Hammer It came highly recommended to me by a friend, so I felt confident hiring this company. Dustin (the owner) came over. Was polite and punctual. I went back and forth on making up my mind right from the word go (to which I'm sure he wanted to choke me over), but I finally decided to hire him. I put $2,608 down and would pay the rest after the fence was complete. He pre-warned me that he was swamped but promised to have it done before winter. He told me when they painted the lines and Julie did their marking they'd start the project within a week. Julie came and went, the lines were all marked out, and nothing ever happened. I waited for over a month, even avoided mowing so I wouldn't mess up the marks in the yard and slow things down even more. Still nothing. I finally contacted Dustin and asked him when work would begin and he couldn't tell me, so I asked for my money back. He agreed to send back my money less a 25% restocking fee that he told me Menards would charge him because it was a special order. I am a firm believer in "trusting but verifying". So I called Menards. Got the grand total for what all the materials for my job cost and asked about the restocking fee. According to the manager, not one thing was a special order and there would be no restocking fee. The grand total for the materials was $1,901.17. I received a refund check from Hammer It, about a week later less 25% of the entire $2,608. I right away got hold of Dustin and told him that I caught this error and I know Menards stated you would not be charged, as well as, you were not charged for the full $2,608, if you were charged at all, it was for $1,901.17. I would happily pay for a restocking fee based on that total but not on the entire $2,608. I also now wanted proof that there was in fact a fee charged to him, because he thoroughly lost my trust at this point. I told him that if there is no restocking fee, kindly give back $300 of the $652 you kept and consider your gas and time paid for. Even if proof is provided for the restocking fee, Hammer It construction would still owe me $175. I have given Dustin one month and I've not heard anything and he hasn't replied to my inquiry today (29 November 2016). If you hire these people, get everything in writing, keep every correspondence, trust but verify. At this point I have no fence and I'm out $652 (until proven otherwise).

And we did not preform any work for you other than ordering all of your materials, and multipal trips and phone conversations to stay in contact on when the project would begin. As well as the fees were disclosed and on your contract for return and company fee'[Member Information Removed], so we weren't hiding anything, sorry for any inconvience as for our company is very honest and reliable, and have pages of referals from satisfied customers to show that is true. The Hammerit guys did a great job on the Basement remodel. Chad finishing detail made the room look very professionally done. I would definitely hire him again for my next project.
