We hired this company on January 5, 2015 to install a new roof on our home. The salesman ( a veteran, who made a big deal about this as my husband is too) seemed honest and forthright about this company being able to handle the slope of our roof as it is usually an issue for other companies, and they'd be sure our roof was leak free for years to come. We paid a $2250 deposit and made an appointment for the install. The day of the install, no one showed up. No one called. My husband called and inquired after a few hours and was told they'd be out the next day. Strike one. The next day, they arrived. The project manager shows up wearing sandals. Bad sign. 3 hours later someone puts their foot through the roof and the ceiling of the master bedroom. The work crew (a Spanish speaking guy who was just really rude about the issue, his wife and some other men) are combative about fixing the issue and the project manager spends most of the day running to and from Lowes to pick up supplies as needed, so is not on hand to over see the roofing work or the repairs to the hole. My husband goes outside to check on the roof, and they've got the underlayment down. One side is nice stuff.. we've paid for DiamondDeck, it's black and sort of felt feeling on one side, thick feeling. The other side of the roof is done in this horrid tarp like materiel that is white in color with black writing on it, thin and cheap. My husband asked the Spanish man if it was the same product and he says yes. It clearly was not, so my husband took a scrap of both. He came inside and called CertainTeed, the company that would be providing the warranty, and that the materials were provided by and they stated the other stuff was not theirs and mixing their product with another would void any warranty. My husband immediately called the gentleman that sold us the roof and of course, since the project manager was MIA, he had to be located, come here, and yes, it was not the right stuff being used. The "right stuff" had to be brought over and put in place. So, if my husband physically had not climbed up there, we would not have known. More issues ensued. They left shingles off areas my husband had to point out. The workers just didn't want to do anything properly. It got ridiculous. The men didn't want to stay to fix the hole. The project manager had to make them. The workers managed him more than he managed them. We asked that crew never return, they were that bad. Who argues with their supervisor in front of the customer about fixing something they broke? 6 months ago, one of the back rooms got a leak in it. My husband called and the company is very hard to reach. It goes straight to voice mail and they don't call back. You have to chase them. The owner came out and claims this was due to the bathroom vent being too short. Well, guess who's workers did that? So that's been secured and shouldn't be an issue. Now, 3 weeks ago, bathroom developed a major leak. Same thing. Can't reach these people. Leave messages and someone texts my husband and says they'll look as their calendar and contact him. On Friday September 30, 2016 at 10:00 am, I am startled by the sound of people on my roof. I jump up and inspect my security cameras to see a crew of people (the same ones sans a new project manager) hoisting a ladder onto my siding and clamoring up there. No word to me. 2 cars in the driveway, no call to my husband. Nothing. My son goes out and a gentleman comes in and explains he is from Grace. Says they only "contract" now. I told him we'd heard nothing and call my husband to come home. I show the man the leak and explain the situation. He has the Spanish speaking man with him and I explain that this person was not to be back here from last time. The workman feigned total ignorance as to the issue. I even had to show the the new project manager the bad patch job in my room. He'd said he'd heard of it and wanted to see it. My husband arrives and speaks to the man and the man tells him it looks like the RidgeVent needs to be replaced with something else as it's just not working on this roof as they'd expected it would. He'd call us to set it up. My husband asks him to please take care of it. The damage we had was just a few days rain. Last we heard from them. Over a week ago. Saturday October 8, 2016, Tropical storm/Hurricane Matthew rolls in, ceiling soaked. I feel scammed. I've no idea if they're going to honor their work or not, but I can't even get them to return a call. They've damaged one ceiling and now another. I have pictures of the damage they did when they installed the roof, and their "fix". The ceiling in my bathroom is wet and isn't photographing properly right now, but I've included one that somewhat shows the damage that is occurring. So we have this warranty.. and apparently a company that just.. doesn't care. For what it's worth, their Spanish speaking worker does work on his own around here. One of those "new roof for a huge discount " people. They did my neighbors roof. I think it's leak free. I could have saved thousands and maybe they would have been nicer too. I'm disappointed to say the least. I'll certainly be filing complaints with any entity I can until this is made right, Bar that, our insurance company will likely be thrilled to have this company for breakfast.

It is difficult to get bids for wood siding. All the big box stores are pushing vinyl siding only and some of the smaller contractors don't want to bid as it takes more work to remove the old board. Finally got a few bids for both vinyl and cedar and Grace came through with the best bid.
Since they had the better bid I was apprehensive about the quality of the work in case they may have wanted to cut corners. All I can say is if you have a siding job, but especially a wood siding project and you decide to call Grace you should ask for Bill Liller and his crew. Excellent work by Bill and team. They worked hard and were extremely professional. I can't say enough good things about the quality of their work.
After the new siding came up it was time to prep and paint the whole home. This was Jose's team and if you have a paint project and Jose is assigned to you then you are lucky. Again, great work and there was no complaints.
Finally, in a project this size there will always be issues that come up and Jim was always very responsive and ensured a great project.
Highly recommend.

Excellent workmanship friendly and professional work crew. Even helped to clean up recent house project waste in yard near the house. Very helpful sales and follow up on last day of project. Our siding project was done during a trying time for my family and Jim Hickling (owner) was exceptionally helpful and considerate. The couple of questions I had at the end were addressed and I'm very happy with Grace Exteriors . I'll definitely call them back for my remodeling projects in th future. The work crew did an exceptional job cleaning up when finished.

I hired them to remove asbestos from basement, and they forgot to reinstall a handrail. Consequently, I had to pay an additional $430 to have the house reinspected prior to closing. I also paid to have them drylock the basement, and they applied way too much mortar to the brick. The work was so sloppy (excess mortar bleeding onto the brick) that I had to paint over the brick to avoid the horrible look they left me with. The owner never offered compensation on those jobs but offered the lowest bid on new windows and roof. The completed work was below expectation (installed a triple window over rotted frame without calling the rot to our attention), then threatened to put a lein on our house if we did not immediately pay for the work in full. Very hostile. I would not recommend Grace Exteriors for any work.
The toilet was running most of the time. The service person was timely and professional. He determined that a part was needed. He had the necessary part with him and made the repair. It took care of the problem.

Everything went so well with this that we decided to purchase a whole new roof from this provider. The owner was nice and personable. He knew what he was doing and explained everything very well to us. He was prompt as well. No difficulties scheduling an appointment.

I did not get what I wanted from this company, but eventually did from Northeast Roofing - here is the story: To be fair, I did not know if "roof maintenance package" was going to address fully or partially the issues I wanted corrected. On previous houses that I owned I would have done these minor repairs myself however my current house is a high two story and the rake is very steep so I am not comfortable working on the roof without a safety line. I had a deteriorated rubber boot around a vent pipe that would leak water into the attic during a heavy rainstorm. I also had a couple shingles (about 3sq ft.) and a small section of siding up high on the house (6 sq ft.) that had blown off during a storm. I expected them to come out and fix the leaking pipe as part of the $99 maintenance package, and have a discussion about replacing the missing shingles and siding - which I believed was about $500 worth of work and piece of cake for a professional roof siding company to fix. I got a mild sales pitch about needing to replace the whole roof soon - which I expected and didn't mind that. However they would not work with me on replacing two shingles and 6 sq ft of siding the way I wanted them to. They came back with an estimate of $1800 to fix the siding. I priced the type vinyl siding at Lowes, which only required one or two 10ft section cut to fit, and the material was less than $50. I was told they needed to buy a 100sq ft of siding to get the exact color match. There was no way I was going to pay for 100 sq ft of siding when I only needed 6 sq ft. I told them I would provide the shingles and siding from part of my house that does not face the public so we could get an exact match on the areas that do face the road. I was told I needed to talk to the business office for a time and materials contract - ok, I understand. However I called and left several messages over about a week and my call was never returned. I started calling other roofing companies on Angie's list and concluded most are not interested in this type of small job - I was told that directly by one of them and I appreciate that honesty as I left a message with several others and they did not call back (too busy I guess). Finally I found a company that would work with me and we were on the same page from my initial discussion. This was Northeast Roofing who is also on Angie's List. I provided them the replacement siding and shingles and they came out and fixed everything, including the leaking pipe, and were completely finished in about an hour. This was exactly what I needed - just skilled experienced labor - and they did everything for $300 - perfect! My recommendation for a small job and no sales pitch or dancing for something you dont need is to call Northeast Roofing.

Provider was professional and fixed a toilet
Response from Grace Exterior Services
"The plumber performed excellent service and additionally went under the house where the toilet water was leaking and did a thorough inspection to relate to the customer all future plumbing needs. This inspection and work in the crawl can be an extra charge and the inspection is also usually additional. Overall we are happy that the customer felt the work was A grade and hope this is what is outstanding. $210.00 is a discounted price for the work performed. Again thanks for the feedback."

The plumber repaired my toilet, then came down and said the cost is $250 on top of me paying $49 on here. He did not inform me of the cost before he repaired my toilet. It was a total shock at the end. No communication skills from this plumber. Never again!!!!
Response from Grace Exterior Services
"This customer purchased 2 toilet tuneups and the plumber performed these services on the two toilets. It was found that the toilets both needed flush valves replaced in order to solve the issue and make the toilets fully functional. The plumber advised the customer that additional work would be needed in order to make the toilets workable and she agreed. The plumber went to the store to get the parts and came back and fixed the toilets. The total bill was $250.00 for the work performed in addition to servicing the toilets. The customer was not charged for travel time and was given a very fair price for the work. When the work was finished and it was time to pay by credit card over the phone, the customer complained to the office manager that she was not aware there would be an extra charge for the extra work. The office manager spoke to the plumber and confirmed the customer was told there would be an additional charge. The office manager then spoke again to the customer and it became clear the customer did not understand how billing works for plumbing (by the hour and parts) or that she was trying to get out of paying the bill. The plumber spent over two hours, plus parts and travel time (travel time not included, the plumber came from Va Beach to Suffolk) In order to try and calm and make the customer happy we credited her $100.00 for the toilet services and left a balance of $150.00 even though this job was a loss to the company and it seemed as though the customer just did not want to be fair. The work was done properly, the price was fair, the customer was treated with respect. The toilet deal in and of itself is not profitable for the company. Most times the toilets are serviced for Angie's List members, and the customer is exceedingly happy and nothing else is gained but a satisfied member which gains loyalty and proves our dedication to excellent service even without profit. It is with great disappointment that we unfortunately receive an F for going above and beyond and being exceedingly fair. This F is not a true reflection of our company!"

They were not able to fix the problem and I ended up hiring a regular plumber. They were fine but I thought they would be able to fix the problem.
