Hays Outdoor Living LLC

We hired Mike (Hays Outdoor Living) for a new deck in our back yard in March, we paid 1/2 up front, supplies were delivered to our house and work started on our deck. we paid the final 1/2 when work was "done", here is where the problems started. We didn't know we needed a city permit to do this work, and Mike didn't ask if we had one, nor did he suggest we get one, being a contractor I think he should have known or checked if we need one. That being said one of our neighbors placed an inquiry with our city that we built the deck with no permit, an inspector came out 06/27/2024 and our NEW paid in full deck would never have passed inspection. I alerted Mike and he agreed to fix it so it would pass inspection, here is what was incorrect : caisons were not properly dug to freeze line they were placed on top of existing concrete, legs stands not to code, support around decks were not 2 boards, the deck was attached to the house incorrectly (attached to siding with incorrect supports), stairs were not correct size or depth and we had to move the smaller added deck away from the property line. It is now December and we have heard nothing but excuses about getting this corrected. Mike feels he is doing this work for free but in our eyes he is fixing something he did incorrectly. Our back yard has been a mess since July and we could not use our deck for the rest of the summer and now its winter and our back yard is still torn up, it is now a safety hazard since we have no stairs from our home to our back yard. Mike continues to say he doesn't have the money to complete the work/ get supplies, he told me that it would be about 1800 for new supplies and asked if we could help pay.. we gave him another 400.00 on top of the 14500.00 we already paid, and we still have no deck. Also this company is advertised on Angi as a licensed business and they are not. we just want this done correctly with trying to cut corners. I gave Mike several opportunities to come and correct this, but he has not done so.

Hays Outdoor Living was a pleasure to work with. They performed our job quickly and ensured it was done right, which required extra time and effort to attach the gazebo to our concrete slab so it wouldn't blow away in our very windy climate. We also felt the price Hays charged was fair and would recommend them to others.

Good, only issue was they placed the stairs too close to the house. When I told Michael he promptly fixed it. I told Michael he could use me as a reference or if someone wanted to see work, he could bring them by.

They finished off a job that was started by another contractor and they compelted their work in 1 week. Did a fantastic job.

Very well. Professional, got along well, understood exactly what we needed. When we weren't sure. Hire again in a heartbeat.

Great experience with Michael. He was able to help with deck repairs/ board replacements which most companies don't do because they want to sell you a whole new deck. Highly recommend
