They chose to replace the lift station first and then come back and do the lid. We discussed that there would be additional labor as a result and he said they would not charge the labor the second time. They sent a different person out to do the lid and they charged labor, and asked my wife to pay by check. When I got home and saw the bill, I tried to contact them to discuss. Mr. McKinney will not call back despite promises from the person answering the phone. Very unprofessional.
Response from Gary McKinney Plumbing & Sewer
"When I cam out and looked at the project originally, I told you that we would have to order the pump and the lid and that the pump would be here several days before the lid. I stated that it would be great if we could do both at the same time, to save you some labor charges. You then stated that you would just replace the lid yourself when it came and that you wanted us to go ahead and get the pump replaced so that your downstairs restroom would function. I explained to you that in order to replace the lid, the entire pump would have to be disconnected again and that it was nearly the same difficulty level as replacing the pump. You then decided to have us make the 2 trips to replace them at separate times. I am sorry that you feel like you were over charged, but we only charged for the time we were at your house. I did not charge for the time it took me to find the lid which was very difficult, since there was no lid at all to compare it to."

Josh was the best! Gary even checked up on us after it was done to make sure we were happy. Gary runs a very good business and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a plumber that is caring and professional.
What started as a 5-star experience has sadly become a 1-star experience and a recommendation to not do business with this company. It has to do with communication and honesty and follow-up. We had a great experience with Gary's crew when fixing some plumbing issues at a rental property we invested in about a year and 1/2 ago. They were timely, they did solid work, the price was reasonable, and the quote, invoicing and payment process was easy.
Cut to 3 months later and we had gone out of town for work for 5 months. Our adult daughter was house sitting. The temperature dial on our shower broke and we told her to call Gary. He sent someone out who wanted to take the part away to do some research, but we had already done the research and knew that the thermostat needed to be replaced. It would've been (was, ultimately by another plumber) about a 1-hour job.
Even though our daughter asked the plumber on-site to not go do any research, he took off and started making calls and visits to figure out how to do what we'd already said needed to be done. We never heard back, so we had another plumber come and do the job... that was until we received a bill for $170 for the plumber's time to do research we didn't need performed.
Originally the bill was coming to our daughter's boyfriend (who signed for the quote visit), and when the first one arrived, I called long-distance to talk to them to explain the bill amount was bogus and we'd pay for the house-call. I left 2 messages and never got a reply. When we got back, I got another bill, finally in my name, and called them twice before speaking to a gal in their office and re-explained what had happened. She said she would have Gary call me back to discuss and we left it at that. He never called back... I don't know why, I was nothing but courteous and professional, and felt it was totally fair to pay for the house-call. We planned on doing years of business with this man and his company.
Now it's months later and I've had to leave town again to care for an elderly family member out of state, and now my daughter sends me a picture of a bill... the bill that I never got the call back on has been turned over to a collection agency. Unbelievable! No calls back and instead of facing me and discussing what happened, he just writes off our family and our business and sends the bill to collections.
I run my own small business, and I would never do this to a customer, so I'm sad to be writing this review. This guy is willing to lose lifetime customers - not only me, but my family and friends born, raised and still living in Joplin over what amounts to $110. It's petty, incredibly rude, and bad business. I don't recommend hiring Gary McKinney plumbing even though there work is solid, because their backbone is not.
.He quickly identified the problem and went over some options for new sump pump. He then went and purchased one for me, brought it back and replaced it. Worked very quickly and got new pump installed. Very professional and responded in a timely matter when I called for appointment. I have used Gary McKinney Plumbing in the past and will do so in the future if other problems occur.

My sump pump which is under my house had stopped working. They crawled under to check it out. The float was stuck and their adjusted it and it started working again. They only charged me $25 even though they had to crawl under the house which is not easy. They were very polite and right on time. I will call them again when I have a plumbing problem.

At first the man couldn't fix the problem at all. Then told me he needed to go and get replacement parts that would cost nearly $200. I asked him to just go back to where there was a small leak on the shower side. At first he could not fix that at all but finally go the water to shut off. Later it was leaking on the inside. Very unsatisfied with this work.
"Taking care of our customers is of utmost importance to us at Gary McKinney Plumbing LLC. It seems as if we have failed in this case, and that is unacceptable. We have mandatory weekly training for all of our technicians, plus we attend specialized training events all over the country to keep our technicians the best trained in the area. I'm truly sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the services provided. Making the decision of investing much time into the repair of an older faucet with expensive repair parts versus replacing it with a new, easy to repair brand can be a difficult one to make sometimes. We always try to explain options and prices to our customers so that they have all of the necessary information to make the correct decision. I invite you to call me anytime on my personal cell phone (417) 483-7238 if there is anything I can do to rectify this situation!"

I have probably used them a couple of times last year. They charged $60 or $65 to come out to look at the problem plus the labor. They didn't charge me the last time; they just charged for the service call. They were very good. I would recommend them. It was a very, very, very good service. They came out fairly quickly. They did the job professionally. They fixed the problem. They were very professional when they did it and they were efficient. Their price is as reasonable as anybody else's price. I think they did a good job. They came out within a couple of days. They showed up when they said they were going to.

He arrived at 8:30a.m. The new hot water heater was waiting on site. He took the heater out of the carton and reported to us that it was damaged on top but that he thought it was primarily "cosmetic". He let us decide if we wanted it installed or wanted to return it and get a replacement. Since we had been without hot water for several days, we decided to give this one a try. It would also have meant that we would have to have him return at a later date to install the next water heater. So far it has been doing a great job hearing our water. He was very professional and competent at his job. He took the old heater away for disposal.
In the last few years I have called McKenny Plumbing everytime I have had issues with my plumbing. They return my calls quickly, take care of my plumbing problems the same day I call. They are very professional, their rates are reasonablees and everything looks as clean as it did before they came.I would recommend them to any of my family and friends. I think the most important thing is that they don't keep adding expenses that arn't necessary.

As it turned out, we had another plumber come in, he said we did not have a clog at all, but that our filters were clogged. Basically it was our fault for not having changed out the filters, but instead of checking those first, he did some "plumbing" and then charged us $150. On Nov 8th another plumber came out and he said that there is no clog in the line, but that we just needed to replace our filters. That is what we did, and everything is working fine. We paid Gary McKinney Plumbing $150 for doing absolutely nothing, letting us think we had a clog when in fact we did not.

I was pleased. We had some trouble getting things scheduled, but the May 22 tornado has made it tough to get any type of repair work done. The plumber was knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. I will definitely use the company for my future plumbing needs.

I called the day before and Gary set up an appointment for the following day and gave a time frame when he would be at our house. He was punctual and very friendly and after looking at the water softner that needed to be disconnected..he said it was an easy job. He asked if we would like to have them haul off the water softner and we were glad to have them do this for us. We were also impressed by the cost of the job. We thought the job would be higher..but we were pleasantly surprisedd by the total of $60.00. I found Gary McKinney Plumbing on Angie's List and chose them because fo their great reports. We will definitely use this company on any plumbing needs we have in the future. GREAT COMPANY AND EMPLOYEES!!!!!!
