I bought a Big Deal in March. Hoyt was quick to provide an estimate. Contacting him after for clarification and scheduling was problematic. I received no response for a long time. I only got a response after calling Angie's List to inquire about a refund. <br /> I booked the work anyway. Hoyt's team starts work around 10. or 10:30.. or later. When pressed, he responds with "his guys live kinda far away." There was no consistency with their work 'routine.' <br /> The Big Deal was for the labor, so I provided the new floor, underlayment, stain, moulding, etc., and moved all of my furniture out of the rooms being done. His guys demo'd just fine. Their clean-up however was lacking. At the end of the first day, there were large splinters, paper, nails, trash, etc. all around the rooms. They had made a 3' path outlined with the new floor boxes showing my family where it was "safe to walk" Outside of the path, nail heads and other sharp things were everywhere. Also, when they left, they left soda bottles on my front porch and in my front yard as well as a pack of cigarettes on my mantle. <br /> On the second day, I told them that their clean up was unaccectpable. They apologized and did a little better the rest of the week. The second and third days, there was a neater pile of trash in the corner of the room, but the front porch (where they had set up their saw to cut the floor) was covered in sawdust. <br /> On the last day, I had to ask them twice to come back in an finish sweeping. In general, they seem to treat their customer's house like they are working at one of their buddy's houses. Loose start and stop times. No regard for safety or clean up. <br /> In terms of the work itself, it's decent. We originally has half-inch 1/4 round, and we were told they would get that close to the walls so we could put the same size back down. They didn't. There are gaps at the edges that are barely covered by three-quarter-inch 1/4 round. Even though there is extra flooring material, they didn't bother to check their edges as they went. <br /> I asked they use a reducer (which I provided) between the kitchen floor and the dining room floor and between the living room floor and the tile in front of a fireplace and he argued that we didn't really need it. His intent was to run the edge of the board up against the other flooring with no transition. <br /> I bought a can of stain that matched the floor -- at his request -- because materials were not included in the big deal. He didn't end up using the stain I bought, but rather a can of his own (perhaps left over from another job). <br /> Overall, I am not particularly satisfied with Hoyt Flooring. The Big Deal did save us money, and his price was already lower than other estimates we received, but I would not use this company again, and I would question how the Big Deal companies are selected. The communication, service, and experience were all lacking. <br />

Justin was very professional. When he was unable to complete the work on the original scheduled date, he called in advance and explained the situation as to why he needed to come out the following week. The job took three days to complete. Justin and another worker had to remove the toilet in the half bath. There was a $50 charge for that job. When it came time to reinstall the toilet, Justin discovered it needed new bolts and he went out right away to purchase them. He came back shortly and completed the job. He took the time to explain how to care for the floor afterwards. The finished floor looks very nice and we are happy with the final product. I only wish the cleanup from the dust would have been a little more thorough. Other than that, I would definitely hire Justin again if the need arises. <br />

The work was scheduled for the week of April 20th. He delayed the original date to start either the 7th or 8th of May. He came out and started the job on May 7th He started working that morning at 9:30 and was done for the day at 3:30. He told me he did not get much work done and he would need to come back the next day. He said he needed register vent which I brought to him and when I arrived, right before lunch time, he was sitting in his truck with his partner. They said they had to stop all the work because they ran into a problem. There were huge gaps in the wood boards. They told me they could not fix the issue and I would just have to live with it. They seemed inexperienced and like they wanted me to tell them how to do their job. He said he would contact his mentor to figure out how to handle the issue. They left and I did not hear from them for a whole day. When they did call me back, he said there was no solution to the problem and they could just put wood filler in the gaps. They said if I did not provide a solution, they would have to move on to another job. I called for a second opinion and they said it was an easy fix. I passed on the information to Hoyt. He did not respond. On 5/13/2015 he said he could not do the work and I needed to contact Angie’s List for a refund.

He was very responsive to calls and scheduled us pretty promptly after we bought the Angie's Big Deal. He had a tiny bit of trouble being at our house when he thought he would be over the 3 days it took to do the job due to his heavy work load. He was trying to juggle quite a few jobs while he was doing our job. Otherwise, he did everything as promised. We will hire him to do several rooms on our first floor. <br />

Justin and his associate did a wonderful job. The floor is over 100 years old and the end result is beautiful. The price with our Angie's list deal couldn't be beat and the majority of the job was done in one day (had to come back for about an hour the following morning to apply final coat). Very little dust, fast and friendly service with a very good outcome - I highly recommend! <br /> <br />

<p>Overall I would have to say this was a disappointing experience. I purchased a BigDeal and it took forever to get my project scheduled. I had a small job and maybe that's why it took so long. After the work was finally scheduled the job took 2 days to complete. Day 1 the floor was completely sanded & coat one laid down. However there was wood dust left over in places throughout the room. They need to clean their filters better before starting another job. To me, this is just plain laziness and unacceptable. Day 2, the second coat was applied, screened and clear-coated. After about two weeks I had noticed that they did not do a piece right in the doorway and a small strip behind the supply vent. It's actually the same piece of flooring. It looks horrible and I can't believe no one noticed it until well after the job was completed. We had carpet put down and those guys are the ones that pointed it out to us.. We were so embarrassed. I ended up doing that piece myself and it was a complete pain in the ***. </p> <br />

First, I'll say that Justin did a great job on my floor, and it looks wonderful. However, he and I got off on the wrong foot when he failed to show up for the first appointment. I called after an hour, and he said he had been on another job that took longer than he thought it would and had forgotten to bring my telephone number. We reset the appointment, and Justin showed up on time. We agreed on a date quite a bit in the future because of his busy schedule and my travel plans. When we returned from our trip, since a couple of months had passed, I e-mailed Justin to remind him of the date we had agreed on, as my husband and I had to remove all furniture from the kitchen and didn't want to do it if Justin had to change the date. Justin did not respond to my e-mail so after a few hours I telephoned him and left a message. The following morning, he returned the call and was at our house at the time he said he would arrive. <br /> He and his assistant put on a first coat, then returned later in the day for a second coat. They were efficient and cleaned up everything well, and as I said, the floor looks great. I wouldn't hesitate to call Hoyt Surface Solutions again, but Justin needs to improve his responding to and communicating with customers. That is why I marked him down on responsiveness and punctuality. Those things are just as important as doing a good job on the technical details. <br />

<p>On time, worked quickly, finished in one day (small job--100 sq. ft.), did a nice job. sanded/scraped, vacuumed up sawdust, stained, two finish coats of water-based polyurethane. Helped me move the refrigerator and put it back. </p> <p>One thing that probably would have been nice was if contractor has hung plastic sheeting to help control the dust, but was not a major problem. </p> <p><br /></p> <p><br /></p> <br />

The two gentlemen were very friendly and professional. I think they had a bit too much on their plates with the hot deal they were offering and punctuality was a bit lacking. Other than that everything went extremely well. They were fast and efficient when at the house and cleaned up their mess. Answered all phone calls and texts. I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal, but I had more than 100 square feet of flooring to be refinished, so I paid separately for the additional work. I feel the price was very competitive. This is a small company and I understand if there was a big demand for the Big Deal that Justin might not have been able to schedule everyone as soon as they'd like. I was hoping to get my floor done a little sooner as I am planning to sell my house, but I was satisfied with the schedule he gave me. <br /> Justin showed up on time and looked over my 30-year old floor. (It had been refinished once years ago, but it was looking pretty worn.) He warned me that the dark areas -- basically the equivalent of a wear pattern on carpet -- might not lighten up completely even with sanding. But they did -- truly, the floor looks new. <br /> I had to leave the house for two days, because the floor he was working on runs from the front door to the back door and right through the center of the house. Once he began to put polyurethane on it, there was no way to walk around in the house without stepping on a wet floor. I had no hesitation about leaving Justin to work in my house with no one there, and Justin certainly fulfilled my faith in him. The neighbors told me he was there a long time that first day. He had said he might get only one coat of sealer on the first day, but he sanded the floor and put two coats of sealer on it. He called me the next morning to say he was about the put the third coat on. I arranged to meet him at the house later in the day to look over the work and pay him. I was really astounded by how good the floors looked. It exceeded all my expectations. <br /> Though he is young, Justin is thoroughly professional and does great work. I would certainly use his services again. <br />
