Company did not provide a repair cost in advance. When I called the owner after installation to get clarification on cost breakdown, she was defensive and relcutant to provide details. Claiming that $375 was a standard charge for this work. However, the company would not provide me this cost when a made the appointment. For one hour of work, without being transparent about costs, they take advantage of homeowners. Only provide a cost when plumber is at job site with homeowner anxious to get work done. While the work performed is good quality and the plumber was a pro, there are other good companies with more reasonable prices. I will never use this company again.

$600
On the cost, it was $600 because it was a $200 service charge for them to come out on a Saturday. We had a leak; it was in our column on the first floor leaking into the basement where my son and his girlfriend were staying. One it did not show that there was an actual charge for the part. It showed $200 and then the difference. It doesn't show how much was the part and what was the cost of labor. It was a $200 premium to come out on a Saturday and I didn't have a choice because it was leaking. Every other bill I get from a plumber shows the price at what the cost is. I would not use him again, I would not call him again. I think the price was ridiculous; I mean $200, you're taking advantage of someone with a leak. It turns out the plumber we used before and they said yes, they charge a premium. They wouldn't say the price, but they said it was extreme. For all those other reasons I was really unhappy. He came within an hour of two when we called. He told us he's 24/7, so he takes advantage of everyone who calls. He was professional. The whole pricing thing and the billing thing is the problem because it doesn't show what was charged for the part and the cost of the labor.

Great, we needed a Sunday visit, the owner came out himself, he was a great guy, gave us a discount, routed out all the way through the home (about 80 ft.).

$625
Hicks Plumbing charged my wife $625 to replace 2 Delta faucet stems in my bathroom. My wife did not know the difference and said the serviceman quoted the stems costing $250 a piece + labor to install. I almost choked when I got home knowing they were $20 at most everywhere. I needed a flapper for the bottom of the toilet, but Hicks said replacing this $5 rubber flapper was $300, so obviously she said no to that. I called to complain the next day and the woman answering the phone said she would have the "master plumber" call me back and of course, he never did. I actually think this company took advantage of someone they thought wouldn't know the difference and just robbed us. Please beware of this company. I was definitely ripped off.

I called Hicks because I thought the cylinder on my Kohler needed replaced. I ordered the part from Home Depot, but when I realized it involved taking the tank off the toilet, I called a professional. Hicks was able to accommodate me the next day. The plumber was early (the dispatch center called to ask if that was OK), and quickly diagnosed that I only needed a new seal. He ran down to his truck and got one instead of taking the seal from the kit I had ordered (so I can now return the kit to Home Depot!) He showed me exactly what he was doing and explained it so that I could do it myself if I ever needed to. Unfortunately I didn't get his name (because he was only here for 10 minutes), but he was great. When I need plumbing services in the future, I will definitely use Hicks.

This went very well from beginning to end. The company was able to provide next-day service and Tony arrived on time and quickly diagnosed the problem and did an excellent job replacing valve. Both he and the office staff were a pleasure to deal with.

I provided an N/A for price only because the work had to be done immediately and I took no time to comparison shop.
Arrived late in the evening of the day I found the leak. Dozens of area homes had frozen broken pipes but he got to me as soon as he could. He cut a hole in the back of the vanity cabinet and the backing wall and quickly located the failed connection. He removed and replaced the broken connection and repacked the insulation. He advised me to get a fan and heater into the area and run it for 2 weeks before repairing the paint on the ceiling below. He cleaned up properly and charged far less than expected. It is now a year later and no problems. He was excellent in every way.
Realized on Tuesday that my bathroom fixtures were frozen. When they thawed late that afternoon I thought all was well but noticed stains on the dining room ceiling below the following morning that continued to grow and I couldn't locate the break. I shut off the main supply and tried to find a plumber but everyone was booked for days. Finally another Angie's List plumber who was booked thought that Tony Hicks might be working near Ashburn and I was able to reach his wife who added me to the end of his overbooked day. He was able to arrive at about 8PM that evening and quickly isolated the source of the break saving my dining room ceining and restoring the water. He gave me good ideas to dry out the area to ensure no mold and tips to better insulate the space to avoid a re-occurrence. He did all of this for a great price. What a great guy.
Dominion assigned the repair to Hicks's Plumbing. They used a company called Line Locators to locate the leak. They had trouble finding the leak; It took two trips but they finally determined it was under the front porch which was extremely difficult to get to. At that point Hick's went back to Dominion to get approval to do directional drilling and to replace the entire water line (Dominion originally approved a repair only.) Once they got approval, they replaced the line on 9/9/13. Hicks came out the day before (a Sunday) to do the preliminary digging. The drilling itself couldn't have gone better. They drilled under the front lawn 3 feet down and came into the basement wall about six inches above the existing cut-off. The opening was sealed and a new shut off was installed. There was minimal damage to the lawn and no damage to the closet wall where the shut off is located (the repairs were all made within an existing opening). Things couldn't have gone more smoothly. The process took longer than I expected mostly because of the difficulty in finding the leak and having to go back to Dominion for additional approval. But I couldn't be happier about the results.

We have the sewer line insurance from Dominion Resources - recommended by our HOA after sewer line incidents in our 25 year old neighborhood. We had a backup with sewage water bubbling out of the main level guest bathroom toilet. After doing some research, we called Dominion and they sent out Tony Hicks of Hicks Plumbing - and on the same day which was very important to us.
I believe he must do a good amount of this work for Dominion as he quickly figured out the problem, found the buried access point, and cleared out the immediate problem. With no pressure, he told us that once roots are in the line, you have crack in the line, and gave us a rough quote to fix the cracked attachment to the house, also explaining that if the problem got worse over time, Dominion may cover the full repair, but that determination would be by Dominion and after more significant evidence of the problem being in the line, not just the attachment to the house.
His information was very helpful and his work was great.
The original installation made the replacement a challenge and I realize that there were delays and difficulties associated with that which were outside of the control of Hicks. After five days without water, the project was completed and the overall plumbing work seems fine. Although Hicks is not responsible for restoring the landscape, they are supposed to at least fill in the holes that they dig. In both the yard and the driveway, their temporary refill work was sloppy and poorly done and will result in a lengthy delay to the landscape restoration as we wait for the ground to settle.
My biggest complaint, however, is the absence of professionalism shown on the project management and scheduling side of things. This seems to be a small operation, with Christina Hicks managing the office while the plumbers are out doing the work. While she may be overloaded trying to do too many things at once, she often gave me the impression that I was inconveniencing her with what I thought were reasonable questions about scheduling and expectations of the work. I may have even been willing to overlook all of that once the water came back on. However, at the completion of the project, she was unwilling or unable to confirm a final amount to what I owed for the copper when I asked her, telling me to go back to what I thought was a preliminary estimate number for the amount (fortunately I had written it down when she told it to me over the phone). The work was completed on Friday and I put the check in the mail over the weekend, which apparently was not fast enough as I began receiving demands for payment via text message early the following week (Monday or Tuesday.) It is now a month later and I have still not received the receipt that I requested for my payment. I can only assume that it was received because the text messages stopped. I am probably too and quot;old schooland quot; in many of my points of view, but I do not believe in conducting business via text message.
I believe that good service is more about getting the water turned on in the end. As I previously mentioned, that part of the project was fine. However, I will use another contractor for any future plumbing work that I have done on my home, as dealing with the lack of professionalism shown by Ms. Hicks is not worth the additional stress.
Response from Hicks Plumbing Services LLC
"It took a lot time because we had to use a leak detection company to find Her leak and it was inside of the garage it was hard to find you would've taking a lot less time to repair her line but it was in the garage."
