"It is unfortunate that the client feels this way. However, what they paid our company, and approved of in writing, was a design fee. The client did receive the design as well as a set of blueprints Oftentimes the building department will request changes be made to blueprints. The set of prints we issued the client came with the ability to have the architect make changes at no additional charge. Our company did issue the client a refund of $23,000+ which was a construction deposit. As the client spent more and more of their loan money in other places/areas, it became apparent that they would likely not have the funds to pay for the entirety of their construction. As such, our company voided the construction contract and refunded their deposit to avoid being stuck with expenses at the end of construction, which the client would not be able to pay. We did fulfill the Design contract and then refund and cancel the construction contract. As to not answering their calls, this is untrue as our Jobs Superintendent did speak with them via telephone and offer to assist in working with the architect to make the necessary changes. The client did not follow through in giving our Superintendent a list of the items that needed to be changed by the architect."
"While I sympathize with this client, having been fired from his job the day we began work on his bathroom, he was immediately given the opportunity to cancel the project/contract with no penalties or charges. He chose to move forward and even ordered fixture and finish upgrades (from basic to high end, which of course come with a higher price tag). This client reference to *always trying to get more money from you* is in regard to our company attempting to collect for these upgrades, for which we had already paid our suppliers. Unfortunately, the client got himself in over his head by continuing with the project and then adding other projects such as hiring yet another contractor, at the same time, to replace all of the flooring in his house. As to our company quality of work, the client bragged to his neighbors about how pleased he was with his new bathrooms. So to say we did not do the work *according to the contract...* is inaccurate. The client simply wanted his new bathrooms at a lower cost than what he had contracted for and did not want to pay for the upgrades, which he ordered."
