Go with HousePro for your HVAC maintenance/repair/replacement needs - you will not be disappointed! They were by far the best HVAC company of the four that I evaluated for a full home A/C system replacement. You know how you usually get the feeling like you’re getting ripped off by these sales guys? You will not get that feeling with HousePro. They are very direct, professional, and will not waste your time or their own trying to squeeze additional money out of you. They charge fair market prices for all their products and services, and guarantee any work they do. Murray, owner of HousePro, came over to my house to give me an estimate. He walked me through the entire system, showing me inefficiencies and other issues with the existing HVAC setup, which was original from the home builder 12 years ago. After doing the system walk through, we sat down in my dining room together and talked very practically about my options. He was by far the most thorough in his explanations of any of the companies I talked to, even going so far as to do some back of the envelope calculations right then and there to ensure that a 4 ton unit was sufficient (when I had been told by the other companies I needed a 5 ton unit, which would have been more expensive and less energy efficient given the size of my home). He went back to the office and confirmed the calculations were correct in his computer program. I trusted these guys so much that I actually had them perform the job while I was on a day trip out of town. The job took longer than expected since it involved a lot of re-ducting, so we had to schedule a follow-up visit. They came back and finished the job the following week. I noticed that the cooling wasn’t quite even throughout the upstairs, so I called them and they came back to make some tweaks. The house now has well balanced airflow, making for a comfortable environment and with a more efficient system than I had before.

I am part of the Silver Protection Plan and it was time to have someone come out to perform a routine checkup on my system. I scheduled a 9:30 a.m. appointment and to my delight Raj, the technician who would be performing my system checkup called me and asked if he could come earlier at 9:00, which I happily agreed to. It’s always nice to have someone come earlier than expected, when companies usually run way behind the estimated window they give you. Raj was very professional and explained everything in detail regarding what he found. After talking it over with him I decided to replace a failing capacitor on my upstairs unit. He quickly and efficiently got the job done and overall the experience was very pleasant.

Took 3 days to "complete". Tech had much personal life to attend to during install. Left job "completed" with little air to two rooms along with new vent in kitchen, leaving the old one right beside it. That was a year ago this month. Have had follow ups with conditions remaining the same. Now AC is out in 90 degree weather on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and no call back. Under warranty and want to charge $95 for after hour call.

Identified and fixed a problem. We have used HousePro for 11 years, including the installation of 2 entire HVAC systems and a subsequent energy audit with further energy improvement modifications. Have had annual inspection contract for the entire time. Also used them for some small system modifications. This organization is prompt, thorough and responsive.

The place is very incompetent. I will never use them again. They tried to pull a fast one on us and say that nothing was covered under the warranty. That's why it took almost eight weeks for our A/C to get fixed. The way they were writing the tickets, I had to fight it out with the home warranty and with this place. I ended up telling them directly that I will never use them again because of how rude and particularly nasty the customer service lady was. I had to show proof that I did some service and I thought that that was so unprofessional. Our A/C was not working. They said, "Oh, it's a fan. You need to get it replaced." So, we got the fan replaced through the home warranty. Within a week, our A/C was still not working. Then they said, "Oh, well, you need to get this done and this done and this done." I said, "I just recently got all of my coils cleaned and stuff like that." They said, "Well, they're still dirty." What ended up happening, we found out, they actually take pictures of the stuff. The pictures that they provided to my home warranty were actually not of my house. I was able to prove that by saying, "That's not even my house," of the pictures that they were providing of the dirty coil lines and stuff like that. We ended up using someone else because of the way that they were treating us. We had the service done and they came back out because there was still a problem. Then, we were able to figure out that Freon needed to be added to our A/C line. Then they had to replace the circuit board which they did. But, I'm still not happy with them because of the way that they treated me. It took almost eight weeks to get it fixed. In Houston, you need an A/C all the way through November and December sometimes. I didn't like them at all. I did like the service techs that went out. They were nice and professional. It was the office staff that I was not impressed with and the one guy that did go out. I'm not sure if he was the one that sent the pictures to my home warranty or if it was the office. They were trying to sell me this yearly service, maintenance thing for an extreme amount of money and trying to get me to sign up for all this other stuff because they didn't want to do the work through the home warranty because they get a limited amount of money from them. They wanted me to sign up with some monthly maintenance program or something. I was not impressed. That's why I didn't like the office. What they ended up doing, did work, eventually. I paid $65 because it was through my home warranty.
Response from Housepro Inc
"I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with HousePro. However, I believe there was some issue with communication here. You reference "the way they were writing tickets" as creating the issue with home warranty coverage. It must not have been explained to you that per your home warranty contract you are required to perform annual maintenance that is not covered by the home warranty. In the event of a failure, if a lack of maintenance contributed to the cause you are responsible for the cost of the maintenance before the repair is completed (the repair is still covered). After reviewing your call on I have question where this information regarding the photos not bring your home came from? Both visits to your home on 9/15/15 and the next visit on 9/18/15 clearly show the system has not properly been maintained. The photos clearly show significant dirt build up on your blower wheel, which more than likely caused your system to overheat and burn up the circuit board on your subsequent work order. The photos are date and time stamped and do not allow any provision for the technician to manipulate them. From the language you are using to describe the maintenance needed I can see the technician failed to convey your issues correctly. A "dirty coil line" is not an issue and not something we would submit to the warranty. The key maintenance issues were a dirt condenser coil, evaporator coil, and blower wheel. On behalf of the customer service person you spoke with we would like to apologize. We strive to offer the highest level of customer service and train our employees to be as helpful as possible and will continue to stride towards improvement."

Despite good ratings given on the initial install of my 2 systems by HousePro, I am finally fed up with dealing with this contractor and will not use again. They never contacted me to schedule my Spring Gold Plan inspection. I noticed one system not cooling adequately in June, so I called to set up that inspection and get this unit checked out at the same time.

I took off work to be home during the appointment, and no one showed up. I called and the same lady I spoke with during scheduling the appointment, now had no record of scheduling me. I was upset that I missed work for a no-show. We rescheduled for the following week. When they finally did come out, the unit was found to be leaking coolant (for the third time in several years), and repairs not lasting. During a follow-up repair, the cocky young technician blamed the previous HousePro technician. His repair then failed to hold a week later. I then called another company who diagnosed a coolant leak in my coil, and replaced it under warranty. No problems since.

Problems I have had with HousePro:

1. Every time HousePro sends someone out, it's a kid fresh out of AC tech school. The most experienced person I've had could not have been more than 22 years old. The cocky guy I mentioned above put coolant in my upstairs unit from my backyard, and started packing up his gear to leave. I asked if he was going to go upstairs to check that it is working, and he said, "Sir...I've been doing this for five years - I know what I'm doing." This is a sticking point for me because their hourly rates are quite high compared to other AC companies, and you should get what you pay for.

2. Upselling. Every chance they get, they try to sell you more. UV lights. Surge protection. Nitrogen drain ports. If all this was necessary, it should have been installed when they put the original system in. Their semi-annual inspections feel like buying a used car.

3. Problems caused by technicians. On 3 different occasions, within a week after a maintenance inspection, one of my units quit working. This makes me highly suspicious that the technicians broke something during maintenance.
Air conditioner was overcharged with R-22. They did remove it for free; however, the system stopped cooling at peak hours. Had them recheck, and they told my wife that we needed a new compressor for 5000$ or a new system, 5 ton and 3 ton, american standard with new heater for 15000$. Called another agency, they noted that the system still was overfilled, corrected the mistake for 120$ and is currently working great.
The ducts and a new AC unit were installed in October 2013. The workers never showed up on time and left a lot of their trash in the attic buried under the insulation, and there was no follow-up inspection on the work performed.
On May19, 2014 we had a housepro technician come out and evaluate why our AC was not cooling properly and why there was water standing in the pans under each of the attic units. At this time the technician told us not to worry about the water that it was the result of a malfunctioning blower motor. He drained five gallons of water from the pans. According to the technician, who was also the system designer for the work done in October 2013, the workers failed to attach surge protectors to each of the units in the attic which in turn resulted in a malfunctioning blower motor going undetected to the point that it finally died and needed to be replaced. Strangely, there were no surge protectors recommended in the initial October 2013 design.
It took over two weeks for the blower motor to be replaced, during which time there was no air conditioning available to the first floor of our house and not one status update from housepro until we called to inquire about the new part. It should be noted that we also had a surge protector installed for each of the attic units to the tune of $250 each.
On June 7 around 8:30 p.m., we heard a dripping sound coming from the entry way foyer. It was at this time that we noticed water running down our stairway walls, a wet, bulging ceiling, and the paint on the crown molding starting to blister. We went to the attic and saw a steady drip of water coming from the unit which had just had the blower motor replaced. We placed a bucket under the drip and turned off the unit. We called housepro and spoke to an emergency help line attendant who told us that there were no technicians available to come and fix our problem. It wouldn't be until the following day when a technician could come by.
Sunday morning, around 10 a.m., Pete, the housepro technician arrived and we went into the attic. He tore off the black rubber insulation surrounding the pvc lines from the attic units and discovered that there were three sections that had come unglued and were causing the leak damaging the ceiling, walls, crown molding and filling the pans under the units with water.
We took pictures of the unglued lines and joints and the damage done to our house and submitted them to housepro but never heard back from anyone. When we'd call for answers as to how they wanted to handle the repairs, it was always someone will call you tomorrow. No one ever called. This went on for a week without no one showing any concern about fixing the damage.
It wasn't until I threatened to have my lawyer call them that they sent a representative of Global Painters & Remodeling to view the damage and arrange for a time when his crew could come out and start with the repairs. Asdrubal Russo, project manager for Global Painters promised to do a professional job, replace all the damaged drywall and the crown molding, and paint the entire ceiling and stairway walls so that it wouldn't look like a patchwork fix. It was all lip service. He and his crew decided to patch the crown molding rather than replace it, used a paint color different from the one used by our painters last year to paint the entry way walls and only painted the affected areas, leaving it like patchwork fix. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable, but what I expected from housepro.
It's not over yet. It will be fixed properly and housepro and I will have to settle in court.

They put it in and it turned out that it was very noisy. I paid by check because it was so noisy that my neighbor's could hear it. I have bunch of pools around, so it is a little louder. Over the years, they have serviced my air conditioner and heating services. Their service work is excellent. They did a fantastic duct work, but the salesman was my problem because of the noisy air conditioning. They replaced it, but they didn't tell me the brand that they gave me and the ratings were different. They came and told me that they would give me a brand new air conditioner. They asked me what I wanted. It was supposed to be efficient. They replaced it with one I asked for and what I asked for wasn't efficient enough. I have been talking to them for a year now. It is really hard. They charged me too much for what it was.

The experience was AWFUL. The worst thing I have had to go through in my house. We hired them b/c they sent out a sales technician who was extremely knowledgeable which led us to believe they held that same standard for all their employees. We hired them to come take down the old broken system and install a whole new system with furnace. The day of installation they forgot to bring the right piston for the AC system so they told us they would have to come back the next day to install the correct piston and drain and refill the freon. So they did but when we got home that evening the AC was blowing out hot air. It was 4th of July and we had all of our family members coming over, our house was a near 90 degrees until 5pm that evening when they showed up to tell us that they didn't refill the freeon when they were supposed to. After about 3 weeks from installation, we wake up at 5am to a huge water leak coming into our formal living room exactly underneath the AC system. We called one of their techs to come out and in his own words said "it looks like a 12 year old installed your system!" After several days of trying to contact the owner and getting the run around they came to fix all the damage. We wanted them to take out the system but they kept throwing "free" things to us and they just kept moving forward with fixing all the damage. They finally came to fix everything and offered us 3 year gold service plan for free and they told us they could cut us a check for $500 for all our troubles. We have yet to receive the $500 check. We keep calling and they keep telling us that several checks were sent out to us - they blatantly have lied to us several times and the owner has not acted professional with us - he refuses to talk to us and the company keeps giving us the run around. I will NEVER go to them again.
HousePro was dispatched by First American Home Warranty to repair a leaking AC unit it my attic. They diagnosed the problem (a rusted condenser coil inside the unit), and it took a few weeks for the part to come in. Upon installation, they did not push the unit all the way in, so that it stuck out and the door would not close properly. I know this because I had some routine maintenance done on the unit a few months later, and they had to tape all the connections because it was not installed correctly. Once the condenser is installed and connected, you can't really move it, so I am stuck with this poor install job. The repair was covered by my home warranty, so I did not have to pay for any of it.
I did ask them to install an inline filter kit (not sure of the exact name), so that if the unit does overlow again, that it will shut off the unit and not flood my ceiling again. That install was fine and I paid for that part myself.
The other thing that happened is that the technicial, unbenown to me, signed me up for the montly Gold Service Plan at $40/mo. This was not fully disclosed to me when I signed off on all the repairs. I already have AC repair coverage through my home warranty company, why would I spend almost the same amount on a second AC maintenance plan? I would not. I called to get the plan canceled, and I was told that they would not refund the past charges because I signed the form. I have disputed the charges with my credit card and submited my reasoning to the credit card company, so they can take it up with them. I would recommend looking elsewhere for AC repair.
Making my appointment was easy. The tech arrived on time, with a courtesy call ahead of time. The Tech was also professional and honest with my problem. I was house sitting for a friend in the 77079 area of Houston (Dairy Ashford). The overflow pipe in the ceiling had been dripping into her sink. When we checked the system we found the pan was full of water and slimy stuff. My friend has a home warranty contract with American Home Shield and Housepro is one of their contractors with whom she has had prior good experience.
This was not an emergency call but we did want it taken care of quickly. The call was put in quite late last night and she was called back mid-morning with the promise that Housepro would come between 1 and 5 and would call half an hour before arrival. Juan called at about 3:30 pm and arrived at about 4:15 pm. He was very pleasant, nicely dressed, and got down to business quickly and quietly. He asked if there was a step ladder he could borrow and said that the one I brought out was ideal, better than the one he would have got out of his truck (because the ceiling is rather low and his step ladder is tall and he did not need a tall one).
He left the area clean, returned the step ladder to its place, and was gone again within half an hour.
We were looking for a contractor to replace our HVAC system. The house is 30 years old, we wanted to have new ductwork, heater, condenser, everything. I was going to get several bids, and Housepro was the first bid I got, they quoted about $12,000 originally. I got a couple other bids and some as low as $7,500. We were in the process of gathering the funds for the job, and the sales rep from Housepro called to follow-up and I let them know about the other lower bids and gave them all the details, They asked if they could come and offer a new quote. We had them come and discuss the job and more details, and they offered to do the job for $7,300. We agreed, and they set an appointment for the "engineer" to come and do an analysis for the size of the unit, and ducts we would need and plan the job. Part of the process was that I wanted to move the return air vents back to their original placement closer to ground level (they had been moved closer to ceiling level during prior renovations). They talked me out of doing the right thing and moving the return air vents for the sake of the cost involved.

When they showed up to do the job, we had prior discussed both mine and my wife's name both be on the paperwork, but they brought paperwork with only my name. The contract called for a 14 seer unit but they brought a 13 seer unit. Had I not been there, I would have been given the wrong unit. The "engineer" was nothing more than a service tech who could draw and they used a computer program to determine the duct and unit size which would be the minimum required capacity.

One thing we wanted worked on was a small room in our house with 3 vents, one of which was working. We had asked to have a dead return air vent to be reactivated, and we wanted to have a dead supply vent to be used, and the active supply vent to be covered up. The dead vents were used, but the supply vent we asked to be covered, was not. They didn't change the grill and they didn't replace the dead vent. They put the wrong grills on in our living room. It caused cold spots in the room where the vents were blowing in the wrong direction. When they came out to replace the vents the cracked the drywall. The paint-line from the previous grill is now visible where they didn't try to cover up the old paint line, which now I have to hire a painter to come fix the line where they didn't match up the grill, and I have to hire a drywall person to fix the crack they caused. I'm not satisfied with the cooling capacity of the unit.

I had to ask for a thermostat, which they had, but were not going to install, then they put it in, and gave no instruction, other than the book.

They were willing to work with us on payment for the job, but after we had given 2 of the 3 agreed upon payments, their comment was that they had "made enough money on this job". I had called them about the drywall and the vents and the owner said he had been waiting on me to call to schedule something during the week.

For the work they did, I believe I could have gotten someone off the street to do better quality work. They supposedly offer a guarantee, but I have serious doubts about that.
