Homan Garage Door

Installation went great, but .... On January 15, 2020, Ken from Homan Garage Door charged my elderly mother, who had used him for years and trusted him implicitly, $900 to install a garage door opener. Three other contractors (unfortunately after the fact) quoted us no more than $450. Be sure to get estimates before hiring him.  And do not let this man trick you into writing him a personal check, make sure you write it to the company. He cashed her check seemingly the moment he left her house. We could not put a hold on the check which we could have done had she written the check to Homan Garage Door. I spoke with him on January 16th, 2020 and he apologized for making this huge mistake on the bill, and said he was bringing her the $300 back. Since that time, my mother or I have spoken with him on several occasions, and also left voice mail messages. He even gave us dates and approximate times he would drop the over payment off. Then he was busy with a job in down the shore. Then he was waiting for a payment from the job down the shore. Then he was in Myrtle Beach on a job and forgot about the over payment he promised to return in January. Then he promised to deliver on the Friday of that week, in the morning some time. On January 31st, I requested he just mail her the check. He said OK. Followed up with him on February 6th as to whether or not he mailed the check and we've had no reply. And now his phones are temporarily disconnected.

We hired Ken to replace the spring on the torsion bar. He replaced with wrong spring and within days our garage door opener mysteriously stopped working so we hired him to replace this also. On Christmas day the torsion bar snapped and Ken was supposed to come out and fix within days. He claimed he put in an insurance claim and weeks went by with excuse after excuse on why he wasn't coming back out to fix it. Finally he agreed to refund the $700 we paid to do the jobs and to have someone else do the work. We are still waiting on the check weeks and nothing.

I called for service late this morning and the job was done before 4PM. One of my garage door cables broke on Christmas Eve. I called late this morning and within an hour Ken had called me back to make arrangements to come and see what I needed. He got here on time and proceeded to inspect my situation. I asked about my over 27 year old doors and openers and he said they were fine and recommended that I did not need new doors or openers. After testing and inspection he replaced all four springs, pulleys, cables and roller wheels. (I know I needed new springs and rollers as they were obviously worn and I had already replaced my springs about 10 years ago after two had snapped causing some damage to my walls when they did.) He then tested and adjusted the doors until they operated like new. He used upgraded rollers so I don't have to lubricate them. Both doors operate better and are quieter than before the cable broke. I think they are operating as good if not better than when they were new. He also noticed one of my hinges was oxidized and replaced that too before it broke. He gave me an extra hinge in case any ever break as that can seriously damage the door. Ken is very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. He worked very quickly and efficiently and explained everything to me as he worked. My doors and openers are over 27 years old and I could have been easily convinced to get new openers and new doors. By being honest and forthright he saved me several thousand dollars on items I did not need. I couldn't be happier with the service and work he provided. I will definitely use him again if the need arises. I highly recommend him. A top notch service provider.

AMAZING! Ken and his staff are life savers! Let me start with saying that my double car garage door had fallen completely off track and was laying on the ground over 4th of July week. I couldn't find one local or non local company that could (in my opinion wanted to) come and fix this on such a busy week. But, Ken was there the next day with all the material needed to get my garage door fixed. I couldn't thank him enough. HIGHLY recommend if your looking for a very experienced and reliable company for garage doors.

Ken arrived on Saturday morning (1/6/18) as promised. He made the repair and checked and lubricated the operation of the door mechanism as well as the door opener. Ken was a pleasure to work with. If there was a rating of A+ for responsiveness, he deserves it. We would definitely contact him again if needed.

Ken returned my call within the hour. He went by my house to inspect and gave me a quote the same day! I also wanted framing done with the new door and he was able to arrange to have that done with another contractor he works with. By the end of the same week, Ken, Greg and his team installed a new door, new opener and framing to match. Both vehicles were stuck in our garage. Ken came out quickly and worked to get cables back on pulleys so the door could be opened. Then he came back in a day to replace the torsion spring. Fast service and quality work. Definitely recommend.

It went very smoothly. I had tried many time before to get my door replaced, but without success. Homan's owner Ken, showed up when he sad he would, gave me my estimate, which was thousands lower than others for the same exact door. The door came in when it was supposed too and Ken and his associate showed up (exactly on time), and did the install. The job was quickly and cleanly done. Ken was wonderful to deal with and I have already distributed his card to a number of friends who need garage work done.? There's nothing like a good honest contractor to take the stress out of job! <p>When I originally reached out to Ken, he was working on another job and that he needed to finish that job prior to starting my job.  We ended up trading texts throughout the next few days attempting to align schedules.  Ken was super responsive to all messages and I appreciated that he stayed on the previous job in order to complete it prior to starting my job.  It showed focus and dedication to a completed project.  He kept me updated to let me know his availability and we eventually had mutually agreeable times.  When he arrived, he was prompt, courteous, professional and knowledgeable.  He was also funny!  You can tell he loves what he does.  He let me know that I did not need to replace the garage doors (something a different company stated we did need to do), but could get a few repairs completed to get the doors back up and operational.  Within the hour, both of my doors were working and the fix was within budget.  </p> <p>When it is time to replace my doors, I will be calling Ken!  He is a professional and he wasn't out to make a quick buck- he was more interested in doing the right thing- which in itself maintains customer satisfaction- which is definitely building his customer base.  I've referred him to a few of my friends and family already.  Top notch! </p> <p><br></p>

 Called on Tuesday at 10AM, Ken was at my home by noon for the estimate on Tuesday.  The old door was removed and new one installed with a garage door opened before noon on Thursday the same week.  Great service. <br>

Everything kicked off to a great start but unfortunately the job was never completed.  Ken came out on a weekend to assess our garage door openers that had been failing to respond and were extremely loud.  I was very appreciative of the weekend appointment.  We determined that it didn't make sense to fix the existing openers and to install new ones.  Ken also agreed to add two keypads to open the doors from the outside.  We scheduled a date and Ken was accommodating when I needed to reschedule.  He arrived for the appointment on time and installed the garage door openers as expected.  We are very pleased with the work that was performed.  However, he only included one keypad.  Unfortunately this was not identified right away so my husband called Ken on his cell later that night and he agreed that had forgotten to include the second keypad.  He said he would be by later that week on Thursday or Friday to add it.  He never showed.  My husband called again, and again he said he would be by on a Thursday or Friday to add the keypad.  Still didn't show.  Since calls to his cell phone didn't work, I called the main number and left a message.  I received a text back saying that he was doing jobs at the shore and would be by Friday or Saturday to add the keypad.  Since he never showed the first two times, I asked if we could schedule an appointment on Friday or Saturday.  No response to that text.  Friday and Saturday pass and he doesn't call or show.  At this point, we are disappointed and moving on.  It's a small piece of the job that was left unfinished, but we felt as though it was very unprofessional.  They received their money so there was no drive to complete this last step.  We were very diligent about following up and got the run around every time.  So it's your call, I think he did good work but make sure that it all gets done the first time around or he may never show up again. <br />

I called yesterday, 2/3/16 for an estimate to have our garage door replaced; Ken (the owner) came out within an hour, assessed the situation, gave us what we felt was a fair price, and set up the appointment for today, 2/4/16 to do the work. As promised, Ken called ahead when they were on their way, arrived right on time and got right to work.  The new door looks and works great.  My husband, Ed and I are completely pleased with the work done and would definitely use them again if the need came up.  I would also be happy to recommend them to our friends and family. <br />

Prompt, efficient, on time as promised. He had what I needed on the truck so fixed my door right away. His price was also very reasonable. I have used Homan in the past, and I would never use anyone else. He is fair and knows what he is doing. Very accommodating and knowledgeable. Also, very pleasant to talk with.
