We had a driveway resurface in August 2016 and I wrote a great review. Unfortunately I would not recommend this company any more. I have an issue with the edge of the driveway falling apart now and the contractor has not replied to messages by phone or email. Soon after the install of the driveway, the asphalt started to have large cracks, large enough for me to put my index finger in. I have called the contractor and left numerous voice mail messages over a one month period. Additionally I sent them emails through the Angie's List website, direct to the contractor, which is how I communicated with them in the past when scheduling the new driveway. I have been ignored. Not one response. Not one call back. It appears that I will have no other choice but to take them to small claims court and or seek out assistance through the state which is really a shame because I was so happy with them initially. Proceed at your own risk if you use this contractor as my experience has been that you will never hear back from them again if you need warranty work.

We felt they did a good job, but we tried to contact them about a couple of issues we wanted them to look at. A crack about 2-3 ft long formed in one spot. A small plant came up in a shady area. The driveway was thinner than the 3" promised in a couple of areas, probably to produce the slope he needed for drainage. But we are running off the edge there making a turn, and I'm concerned it is too thin. They also chipped the lip of the garage (about 1 ft inside the garage) with the roller. He said he would come by, but never showed. I've left messages, and never heard back.

Quality and price were fine and Hugh Ford was most helpful and punctual in scheduling the original work in early Sept. Very forthcoming in providing tips on maintaining driveway. Shortly after work, discovered hole in side of repaved driveway which I surmised was caused by some critter burrowing into asphalt. Left repeated messages since mid-October via email, phone and Angie's List messaging re repairing the hole with no response. This is consistent with recent reviews in October. Wondering if still in business.

Got an initial contract that came down to $7/sq. foot--twice the going rate. When I complained, got a second contract at $3/sq foot. Easy to schedule. Workers arrived promptly and laid a good-looking driveway. The second week after had an 87-degree day. I came home to find the motorcycle kickstand sunk 2" into the asphalt, which was so soft I could peel it back with my fingers. This makes me wonder about the quality of materials used. H&F promised to fill the hole within a week. That was 30 days ago. No one has come, and they've stopped responding to mails. The terms of the contract hold them not liable for anything that happens after a year (fair enough). If I come home to find the car sunk in asphalt next summer, there will still be time to take this to small claims court if needed. Hope the asphalt will have cured more by then.

Driveway looks great, but the machine used to smooth out asphalt hit siding on side of garage. I called Hugh and he said he would come out and look at it. He never did. I got an estimate from the contractor who just did Siding. I called Hugh again and told him the estimate. He said to send him estimate, which I did immediately. I have called many times after, no response ... This surprises me since he is rated so high on angies list.

Not well. We should have scheduled the work on a day when one of us could have been home, instead of being hurried in to the job the next day. Resurfacing job looks average but is a little uneven and grainy. The real problem is when they cut out some of the old driveway with our garage doors open they got heavy asphalt dust all over everything in our garage. Totally unacceptable and disrespectful. Sure Hugh (owner) seems like a nice guy and sells the business well but his crew or someone on his crew can't be trusted. They basically spit in our faces by getting so much dust all over all of our stuff. We do not recommend this company.

Nothing short of excellent! A great experience! Prompt and professional reply to all of my messages. From the initial request for an estimate to all of the additional questions I asked to understand the scope of work, warranty, and options, the reply was always rapid and ultra professional. The day of the job they completed the work on time and did a great job. The price was more than fair, and I especially liked how they did not want a penny of my money till the job was complete. If I could give them a triple AAA rating I would. I would absolutely refer them business and use them again. This is a family run business and they treated me like I was part of their family!

Excellent. I especially appreciate how H.F. Asphalt completely removed a root below the driveway that had damaged the driveway.

Excellent! Hugh responded to my request for estimates very quickly. He came quickly and thoroughly explained the process. He was able to get the work done faster than anticipated. He was able to provide a reduced price for being a member of Angie's List and for having my neighbor have his driveway done at the same time. The driveway looks great! The cracks are gone; it's smooth; and the edges are nicely beveled. He provided good information about how soon to walk, drive and allow the dog to walk on it.

Charlie came out in March for a estimate and I decided to hire them in May. His crew showed up promptly at 8am and worked until around 1pm. They did very good job of cleaning up the edges and adding the new asphalt. Looks so much better than before.
I would highly recommend this company. The owner was personable, patient, knowledgeable, and paid attention to detail. Hugh was on the job at the beginning, middle, and end. He did not accept any money until the job was completed and we were satisfied with the work. He was willing to return when we had a question after the work was completed. The men worked efficiently and neatly. Very impressed. Reasonable price.

My neighbors and I were looking for a company to repave our driveways. HF. Asphalt had the best prices. We were each given a written estimate with a group discount. (500$ off each job)

Hugh was the salesperson and he organized the jobs. His crew was on time and worked in a professional manner. They did a great job on repaving the existing driveway. The extension they did on the end of the driveway was a good job. The side extension edge was covered with the sod they removed. The grass is all dead and it doesn’t look good. I’m going to have to get this area reseeded. (more work and expense) Also, the driveway extension is lower than the rest of the driveway. Hugh told me that the land was clay and required more fill to be brought in. This was not an extra charge so even though the job cost him more, he kept to the agreed on contract. (a plus) In order to level the entire driveway so the parking pad is even with the driveway, I will have to wait for everything to settle. I anticipate cracking between the old driveway and the extension will occur because it is not level.

Hugh said he wouldn’t be able to work on the extension until next summer after it settled and because of the cost of bringing in all of the equipment again.

I do recommend H.F. Asphalt to repave your existing driveway, but I’m not sure I would recommend any changes or additions to what’s already there.

This was our first experience using an Angie's list contractor and HL Asphalt did not disappoint us. Hugh was very helpful analyzing our needs, explaining different options to fix our driveway. It was clear from our discussions, that he and the company is very experienced in the paving business. He was on the job site from start to finish, and provided excellent instruction and description of the process. The price for the service was very good, and the work was competed within 2 weeks of signing the contract. We could not be more pleased and feel this was an excellent first experience with Angie List contractors.
Generally pleased as Charlie Ford and crew paid close attention to many details that were important to me ... especially interface of new asphalt with garage, existing walkway and sidewalk at the street. I'm glad I pestered them a bit about lines left in the surface from the roller. They used a torch to reheat them and tamp them down. This worked just fine. The edges of our long (190 ft.) driveway could have been finished better and when looking up the driveway from the street one side in particular is more than a bit wavy, in-and-out. It is a long drive which accentuates this and I think it would be better to have one guy paying better attention to this and ensuring the edge finishing is consistent from end to end.
My biggest concern though is with the unevenness of the surface. While the finished surface itself looks smooth and reasonably consistent in its texture, it is quite rough and bumpy to drive on. It is sort of a washboard surface. The underlying driveway, while getting old, was flat and even. This surface is not and I attribute that 100% to the fact the asphalt was spread by five or six workers with shovels as opposed to an asphalt paving machine. I did ask Charlie about this once it was clear no machine was coming to do the job and he mentioned something about the layout of the drive and I accepted his "we need to do it the old-fashioned way" reasoning. Thing is, the drive is a straight shot of 190 linear feet from the garage to the street for the most part. THAT could be laid with a machine in my opinion and the wider parking parts up at the house done by hand if necessary.
All-in-all I am fairly satisfied, give this project a grade of "B" and a few months from now will have moved on. I've plenty of A+ examples of resurfacing in our neighborhood to compare to. I expected the same level of work. Otherwise, I found Charlie Ford to be a pleasant and professional gentleman, patient with questions, flexible with schedules, always on time and kept in touch often. They left the job site clean and free of debris with just a little cleanup here and there required.
Overall the driveway work went well. I rated B overall. The quote process was very easy. Charlie came onsite on the same day I called, looked at the area and measured for the extension. He answered all my questions then went away and sent a proposal by email a couple of days later. HF Asphalt accepted the contract without me having to pay a deposit (that was very nice). The pricing included an automatic discount for Angie's List customers. I didn't have to find any coupon.

The work happened on the day scheduled. The team showed up on time but didn't have any paperwork with them so they kept asking me about what they needed to do. Once I explained the work, the team took measurements and they went to work. The whole job was about a half day. The asphalt deliveries happened just like Charlie explained the process would go. I was pleased to see the work happening as expected. When the team was done, Charlie was back on site to answer any questions and collected the payment. We waited the recommended 7 days before starting to drive on it. Quality is B because some of the paving has lines on the driveway from the machine used to press the asphalt.

Overall I think the service was very good.
Absolutely excellent customer service from start to finish! Hugh was prompt in getting us his estimate (which was more than fair even when compared with some B-rated competitors!) and scheduled the work about a week afterwards. He was very patient and thorough in answering questions, and addressed some major issues from prior work on the driveway. His team was excellent, punctual, and worked masterfully. They even took down an awful old basketball post left from the prior owners and sawed it up for us. They cleaned the area, even collecting some leaves that weren't even on the driveway to dispose of them for us. I felt confident and comfortable with them, and the driveway is looking AWESOME.
Will definitely go to Hugh and his team FIRST for any project!
