I paid for the consultation but so far the contractor has yet to contact me to set up the consult. I emailed and left a voicemail to schedule the consultation to no avail.

"Unfortunately I wasn't notified of this request until almost a year later. I did respond through the Angies list system but I don't think that went through either. My direct number if you get this is 612-369-4698. Best. Stan"

"I'm Sorry about your experience. The severely wet fall and even wetter spring (9 inches of rain in 3 days) has kept us from doing many projects. We will not compromise on quality to rush a job schedule. There are other companies that will install jobs in suboptimal conditions. What happens is they look good for a short while and then have issues later on. We feel that a project should last a lifetime- and the only way to do that is without cutting corners. That means we can't install some jobs if the weather is not cooperating-unfortunately that is what happened to do delay yours. Good luck with your patio :)"

This was the second project that Genadek was hired for. The reason Genadek was rehired to do work that no other contractor seemed to want to take on was because the company delivers what it says it will. The first project was an extensive drain tile system with permeable pavers and a french drain, which has provided a beautiful place to entertain as well as much needed management of a high water table. And when Genadek encountered issues with the high water table, they researched and came up with a plan - a plan that became the solution we had been searching for going on 6 years.
On both projects, Genadek was upfront about changing conditions of the project and gave us the information necessary to make a decision. At no point was there a feeling that Genadek was doing anything other than respecting us and the financial constraints of the projects. It is impossible to expect a bid to always be perfect down to the last penny, however Genadek makes a concerted effort to do just that and when they cannot - you will know why.
When Genadek finishes a project, they clean up the worksite and leave it as they found it so there is no delay in your enjoyment. There is not doubt that this is a company that is choosing to do business the right way - respecting clients - and should be supported for it.

Before I made my selection to go with Genadek Landscaping I did my homework! I met with 6 different Landscapers, got estimates, read Angie's List Reviews, checked with the BBB. The reason for this is my particular project was difficult. I needed to replace a retaining wall that was about to fall down and hit my house. It was about 3 feet from house and 4 feet tall (so you do the math). Problem is that the retaining wall was holding back my neighbor's hill so I needed a Landscaper AND an Excavator. Enter Stan Genadek.
From the moment I met with Stan Genadek I could tell that he and his team were different. Not only were they landscapers that understood soil dynamics, but they were also an excavators and could remove my retaining wall and build a new one the right way without damage to my house or my neighbor's hill. Also, they were able to do other things (example - remove my old window wells and put in new ones) whereas some other landscaping companies weren't comfortable doing all the work I wanted done. Also, I found Stan to be really pleasant to work with and could ask him any questions I had. Stan even game me some terrific additional ideas for my yard that I ended up using.
Overall, comparing estimates I found Genadek Landscaping to be about middle of the road (in terms of price) they weren't the most expensive or the cheapest. But really seemed to have the expertise, so I booked my job in end of July and put my $100 down to reserve my place in line. I was told that the project would be about 10-12 weeks out due to how busy they get. So here's a warning, book EARLY!!! But it's definitely worth the wait, the work is top notch!
The project started around the end of September and took about 3 weeks. The foreman's name was Mike and there was a 3 man crew. I was immediately impressed with the work! Very professional, great attitude, and daily check-ins and updates to let me know what was going on. I got all my questions answered on a daily basis and the crew cleaned up after themselves each day. I was really impressed with the work and could see that Mike and his crew truly cared about my house and my project and wanted it to be great. Mike would even take me aside with just random pieces of advice and comments about things I could do for maintenance and upkeep with my landscaping after they left (just as a courtesy).
Once the project was completed we did a final walkthrough and went over every small detail before handing over my final check. I was very satisfied! I've already received a number of compliments from friends and neighbors on the work and will go back to Genadek landscaping in a heartbeat for any future jobs.
Also, I have to say Stan was great to work with on the business-side of things throughout the process as well. I had Stan's email and cell number and whenever I left a message I'd get a quick response back and he was always pleasant to work with.
Overall, I'm very happy and can't say enough great things about this company!

The workers on site were wonderful -- we were very happy with the work as it was being performed, and they were very careful with surrounding area (drive, sidewalk, lawn) and did an excellent job overall. They were friendly and very respectful of us and our home/yard - a joy to have around.
My dissatisfaction was with the level of responsiveness I received from the owner after accepting his bid and sending a deposit check in (up until the deposit was sent, he was very quick to give a bid, explain the process, and return calls to answer questions).
After being told that the landscape crew was "a few weeks out" it took about 6 weeks for the job to happen, and that was after several calls to the owner to get an update on status. I understand that other projects ahead of mine may fall behind schedule or go beyond scope, however I was never updated on timing at all and was left wondering if he even received the paperwork with the deposit check. The only proactive note I received from him was the email on Friday at 5p indicating that the crew can start Monday morning, and 'will someone be there that morning'.
Upon project completion, my husband inadvertently gave payment in full, per the invoice, to the lead worker at the site (not factoring in the deposit check I sent in 6 weeks earlier to secure the bid). After immediately contacting the owner to let him know about the mistake, I asked him not to cash the check. I received no reply, and 3 weeks later the check was cashed. Now I need to go thru the hassle of trying to get that deposit money refunded. While the work performed was wonderful, the business management and
customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
Response from GENADEK LANDSCAPING & EXCAVATING INC
"I apologize for the confusion on the $100 deposit check. I also thank you for paying my crew leader before I could provide you with an invoice. Our normal procedure is to provide you with an invoice and lien waiver before receiving payment. This way I have a chance to calculate out the down payment to provide you with an accurate total. Unfortunately I did not receive your email asking to hold the payment check or I would have done so. The only email I received regarding this issue was on Thursday October 4th at 9:36 pm asking for the deposit back. To make sure you knew I was on top of it I answered you at 10:09 pm that night and had your check in the mail the very next morning by 8:00 am on October 5th. I also offered to cover any issues that could have came up because of that mistake. The management and the crews strive to provide the best service possible. I apologize if you feel this didn't happen."

In Spring 2012, we obtained quotes from three companies to tear out two existing retaining walls along the driveway and re-build them using Versalok, excavate and grade the backyard, and build a 3.5 - 4 foot retaining wall in the backyard using the stone from the old retaining walls. Genadek had the middle quote; they were also the only company to follow up with a phone call. The whole job took about 4 1/2 weeks. Stan, Mike, Tim, Rob and Andrew were very professional and friendly; our neighbors even raved about them. They cleaned up the job site at the end of each day and communicated frequently so there were no surprises.
My only recommendation to those interested in hiring Genadek is to get on their schedule early. Their calendar books up fast!
Genadek Landscaping was very good and easy to work with. They were at the property for approximately 1 week, which also included some rainy days. They always asked for my opinion on different situations that arose, and would definitely use this company in the future for any retaining wall or landscaping work.
Stan Genadek responded personally to our call for a bid and spent an hour with us, addressing our questions and helping us educate ourselves about landscaping our yard and replacing our retaining wall. He gave us a price per square foot, which helped us determine what additional work we would do, and followed up in a prompt and helpful manner when we called any time we had questions. When we compared and contrasted his bid and our plan with other contractors we were confident we were making a good decision, and we entered into a contract for a significant project with Genadek. Stan and his forepersons, Mike and Tim, met with us the first day of work and Mike was on site every day, working with the very fine crew of gentlemen Genadek employs. They were prompt, courteous, considerate of our needs and those of our neighbor's, on whose driveway they needed to work to do their job. Mike communicated well with us in every case, making certain that what we wanted and what was possible matched up, and in addressing and resolving concerns as they arose. Cleanup every day and at job's end was excellent, and every day we had people in our neighborhood tell us how great the walls looked, even during building. We continue to have daily remarks and inquiries for Genadek's contact information due to the excellence of the job Mike completed for us. We would recommend Genadek to anyone who asked, and will have Mike and his crew on any job we plan in future years, regardless of where we live.We are extremely pleased, and very happy.

Stan was quick to consult and provide estimate and also made the important recommendation to add a drain tile to the area. His foreman Tim was great and communicated well as the project progressed. They did the best they could given the circumstances they were presented with. This was a 100 year old house and came with many problems and we were pleased with the work that they performed.

I just wanted to let you know how happy I am with my beautiful retaining wall. The whole experience with Genadek Landscaping and Excavating Inc. was enjoyable. From scheduling thru completion, not only was I treated with respect but so was my house, grounds and neighborhood. Thru the whole process I was treated with courtesy by Stan and his crew. When I told Stan my vision, he found the blocks I had envisioned (other companies told me what they would use and it wasn't what I wanted), when I changed the design a little, asked all kinds of questions and wanted an extra layer of block put on, everyone went with the flow. It felt like there was nothing else that mattered besides making my job and my needs top priority. I really appreciated the men keeping the area clean and I got a kick out of hearing "a clean work site is a happy work site". The wall not only looks great but having seen the accuracy, care and professionalism with which it was built, I'm sure it will last for decades. Not only would I highly recommend Stan and his crew, but so would several of my neighbors who appreiciated their workmanship, courtesy, and professionalism. I should mention that Stan's estimate was competitive and I appreciated knowing up front what any changes would cost.

2 years later and I'm still thrilled with the look and workmanship.

At the beginning, the project started on time and communication was good. As the project progressed, we discovered that in the process of the dig the crew cut the electrical cable that provided service to the detached garage. They did not fix what they damaged because they claimed that Gopher State One Call didn't mark the cable so it wasn't their fault. We had to hire an electrician to come out separately and pay to have it fixed. They were told to work with electrician and not to bury the dig until electrician could fix the cable, but in their hurry to finish to get to other jobs they buried the broken cable. When electrician found out, he wanted to charge more than he originally estimated since he would have to dig. We threatened to sue Genadek Landscaping and they came back to dig a trench across our back yard for the electrician but did not return to fill it after the electrician finished his job. The whole back yard was just mud because the grass was gone from all the digging.
Response from GENADEK LANDSCAPING & EXCAVATING INC
"I'M SORRY YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE. IN OUR COMMUNICATION WITH THE ELECTRICIAN WE WERE TOLD THAT HE WOULD BURY HIS OWN LINE AND UNAWARE THAT HE DIDN'T COMPLETE THIS OR WANTED TO CHARGE EXTRA FOR IT. WE WOULD HAVE CAME BACK AGAIN AND FINISHED BURYING THE LINE HAD WE KNOWN ABOUT THIS. PRIVATE LINES BETWEEN BUILDINGS TYPICALLY ARE NOT MARKED. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO KNOW ABOUT A PRIVATE LINE WITHOUT BEING NOTIFIED BY ANYONE INCLUDING THE HOMEOWNER. SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION. WE TRIED TO KEEP THE TRENCH AS COMPACT AS POSSIBLE TO MINIMIZE ANY DISTURBANCE. AGAIN, WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE."
