I had a very unfortunate experience with Handy Manny. I have to conclude he is a fraud. He helped to do some upgrade services for a home that I planned to sell. The original set of services met my expectations and he delivered on time and on budget. After that it went downhill. He collected $2400 for a door that was never installed. He claimed that he ordered the wrong door and had to eat the costs. He wanted time to return the money. I allowed that and further asked him to complete some more minor work so his debt can be offset. He was very tardy and did not complete the work until I took him to task. Additionally he claimed to have completed the work (I live in another city and took his word) but when the property was inspected all the work he claimed to have completed was cited as non-complete. I tried to get a hold of him but he did not respond to phone, texts or emails. I had to pay another company $1500 to complete all the repairs. So i not only lost 2400 but also had to pay 1500 for the work he claimed he completed. I would strongly advice against hiring him.

They did most of the work. He couldn't get all finish that day. He's gonna come back in a month because we got a couple of things replaced and waiting on some paint and such, but then a month went by and we reached out to them because we already scheduled and he couldn't come. He kept having issues. He had worked late on Sunday and couldn't come on Monday to do my job. Then he'd hurt his knee and was unable to work for a couple of weeks, just had excuses throughout the summer. I eventually had a another one of your handyman come in--Mike Strassner. He came in and finished the job. Interactions were good. I'd say that's an A. They just never came back to finish the job. That's why I give them a C. Most part turned out well. There was just one issue with the work that Mike Strassner had to correct. They should probably finish the job and communicate with their customer because I always had to track them down. I waited for the schedule for him to come back in three weeks out. I took a day off from work and he'd tell me he'd be there 8 o'clock in the morning. Eight o'clock comes, he's not there. So I texted him. He said "I overslept because I was working late yesterday. Let's try in a couple of weeks." You gotta give people advance notice otherwise you know I would be burning vacation days. While he was on the job, he was very nice, very professional. He just really didn't get much communication.

See above. Manny neglected to complete the project; when confronted he has either completely avoided the conversation (seriously: not answering phone), STOOD ME UP AT AN APPOINTMENT, and then pretended nothing happen. Again, we are pursuing legal action.

Manny was really great. Manny was very prompt. The project took a few days because of the weather. He would text us and let us know what he was going to do. I trusted Manny and felt comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate about calling him. He seems like a solid man and I like him a lot.

HE DID EVERYTHING and perfectly. He was on time, quick, courteous and since he finished an hour early, he said he would owe me an hour. Even though we didn't have anything else for him to do. He was so nice and professional. PERFECT!!!
There was a bit of a delay in initially contacting Manny, but once I got in touch with him, everything went smoothly. They were able to come out within about a week of purchasing the deal and the technician arrived on time to the appointment. Manny himself did not come for the work and a contractor of his came instead. He hung a television for me. The placement was wrong and was too low. He had to take it off, do some patch work, and re-hang it. He also did some caulking work for me. Because of his mistake with the hanging the television too low, it took more time than expected. Other than having to spend more time on the hanging of the TV, he did a good job with the work. The work that he did was fine.

The deal was 299.00 for 2 painters for the day. The morning he was to arrive, he called with car trouble, and arrived mid-afternoon, alone. He appeared to be scrambling for another painter, which he found by late afternoon. They painted well I to the night, and as it got dark, it became harder to paint accurately. He finished in the wee hours of the morning. It was so late, we were just relieved and exhausted, and just crashed. It was obvious, the next morning that spots had been missed. In all fairness, Manny DID indicate that he feared exactly that, and offered to return to remediate any problems. My husband did not want him to return and preferred to fix it himself.
His work was good. His timeliness was pretty good too. He was a fair person to work with and got the job done.

It was fair. Someone else came and finished the work and that wasn't quite a satisfactory. Everything took a little bit longer and the price did not change. It was amicable. Not exactly as we planned. My husband did an extra work on it after they've gone. They will call when they couldn't show up but sometimes it was like, the night before or the morning to say they can't get here. But they did let us know and they did get here when they said they would at the latest time. Communication was pretty good. They were professional. We would probably go with someone else if we needed that sort of thing.

There were several delays in getting the job done but they did show up. Manny was polite and sincere so I worked with him.
Unfortunately, they didn't put the molding back around the door or even bother to put any insulation foam in the gaps around the door. They just left it hanging there. I really expected better service after waiting almost 2 months to get the job done.
Response from Handy Manny NC
"One of my guys did this job. There was no one at job site. The reason he didn't put the trim on was because she didn't have any foam or insulation on the job. He did her a favor in not putting the trim on without being done right. If customer would have called me I would have been glad to help her, but since she posted this review almost 3 months after the job was done, and never reached out to me, there is no way I could have helped her. She paid for a hourly package in which she was supposed to have all materials present. She emailed me the day after the job was done that he did a great job....so I guess I am a bit confused by her bad rating."

I contacted Manny about removing/replacing my hot water heater, which had a leak and had caused secondary damage to the supporting structure in my laundry room. Manny was prompt to answer my call and to set up a day/time to do the repair work (My hope was to find one person to be able to do the hot water heater and repair the drywall/support at the same time. Manny said he could do this). He was able to give me an estimated cost via phone after I provided him with details, and the quote seemed reasonable - especially since I had troubles finding anyone to do both "projects" at once. However, I was slightly uncomfortable with the fact that he would only accept cash- no credit cards or checks. I did agree to pay in cash since I needed the work done.
The evening before the scheduled day of repair, I texted Manny and asked what time I should expect him. He replied that he would arrive at 7am. The next morning, I got a text at 7:38am that he was running late and on his way. At 9am, he had still not arrived, so I texted him and asked for his ETA. He replied he would be there in 22 minutes. He arrived at 9:30am for a 7am appointment. Needless to say this was irritating to me, as it was obvious he had not run late on another job- he had simply overslept or just run late.
The hot water heater and support were replaced (I did request he replace both pieces of wood, as he was only going to replace the top piece, although the bottom was wet as well). I paid him in cash (which turned out to be more than estimated because of a problem located with the electrical box), and he said he would send me a receipt and the warranty information for the water heater via email that night (he reported he was in a different car than is typical so he didn't have his receipt book). I sent him my email address via text while he was in my house. I have contacted him four additional times to get the receipt and the warranty info, to no avail. He has only replied to one of my texts, with a promise of the information that night (which I never received).
Overall, I believe the work done was solid and without issue. Manny was perfectly nice and helpful during the process, showing me issues as he found them and keeping me informed.
My concerns lie in the facts that:
- Manny and his assistant were 2 1/2 hours late to my home, with no more than a flippant apology after the fact.
- Only cash was accepted, which makes me question the validity of his business dealings with regards to taxes (none of my business, really, but I pay taxes and hope others do as well)
- No receipt or warranty information has been provided over 2 weeks later for the work that was done.

Manny was prompt and diligent with completing this task. For two of the blinds, there was defect from the manufacturer which Manny identified and discussed with me. Given he is skilled in window treatment production and repair, he offered to take those two blinds and repair them that day. He was able to return them to me completely fixed the next day and reinstall them. I would definitely use him again for other services around my house.
