Forest Roofing

The owner, Fernando, spent time with us describing various products and made recommendations based on our specific location (under heavy Douglas fir trees). He also went into the attic to look for signs of leaks and to evaluate the condition of the plywood sheathing, and spent time on the roof to evaluate flashing, valleys, etc.. He also pointed out that there was a crack on the chimney top that would likely lead to water infiltration (we appreciated the information and we followed up and had the chimney repaired by a chimney specialist). The contractor showed up at the agreed time, accomplished the work professionally, and cleaned up the site at the completion of the work. We were very pleased with their service, willingness to listen to us, and cleanliness of the site upon completion. A few days after completion, the supervisor reviewed the quality of the work to ensure that the work met Forest Roofing’s high standards. He found two minor issues and sent a roofer back to make adjustments.

We signed a contract on May 22nd with a promise that the job would be done in July. When I never heard back I contacted them on July 8th asking for the start date. They finally wrote back on July 20th after I threatened to break the contract. They said they had already informed us of a start date "in the next month or two," which is an absurdly vague response. People have lives and need to schedule around something this major. The work finally got started on August 14th (three months later) and I think it was done well. The actual workers were great. Then they left the dumpster in my driveway for a week until I finally called and asked them why it was still there when the roof was done. Finally on August 23rd they picked up the dumpster and were completely done. While the roofing work appears to be done well, the administration side was very frustrating to deal with.

Signed a contract in September for a tear off and re-roof. Company stated they used union employees and paid union wages. One of the reasons I hired them at the inflated price. Two months after I signed the contract they tore off the roof. Left it with tarps and felt for over 3 weeks. Told Forest multiple times the tarps and felt were not covering the entire roof, at least as far as I could see on it. There were soaking wet black stains on the patio plywood from the rain damage. After pushing the issue with Forest, they replaced the plywood at their cost. They started my roof on Sunday. On Tuesday they informed me they had broken my skylight, and I would need to pay for it. After several emails back and forth, they said they would replace it but I had to pay them their entire amount due. I am paying them, and so far I haven heard back from them on replacing the sky light. I did file a complaint with the state construction board, state attorney generals office and the better business bureau. I will be contacting local unions to let them know that Forest is saying they are using union labor, when I dont believe they are. There is no proof that they ever have used any union labor on my roof.

I scheduled them to come out and clean my roof and do the maintenance. They came out went up on the roof then came down and said oh that day was just for an assessment, Over two months ago. I bought the pkg because I wanted it done before bad weather. it's still not done. We have called multiple times, left messages, actually talked to roofer, No response. I have emailed them that I guess I will just get my money back. Sad, they seem like nice folks.

Everything appears to have gone OK. There was some difficulty in scheduling due to staffing issues, which have since been corrected.

During the proposal meeting, Fernando explained his company’s process thoroughly. He went over several roofing options describing the benefits and disadvantages of each. I had to have a complete tear off on my older home – down to the original shakes, involving several layers. So, there was a lot of debris to haul away. I liked the fact that each of the Forest Roofing crew was trained to work in all aspects of a roofing project, from tear off to completion. The workers started each day on time and cleaned up well. The job took a couple of days longer than originally planned - due in part to the number of layers but mostly due to the extreme heat. My project happened to coincide with one of the weeks with several days over 100 degrees. The crew cleared it with me to start earlier in the day so they could leave before the hottest part of the day but still make progress on the project. The finished product is a beautiful roof with all the current venting, flashing and water diversion necessities.

I could not recommend Fernando and his crew more highly. He sincerely cares about making his customers happy and about doing an excellent job. He took the time to make sure we knew all our options and helped us choose the best materials for what we had in mind; we were on a budget and he was very informative about what would give us the best value for our money. His crew are incredibly hard-working and meticulous in doing precise, quality work. His work ethic and customer service are second to none, and he's a wonderful person on top of all that. I would hire Fernando again in a heartbeat.

Terrible experience, still trying to get ahold of the roofer, as upon installation - leaking occurred in the house, causing damage in the bathroom ceiling. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Very well. Our roof started leaking unexpectedly, so we contacted a few roofers that we found here on Angie's List. Forest Roofing was booked out a few weeks, but they came out immediately (on a Sunday) to do some free patch work on our roof to postpone the leaking until they could replace the roof. They were flexible with timing on the actual installation, professional, and most importantly did a nice job installing our new roof.

Fernando was excellent to work with. I got my roof done 1 week after meeting him. He's responsive and on time for all of our appointments.

Fernando is a delight to work with. He he thorough and explained to us all the problem areas on our roof. One of the many things we appreciate about Fernando is that he took pictures of problem areas on the roof so we could see for ourselves that the tiles were degrading, we had a small hole in the roof, missing tiles, etc. He also noticed our neighbor's tree was splitting from the top down and I was able to show her the picture warning her of a disaster about to fall on her house (it fell the following day through her roof). Fernando truly cares about his customers and makes sure they receive the best quality work at a fair price. I cannot say enough good things about this man. He has integrity, he's an honest man, and he has been a true blessing to us.

Everything was done as planed. The work was done on a timely manner and very well done even under some rough weather. From the time I received the estimate, throughout the follow up, and the labor, till the clean up, all was done quickly and professionally. I would recommend Forest Roofing highly for a job well done.

Overall it was a great experience. Fernando was always on time, polite, professional and knowledgeable. Our situation was considered an emergency and he did not hesitate to get to work quickly to make sure we were dry, and safe. We are beyond grateful for what Fernando and his crew at Forest Roofing did for our family!

It went very well, even with the freezing snowy weather. I was surprised that they were here when I got home from work early due to snow. The crew was very polite and professional. Fernando is very conscientious and wants to have everything exactly right for his customer. Our house has a lot of peaks and valleys so I believe it was a bit more on the challenging side. We went with Malarkey Highlander Shingles in Natural Wood. We couldn't be more happy with the end product. We would definitely recommend his service.

Even with the bad weather the work was done as described and completed on time. Very professional sales and service. All the available options including cost, pros and cons of each were explained and I was then allowed to chose what I thought was right for my situation. Other contractors just said this is what we will do and here is what it costs. I liked having options to choose from and believe I got the best solution to my roofing problem.

We bought an investment home in Portland ( we live on the east coast) and the inspection report indicated roof repairs were needed. I found Forest Roofing on Angie's List. Mr. Miranda set up an appointment to come and look at the work, but on the day, because another job was delayed, he called and asked if he could come with his crew and just do the repairs. I agreed since we were in Portland only temporarily. They came on time and we got up on the roof to discuss the work. His crew began doing some clean up of leaves while I pointed out the issues that had been identified. While Mr. Miranda and I were discussing the work I watched his crew out of the corner of my eye. They were talking with each other and finding issues, like poorly attached shingles, that were obvious when looked at, but had not been listed in the inspection that was done. After finishing discussing the work I wanted done I asked Mr. Miranda about his installers and what they were saying (they were conversing in Spanish). I then got the full information on the roof and was shown what they were talking about. I am not a roof expert, but I have replaced the roof on our primary home and once helped a friend with DYI roof repair, so I know a little. Apparently in the past an investor had done a minimal roof update with very poor workmanship and poorly selected materials. Once I saw the extent of the issues I told Mr. Miranda that I no longer wanted the repairs, but preferred to talk full replacement. Mr. Miranda told me that the existing shingles were in decent condition and he could make the repairs and the roof would be good for probably 5 more years (in other words he tried to give me what I originally asked for, not sell me a new roof). I asked to at least discuss the replacement so I could understand the costs. We discussed options and he presented an extremely cost effective selection, under $8K for the entire job. I needed to discuss the situation with my wife, who was not present, so he gave me the website of the company who made the shingles so I could look at the product line. Two days later I contacted Fernando with our selection and we set up an appointment at the house to look at proposals. He presented the one we had first discussed, then the option we had selected (more expensive), and then for comparison a higher end solution. We chose the latter because of longer shingle guarantees and the fact that Fernando was offering a 15-year warranty on the workmanship. Total cost, including removal of the old roof, $10,548. As the inspection report also called into question some of the flashing and gutters, I had him add the total replacement of all flashing and related work. The work was scheduled for the week of November 18, but due to weather issues it was not completed until two weeks later. Mr. Miranda and I communicated during that period and I was kept fully informed. The roof looks great. One other note to describe how important providing good service is to Forest Roofing. As they were leaving the job one day an apparent neighbor came over and told Mr. Miranda that he didn't like the roof and that he talked to "the owner" and that the owner wanted it changed. Fernando was concerned and called me in Virginia and asked what he could do to make it right. He offered to re-do the roof to make us happy. I had to assure him that there was no issue, that I had no idea who the person was and certainly had not told anyone we were unhappy (a daughter in the area was looking out for our interests). We love the roof and are confident in the quality of both the product and the workmanship.

He came quickly within a few days of my call. He was honest about what needed to be done and how we could plan for contingencies. He gave me a solid easy to understand estimate. He took care of getting me on the schedule within a month (other companies were months out). He is a contractor as well as a roofer and believe me that could save you tons of $$ as houses hide damage that you can't see until the roof is off and you want the same crew who is already there to be able to keep on working rather than having to stop and start again finding a licensed contractor. He was great about not hiding costs and what he quoted was what i paid. He brought a trailer and was pretty good about cleanup. He went over my property with a magnet rake and there was minimal mess left over when he was done. Fernando was great! Personable, flexible easy to talk to and not talking down to me or trying to sell me crap I didn't need. I am proud to recommend Forest Roofing. If you are worried about your roof there is no one better to provide class A service.
