they finished in the dark without any lights... but it looked ok. it just was not compacted in places. when I asked Jimmy Young about it he said it was supposed to look like that and that "if it I had any cracks in the next year he would come back and fit them". it was also in the contract we signed. now he says no he won't fix it. I have lots of photos of the different areas that are falling apart so I can see that it also was not all 2.5" thick asphalt in the areas they finished in the dark, which is where most of the problems are. I had to write out 6/ six $2000 checks to "Jimmy Young" not "hot top paving". that should have been clue number one!! I should have picked the next best estimate! so with Jimmy and hot top paving, let the buyer beware / caveat emptor! you get what you pay for...

After going back and forth on price and speaking with Jimmy Young, Tony and Adam all of which claimed to be the boss we settled on $52,000 for the work. being a non profit drug and alcohol program this was a big chunk. When they started We gave Jimmy a check for $26,000 made out to Hot Top Paving. He then told us that an employee had stolen their credit card and bank info and if we could make it out to Jimmy Young. That was uncomfortable but they had trucks and machinery there so we took the risk. I assumed that he would deposit it in his account but he went straight to our bank to cash it and of course they called. me. I had to go down there as he had no bank account and the story was fishy. I withdrew 26K in cash and handed it to him as he said he had to pay the asphalt company. Later on we found out that the tack glue which is usual and customary had not been applied and that was a concern. The next day, Adam proceeds to get in an argument with our facilities person over the tack glue and they proceed to pack up and leave. The job is about 1/4 done and we are out $26,000. Everyone we spoke to says that the tack glue should have gone on first and that their saying they had special asphalt mixed up was bogus. We cannot afford this loss and have reached out to the District Attorney's office in Buncombe and will with Cabarrus as well. I would NOT use them !!!!! and we are looking to file an action against them as a company and individually. If anyone has any negative stories about them and I have read several, there may be an opportunity to make this right.

If you are looking for jimmy on the spot he is your guy (no pun) but quality is not what he is about. He did not pack the asphalt down well and now we have loose asphalt all over that keeps coming up. What made us made more was he gave us a quote for the total job then after he started the job wanted more money for a section that was supposed to be included. Then he recently told me it would be an additional $1800. My advice is get things in writing with Jimmy. Stay away. He is a rip off. Do not recommend.

Jimmy was prompt and courteous with his phone calls. With in 3 days from the first phone call Jimmy and his team where there to do the job. This team where polite and courteous. My concrete driveway was in very bad shape but when they where finished it looked outstanding. The pavement was thick and even and I can't stress enough how good it looks. I highly recommend them.

Jimmy called me shortly after submitting a request for a quote. He came over that night to quote and wanted to pave the following day since he apparantly needed the work. He had the least expensive quote and had a few good reviews so I opted to have them pave the next dry day (2 days from signing). They showed up to pave and were responsive about any requests that I had. His team were all nice to me, but they cussed him like a sailor as they worked. Some sections too small for machinery had to be done by hand and overall turned out uneven and thin/wavy. Then they moved onto the driveway. They ran out of asphalt as Jimmy apparently miscalculated his needs and asked for $1,500 more dollars to cover his "loss" on the project. I could only afford another $300 ($7,300 total) as I was rushed into paving anyway. It was nearing 5:00 and Jimmy asked for me to write him a check (in his name, not the company name) so he could rush to the bank and cash it to "pay his asphalt supplier". I was uneasy about that as the driveway wasn't finished but I obliged. They did finish the driveway after I paid him. Overall, most of the driveway looks ok. The section they shoveled/tamped by hand is uneven, wavy, and thin in some spots. The section where the driveway connects to the road isn't thick enough and became wavy as well. My biggest complaint is a huge dip in the driveway. It's right in front of the sidewalk leading to the front door. I texted Jimmy a couple days after completition. It had rained and created a huge puddle of water which will damage the asphalt over time and makes it impossible to walk to the front door during/after rain without getting your feet wet. At first he played it off and said it would be fine. When I was persistent, he finally agreed to bring out some asphalt repair to fill in the dip. That was nearly 6 weeks ago. I text him weekly to see when he's coming and, at first, he would eventually respond with an excuse for why he couldn't come that week. He eventually just quit responding. So, if you're looking for cheap asphalt, Jimmy is your guy. But you'll get what you pay for. I'm noticing a lot of loose stones on the top of my driveway so I'm hopeful I can seal it in the spring and the entire thing not simply erode way. I cannot recommend this company for anyone who wants a professional company to do a professional job.

Excellent Service and Workmanship. Fair Quote; Very Responsive; Completed Job in very timely manner. Most Importantly DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT. Can't ask for more than that in today's world. On Time as promised. Very conscientious and exceeded overall expectations. Would Hire again and highly recommend.

Well. Punctual, fast, and decent quality.

Jimmy and his crew showed up when expected. They were very courteous and answered all my questions. They were very good at their job and you could tell they knew what they were doing. They were very fast and accurate with their job. We are very pleased with the job that they performed for us and how good our driveway looks. I would highly recommend this paving company.

They came out very quickly to give us a quote. We pointed out several problem spots that would be tricky, like a downspout that was below ground and came out on the edge of the driveway. All of the spots were no problem (they said). They returned as promised and put down the asphalt. They gave us a written guarantee for year and promised to return the following week to see if there were problems. They never returned. There were several problems, many of which we had pointed out ahead of time. The downspout exit is now higher than than the low spot so it is a mosquito breeding ground. There are several low spots in the driveway where water doesn't run off. I have called and texted. They have promised on at least three occasions to return to fix the problems. They haven't and only once did they notify us that they wouldn't be coming. Their guarantee is useless. They will tell you they can do whatever, but they don't . If you have a very straight forward job with no tricky spots and the bed is already prepared, it will probably be OK otherwise don't use them.

This went excellent. I had several quotes and chose Hot Top Paving because of the outstanding phone call and quote owner Jimmy gave me. And he personally came out before the job and went over everything with me. I felt real comfortable with that. He was not the lowest bid, nor the highest. But he spent the most amount of time thoroughly explaining the process and answered all my questions before any worked started. I feel like I got the best best job done for the money and I am extremely pleased with the job performed. My driveway looks outstanding and really adds to the curb appeal of my home! Jimmy and his crew arrived on the exact day and time promised, and his crew was very polite and professional.

the subcontractor to Hot Top, (Al's paving) arrived as agreed and did the job quickly. they did miss a small spot that i pointed out to them the following week. they promised to return and cover the spot, but they have not done so. it has been over 2 weeks now. their phones are now disconnected and there is no way to communicate with the sub contractor who did the actual work.

I gave them a call. They came out to check it. They did it the next day. They were great company. They did an awesome job. My neighbor hired them as well. They came their without hesitations. They were punctual. They didn't tried to do anything wrong. I was pleased with them.
