Demo of old driveway went very smooth. Another crew installed forms and rebar. Pouring of new concrete only took 3 hours the finish crew worked very hard screening and leveling and getting all the angles and slope just right. The clean up and finish work was perfect. I was very pleased. Would recommend for any concrete work

It went great. They were always on time. They came everyday and they knew what they were doing. I was really impressed. They come when they say that they would come out. I feel good about it.

Do NOT hire this contractor. I don’t know if he is *technically* a scammer, but he is DEFINITELY completely untrustworthy. I hired Afu Usai for what should have been an easy and fast job—a small patio extension and the stamping of an existing same sized one. I was given an estimate of $4,000 and 2-4 days of work max. Over the next 5 weeks, I was promised 8 times that “this would be the week” or “this would be the day”. But there was always SOME reason why they couldn’t do it that day. The truck broke down/he hurt his back/the stamp wasn’t available/the PREFERRED stamping guy wasn’t available/there’s rain in the forecast 3 days later/some guy wouldn’t let him use their trailer as far out as I lived… It was ALWAYS something. In 5 weeks, the only thing that was done was the yard being dug out. And per the contract, he had already received $3,000 ($500 at signing of contract, $1,500 when hold was dug, and $1,000 when ready to pour concrete). Finally, he CONFIRMED that he and his men would show up to do the work between 10:30 and 11am on a Friday and COMPLETE the job. No one even showed up until after 1:00pm and they were gone before 2pm after tossing a little bit of sand in the hole. That was the last straw for my husband and I. We contacted the contractor and told him that we were no longer interested in him completing the job and requested a refund for the previously paid $1,000 and that he could pick up his personal equipment any time and the materials would be returned to him after the refund was issued. He apologized for letting us down and then stated that he would give us our refund. When pressed about how and when we would receive our refund, he stated that he would be by to get his personal equipment on Sunday and would give us a cashiers check on Monday. When we said that would be fine and we would hold onto the supplies until Monday, he then stated that we could just go ahead and keep it for the next contractor to use since there was over $1,000 worth of material there to use and he had receipts. We stated that we would just like the refund as promised because our next contractor would use their own material. And I looked up the price of everything combined, and it was a couple hundred dollars max. I sent that to him and requested pictures of the receipts that he stated he had for proof of cost, and he came back saying that its more about the cost of all the driving around he did, and he did not share the receipts. My husband and I are consulting with our lawyer and if needed, we will be taking Afu Usai to small claims court. This was a ridiculous and a really frustrating experience. We have since hired a new masonry company to complete the job—we used Concrete Works Dallas. They showed up on time every time they said they would, fully prepared, and did not leave until the (warrantied!) project was complete, and pricing was very fair. Not only that, but they also mentioned that the hole (the only thing Afu and his crew managed to do in 5 weeks) was dug unevenly, so they fixed that for free, and instead of using 3/8in rebar mesh for support (like what Afu planned to use), they used real, thick rebar that they actually drilled into my existing patio to ensure that the new section wouldn’t separate. Bottom line. Do NOT waste your hard earned money on HP Contractors. Invest it in a project completed by a reliable, quality company like Concrete Works Dallas instead.

We paid half the funds ($4,750.00) on Wednesday, 3/14/12 to pay labor and buy material (bentonite, gravel, sandy loam, and drainage pipe, etc.) with the promise that the work would begin on Monday, 3/19/12. On that day, one elderly man was sent to start digging the French Drain "by hand" while the remainder of Afu's crew was finishing up another job. This went on for the better part of the week. When we complained, several new men appeared and worked on and off for the remainder of the project completely unsupervised. Since owner did not stay on the job to supervise the men, the workers started and stopped work when they wanted, they frequently took long breaks, extended lunch hours and some days they did not show up at all or left the worksite and did not return.
Some of the men were hard workers while others seemed to be more watchers which seemed to cause some tension between the workers in our opinion. It was hard to communicate with them since we do not speak Spanish, but when we saw they were putting in the piers in the wrong places, it was up to us to draw pictures so they would understand where they should be placed. We never "received" a phone call from the owner regarding what was going on, but we made quite a few to him which were generally returned. He listened to our complaints and suggestions, but we could not tell that he made any effort to correct any situation. There was some work stoppage because the men refused to work since they had not been paid for their previous half-worked days. Near the end, new men were brought in to finish up some warranty work on the previous rock walls and flower beds that we requested while the old crew set and waited for their pay.
A couple rainstorms passed through and since the work was not covered properly with a tarp as instructed, the men could not work due to muddy conditions and it took several days to dry out. We also faced work delays due to owner's illness and his truck breakdowns as he did not have anyone to perform his tasks. All material was purchased in small quantities and piecemealed to the worksite. These materials required replenishment by the owner; i.e. more work delays with men frequently sitting around doing nothing waiting for material. Good sandy loam fill dirt and gravel were supposed to be purchased and delivered, but was hauled in owner's trailers and personal pickup truck beds, as needed. The dirt appeared to be trash-filled clay-based soil disposed from nearby roadwork site as far as we could tell and gravel appeared to be crushed concrete instead of pea gravel.
The French Drain was not built as it was explained to us. It was not wrapped to keep soil from seeping into gravel (crushed concrete) around the drain pipe and was not completely covered with dirt to finish it up because they ran out of top soil. We were pushed to pay the remainder of the contract early, but refused because we knew that all work would cease if the money was paid. We knew that it would take a lot of manual labor to load and haul away the unused dirt and "concrete rocks" dumped on our driveway and clean up the worksite around the house. It was like pulling teeth to get anyone back on site to do it, so we actually held some tools/equipment left in our garage until the clean up was completed to our satisfaction.
The project was estimated for completion of three weeks, but in reality, due to poor management and bad planning, it took nine weeks to complete. During the "nine weeks" that it took to finally finish the project, we had to threaten to speak to an attorney to get the job started up again and/or completed. We do no plan to ever use this contractor again due to the unreliability and deteriation of the work.

They started on time and worked quickly while doing quality work. We were very pleased with the outcome.
