I could not recommend Harold's Enterprises more highly. I reached out to Harold based on his listing on Angie's List before I bought my home--free of charge, he took a look at the roof on a property I was considering buying--giving me an estimate and advice. His help led me to find that the sellers were dishonest about the condition of and work done on their roof, and I purchased a different property in Hudson, NY. My home is a 1927 Craftsman that needed quite a bit of work. I hired Harold based on his honesty and responsiveness in helping me evaluate the first property. True to form, his estimate and ultimate cost to repaint the entire interior, repair and sheetrock floors and ceilings, refinish and replace hardwood floors, completely remodel a bathroom, rewire and install light fixtures, match original woodworking, install cabinetry, windows, and appliances, and even assist with installing new furniture, were more than reasonable. Better yet, the quality of his work was of the highest caliber. He has restored and improved a lovely home, and I am so thankful! I have to say that most of all, I am so happy with Harold's professionalism and diligence. Not every contractor is known for staying on the job and completing it on time. Especially in my situation, where I am a single woman trying to restore a second home when I live out of state--I assumed I would have difficulty in getting any contractor to be present and complete the job on time. However, this was never a problem. Harold was always there, was immediately responsive, and never slacked off when I wasn't there. I plan to work with Harold as much as possible in the future as I continue to improve my Hudson home. I recommend him very highly.

He came for 2 hours one day, about a week later and removed the concrete blocks we had for our rear steps and began to remove our old pavers. Then he never showed up for another month, despite many attempts to reach him. That time he showed up with his two young grandchildren (under the age of 10 !!!) who were running around while he attempted to take us some of our old patio blocks. He stayed for about 2 hours that day, as well. Weeks went by. He did not return phone calls and eventually we got the msg that his phone messaging box was full and could take no more calls. We resorted to texting his cell phone with similar results. He would make promises he would be there in a day or two only to have weeks go by with no phone call or msg saying where he was or why he didn't show up as promised. Then he showed up again one Saturday with a helper and worked for about 5 hours, laying down new pavers, but left the patio in a terrible torn up state. My 71 year old husband and I spent two days carting away broken patio blocks that he had left scattered across the ground. After two months (with no back steps to get in and out of the house) we finally sent him a text msg asking him if was going to finish the job or not or if he would be willing to cancel the remaining payment ($450) due and sign off on the job. He quickly agreed and a week later stopped by to pick up the four boards he had left at the house from which the stairs were supposed to be built, signed off on the contract and left. He did not clean up any of the mess (we still have a huge pile of the broken old pavers he took up just sitting on our lawn), We had to rebuild our back steps ourselves. The 20 or so pavers he actually did put in were supposed to be (according to the contract) put over a base of 3-4 inches of crushed stone. Well, even there, what we got was an inch or two of "stone dust". Harold apologized saying he "got behind on his other jobs too" as his reason for not working on or completing our project. We had him do other work for us, previously (under his employ with Residential Improvements) with mixed results, and some of that was never completed either. So perhaps we should have known better than to hire him for a job under his own business title.

Harold had lots of excuses for why he could not complete the work. He would not show up for days and when he did he would be at the house for an hour or so and then disappear again for another week. I paid him half of the money up front (my mistake, I know) then he hit me up several times for materials after that. I had put in $1800 of the $2000 we agreed to and less than half of the work was completed. When I gave him a deadline of two additional weeks to finish (after the projects had dragged on for 4 months) he - as the texts say - told me to find someone else.

Wonderful experience! He was always professional and very pleasant. He fixed, repaired, installed and improved so many things in my house that had been waiting for years for someone like him. My house is an antique school house with plenty of quirks, but Harold was never a nay-sayer like so many handymen. He respected the homeowner's ideas, and knew how to make things work. He did everything with a smile and never stressed. I will always appreciate the improvements, and will hire Harold whenever I need cosmetic or remodeling work.

Harold started off hired as a handyman for a few quick projects. He was personable, did the tasks quickly and professionally so I hired him to a do the large job(s). We agreed to the work at the end of May 2016. Almost immediately Harold routinely made excuses for not showing up when he said he would (sick, truck problems, no helper, babysit for grandkids, needing to finish a deck for another customer that had a tight deadline) - not just a couple of times - 17 times over the course of 5 months. I tried to be accommodating, until I saw the pattern, a few hours of work then disappear for a week until I texted/called him to find out when he was coming back. He was given half of the money up front for materials, very little work had been done when he came back to ask for more money. He was paid $1500 of the $2000 we agreed to for the work, but I would estimate that less than half of the work has been done. The worst part is that is will cost me quite a bit to repair and finish the jobs he started and/or never completed (the floor in the garage alone is quoted at over $1000). His work became sloppy. I was so impressed at first as a handyman with how meticulous he was. This didn't carry over to the larger work. I found things like uneven trim, broken tiles in the bathroom that he installed instead of using unbroken ones, and trim in the bathroom that didn't line up - at all - not even close. He started all 3 projects - the floor in the garage, the trim on the shed and the bathroom cupboards, but never finished any of the 3 jobs. I finally confronted him on November 20th and told him the work needed to be done by the end of two weeks because 5 months had been much too long of a time frame. He did a little work that day, left and texted the next day and told me he wasn't going to finish the job. Very disappointing. I liked him, I trusted him, I feel like I was very easy on him (with the time frame and the money) and I feel like he took advantage.

I contacted him and we made a last minute appt because one of his clients cancelled. I told him the problem on the phone specifically and per Angie's list, we supply anything to be purchased for the job. I had a lot of what he needed here, but he did not have the appropriate tools to repair the clog. He made a hole in the piping in the wall which led to more leakage that I did not have before and told me he would come back to replace all the piping, not under our original agreement. Since he is not a lisenced plumber I asked him not to return. I do not trust him trying to fix anything else. He spent approx 1.5 hours here and left. He also left a mess in his wake by not cleaning up the dirt and crap that he had left under the sink, the pvc piping was covered in dirt, which was cleaned before and below the sink was dry.
Response from Harold's Enterprises
"Customer requested that I unclog her drain and that she had a snake from her father that would do the job, but the snake she provided was not the proper tool for the job. The pipe was so clogged that the snake would not even go through it. Her drain system was made of galvanized pipe and the drain plugs were rusted and could not be removed. I pointed out the hole in the pipe and she said it was due to her pouring Drano and other solutions down the pipe. I did not make a hold in the wall. I offered to repair with PVC pipes and she said no. At no time did I say I would supply materials."
