I had Elizabeth come out and give us an estimate for our installing hardwood floors in our kitchen and asked her to provide an estimate for refinishing the existing floors.

It took a while for Elizabeth to get me the estimates, she was very busy and was having problems with email. But when I got it it was very good and detailed and I thought it was a fair price.

I had to wait for a while to get the floors installed (the floors had not arrived and some plumbing still needed to be completed in the kitchen. I waited for the floors to acclimate in the home before I called Elizabeth again. I was concerned because of the response time, but I decided to go ahead, her price was good and she was good when she did respond.

When I finally arranged a time to install the floors, Elizabeth and here crew did a good job, they were out here for two days and they finished installing the hardwood floors. Because we were thinking of refinishing the floors, Elizabeth suggested that we wait to install our transition flooring. That was not a good suggestion, because I realized that I would not be able to refinish the floors until later in the year.

Once I made this realization, I called Elizabeth and asked if she could come back to install the transition pieces (there are about 3). I have tried now three times to get her to come back and she has not come back. Two times she was scheduled to come and she did not show up and the third time, I rescheduled and she mentioned she could come another day, but she never came and never returned my phone call when I asked what happened.

I would have rated their work an A or B, there are some parts of the floor that started to bubble (but I'm not sure where that is from), but the most disappointing part has been not to be able to get the work finished. The transition pieces are siting in my garage, not installed. I would have used her for the refinishing AND for some additional repairs, BUT not returning my calls and not finishing this small part of the work has made me not want to use them for additional work, this is unfortunate, because I think I selected them based on some decent reviews here, but I'm just not happy with incomplete flooring.

My husband and I installed hardwood floors in our house and ran out of steam when it came to completing the last room. Elizabeth was able to give me a quote over the phone since we already had all the materials and really just needed it installed. The crew was running a little late due to getting lost in the morning. The job took 1.5 days. They did a terrific job and cleaned up very well.

Contacted Elizabeth from Gamboa's Hardwood. She came out the same day and was so easy and friendly to work with . She was flexible and professional as we had to change our start date several times due to other sub-contractors. They were on time and finished with the job exactly as estimated. They were neat, cleaning up after themselves as the job progressed. The floors are beautiful and we couldn't be happier. We would recommend Gamboas Hardwood to anyone who wants a beautiful hardwood floor.

Elizabeth and her crew did a fantastic job.
It was a great experience with Elizabeth she was flexible and responsive.
When I noticed something I didn't like or any imperfections no excuses were made or trying to get out of the work the team was willing to do them.
By far my favorite contractor to deal with during my renovations.

Elizabeth's crew members Jose and Rodolfo are courteous, clean, and meticulous with their work.
They did a great job at flushing out the existing hardwood floors into the new area. People can't tell where the new and the old began.

I also appreciated Elizabeth giving her design opinion and taking pride in what she deliveries. I lot of contracts I dealt with didn't have the same mindset. For her it wasn't about how fast she could get paid she was more about delivering a great product.

We could not move out from the apartment so they were helping us move furniture from one room to another . When we had delays because of us not having the material on site in time they were very professional.Same when they needed to come one hour later than the schedule I had to put Accusticork 1/2 inch thick per condo rules and that was costing $ 2.5 per foot extra just in material and an additional day of work The suppliers recommended by Gamboa were very good The owner is Elizabeth Gamboa and she is very professional Ask for the team of Jose Barella ,Rodolfo and Charlino. They work good together and did an excellent job The apartment is at Ocean Terrace in Rancho Palos Verdes and in this SLOW market a 1400sqft 2 bedroom 2 bath sells for aprox $ 520000

Gamboa's Hardwood Flooring did an excellent job refinishing the floors throughout my house. I had already removed all the carpet, padding, tack strips and molding myself. The floor that was revealed was in pretty bad shape with many water damaged spots. Gamboa started by repairing several broken boards, and then allowed a week for the new boards to acclimate. When they returned they took care to put plastic around all the things that remained in my closets. They then spent 1 ? days sanding the floor, replaced a couple more boards, and smoothed wood filler throughout. They put stain samples down on the floor to help me select a color. Then it was stain 1 day, and semi-gloss finish each of the next 3 days. The floor looks great! I do have to admit that if you look really close and really scrutinize, you can find a couple of what appears to be faint swirl marks left by the sander. And I can still see some of the discolored areas through the stain but that?s my fault for not picking a darker stain; I knew that might happen. If you just walk into the house and look at the floor from a standing position, however, it looks absolutely beautiful. All in all, compared to how awful they looked to start out with, it is amazing how well they were able to get them to look. The Gamboa crew took great attention to detail. They showed up on time, and worked diligently all day. I would defiantly recommend them.

Elizabeth checked in with me everyday, which I really appreciated- if only all my contractors could be so good. It took a bit longer than I expected but my floors look great. There were a couple small issues that came up during the install but Elizabeth made sure they were fixed promptly. I would definitely recommend them to others who are looking for floor installation and use them for my next one. Great job guys!

They were very responsive and were flexible in working with us. We had a great experience with them. There was nothing to dislike about them. However, the floors weren?t matching with the rest of the house. They were great and we would use their services again.

BEWARE - ALMOST SET OUR HOME ON FIRE. The worker sent did not start on the day indicated, but arrived the following day. On the second day, he left a cardboard box of oil-soaked rags (with stain) in our back room. At midnight, my fiance and I were awakened by smoke because the box caught fire. We moved the smoking box to the backyard, and then soaked them with the hose. The house still smelled like thick chemical smoke the next day. We finally got rid of the smell, but informed the worker of his mistake in handling the rags. He apologized, but did not tell his boss about what happened. I spoke to Elizabeth on Monday (the day when the work was to be completed), and she apologized as well. Our house could have caught fire, and this could have been a serious tragedy for our family. In the end, no discount for the hazard to our family, and the work completed wasn't that great. They installed a threshold that was not even the same type of wood (floors are douglas fir, and the threshold is pine), so the color of the floor and the threshold does not match.
Response from Gamboa's Hardwood Floors
"DEAR MEMBER,I'M SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE I DID APOLOGIZE TO YOU AND I KNOW IT COULD IT BE A BIG DISASTER LIKE YOU MENTION IN YOUR COMMENT,BUT I'M SORRY NOT GIVING YOU A DISCOUNT I DO RECALL I WENT TO FINISH SOMEBODY ELSE JOB THAT IT WAS INCOMPLETED.YOU ALSO MENTIONED TO ME THAT YOU WANTED THE JOB TO BE FINISHED A.S.A.P SO I DID AND ALSO RECALL NOT CHARGING YOU WHAT NORMALLY WE CHARGE TO SAND AND REFINISH THE BASEBOARDS AND WINDOW FRAMES.ITS A LOT OF DETAIL,I DID ASK IF EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD BEFORE I GOT PAID AND YOU SAID EVERYTHING WAS GOOD.ONCE AGAIN ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES AND SORRY FOR THIS BAD EXPERIENCE ."

Elizabeth was efficient and courteous, calling to confirm appointments and following up. She and her team were always prompt (although the start day was pushed back a day due to their truck breaking down - Elizabeth was apologetic). The job took place over three days and the floors look wonderful.

They did a good job. They had great customer service. They came out and did the work, however I think that I need an additional coat on my floors. The price was great. I had a great experience with Gamboa's.

Elizabeth came on time and did two estimates: one for a few rooms and one for the whole house. We ended up refinishing floors for the whole house because their price was competitive and the reviews on Angie's List made us feel confident in their work. The work took about a week to complete. Elizabeth was usually reachable on her cell phone and returned all calls whenever we had to leave messages. A couple of times the crew was over an hour late. We left them a key after that and had no more problems. The work was done cleanly and competently. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the Gamboa crew did not tell us we needed to install a new shoe base (the tiny strip of molding at the bottom of baseboards) in the living room to cover the unfinished part after they pulled up the carpet. We thought the baseboards just needed to be repainted. After talking to a handyman, we had the shoe base installed later by a different company. Also, there are splatters of varnish on the wall in the dining room, which we did not see until we moved in. We will paint that over ourselves. That said, the floors in our house are now beautiful. They are gorgeous! They are the star of the show. Other contractors, picky family members, friends--everyone compliments us on the floors. We walk around the house and cannot believe that the floor is the original, chewed-up one from before. Phenomenal work.

The job was done efficiently and in a timely manner. The workman and workmanship was outstanding. The finished product is absolutely beautiful. Elizabeth, the lady in charge, was there daily to see that the project was going well. During the project, we inadvertently dented a significant portion of the floor in the den, and she told us not to worry, and the floor was ripped up and new flooring installed. She did not charge us for this but it took another day to complete the project because of this.

I called Gamboa, based on the high recommendation here. Elizabeth came to my house and was the only company that gave an estimate (out of 4) that pulled up every corner of the existing carpet to see, as best they could, what was underneath. I was really impressed with how thorough they were. Their price was very fair and they are good people. The first thing that happened, back in December, was ripping up the existing carpet. We saw then that the previous owners had done a really strange job with the floor underneath and we would need to lay down about 1/3 new wood - which none of us expected. Because my existing floors in the rest of the house are "old timber," in order to match I had to get more old timber. I found an unbelievable place in San Francisco, Mike Wilson of Restoration Timber, who spent a lot of time with me to get just the right match. Elizabeth and her guys are awesome, but for old timber, it seems best to go to the people who have access to many lumberyards around the country as it can be really tough to match. Over January and February, we spent a lot of time ripping up pieces of the existing floor and sending them to Restoration Timber to try to match the wood. In late February, Elizabeth and her guys came back and laid in the new "old timber" and it was much lighter than the original - noticeably so. Elizabeth and I were both wondering if we should live with it...but then she suggested bleaching the floor so that it would match better. This was a good idea. It doesn't match entirely, but apparently matching existing floor is incredibly difficult. I am very happy with the floor and with Gamboa. Her guys in particular are very kind and conscientious. If I were to give advice on doing a wood floor underneath an existing carpet - if you don't know what is below, you won't know how long it will take or how much it will cost until you get the carpet up and start investigating. I also HIGHLY recommend Restoration Timber, and I will submit a report for them as well.

They did an excellent job. I wouldn't be able to find the repairs if I didn't know where the damage had been. I was a little disappointed that some of the stain due to water damage remained, but overall I'm very happy with their work. They were prompt in giving me an estimate, they did the work quickly and neatly and it looks great. I asked them to keep the same floor shade, which of course had darkened with age, and they did. My son had to meet them to give them access to the apartments and they arranged that with him. The cost estimate wasn't the lowest I got - but it was close.

This company is wonderful. Elizabeth came out to give me an estimate, had her men do the work in a timely fashion and went 200% out of her way to help me, a first-time homeowner. She graciously even let me borrow her Costco card so I could go there to get a washer and dryer! These are kind, trustworthy, good people. The men were young and sweet and just darling. They did way more work than they bargained for and I am a very satisfied customer. I do have a few suggestions for anyone wanting to hire them (and you should hire them!): they did not present me with many stains to choose from. I was hoping and naturally expecting that like my local hardware store, they would show me a panel of various stains I could get (hardware store shows like 20 or 40!); they only brought 4 types of stain colors! in cans! and ultimately insisted on showing me the stains on my newly sanded floor. yikes! but that was fine. I didn't like any of the 4 stains and so asked them to mix 2/3 red mahogany with 1/3 gunsmoke. they did. it looks especially good on my douglas fir and sort of generic but still good on the oak (each wood responds to the stain differently - so that was the dilemna. If I only had the oak, I would have chosen the red mahogany but that didn't look right on the douglas fir .... I digress..) Okay, so I had them come back to make a repair in the entrance hallway and they did not remember to nor did they come prepared to properly stain the fixed board (which they did not charge me for) so they stained it only red mahogany and it looks bad next to the red of the floor (it really sticks out). they were going to fix it but never did. I could call today and I know Elizabeth would send them out instantly to fix it, but I just put a rug over it. So, my advice would be to pick out your stain well in advance and on your own at your local hardware store. I also would be happier if my floors had one more coat of polyurithane. Gamboa's does put 3 coats on, which is good. Also know that you will have to repaint your floorboards and wash your walls because they get a very thin layer of sawdust on them. They even got me a plumber at a good rate to put back the sink and toilet they had to take out to rebuild my bathroom floor. Gamboa's really went above and beyond the call of duty,

Overall went very well. Many areas were badly damaged by dog nail scratches. The results are great - floors look good, can't see scratches, the color matched the other rooms in the house. The did a good job cleaning up afterwards (touching up wall paint, even areas that needed it before they arrived), vacuumed, etc. The job took a few days longer than estimated originally and when they moved the furniture out of the rooms that they were going to be working on, it was alittle chaotic (stuff piled/shoved in a room without much organization). But overall it was a great job and we are very satisfied and would definitely hire them again.

Gamboa did an exceptional job. They matched the color and the wood perfectly. They are polite, courteous, friendly and respectful. They also had the best prices by far of any company and we got quotes from 7 places. I would highly recommend them.
