Fantastic, they showed up everyday, they are working in shifts and they are very professional. Juan carlos did the plumbing, design the work and his team did the tile work and it was wonderful. The bathroom was so gorgeous. It was a good communication with juan carlos and oscar who did tiles. They put cover over their shoes.

Mr. Martinez was able to give us an estimate and send his crew the same week we contacted him. We were pleased with the skills and positive attitude of the workers and satisfied with prompt and high quality results of the project. We would definitely hire this company again.

Hard to get them scheduled, once they were on job, it was hard at work. Demo all PCC driveway and replaced. the coupon said demo included, but that did not cover haul away cost of $250. Hidden fee. Deal was for 100 sqft, and extra was at $12 sqft. During the preparation to pour concrete, there was a lot of fist sized stones left on top, ground was not compacted. Having extra stones just reduces amount of fresh concrete and also allows for voids on the bottom. Additionally the reinforcing wire was just laid on the ground, so not effective in doing the job of stopping cracking over time. Yes it is a thin piece of concrete but if you are paying for the wire it should be up in the layer, not on the bottom. Had a area with two joints coming together at 90 degree and offset, you will always have a crack trying to connect them together, should of put in either a cold joint, so when it cracks, you have a valley and straight line to put some joint sealant. Or put in a felt joint. Also have a corner spall when new area hits the existing sidewalk. expansion caused it to break up the corner of the new concrete. Called and texted several times since the crack/spall corner appeared. Get message that he will stop by and look at it. Not sealed, not seen. Poured PCC 20 March, 2016 and cracked in Summer time. So would say quality of work was good and bad, good job of removal and clean up, good finish job, but the crack should of been taken care of when the PCC was still wet with cold joint. Bad on actually fixing the issue as of today. I did not get a finally invoice with quantities in my email. asked for it but never was sent. Hire again? Maybe not is my answer, but the hidden cost in the coupon not addressing actual demo cost - this cost is known, you know you are going to haul away the PCC.
Response from H Martinez Contracting LLC
"We apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding. Our deal specifically specified in the terms and conditions that any demolition of any existing concrete would be included in the deal price but that the removal and disposal of any demolished debris would be additional. We would also like to reassure you that we follow both local and international building codes. We guarantee the quality of the work by offering a one year guarantee. Its normal for concrete to get microfractures or small cracks especially in areas that are susceptible to certain conditions. Its also customary to prepare the site by laying the wire mesh/rebar before the concrete is poured. Once the concrete is being poured the worker will lift the wire mesh/rebar into place to give the concrete extra reinforcement. We would also like to apologize if there has been any form of miscommunication. We would be more than happy and willing to set up an appointment to go over any issues or concerns. You can send us a message through angie'[Member Information Removed] list telling us when you will be available to meet or you can give us a call at 703-401-8168."

I am satisfied with the service performed. I really like the color of the floors on the main level. The company was responsive and addressed any issues found. Hector had a cleaning service clean my lower level after the job was completed due to all the dust. The cleaning service was a nice finishing touch.

The owner of the company came out and gave me an estimate of the work I wanted his company to do the very same day I called him to inquire about using his company's services. The work was started and finished according to the scheduled two days that he said it would take to complete everything that I wanted done. The work was done in a professional, timely manner, by efficient, knowledgeable workers, who did an excellent job!!! Mr. Martinez made sure that everything was to my satisfaction upon completion of the job. When I told him that my old door to my carport shed was too raggedy and old to go back up, he had one of his carpenters install me a new door the very next day. The carpenter who installed the door also did an excellent, professional job of reframing the door opening and installing a classy looking new door!
In summary, the company did an excellent, timely, and professional job of the work I contracted for, at a reasonable, competitive price.

Before work was started Mr. Martinez said it would cost an additional $700 over the coupon price to cover the removal due to the weight and rebar that had to be removed. When I suggested that was an expected part of the coupon he said it wasn't, and that the price offered in the coupon wasn't nearly enough for him to cover his costs. I asked for a written itemized contract and a copy of the year long guarantee that he mentioned so we could review and discuss. His work team showed up unexpectedly within a day of that conversation and left a note saying they'd return that Saturday or next available appointment. I called Mr. Martinez and left messages at both numbers requesting that he contact me immediately before another step was taken. No response that entire weekend. On Monday morning, Apr 4th before 8am, I think I hear the normal garbage truck pickup, but when I notice the sound keeps repeating, I look out to see a work truck and realize what I was hearing was a jackhammer. By the time I got dressed and to the door the front slab was halfway through demolished. I moved my car from the driveway to protect it from the flying pieces of concrete, and came into the house immediately to contact Mr. Martinez, again with no success. I have finally left a message via the Angie's message box asking him for the written contract which I've yet to receive. Apparently he tried to send me something through as an attachment but I received nothing. I replied to his message within the hour according to timestamps and advised that I did not get the attachment, and once again gave him my direct email address and my cell number. I still do not have the contract or guarantee. I cannot tell you how utterly disgusted I am with both H. Martinez and Angie's List for what I perceive to be an extortion attempt for an additional $700 and a most ill-advised recommendation for a 'reliable' contractor.

I will NEVER do business with either of these entities again.

"We are truely heartbroken to hear this [Member Name Removed] The deal you purchased was through angieslist so there was no need for a conctract. Now for the disposal of the debris we had come to an agreement and sent you an invoice of through angieslist and by email. After the work was complete we believed you where more than satisfied with the work as you had given us your blessing. After that day all communication ceased as you where unwilling to to discuss the work after completion or the remaining payment for that matter. We are truely sorry if you feel that we have done you wrong in anyway but we weren't given the chance to even discuss a d try to resolve any misunderstanding. We are still willing to go over any questions or concern. You can contact us through angies list, email (hmc@hmartinezcontracting.com), or by phone at 703-401-8168. Thank you, H Martinez Contracting LLC"

There were good and bad things about it. It was a learning experience and you know what you will do next time, differently. One thing I wasn't aware of was that there would be so many people coming in and out, like somebody doing the demolition, somebody doing the drywall. So there were a couple of different groups of people coming in to do the drywall or a different person coming in for the floor. So there were just a lot of different people in our home and I wasn't aware sometimes of the scheduling, not knowing when somebody was coming or expecting and them not showing up. So sometimes miscommunication because there were so many different parties involved. I was a little disappointed with the professionalism when we did the contract. I had gotten the original contract and then the day that we began, he had brought over the contract but didn't have the Angie's List 10% discount reflected. So he left to change that to reflect it. Once he brought it back, I had assumed that everything was the same but he had taken out the glass door for the master shower and because I didn't read every line again, I had assumed everything was the same except that 10% When a different person came to put the door, he asked to be paid. So I went back and looked at the contract. When I compared on that same day it was different and so I kind of felt deceived.

Hector, his brother Jose, and the entire crew were professional, friendly, and their prices were very reasonable. (I've learned over time that these are extremely rare traits for many businesses) The work that they did looks excellent, they offered creative solutions to some of the project's challenges, and they went above and beyond to deliver. I'd highly recommend them!
Mr. Martinez made a thorough inspection of areas to be upgraded, asking questions and measuring spaces. He offered suggestions or options to our plans, especially when we didn't know how (or if) something could be done. Work proceeded smoothly, and they discovered the source of an electrical problem that had stumped two previous electricians. It was an additional cost, as it should be, and we were happy to pay. Workmen were polite and efficient, and the work performed was excellent. The only negative, and it's a minor one, was the job took two weeks instead of one as promised. One reason was the job was offered and accepted on relatively short notice, and the closet doors took longer to arrive than expected. I believe if we had contracted a bit earlier that all the work would've been completed within the timeframe Mr. Martinez originally determined. He was very patient, and answered all questions completely. His price was less than half of the other estimate, which always makes a homeowner nervous. But the results were great, we're thrilled with the final product, and wholeheartedly recommend this company.
The overall job went really well. Hector's guys were able to do remove and install a heavy cast iron tub in around three days. They resolved some minor complications that I expected would arise in a 1920s era bathroom. They then installed a new shower handle and fixed the tile surrounding the tile. Overall, the job was well done and at a reasonable price. I estimated the price of labor so you can compare apples to apples since I paid a price that included the tub and other materials. I gave a B on responsiveness only because it was hard to initially get in touch and schedule the initial appointment, which included a missed appointment. Otherwise, Hector is very responsive by email. I would recommend Hector and his crew to anyone doing home renovations.
"Mr. [Members Name] (realtor) we apologize for any inconvenience. We had no problem following through with the original contract. Once you decided to change the scope of work both parties had to agree on the changes. The changes you made far exceeded the original agreement. We have no problem adjusting to changes as long as both party can agrees on all the terms. We agreed to the changes but we couldn't come to an agreement on the additional cost. A formal contract was signed, which was breached once the scope of the work changed and an agreement could not be made by both parties."
