I spoke with Cathy in the office and inquired when they would be out to install my decorative shutters. Cathy advised they would be out in two weeks to do the install. I gave them a check for 1/2 down, which was $2045.00 on the 19th of September. I was advised the check was never received and so then we gave them another check for the $2045.00 on the 29th of September. We later found out (around the 22nd of October, 2014) that the first check that was given to them was actually cashed on the 21st of September, and the second check was cashed on the 2nd of October, 2014. We have not been able to reach or contact anyone since I spoke with Cathy on the 16th of October. We have now been advised through the Chamber of Commerce that the business ha actually closed and advised us to contact the Martin County Sheriff's Department to file a police report. I have done so and the officer stated that I was not his first call regarding this company and their practices.

The company is awesome. From the initial bid to placing the last window, all employees were courteous and professional. Watching the men remove and install each window was like watching a ballet in motion. With very few words the men synchronized their motions to effortlessly remove and install the windows. We noticed a crack in one of the window edges, sent a picture to Barb (Vice-president) who ordered a new window for us the same day she received the picture. The entire staff was quite attentive to all of our needs. We are very pleased for all that was done for us and would definitely recommend them to others
Barb and her staff are the best. It is nice to know that people still care about you and the quality of their work

We obtained bid from Gulfstream in March of 2013 with the
intent of having work done in January of 2014. After obtaining design approval
for both the window enclosure and front door by our condo HOA we signed a
contract during the summer of 2013 and provided a 50% down payment. The contract stipulated work was to be
completed by mid-January, 2014.

Because we would not arrive in Florida until late December
of 2013, we arranged to have a neighbor give Gulfstream access to our condo in
October of 2013 to do final measurements before ordering materials. However, Gulfstream
didn?t reach out to the neighbor until late November and therefore measurement did not take
place until the first week in December.

We arrived in Florida at the end of December, 2013 and
reached out to Gulfstream to determine when we could expect them to begin
work. At that time we were advised that
the front door and the frame for the windows/screen could be installed, but
there would be a delay on the installation of the windows/screens of about a
week.
After the front door was installed we realized they
installed the wrong front door. To Gulfstream?s
credit the salesperson came out that afternoon to review the work and agreed
they had made an error. The correct door
was installed within a week. Amazingly
we learned the Sales Manager (who we understand is no longer with them) took it
upon himself to change the door order because someone he knows that lives in
this community told him, in error, the door we had selected would not meet the
condo board?s approval. We couldn?t
believe that change could be made without ever contacting us to discuss.
Re: the windows/screens, the date constantly shifted. The communication was poor with regard to the
shifting dates ? the onus was on us to check to see if the last date
communicated would hold. At least two
weeks went by before the owner finally advised us she was having trouble with
the supplier. It appeared she was afraid
to give us bad news. Ironically,
consistently giving us unreliable or no information only made it more
frustrating for us as we had other contractors lined up to do work in the
lanai.
Despite the hiccups, we are very happy with the quality of
the workmanship and the products. The
two person team who did the installation was wonderful. They came when they said they would, took
great pride in the work they did and took great care to clean up after they
completed their work.

Installers arrived on the designated day, seemed experienced and went right to work. I had to be away for a few days, so I missed the completion. When I returned my wife said the installers had put everything up, cleaned up, showed her how to operate the accordions, the inspector had inspected, the inspection report had been received and filed. I wanted to see the report so I got it out and it said we had failed; my wife hadn't read it. I called Gulfstream and they didn't know we had failed. The report said fasteners for the panel tracks on the arched windows had to be "6 inches oc maximum spacing." I was disappointed because I believed Gulfstream should have known this. The installers came back a day later and concluded that all they could do was put another fastener between each existing fastener, which would, unfortunately, double the number of fasteners. A few days later another inspector came. By the time I saw him he had completed the entire inspection again; he had been unaware we had been inspected before and failed. He pointed to all the fasteners on the arched window tracks and said he had never seen anything like that before, it was silly, unnecessary and probably weakened the structure as much as it secured the panel tracks. Apparently the rules are subject to individual interpretation.
Later, because we planned to be away for a few weeks, I believed it a good idea to close all shutters, just in case a storm arose. I got out all the instructions Gulfstream had given me and went to work. I noticed what I thought were a lot of nicks and scratches on the accordions, so I called Gulfstream. The woman who answered assured me that was normal because their weight and unwieldiness made them awkward for installers to handle. She offered to send someone over, but I accepted her explanation: they're all aluminum, so not a big deal. While installing the removable base tracks for the doors' accordions, I noticed that some of the anchors were so deep in the concrete that only a few groves of the bolts engaged. The installers and inspectors must not have been concerned, so at some point I'll buy some longer bolts, if I can find them, just to ease my mind.
All the accordions closed nicely, but installing the panels was hard work. If I had this to do over, I would try harder to overcome my wife's objections to accordions on the bay windows on the back of the house, because schlepping the panels back there is more work than it seems. All the panels were numbered and fit nicely until the last four: they were too long, and no way would they fit. I called Gulfstream and they sent a man over that afternoon. He said the panels should fit because they were all the same length, but he couldn't get them in either: the track dipped a fraction. He cut an eighth of an inch off each panel, and they slid right in. So, closing everything up took me the better part of two days and a fair amount of sweat. I'll need help if I ever have to do this in a hurry, but at least I know now that everything fits..
I'd say Gulfstream did as good a job as anyone could expect. They certainly responded promptly each time I called. They did everything they promised.

Perfectly is the best description. Due to the scope of the job, it took 2 very full and long days for them to complete the job. But now my home is fully protected from hurricanes. (I also bought impact resistant garage doors, but not from this company because they don't sell them,)
After having an in-home consultation, I went to the company's showroom/production facility, and got a tour of their headquarters. I learned probably more than I needed, but I was about to spend a great sum of money, and wanted to check out the company in advance. I needn't worry: their installation was flawless.
They arrived on time, a team of 2 men, who promptly went to work setting out their materials and tools. They were also dressed appropriately, showing respect. I watched them install some of the accordion shutters, and saw the workmanship as they removed and then installed the new impact resistant glass at the front door and n the kitchen. Once the job was completed, they taught me how to operate each shutter, waited patiently as I tested out each panel shutter, and we closed and then re-opened all of the accordion shutters on the house.
As they recommended, a year after the installation, I hired them to service the shutters: they close and re-open the accordion shutters, lubricate the moving parts, and remove and reinstall the screws in the ground to ensure they'll work properly when needed. I could have done this myself, but I preferred to leave it to the professionals.
I have highly recommended this company to everyone who mentions hurricane protection. They are dependable, professional, certainly cost-efficient, honest, and I would definitely hire them again if I move.
PROMPT! PROFESSIONAL! GREAT COMMUNICATIONS! SKILLED INSTALLERS! GREAT PRODUCT AT THE RIGHT PRICE!!!
We received bids from 3 contractors on Angie's List. From my first dealings with the operator at the Gulfstream office, to the salesman, measuring team, installers and a personal call from the owner Barbara after the installation to make sure we were happy, our dealings with Gulfstream Shutters was 1st Class all the way!!!
The installation crew they sent us worked non-stop for 3 1/2 days in high humidity and 90s temps to get the job done. They were professional, courteous, respectful and hard working.
IT JUST DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS!!!
We are very happy customers and will be using them again on our rental house soon.
If you are ever in need of shutters, room additions or any services Gulfstream offers, do yourself a favor and place your order with them.
Called Gulfstream and the estimator came out within a few days. I wanted to have accordion shutters installed and to add a screen enclosure and storm door to the front entryway. The estimator made diagrams and gave me a price which was below what I had been told it would cost. After getting HOA approval, I called back to get the job going. The estimator came back, we confirmed the proposal, including a custom screen door, and I made the deposit. Permitting took about three weeks. Once the permit was issued a technician came out and took exact measurements. Manufacturing the panels and door took about three weeks. Installation crew arrived on time and were meticulous with their work including taking care not to trample shrubs and plants. They communicated throughout the process and cleaned up afterwards including hauling away my old storm door. From start to finish everyone I dealt with at Gulfstream were professional and courteous. I now have a beautiful enclosed front entry and shutters on all windows, including the triple sliding glass doors on the patio.
I live in a townhouse on second and third floors. Very difficult access to most of the windows- can't be reached from the ground due to roofing and walkways in the front and waterfront in the back. They had to be very creative to get the job done. They were wonderful and professional- cleaned up nicely, etc. The job took longer than they estimated- because of the above mentioned difficulties. I know some other reviews complained that their start dates were delayed. I imagine it was because they got delayed on a job like mine. I would much rather work with a company that might have some schedule changes than one that will rush and not do a job properly to stay on schedule. Would highly recommend!!!!! Fabulous communication with office as well.
I called and requested an estimate for replacing said windows. The condo is a rental, so they made an appointment to meet me there. They were on time, measured, told me my options, and went over the condo rules so that everything would be up to code. They had replaced windows in the in the condo next door to mine, so they were already somewhat familiar with the rules and regs. I made my choices, was given an estimate, and made a down payment at that time.He said another gentleman would be in touch to take final measurements within that week, which he did. I met him there the following week and he measured.....and re-measured. He informed me that the back wall was not deep enough to house the new windows, so I was a little concerned as to how much more this would cost. When I called the company to make final arrangements to have work done, I was told not to worry, that they would take care of everything......which they did. They arrived on time, on the day promised. They called me about 15 minutes prior to their arrival so the I could meet them to let them in. It took almost 2 days to complete as they had to literally take out the whole wall on the patio, frame in the windows and rebuild the wall......and this is upstairs! They even contacted the condo maintenance worker to get matching paint and painted outside and inside. From start to finish, the workers were professional, proficient and pleasant, and they kept everything very clean. I am extremely satisfied with their work and would definitely use them again. Very friendly, professional, and deliver what they promise!
I thought they did a quality job. They came when they said they were going to come. They gave a quote and stuck with it. I guess they were relatively easy to deal with. I was very pleased with the outcome. The price I stated was for the overall job although we did it in several separate orders with them. We were pleased with the smaller order. So, we did a larger order. They have been very good. I think their price was fair, but I do not know because I did not get a second quote. They were very punctual. They arrived very early each morning.

The salesman was very courteous and prompt but... The price was a little high but within the range we expected. We were promised a rush installation within 6 weeks. After 6 weeks I called for an installation date update & was nicely told a part was missing but it would be in next day. The next day I was told the wrong part arrived. I also got the idea that missing parts was common because new kits were canibalized for parts to complete outstanding orders but my part would be arriving next week. Then I was rudely told I did not know how to count & the company still had another week to complete the job. I was also told installation normally takes 8 weeks - not 6. After about 8 weeks, a crew arrived for the installation. It looked like everything was going OK until the mounts were sealed & then it was attempted to close the shutter - failure. The rails were out of alignment & everything jammed about half way through. Removing the mont cover was extremely difficult. The crew needed to resort to a hammer, crowbar, & tire iron to pry the cover off while also destroying it. After the rails were aligned properly, the shutter would operate but with a little difficulty. My wife was also too short to reach the operating handle. I was told another crew would be out the following week with a longer handle & replacement cover. I was not completely satisfied but paid anyway. After another 2 weeks I called for a completion date & was told there was no record of the problem but a repair ticket would be issued immediately. Another week & another call & another promise the repair ticket was being printed as we talked. A few more days & a repair crew arrived to complete the job. It took almost 12 weeks. We ordered a Nautilus rollup & paid a quality price but I do not have the perception of quality. This is my first rollup & I expected it to operate smoothly & easily - it does not. The repair crew said it was normal.
Doug, the representative of Gulfstream, was early for the initial appointment after I called his cell to say I would be a few minutes late. Do be prepared to be professional: either make a decision or give reason for any delay. The company secretary called the day before the installers arrived to inform me of their timetable. The installers called an hour before completion to meet them and view the installation before making the final payment. Overall the company performs all segments of work very professionally.
