Incomplete and unsatisfactory work. Dan was to build a cover for my deck, a $20,000 project. Had difficulty communicating with Dan throughout this project, he failed to return calls, email, text messages. Currently he is refusing to communicate. During the construction process he made excuses for not communicating, I was told his phone had problems, his email account was having problems, he was camping, he was hunting etc. many times he would inform me that he would be coming out, then no show, no call, it is frustrating to make time to be at home only for him not to show up. A four-week project took six months to complete. Part of the problem was that he ordered the wrong type of truss, he stated that the blue-prints were incorrect, I have no way of knowing but had an architect draw them up for me, however he said that he should have checked to see what type of truss was needed before ordering. He stated the reason he didn't check was because he wanted to get them on order because there was a two-month backlog. The truss company did not charge for the wrong trusses, however we then had to wait an additional two months for the correct ones to be made, then an additional month after they were completed before he started work again. Upon completion of the project I was told one piece of siding came up short and he would have to come back and replace the board, see attached photo, it appears several are short. He even asked for a gallon of my color matched paint, so he could paint before he installed the siding, now I can't get him to return my paint, I offered to meet him someplace, but he refuses to communicate. It was my fault for making the final payment before he returned to replace the board. Now, he will not return any type of communication, and has not returned to complete the work. I have also discovered additional discrepancies in his work that I have asked him to correct. 1. He covered an electrical junction box with siding, he said he would open it up and put a cover on it but failed to do it. 2. He also left a 2.5 inch by 11-inch gap where the two roofs connect (I have pictures), this gap allows access to the attic of the house. 3. He did not caulk much of the siding where it terminates. 4. He also installed Simpson Earthquake connectors to section of previously installed decking, however, he did not adjust the post length after installing the connectors, resulting in that portion of the deck being 2.5 degrees out of level sloping towards the house. 5. Damaged Fascia during installation, no repair made. 6. No caulk around vent. 7. Hardware on railing not installed after re-installation. I did not look hard to discover these findings, I would like to think that the overall construction was done correctly, and it is structurally sound but finding these types of discrepancies causes me concern. Dan has the ability to do a good job, however, he does not follow through with everything he promises. All these little issues add up to a lack of attention to detail., I could see missing a couple of things, but I feel this is just not taking the time to do the job right. I wanted to rate the quality of his work better, it is just hard to do when I have to hire another contractor to re-do the work he did improperly.

We expected work to begin on the project in April, but he did not end up starting until the beginning of May. He projected that the job would take about one month, but when he started he informed us that he did not have a crew and he was doing the work all himself so we figured it could take a bit longer than that. The timeline wasn't a huge concern for us so we did not push him on that too much. By the end of May our front deck was done and we loved it. It was just what we wanted. Things were taking longer than expected, but there was steady progress and we were happy with the work being done. The progress was steady until the end of July when Dan stopped showing up. He also stopped responding to calls, emails, or text messages for one full week. At that point we had paid him significantly more than the amount of work he had completed. At this time the back decks and stairs were started but had no railing. This was concerning for a lot of reasons, but mostly a huge safety concern. We have small children and a dog that have access to that area of our yard. We started to consider taking legal action. Then Dan got in contact with us again. He explained that he had a lot of personal things going on, he was struggling financially, and he was embarrassed to come clean with us. He told us that he would get the railing ordered and finished the job as we agreed. We were skeptical and lost trust, so we met with him in person to all sign a detailed paper contract which lined out the timeline expectations, future payments, and expectation about communication regarding the progress of the deck. After that communication returned to the way that it was at the beginning of the project, we were hearing from him regularly and seeing steady progress aside from a number of hang ups due to ordering and manufacturing of materials. The job was eventually completed by the end of September. In total the job took 4.5 months from start of demo. This was a very frustrating project for us. However, the finished product is beautiful and exactly what we were hoping for. Dan is talented and does great work although his communication and honesty leaves a lot to be desired. We should also note that although Dan finished the project and gave us what we wanted, he continually over-promised throughout the project. At the end of the project he offered several things like deck chairs or comped items to try and compensate but he never came through. For the last two months we have tried to contact him about these things and with other questions about warranties, but we have heard nothing back from him. His work is very high quality, and the price was very competitive. He did throw in some discounts to compensate for the communication issues and I believe we got a great deck for a fair price. But, we still haven't heard from him, and although the things he promised are really just extra, I do have some questions about how the Trex warranties work. I guess I'll figure that out on my own. I would probably not hire him again, but if I did (and what I suggest to anyone that does), is to have him sign a very detailed contract for the work and do not pay him advances unless you can help it. Basically, cover your hind. I believe he is a decent person, but if he can't deliver he might just cut his losses, dissappear and move to another job. That's judging from our experience and a few other reviews.

Dan responded almost immediately to my email request for a site visit and was out within a few days to take a look. He made several recommendations and gave me an emailed bid based on the options we discussed. I met with 2 other local contractors (larger construction outfits) and both gave similar prices for the work to be done. We decided to hold off on the job for a few months until our financing was lined up and at that time I reached out to Dan a second time and asked him to come back and meet with both my husband and I to hash out details. He sat down with us and went over everything from lighting to size to color schemes and made recommendations. We agreed on a price, paid a deposit, and he started the permit application process. Our permit process became a huge ordeal thanks to the County and Dan was there every step of the way to make arrangements on our behalf and go to bat with them so we could get the deck we wanted. He measured every single square inch of the deck as he built it with precision and no detail was left untouched. He had to deal with odd weather situations (torrential downpours) and delays due to his supplier (misordered boards). Towards the end we did struggle a bit with getting timely communication from Dan on some final finish work but ultimately we got exactly the deck we paid for and get several compliments on it. In retrospect we should have set out a more concrete timeline as to start and finish of the project as it did take longer than expected. This was likely due to the fact that Dan built nearly every square inch of the deck by himself when we had assumed he had a larger crew.

Dan constructed a second story deck with water management system. A leak developed and he did come out and deconstruct part of the deck but after that he disappeared never to be seen or heard of again. it was left to be to put back together.

Like some of the reviews before Dan started out great. He was very professional and answered our text and returned phone calls. We put a deposit down with Dan in October and were told some dates. These dates passed and we were given the reason of the weather. To be fair it was one of the wettest fall/winters in Washington. Dan gave us some dates in December and January and he would just never show up. We played a cat and mouse game where I would leave messages and text with no reply from Dan. Dan then eventually apologized about the time its taken and mentioned he was going through some marriage problems. We cut Dan some slack. Dan came in February and demoed the deck, then put in some support columns for the deck. Dan put up some of the frame and then told us the deck would be done in ten days. We were naturally excited . Well its been almost three weeks later now with the demo pile still sitting on the side of our house and no further progress. Dan has not returned our 3 calls or text messages for 3 weeks. We have decided to file against his bond.

Utmost respect and professional; it's so refreshing. It's difficult to find a company, hire a pro that arrives with it all: responsible, ethical, professional, fair, and respectful, and Dan and his helper (I'm sorry I've forgotten his name) have it all.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for some time, but it took a vacation to get me to slow down long enough to get around to it. Simply put, we love our deck. Working with Dan Hoffman was a pleasure and the resulting structure is fantastic. From the beginning, Dan was very easy to work with. I had very specific ideas on how I wanted this deck laid out and constructed. Dan immediately understood what I wanted, and added suggestions to make it even better. Not every contractor that I have worked with has been as concerned with ensuring the end product was built right, and built the way I wanted it done. He took care of every detail from permitting to inspections. Dan and his crew were very dependable, and they kept the work site neat and clean. The deck itself has been a great addition to our home. The Trex decking looks great and has required no maintenance. I highly recommend the Rain Escapes under deck roofing. With a waterproof barrier overhead, the patio underneath provides space to use during the rainy months. It has essentially doubled the size of our outdoor living space, and extended the seasons where we can use it. If you are looking for a dependable contractor that will work hard to make sure things are done right, I highly recommend HD Structures.

Dan did a beautiful job,The new deck is better then expected, we are very happy and have already recommended him to friends. Dan accomplished everything in the promised 3 days as well as a few extra issues that he just fixed without additional charge, He also stayed within the estimate he provided. Dan is friendly, knowledgeable, a natural @ what he does. We would no hesitate to hire him again.

Dan was very easy to work with from the start. Of the three bidders I reached out to, he was the only one that got back to me right away and was able to schedule a site visit shortly after. <br /> Once the decisions were made to move ahead, materials, etc., Dan was able to work it into his tight schedule to get it done a month ahead of schedule. He was particular about even the finer details, such as the topper for the fence posts--he called to give me the option of going standard or the buy-up. He was great about giving us the senior discount also. <br /> Dan's standards are very high. His workmanship is top-notch. I'm very pleased with the quality of the work, materials and precision he put into this small job. I'm certain to have him back for future projects. <br /> On the administrative end, I appreciate that he uses QuickBooks and offers an online payment option via credit card. I was able to take care of the bill very simply and quickly. I also got to use my airline credit card and take advantage of the miles! <br />

Dan is exceptionally responsive. During this process he proactively called me about scheduling changes, ideas to make the project less costly, and changes in materials. It was a pleasure to work with him. Dan listened to our ideas, had fine ideas of his own, and came up with good solutions to challenges as they arose. He never "disappeared" as some contractors do, he was always on the job when he said he was going to be even in VERY inclement weather. Dan is a professional who takes pride in his work and in providing excellent customer service. <br /> Dan and Cody cleaned up each day and did a thorough clean-up when the projects were completed. In fact the garage floor hasn't been that clean in ages. He was respectful of our house, garden, and time. <br />

Once we got the estimates- it took us a while to decide which way to go, but once we did - we were scheduled. <br /> Between a death in the family and the BIG WINDSTORM and FLOODS, HD Structures started on schedule. <br /> They ripped out the old deck, loaded and hauled it away and came back and poured the footing all in the same day. <br /> The following 4 days they built the deck. Dan and Cody were awesome. They really worked well together . The quality of their workmanship really comes thru. They come in ready to work , they work and they got it done. No monkey business. <br /> Thank You Dan and Cody. <br /> Eddie and I really appreciated your time and what you have done for us. <br /> <br />

We met several times to work out design details. Estimates were given for each component, and we worked out what we would have done. We talked about a couple of hidden areas that could affect cost, and were clear on those. In the framing process, small changes that greatly enhanced the finished product were discussed and decided. Several options were provided and discussed, each time Dan was repeatedly clear when something might affect structural or function issues, and also made it clear that he was there to serve us in our project, not to have us do his. He came on time and finished well within his estimate, even though he was temporarily short handed. He made adjustments in his own work, and drew on resources to which he had access to make the project work in a timely manner. His cleanup was complete, he was always pleasant and knowledgeable to work with, and we would not hesitate to call on him again. This is, in fact, the second project Dan has done for us. <br />

Working with Dan and Cody at HD Structures was one of the best contracting experiences we have ever had. The owner, Dan Hoffman was personable, knowledgeable, flexile and very professional. He has both a great design sense and he is very knowledgeable in all aspects of construction. He came up with a plan that increased our quality deck space significantly. He was very patient as we decided on colors and other details. The finished deck is absolutely beautiful and now up to code! <br /> When you work with Dan you don't just get a knowledgeable estimator that sets up the contract and then sends a crew that may or may not be as skilled, you get an owner that is there every day, leading the work, problem solving and making sure the work is done well. He does one job at a time, so was fully focused on our project from start to finish. They were prompt, professional, and kept the area neat and organized throughout all phases of the project. We highly recommend Dan an his company! <br />

I will describe our experience from start to finish: <br /> We attended E&E Lumber's Annual Customer Appreciation BBQ where they showcase their current products and services. We asked Dan to give us a quote and he came by when he said that he would on time (10 minutes early!). He sent us the quote on the day that he promised. He was always available for questions prior to and after we signed the contract. Our original design was a little more than what we wanted to spend, so he provided a better design that was within our budget. He has some pretty good ideas. He showed up to work everyday on time, and finished our deck in the time that he stated on the quote. The two weeks that he built our deck was pretty hot approaching 90 degrees. Our deck gets full blazing sun starting at 11:00 am. He asked if he could start earlier so that he could finish on time. Dan is very professional, provides awesome customer service, and the final product exceeds our expectations. <br />

Dan the Owner, is a very talented carpenter he has a passion for his work and is shows in his craftsmanship. He pays attention to details and makes commitments and keeps his commitments. He has a small crew that would do anything for him, they all work hard and represent the best of the best. They are very busy, great people with honesty and integrity are hard to find and worth the wait. Dan maintained Great communication over the time we were getting the design drafted waiting for the work to begin. He was fair and honest with his estimate and competitive pricing. They cleaned up after and made sure every detail was taken care off. I can't say enough about these folks they provide a great product for a fair price!! Highly recommend!! Hire now!! <br />

Great - Dan and his crew were very professional, cleaned up the work site every evening, answered every email quickly and did a high-quality job. Dan consulted with us throughout the project regarding design details and progress. Job was finished on schedule and on budget. The finished deck is wonderful and is the envy of our neighbors and friends. We will recommend HD Structures to anyone needing a new deck or other outdoor structures. <br />

It went great. He had to tear out part of the deck that went into the house. We didn't anticipate this. It was a little stressful that he didn't repair the cosmetics part of the house (underneath and a bit of the siding). HOWEVER, he said that wasn't part of the job description and I trust him on that. <br />

The house looks fantastic. He took care of everything. This deck required engineered drawings, which he had made. He got all the permits for us. There was electrical involved and found an electrician and acted as general contractor for that as well. Really I mean he was just a very detailed. If it didn't suit him he redid it. I can't say anything bad about him. He also replaced a door and had a custom door made. The price was good given that this deck was probably about 14 x 27. It has a under deck system to channel the water that goes through it and then under that we had can lights installed. It looks fantastic. If I called them I got a response probably within minutes, or text. If he said he was going to be here at a certain time he was so I can't complain. We have had plenty of contractors and I can't say that about them. I would use him again.

Last fall it became clear that we needed a fence of some sort to protect our small flock of chickens from predators. My wife and I consulted Angie?s list and chose several ?A-rated? contractors to offer expert advice and submit bids. Even among such an elite group, Dan Hoffman (HD Structures LLC) immediately stood out from the rest. <br /> Dan came by to view the site at the end of a busy work day. Nonetheless, he was relaxed and patient. He walked the property with us and then spent considerable time at the kitchen table looking at online photos of fences and discussing options?treating us more like valued friends than potential clients. <br /> Our project was relatively small and seemingly fairly straight forward but there were a few requirements. It needed to be: at least six feet tall and stout; rustic enough to blend in with our wood chicken coop yet still attractive; able to gracefully traverse some uneven terrain; reasonable in cost. After several days of thought and research Dan e-mailed us with a proposal for our ?perfect fence.? <br /> Soon thereafter, Dan and his colleague Jess spent several days constructing a 265? long, 6? tall, 3-rail, welded wire fence with a curved-top cedar gate that quite simply exceeded our expectations. It is strong, functional, attractive and with finishing touches that we hadn?t thought of (i.e. fascia on the inside surface of the posts to cover the seams where the wire was joined). I was nearby during most of the construction and was impressed by the careful attention to detail. Dan and Jess displayed a work ethic that I think of as ?old school??i.e. steady but unhurried. <br /> In addition, Dan and Jess were a pleasure to have nearby. They are both bright, personable, cheerful men?far too polite to reflect annoyance when I would interrupt them for a quick chat. My young lab, Toby, looked out the window in the mornings eagerly awaiting their arrival. <br /> In summary, we found Dan Hoffman to be knowledgeable, professional and exceptionally proud of his business and what he creates for others. He listened carefully to our needs, gave us informed suggestions that helped us put form to concept, and then made it a beautiful reality. What more could any one ask? <br />

Dan and his team did a fantastic job on our fence and deck. Our fence was old and rotting out and our dogs had found out how to just push or chew it to get out. Oi! Dan and his team came to the rescue. It was incredible how fast they got the job done. They even added an extra gate for us last minute. We weren't the easiest customers I am sure, since this was our first big expense on our first house. We kept changing our minds but Dan was always professional and willing to help us out and provide guidance and information on all our options. <br /> The fence and deck repairs look fantastic and our neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. We highly recommend HD Structures! <br />
