HM Construction & Painting

I responded to Angies list referral Feb 27, 2026 for (NAMED REMOVED) of HM Construction and Painting. I met Tuesday 3-3-2026 with (NAMED REMOVED) I reviewed his license information, signed a contract and wrote a deposit check for $14,500. He scheduled a designer named (NAMED REMOVED) to come out Monday 3-9-2026. She arrived without paper, pen or laptop to take measurements. I discussed repurposing my China cabinet vs building another. On Monday (NAMED REMOVED) called to say the designer (NAMED REMOVED) will complete the design and send it to me in the current week. After the design is completed and innovation and adjustments are made then we were to discuss refrigerator spacing for a possible wider one. After the design, we can review the flooring, ceiling fan, back splash for stove and wall cabinet, plumbing water line for the refrigerator when making one for the dishwasher. On Saturday 3-21-2026 I called and emailed (NAMED REMOVED) regarding not hearing from anyone since he and designer Beatrice came out 3-9-2026. They were to contact me Monday 3-16-2026. I reminded him I paid $14,500. Helio emailed me Sunday 3-22-2026. He apologized and said (NAMED REMOVED) had a death in her family and went to Columbia. she has returned and would call me. (NAMED REMOVED) called Wednesday 3-25-2026 and apologized and we made an appointment for Friday 3-27-2026 at 5:30 pm. (NAMED REMOVED) did not show up or call. I contacted Helio via text, email and voicemail. I also texted and and called (NAMED REMOVED) and left voicemail. I called Angies List 888-811-2644 at 6:28 pm EST and spoke to (NAMED REMOVED); and filed a complaint. On Saturday 3-28-2026 (NAMED REMOVED) called me at work at 11:47 a.m. She said to call her when I got home and she would come by. I called her at 2 pm and she said she would get dressed and come by in 30 minutes. (NAMED REMOVED) arrived at 2:35 and left at 2:50 pm. She took the same measurements as before but this time she had an I-pad. She complained that (NAMED REMOVED) had not paid her yet. I told her that was between her and her employer contractor. My concern is that she does not show up or notify me that she was not coming. (NAMED REMOVED) said she texted me today and I said that our appointment was yesterday Friday at 5:30. (NAMED REMOVED) said that she fell down yesterday and she also has a daughter that she must be with at 5:30. I told her that she should not make an appointment that she can not keep. Also, she should not call me the next day to cancel yesterdays appointment. I inquired if she is the only designer that a large firm like HM Construction and Painting has. She asked why and would I like someone else. I said yes I would like someone that keeps their appointments and keeps me informed. She said she would tell (NAMED REMOVED) that I wanted someone else. I called (NAMED REMOVED)again 2:51 pm and left a voicemail to ask if a large firm like his has only one designer. Frustrated I called Angies List again and this time spoke with (NAMED REMOVED) She said she would reach out to HM Construction and Painting on the 4 contact numbers she had and if there was no answer, then I could proceed with with a complaint dispute or get another referral. My position is that I had already paid this contractor $14,500 and I want him to do the job or refund my deposit. Helio called at 3:24 pm while I was on the phone with Angies list. (NAMED REMOVED) said that he had 2 other designers working on projects and that he would see who was available and that he would call me back for next week. I requested Monday 3-30-2026 on my day off from work. We decided on 2pm Monday 3-30-026. (NAMED REMOVED) and the designer (NAMED REMOVED) came by together. Measurements were taken and a 3-D design was sent to me Tuesday 3-31-2026. I looked it over and responded April 1,2026. My kitchen design does not show a place or drawers for utensils (knives or forks) on the same side as the sink. Also on the wall where the TV is to be, there should be drawers that slide under the TV to recycle bottles and cans. Also in this draft I do not my current China cabinet repurposed and placed on the wall. I realize this is a draft and you told me to contact you. Helio responded that they would fix it. On Friday 4-3-2026 I inquired What is next? Are you beginning my project Monday April 6,2026 or am I awaiting another designer visit or a 3-D email? Also the draft 3D design displayed is not the Honey Spice Oak Wood or Shortbread Cherry Wood I selected. Whatever matches my China cabinet.

Last 5 months our house project done by H.M construction company in Danbury located many years experience. Total renovation done by H.M construction took care our kitchen, bathroom, foyer open up and degine with beautiful balusters, storage room,and many others areas needed,. Company fixed ,took care beautiful brand new now construction. My first time working with builder and staffs experience, lot to learn also .coordinates and passions. We are extremely happy with this company owner Mota Helio and his Amezing workers staffs has professional 👏 skills 👏 words are not enough 👏 Coming on time and finishing and cleaning after job by job we always expect ,they are very carefully took care 👌 every jobs. extremely happy with H.M construction and we HIGHLY recommend 100% . Used HM Construction for many projects inside home. They did a fantastic job on all projects. Completed remodels with doors, fabrication, cabinets, tile, closets and accent designs around home. Fair pricing. Great communication. Professional and polite crew. Clean and respectful of home. Highly recommend.

We were very pleased with the job performed. Helio's team expanded and renovated our small master bathroom. We took out a large closet and converted it into our shower. Once started, they worked quickly and efficiently. We did have a few small hiccups, namely using our garage to cut tiles and mix thinset, which created an exorbitant amount of dust coating my tools, bikes, and anything else that was stored in the garage. We also had an issue with the cleanliness of the home after some of the workers left, however, after we brought it to Helio's attention, he made sure to tell the team to do a better job moving forward. Contract was a little confusing, so I would encourage many questions to clarify things ahead of time such as timeline for selecting certain items, confirming when the next payments are due etc. All in all, we're pleased with the project and how it turned out.

If I could give 10 stars I would. HM construction did an amazing job renovating my basement. Helio was always available to me to answer any questions or concerns. They did quality work and went above and beyond what was agreed upon. Helio worked with my budget and never cut corners. I was so impressed I will be using them again in the near future to renovate my kitchen.

Very pleased with Helio’s work to add a full set of stairs, drop a ceiling, and finish an attic into a great third floor living space. Arranged for architect, permit, etc. - the full package!

HM Construction is remodeling the condo complex we live in. I was on the HOA board when we started looking for a contractor and HMC was far and away the best choice during our vetting process. Very happy with the end result! Helio is a man of his word. We refinished a basement and renovated the existing bathroom. Each member of the team brought their skill and expertise to the job and we couldn’t be more pleased! There were no surprise additional charges at the end and Helio went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the outcome of the job. Top notch finishing skills with Van and crew made the final finish details of the project outstanding! We look forward to working with HM Construction in the future!

This is our second time using HM Construction. First time we used them was to replaced our old deck with new composite decking and railing in which they did an amazing job! For our second project with the company we need old trim replaced on our home. The price was extremely fair and they completed the job thoroughly and well. The crew was always very polite and cleaned up all the garbage and dust from the job. We will most definitely use Helio and his team for future projects.

As always, Helio provides exceptional service. Helio’s team has done several painting and electrical projects for me now and I could not be more pleased. Most recently he returned to paint a garage door that he installed. He replaced and installed new hardware on an outside door and replaced some basement ceiling tiles for me. Always dependable, prompt, professional, and honest. HM Construction has my highest recommendation.

Work was excellent. All tradesmen were skilled, punctual, courteous and worked very neat and clean. Fit and finish of completed job was perfect. We would hire HM Construction again and would unreservedly recommend them

We had a very good experience with HM Construction. We had our kitchen and master bathroom remodeled. When we first met with Helio, he was very animated and excited about the project and gave us ideas as to what we can do and what we could expect. Other contractors that gave us estimates did not show any enthusiasm whatsoever. He had a kitchen designer to help us figure out the best design that worked for the kitchen and bath. Helio has a great team and a great project manager that supervised every detail to perfection. There were no hidden fees, no surprises and HM Construction we’re upfront and honest. The crew cleaned up and we’re very careful with our furniture by protecting it from dust and dirt during the demo process. HM Construction gave us a selection of cabinets and counter tops to choose from. The whole process was smooth and painless. The outcome surpassed our expectations and for this we recommend HM construction for any projects that you may have. If I could give 100 plus stars we would.

Helio and his crew were outstanding! This is the second time I’ve used his services. The first time was for installation of a new door. This time his team did a great job of painting a badly needed old office and a closet door and installing new light fixtures. Helio and his people were professional, courteous, efficient, and punctual. They were here every day, all day, until the job was done. I highly recommend HM Construction and painting!

The remodel went smooth. Helio and team stayed on schedule even with me throwing changes into initial plans. Helio communicated frequently and honestly throughout the process and remained close to the project. I’m looking forward to work with HM Construction on more projects soon!

We hire HM Construction to remodel our very old and outdated kitchen and adjoining bathroom. HM Construction previously worked on our den, and it was a no-brainer to go with them again for the next big project. HM's quote was fair and there were no hidden costs along the way. Helio is incredibly responsive and is always able to fairly address any issues that may arise during construction. HM got us in touch with a designer who came up with a floor plan that we never would have thought of otherwise. Our kitchen was a huge project and the results are unbelievable. The workmanship is top notch and we could not be happier. HM is trustworthy, fair, and does excellent work. We could not more highly recommend HM Construction for any home project.

We had a wonderful experience with HM CONSTRUCTION. We had Helio come see the basement and within a few days we had an estimate back. We were impressed at how honest and thorough the estimate was, no hidden costs. Once hired work began within two weeks and the team was consistently on site between 7:45 and 8, some nights staying past 7pm when something needed to be completed. Van, our project manager, was willing to work with us on ideas and took our Pinterest visions and turned them into our own (we were very prepared and had our vision for the project and wants noted) The project was completed ahead of schedule and we could not be happier! The built ins are beautiful, the new floors look great, well done paint job and perfect small bathroom. We highly recommend!
