Furko Construction

The "roof repair" cost me $4,275.00 and the leak into my bathroom was worse before he fixed the roof. He did do a great job in painting my garages but wanted t charge me extra to paint the side door and the side window because I didn't specify that it was part of the garage when I hired him. LOL. He painted 4 pieces of wood which made of a section of fence the wrong color. But then I fiqured out the wrong color of paint on the fence and the not painting the garage door was because he ran out of the brown paint. I had the roof leak fixed by a very reputable roofing company and it was 1/4 of what Furko charged to do nothing. Needless to say I won in court. Furko now has a nice judgement against him which I am sure he will never pay. Would I recommend him or hire him again H*** NO!!!! The 1st picture is how my leak looked inside my bathroom when I hired Furko and the second picture was how it looked AFTER he "fixed" the leak and I paid him $4,275.00

Doug was affable and punctual and gave us a reasonable estimate for the job. Unfortunately, we saw very little of him after that: his workers (also very friendly and punctual) openly admitted to us that they had very little idea about the project they were working on, that not much had been explained to them. It was difficult to communicate with Doug about design/issues that came up since that communication almost never happed in person, only via text, and it became clear that the project was not clearly thought out before being initiated (by us or by Doug, although we would have hoped that as the professional, he would have foreseen some of the issues that arose). Ultimately, we asked him to stop working on the project without its being completed after his team drilled into the basement concrete without covering vents or warning us to do so (he later told us he thought he would have been "smart enough" to foresee the preparation needed for him to install a drain in the basement), resulting in a thick layer of concrete dust covering all of our possessions throughout our whole home, necessitating hours of cleaning on our part. Since then, having found other non-Angie's List contractors to complete the unfinished work, every single one of them have offered harsh critiques Furko Construction's planning and execution, which is of course very frustrating for us to hear. My real critique though is not of Furko Construction, but of Angie's List: multiple times now we have employed a top rated contractor from Angie's List and that contractor has been (although all very friendly and prompt with estimates) a mistake. The contractors who have done good work for us have warned that Angie's List is deceptive in its ratings/reviews and that businesses can pay for the standing they have, corrupting the idea that good work leads to a good rating or prominent placement. I'm not sure what merit there is to this idea, but we will not be using Angie's List again after this experience. Furko Construction means well, but ultimately does not plan well, follow through, or take responsibility for mistakes.

The side porch turned out beautiful! Doug listened to what I wanted done and he made his suggestions... regarding the materials, the railings, and the steps. The price he quoted was very reasonable and fair. The job was completed within the timeframe that was quoted. Doug and his crew are very professional, friendly, and did a great job. I will give them an A+! I will be hiring Furko Construction again in the future.

Crews worked almost three full days with only short lunch breaks. Shed looks like brand new and repairs were a lot cheaper than having to demolish, add foundation and new shed. Garage door framing looks great with new recently installed garage doors. Crew let us know when they would arrive each day and were prompt and they did great job of cleaning up. Foreman, Mo, was excellent communicator. Very pleased and would highly recommend. Thank you to Doug and all the workers!

This is a followup to the former review. After the work was completed, several days later there was a hard rain. Rain water was pouring into both newly installed windows. Workers came a few days later and added caulking to the windows, More rain through the windows and workers again caulked, After the third rain, a tarp was put up on the back of the house but it was not tight enough to withstand the high winds and tore, The next day, a larger tarp was installed and was drilled into the wood of the house. In the meantime, since it did not seem that the cause of the problem was known. the window company was contacted by us and they sent a troubleshooter to see what the problem might be. Doug Furko, the contractor, was present at this meeting on 1/15/19 and agreed to get to the bottom of this. He has had some personal and professional issues to deal with and also the frigid weather is not in our favor. But here it is 1/23/19 and there is a blue tarp blocking the light from the entire rear of our house. It is like dusk inside, not to mention unsightly. Doug Furko is very personable, polite, and will return calls but this situation is difficult because we have a paid a price and things are not right. There is inconvenience and we do not know when and what is going to happen.

Doug and his crew worked hard and completed a challenging roof replacement within the time I expected. Of particular note was that we had a party within a few weeks of their start date. They worked late into the evening on several days to be sure that the work was done and the yard was cleaned up in time. I highly recommend Furko Construction. Also, with all the heavy rains we've had since the work was done, there have been no leaks or reasons for call-backs.

I needed a barrier to protect my exterior wall (wood) from the ground. Doug's crew removed old debris and built a concrete barrier/curb at the base of the wood wall. Doug's crew did a first rate job with the work and the cleanup.

The service was excellent. The two men on my crew Mike and Travis are highly skilled and easy to communicate with and responsive with any concerns or questions. You want to feel comfortable with the crew doing work in your home and these men are highly respectful. They were always on time, highly efficient and did an excellent cleanup.

Doug Furko was nothing short of a life saver for us. We had an emergency situation as a small portion of the house was discovered to have been damaged by termites. This section of the house, which included some major bay windows, had to be rebuilt and/or replaced. Doug was there, carefully and daily giving us updates on estimates of the damage discovered and what he recommended could be done. His team completed the work under trying weather conditions, in a timely fashion, and the costs were about half of what we had expected them to be. Every one of his workers we encountered was friendly, helpful, and professional. Moreover, he was able to save the windows (termites don't eat windows, although other builders told us we would have to replace them). The new part is termite-free, beautiful, even elegant. We will be forever grateful that we found him and that he could do the work for us.

First off, I found this company on Angie's List. Hired Furko Construction to do some painting on the front of the house prior to having siding done. While prepping the trim to be painted Doug (the owner) noticed the top windows were in terrible shape (ready to fall out). Had a guy that said he knew how to do windows take care of the job. Well, the building inspector wasn't impressed, nor was Doug when he seen what wasn't done. Today, Doug and Rick corrected the situation, actually I believe above and beyond what was required. The painting looks awesome as does the windows. Plan on having additional work done by them. To coin the phrase "Seabees Can Do!"

Doug was professional and did everything he said he would. There was some minor miscommunication towards a few details. I would recommend him to a friend. <br />

I hired Furko Construction to replace gutters in the front and back of my garage, as well as the back of my house.  I also had the wood and fascia replaced on both sides of my house and garage where the brick wall meets the roof.  I found that Mr. Furko is very knowledgeable and professional.  I can tell he has been in the contractor/construction business for some time.  The work took roughly two days to complete, which is what I had expected.  The work was done the way I wanted it done, so that in the end it is unnoticeable, and appears as though the gutters and fascia have always been part of a house that is roughly 70 years old.  This is the result I wanted.  His crew also continued to work through a mild summer rain, which did surprise me.  I had expected the crew to take shelter either in my garage or their vehicles.  I have had used Furko Construction for other jobs in the past, and I have always been pleased with craftsmanship, and the end results. <br /> <br /> <br />

Doug was excellent from start to finish. He came out for an estimate shortly after I called. He was upfront with what he thought we needed, listened to my concerns about the project, and explained in detail what he would do. His price was very fair, and the work was very good quality. The day of the project he walked me through again what he would do, and he and his crew answered a few questions I had for them while they were performing the work. They didn't finish on the first day, and came back in the morning the next day (a Saturday, which I appreciated) to finish. Afterwards, they cleaned up and left our porch cleaner than when they arrived. I was very happy with Doug, and would use/recommend him for future projects.  <br />

<p>I received a very quick response from Doug to the initial request for an estimate. Doug came to my home, took time to answer my questions and he had good ideas as to how to handle the project. Doug got back to me the next day with an estimate.  The estimate was less than the others I had contacted. He worked me in to his schedule quickly, and did a very nice job. Doug and his crew worked fast, hard and new what they were doing.  The quality of his work was very good and I rate him and his crew highly. When they finished everything was cleaned up. I highly recommend Doug and plan on using him for future projects.</p> <br />

The work was done well and professionally. My only problem with Furko Construction is that the owner isn't as responsive on initial contact as I might like. I understand that they're busy, and I'm willing to discount the slow follow up on this basis. The work has been completed satisfactorily, promptly and at a fair price. <br />

I messaged Doug on a Saturday to see if he was interested in completing our paint job (we have worked with him in the past for a roofing project, deck install and a door installation). He got right back to me and said his guys were in between jobs and could start on Monday. We were very happy about this:). His crew painted all trim, window header and sills, foundation masonry and decorative sunburst + woodworking. We picked the colors and they carried our everything we wanted. They did make one small mistake w/ the detail, but as soon as I brought it to Doug's attention, it was fixed. This was not an easy job, our house is an old, TALL, 3,000-square foot North Side brick row house that needed some wood trim repairs. All four sides have trim work and detail that needed painted, as it is no longer attached to another house. <br /> They did a great job, as always. We will definitely work with them for future projects.

Doug (Furko) was upfront and honest with us through the whole process. This roof had been a problem for us since moving in to the house 2 years ago (it had been patched and patched and patched for years--the house was built in 1900), and we knew eventually that the "band aid" roof fixes wouldn't be enough...SO Doug & company came by to fix it the right way. They ended up taking off the entire existing deck, replacing the entire roof and replacing the deck. Because they did more work, the cost was higher than the original estimate, but that is to be expected. Project was done well and quickly--the guys were there everyday working until the job was done. <br /> This is our second time working with Furko Construction---the first was to have a basement door installed. Doug gets back to you quickly, he's an honest guy, he can fix up/remodel just about anything and his crew does great work. His prices are reasonable. We plan on using his company for future projects as well.  <br /> <br />

Quick response to initial request for an estimate.   He came out on a Sunday during a busy time, took time to answer our questions and got back the next day with an estimate.   He worked us in to his schedule fairly quickly, and did a very nice job for quite a bit less $$ than some others we had contacted. I wouldn't hesitate to have Doug do some other work for us. <br />

I've used them before. It wasn't fixturing or anything. It was just the labor. We paid for all the fixtures. They had to take out an old bathtub and redo a wall and things like that. I was pleased. They had done a sun room for me before and we were very satisfied. So we called them back. They're local. They're not too far from where we live. Their men all live in the area also. That was one of the reasons I was going to use them. Then, when I saw them on Angie's List, it made me decide for sure that I was going to use them. They're fine. They come in and do the work. We were satisfied. There were one or two little things I wasn't happy about. Their pricing was fair. I didn't get any other bid because two other companies that I did call never returned my phone call. The quality of work was very good. When I call him he comes out.

The front gutter on my house came crashing down due to the rain, snow, ice, and extreme changes in temperature in January 2015.  The temperature changed from roughly 35 degrees to -5 degrees in 24 hours in January 2015.  I believe that this was too much for the old gutter to handle.  As it came down, it became very twisted and also sent large pieces of ice across my front yard. <br /> <br /> I contacted Doug Furko, as I have had his company perform work on my house in the past year.  He was very responsive to my inquiry, and came to my house within 24 hours to personally survey what work needed to be done.  He scheduled and performed the work within a week when there was a clear day and the temperature was slightly above freezing.  I am appreciative that he was able to schedule the work to be done as fast as he did, and that he and his crew were willing to perform this work in February with what I would consider less than favorable conditions, as there was still a good deal of snow and ice not only on my roof, but also on the ground as well.  In all, he and his men replaced the wood, the aluminum the protects the wood, and the front gutter that had come off the house.  Although I was not planning on replacing the downspout, he did point out that there was a point the the back of the downspout where the seems had burst.  Although I was not expecting the extra cost, I did appreciate his advice as  I think it did make sense to replace everything at once. <br /> <br /> Although the cost was slightly higher than another estimate I received, I think it was worth it given the short time frame that the work was done, the less than ideal weather, and that Doug himself did some of the work.  Once spring finally arrives, I very well may have him replace the other older gutters and perform some additional work. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
