Four Seasons Custom Decks and Fences

DO NOT hire this company. I hate my $13,000 deck!! Worse experience I ever had with a contractor. As a 70 year old woman acting alone, I contracted with Four Seasons to replace a wooden deck with same. A deposit was made for 1/2 in June 2023 with a start date of August. After that date passed with their delays, I requested to cancel. They had my money. I was assured with a new start date and agreed. The deck wasn’t completed until October 2023. The deck has issues. Pieces falling off at screw points, bowing and lifting boards. I emailed them this July with a very nice request for repairs along with photos of my concerns. No demands, no foul language, no hurry. Can you fix this? The phone call I received from Don Stanley was not pleasant. He was argumentative and defensive of the workmanship and wanted to charge for repairs. I did say, “that’s ridiculous”. He claims I was rude and because of that he could but would not replace the board for free. Who does that ? What a childish and immature way to run a business let alone a way for a grown man to act. He then said, “ I’m done’ and hung up. I called back and was threatened. I connected with Mrs. Stanley and was told it costs too much to send someone over and they didn’t have a crew for small jobs. I told her I would pay for the repairs, I pleaded. I just wanted this project done. She hung up. So what is it? Don’s world, Don’s way. No compromise no cordial, let’s make everyone happy. Don never inspected my completed deck. He’s complacent and only interested in the payout. You probably will never get service after the sale. Don Stanley is a miserable man with an angry disposition. Spiteful. He lacks in customer service, customer satisfaction and people skills. Veteran owned. Wow!! My veteran family members are appalled by your business practices. It’s been said, being a veteran doesn’t give you license to be a jerk. The military should be ashamed of you. Look elsewhere for your deck and fence. Read other reviews.

The work was done 8 months ago, but we still are very unhappy with parts of the finished fence, which we look at every day. I have only ever written one other review (very positive for our new roof). The fence cuts off 50 square feet of our property at each end, including several small bushes we had planted. One end was angled over a length of 20 feet so that it ended up 5 feet inside our property at the end (50 sq ft long triangle). The other end was attached to the side of our shed and cut off a triangular section of our property corner behind the shed (50 sq ft). We were told after installation that they had to avoid tree roots, and that they were not interested in discussing any modifications. We took them at their word and paid them, but we recently contacted another fence company who said "any self-respecting fence company will drill through tree roots." This company estimated it would cost $2000 to redo the two sections properly (including 15 feet of additional fence behind the shed). We hate to have to spend this much more on the fence, but our long term happiness is at stake.

The deck was constructed in two days looks very nice with our house.

Excellent, start to finish. We waited about a year after the initial estimate due to the cost, but it was worth the wait. We obtained other estimates and they were pretty much the same. The service was excellent. Mr. Stanley was in touch with us through the whole process. Highly recommend. We want to use them again for other projects.

Every part of our experience from start to finish with Mr Stanley and his crew was better than expected. I can't recommend them highly enough. The expected start date we were given was spot on, and the project took 5 days(which felt incredibly fast given the scope of the project). They were extremely professional, timely, and the quality of their craftsmanship is obvious in every detail. Mr Stanley communicated with us regularly, and we never had any questions or concerns about the project. He and his crew were also gracious to our 2 year old son(who was enamored with watching them work), smiling and waving with him, and Mr Stanley even surprised him with a little tool set- all things they could have easily not done and it would have still been a great experience, but made it even more so.

What a great experience. Four Seasons crew were awesome. very professional and on time. Don provided an exact quote of the work to be done. I asked Don to change my quote 4-5 times as my ideas changed trying to imaging our deck. Don was very happy to update our estimate until we were happy with our design. It turned out better then we could have wished. What a hard working, honest crew. Would hire Four Seasons again in a heartbeat. And could not give a better recommendation to someone looking for a deck or fence. Just look at their facebook page and all their work After building a new home, and dealing with countless contractors, I have to say that Four Seasons is a shining example of what customer service should be. Don met us at our home and we came up with a design and deck product that we were very happy with. He submitted an estimate a day later and we commissioned him to do the work. It couldn't of gone better. We are so pleased with the outcome and craftsmanship.

Exactly as planned in with great quality. Don was very honest and straightforward when giving options as well. Note that I can't comment on price, as I simply found and went with the best, and didn't look around, and I'm very satisfied.

They came out very quickly after calling them for a quote and options. They got the job done before the snow started in MI. The job was done within five days and good communication during the project. Would highly recommend them.

They did an outstanding job. The original deck was built when our house was being constructed and the builder cut some corners. Four Seasons corrected our builder's shortcomings, which improved the deck's stability. Their workmanship is first rate and they did an excellent of cleaning up the job site. I would recommend them to anyone.

Even though Don and his crew traveled from Plymouth IN to Niles MI each day, they were punctual and professional. They thoroughly cleaned my driveway and worksite at the end of each day. My deck had been partially built, and I asked Don to complete the build, using my existing design. He managed to do exactly that, and then some! I am very pleased with the end result. He was very good at communicating with me throughout the project. I would absolutely recommend them, and will not hesitate to use them again in the future.

We had a great experience with Don and Janice. They were extremely professional - arrived on time for appointments and kept in touch frequently by phone and email, answered all of our questions and showed us samples of all the materials. They scheduled the work several weeks out and were able to fit us in a few days early. <br /> Don told us they would take down the old deck and put up the new one the same day, and that's exactly what they did. They arrived at 8:00 AM (on time!) and worked all day. They cleaned up the work site and driveway so well that you couldn't even tell they had been there! <br /> The materials they use are high quality and the new deck is so much more solid than the old one. The new deck also came with a workmanship warranty and manufacturers warranties for the materials. I found Four Seasons Custom Decks and Fences on Angie's List and I would absolutely use them again. <br />

Words cannot describe how happy we are with hiring Don and his crew to build a deck for us. Out of several estimates that I got, Don's was not the very cheapest but not the most expensive either. It was obvious right away that he was the most professional, as well as the most experienced though and that is why I hired him. <br />    He and his crew came out on time, set up and worked for two days building the nicest deck that we could ask for. The neighbor's all noticed the same about him and his crew's neatness and professionalism and all have come over to see the fine work that was done. He drew up plans for the deck and dimensions etc. and was very open to our changes. I'm trying now to think of other work that I could hire Four Seasons for again. I was very impressed with the punctuality and professionalism of everyone. They arrived by 7 am and worked 12 hour days. The quality of work is excellent. We couldn't be happier. <br />

Contacted Don, scheduled appointment for estimate. Explained to him EXACTLY what I wanted (a fence that was impossible for my problem, mouthy dog could not see under, over or through). He was professional, on-time and did exactly what I wanted. The fence is beautiful, sturdy and does exactly what is was supposed to do. Unfortunately my dog didn't quite get the idea to not bark at what he can't see. << >> He worked right along with his crew. It took two days for the tear-down and rebuild. Not only did they clean up afterwards, they also cleaned up a huge mess left from a previous "professional" hired for another project. The final bill was a tad higher than the estimate, but through no fault of Four Seasons. When the original estimate was given I had some posts that we were planning on using. When construction day came, we found out my "professional" had used some of those materials. I am extremely pleased with my fence and with Four Seasons. Would definitely 1) hire them again, and 2) refer people to them. Now..........if only someone could teach my dog to stop barking at what is on the other side of that fence.............................. :(

Very professional work. We used maintenance free grey deck boards with a white vinyl railing on the outside of the deck. We needed to have the landscaper put weed protected tarp along with gravel under the deck so Four Seasons had to frame one day, skip a day for landscapers and return next day to finish. It took 2 complete days. Material costs were at $6,500. Labor at $3,500 for 2 guys. No problems. Nice friendly hard working guys. <br />

We have received oh's and ah's from every visitor we've had since it was finished. Looks great. Very proud of it and the professional job they did. I would have no reservation about recommending Four Seasons Custom Decks (574) 936-1968 to anyone. <br />   

Don was very professional at all stages, including being responsive to email queires between the estimate and work dates.  He gave me estimates for several types of replacement materials.  I followed his suggestion to use premium treated pine.  Looks terrific.  A really solid business.  Highly recommended. <br />

Of all the contractors we contacted, Mr. Stanley was the most professional.  He was very organized upon his arrival at our home, had all tools and information necessary to obtain the information to develop a proposal for us.  His web site is also very professionally done and was very helpful to us in refining the details of what we wanted.  After the initial proposal we decided to make some major changes to the design and he was willing to make a second visit to give us the confidence that we were communicating clearly what we wanted.  Both of his proposals were the best value and we decided to proceed with the updated design.  It took 3 weeks for the job to start and it was started on time and was finished on schedule.  Mr. Stanley and his crew were very detail oriented and meticulous, polite and professional, and provided a high quality job.  The bottom line is we are very happy with our new deck and have no reservations about recommending Four Seasons Decks and Fences. <br />
