Honest Handyman

"My first encounter with this customer was her showing up 45 min late to our scheduled estimate. After that , all communication was done through her realtor. I started the job on time, asked for no money up front, and even had things added to the job. After the first week, the owner and the realtor came by to see how things were progressing. I showed them all the things that were done. The response at that time were "great. It looks great so far." At that time several more items were added to the list of things to do. Later the next week i was contacted by the realtor and asked if i was going to be done as scheduled. I said no, you added things to the list, it will be another day atleast before i will be done. She didnt like that response and said i ahould have told her. This is where i started to question things. They both assumed i would be done in the same time even though you added several new tasks to my list. These tasks were not small repairs but things that would take quite a bit of time. They day that i was to receive payment i contacted the realtor to find out when i could get a check. The response i received was that the home owner forgot her check book. I did receive a partial payment that day. Monday morning i received an email from the realtor with a list of 16 things that were notto their satisfaction. Several of the items were things i was never hired to repair, a few of the items listed had things that they saw the first week and had said it looks great. 1 of the things listed was that i didnt use oil based paint when painting the baseboards. Almost nobody uses oil basex paint anymore. As i continued to read the list i started to get frustrated. I will admit that the worked i had paint the base boards didnt do a good job and its my fault for not suppervising him or checking his work. The rest of the list just didnt seem to add up. After a few emails back and forth with the realtor, the owner wanted to pay a lot less than what was due. I sent all the emails and text messages to a few friends of mine and several of them informed me that its a scam. She wanted all the work done and not pay the full amount. I was also told that with the realtor involved that she is being unethical but trying to stay out of it by acting as a middle man. I contacted the cleaning company that also worked at the house and she informed me that they were doing the same thing to them. All in all i will say that i made 2 mistakes on this job. 1 being the baseboards and 2 was a ceiling patch which i believe looked good when i was done but she insists looks horrible. I had offered to go back and fix the problems but was told no they will hire somenone else to do it. I did agree to a lower price on the job in the end and im still waiting on a final check. As far as me being professional, if i wasnt professional i would have mentioned the realtors name many times in this response so that any future customers or contractors would be aware before woking with her."
