts blasting us on all the social media. ( Again we are been working with this client since mid december, The reason for the delays is because the waterproofing company were backed up three months, We were the one that were lining up all the companies). We use standard insurance software called Xactimate, input in the zip code and it gives us a price. All the insurance companies and all the water damage company's use this. The estimate was sent, the customer agreed to it. She was happy, Until we got really busy and just mentioned to her that a sub contractor was gonna be doing the remaining of the work, and for her to pay for the remainder directly to them ( They are an one man show company and they like to get paid when they're done). She went behind us and asked the sub how much he was charging us, he told her, and she felt we were overcharging ($3500 was his cost to us, the cleanup & mitigation was $5k, 4 months of leg work, Referred half a dozen companies, Talk to all the companies back and forth to ensure everything was going smoothly, most mold remediation jobs avg $6k-$15k), just like all the other jobs we have subs, But they still Check-in with us, And was still coordinate the whole job with them, So we are still working on the job, While they are physically doing the work. Once again, this customer doesn't think companies should make money. We need to make money. She stole and hireeld the sub under us, paid him, Called the next day, Demands full refund, And starts to threaten us, It make up these lies. We refunded the money, And we lost everything. If there was a way to look up customers how they really are.I really hope that other companies will never have to meet somebody like this."

Customer Service – Fair: Bill was very cordial. His sister Julia was nice. Members of his team were as well, although a few were inconsiderate. Some left trash sitting in our home from working. For example, one left their coffee from 7Eleven on a shelf in the garage that wasn’t seen until the next day. In the beginning they were very responsive and accommodating. It seemed after the payment was transferred the dedication slowly waned. We had to constantly contact Bill asking to schedule the much-needed repairs. He informed that the nature of the business made it hard to do this. There must not have been clear communication between them either. When one of the men came to work one day, we asked what he was here to do and he replied ‘we’ll see’ as if he didn’t already know. Bill had to apologize too many times for his team’s behavior. The contract signed for the work is not in any way a real benefit to the client. It is simply in place to allow the company control over all financials involved and prevent them from being held responsible for errors that could arguably be made out as the customer’s fault for willful or unwitting negligence. The warranties consist of them stating they will perform in a safe and workmanlike manner while in compliance with applicable laws/regulations. There is an implied warranty, but nothing is written in the agreement that a customer is protected should something go wrong during a specific time after the project ends. Timeliness – Poor: Reliable scheduling was a major issue and we really wanted to work with Bill to finish our project. When we first decided to meet with Bill, he arrived in a timely fashion. He was eager to take on the project. He assured us he was busy but made time for all his clients. Once the tear down occurred, and the small delay in transferring payment, it was difficult to secure the next steps. Bill would arrive at a moment’s notice and if we scheduled a time he was not there within the window. We made every effort to be available at the soonest timeslot offered. There were times when a scheduled work didn’t occur. All we asked was to be given notice so we could respond accordingly. He rarely notified us of any changes to the arrival dates/times. By the end of the project, he was almost unreachable. I truly believe he was still trying to assist us, but was inconsistent. Preparedness – Poor: The teams that arrived hardly had all the materials or equipment they needed. They initially wore protective gear but later just came in without it. They took numerous trips to the Home Depot throughout the entire project. One asked us for trash bags, and this was hours before Bill told me he had many available for his team. The install of certain items was delayed because either the material was missing or the team member responsible for performing the work wasn’t available for the day. Efficiency – Fair: It is no question that this project could have been completed more efficiently. Several items they installed were incorrect or missing something. The sections of ceiling they repaired are a prime example. It had a bulge and tiny crack that took multiple trips to repair. The floor was unsecured in the bathroom. We believe incorrect caulk was used because it peeled off instantly even though ample time was given for it to set. In addition to the broken caulk in the bathroom, the tub did not drain properly and needed to be repaired. The wall in the adjacent laundry room does not look properly sanded and has meshing exposed. Upsides are the carpet install was wonderful. The team came in, knew exactly what to do, and did it. They said goodbye and left promptly. The lighting and plumbing all appear to function properly. The tile was installed very nicely and looks good. Despite the cost being mainly covered by insurance, we think the money could have been spent better elsewhere. Overall experience: Fairly Poor. Flood Crew has in its flyer that it makes restoration easy. They pride themselves on professionally restoring property and exceeding expectations. They state they are reliable, available, and ready. We unfortunately did not receive the characteristics described in the advertisement. We remained positive as much as possible. There may be more issues undiscovered, but we will seek other ways to remedy them. Bill says he is the owner and if he prides himself on quality, we suggest he start with his team and find members that support his cause. If you are someone researching this company, consider whether you have a desire for timely, consistent, complete and valued work done the first time around. If so, it is highly recommended you go with another company. If you can wait for the company to show up whenever they can, accept apologies for behavior that should never have occurred, have little interest in overall quality, and really like Home Depot, you may be a better client for this company than we were.

"We strive to complete jobs quickly however the insurance must review the claim and release the funds which we have no control over. That can take weeks, if we are not on top of them (calling, emailing which we provide as a courtesy) it can take much longer as the insurance carriers are also busy with their own claims, and they don't work 7 days a week like we do. While we understand, it is a tedious process, we can't drop previous clients jobsites just because payments have been made. This portion some understand and others don't, but to be fair to everyone there is a waiting period."

I was highly disappointed with this company. It took them over three months to complete work that could have been completed in 2-3 weeks. They were slow to respond to my inquiries and sometimes did not respond at all. They sometimes missed scheduled meetings and did not notify me ahead of time. Their caliber of work was inconsistent, and I had to ask them twice to come and redo certain parts of the job. Even then, we were left with shotty work. We contacted them again, they came to our house to take the lockbox and never fixed the work. They failed to give accurate timelines and did not start repair work until over a month after they had been paid by my insurance company. I will not use their services again.

I express my gratitude to Bill and his staff at Flood Crew LLC enough! A month before I sold my home they cleaned the carpets; 2 days before closing I called Bill back due to water damage to the home. Bill was onsite mitigating the water damage within 40 minutes of my call to him. They were quick and professional with their water mitigation efforts and were also GREAT with managing the repair/renovation work. He went above and beyond due to my unique situation with the home sale. Thanks Bill for your calm, kind and professional manner. I hope I never have water damage again as it is devastating BUT if I did I would use Flood Crew again in a second.... and will certainly refer them to others!

I had a pipe burst in the basement of our rental property, Flood Crew was referred by our realtor. They arrived quickly after the pipe was fixed by our plumber, demoed, and dried out the areas, even handled packing out our furniture and placing carefully in a pod storage while the work was being done. They did mold testing and made sure everything was safe, the best part was that they dealt with the insurance and we didn’t have to do anything.
